The authors discussed on the DH2023 in Graz the challenge of integrating Theology into the Digital Humanities (DH) and proposed a project called the Compendium Computational Theology. They aim to bridge the gap by demonstrating the practical applicability of DH methods in Theology, focusing on use cases, collaborative research, and discipline-specific approaches. The Compendium will consist of two volumes, engaging authors from both DH and Theology to explore potentials and limitations. They address concerns about terminology, emphasizing inclusivity and open access publication.

In our workshop, we invite Digital Humanists to explore the OpenMethods metablog as an innovative publication forum and to strengthen the representation of traditionally underrepresented languages and actors in Digital Humanities - particularly non-Anglophone, under-resourced languages (such as languages with non-Latin scripts) or female tool-makers - on the platform in particular and in the Digital Humanities discourse in general.

This short presentation will provide insight into the process of developing the Computational Theology Compendium. It aims to enable theologians to explore the potential of DH approaches for their respective disciplines. Challenges such as the unfamiliar collaborative working style or finding a common terminology will be addressed.

Ethics can be defined completely differently depending on which topics are subsumed under it. This makes it difficult to describe the ethics of a patristic author when prevailing concepts of ethics thematically limit the analysis. The digitisation of Augustine's works makes him an ideal candidate for a patristic Distant Reading Experiment to approach this problem. With the help of various distant reading methods, letters will be found that can provide information about his general understanding of ethics in practice. Background: Safe, effective, and inexpensive treatment for COVID-19 is an urgent unmet medical need. Zinc and resveratrol have been reported to have antiviral activity, and resveratrol may increase zinc activity at the site of replication by increasing intracellular zinc concentrations.Methods: A 1:1 randomized, placebo-controlled trial of zinc 150 mg plus resveratrol 4 g daily for 5 days versus placebos in outpatients with SARS-CoV-2 was carried out from 9/21/2020–1/22/2021 in Seattle, Washington. Viral shedding was followed with patient self-collected nasal and saliva samples by measuring qRT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 N gene days 1–7, 10, and 14. Patients filled out a web-based questionnaire on days 1–14 to report symptoms, vital signs and adherence to the study intervention. The study was posted as Clinical Trials.gov NCT04542993 on 9 September 2020.Results: A total of 30 participants (14 treatment; 16 placebos) had ≥1 day of the protocol treatment and were evaluable for the primary or secondary outcome. There was no difference in viral shedding between groups, nor in the resolution of symptoms. There was a trend toward a more rapid decrease in symptoms in the treatment group, though this was not statistically significant in the GLM model. Viral shedding was similar between patient self-collected mid-turbinate nasal swabs and expectorated saliva samples with a good correlation.Conclusion: SARS-CoV-2 shedding and COVID-19 symptoms were not statistically significantly decreased by treatment. Viral shedding correlates well between patient-obtained home nasal swabs and saliva sampling.

Fodder maize is the most commonly used crop for biogas production owing to its high yields, high concentrations of starch and good digestibility. However, environmental concerns and possible future conflict with land for food production may limit its long‐term use. The bioenergy grass, Miscanthus, is a high‐yielding perennial that can grow on marginal land and, with ‘greener’ environmental credentials, may offer an alternative. To compete with maize, the concentration of non‐structural carbohydrates (NSC) and digestibility may need to be improved. Non‐structural carbohydrates were quantified in 38 diverse genotypes of Miscanthus in green‐cut biomass in July and October. The aim was to determine whether NSC abundance could be a target for breeding programmes or whether genotypes already exist that could rival maize for use in anaerobic digestion systems. The saccharification potential and measures of N P and K were also studied. The highest concentrations of NSC were in July, reaching a maximum of 20% DW. However, the maximum yield was in October with 300–400 g NSC plant−1 owing to higher biomass. The digestibility of the cell wall was higher in July than in October, but the increase in biomass meant yields of digestible sugars were still higher in October. Nutrient concentrations were at least twofold higher in July compared to November, and the abundance of potassium showed the greatest degree of variation between genotypes. The projected maximum yield of NSC was 1.3 t ha−1 with significant variation to target for breeding. Starch accumulated in the highest concentrations and continued to increase into autumn in some genotypes. Therefore, starch, rather than sugars, would be a better target for breeding improvement. If harvest date was brought forward to autumn, nutrient losses in non‐flowering genotypes would be comparable to an early spring harvest.

The development of models to predict yield potential and quality of a Miscanthus crop must consider climatic limitations and the duration of growing season. As a biomass crop, yield and quality are impacted by the timing of plant developmental transitions such as flowering and senescence. Growth models are available for the commercially grown clone Miscanthus x giganteus (Mxg), but breeding programs have been working to expand the germplasm available, including development of interspecies hybrids. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of diverse germplasm beyond the range of environments considered suitable for a Miscanthus crop to be grown. To achieve this, six field sites were planted as part of the EU OPTIMISC project in 2012 in a longitudinal gradient from West to East: Wales—Aberystwyth, Netherlands—Wageningen, Stuttgart—Germany, Ukraine—Potash, Turkey—Adana, and Russia—Moscow. Each field trial contained three replicated plots of the same 15 Miscanthus germplasm types. Through the 2014 growing season, phenotypic traits were measured to determine the timing of developmental stages key to ripening; the tradeoff between growth (yield) and quality (biomass ash and moisture content). The hottest site (Adana) showed an accelerated growing season, with emergence, flowering and senescence occurring before the other sites. However, the highest yields were produced at Potash, where emergence was delayed by frost and the growing season was shortest. Flowering triggers varied with species and only in Mxg was strongly linked to accumulated thermal time. Our results show that a prolonged growing season is not essential to achieve high yields if climatic conditions are favorable and in regions where the growing season is bordered by frost, delaying harvest can improve quality of the harvested biomass.

This thesis investigates the construction of maximally dissipative and constraint preserving boundary conditions for electromagnetic analogues of two formulations presently used in numerical relativity. Accurate simulations of astrophysical sit uations either require correct boundaries to be applied or for these boundaries to be pushed out far enough that they are not causally connected to the region of interest. This work looks to tackle the first problem, considering electromag netism in an attempt to construct general concepts that would transfer directly to formulations of the Einstein equations used in numerical relativity. The early sections of the thesis introduce in a general way the requirements for continuum problems and their discretisations and the properties of maximally dissipative and constraint preserving boundary conditions. Consideration is then made of the advantages and limitations of using formulations of the Maxvvell equations as analogues to formulations used in numerical relativity, before the introduction of the two formulations: K\iVB and Zl, that will be considered in this thesis. The basic examples of the first order in space and second order in space wave equation, with and without shift, are used to help construct the boundary condi tions for K\iVB and Zl. Where possible the energy method is used to analytically prove stability for the resulting schemes, which are then tested numerically.
