The objective of this study was to gather evidence of the psychometric properties of the Richmond Compulsive Buying Scale (RCBS) in university students in the Northeast region of Brazil. For this purpose, two studies were conducted. The first study involved 300 university students from the Brazilian Northeast. They were predominantly female (71%), from private universities (67%) and with an average age of 23,5 years old (SD= 6,7). The results indicated a sustainable empirical structure (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin [KMO] test = 0,82), with psychometric indicators considered adequate for measuring compulsive buying. The results also indicated an unifactorial structure, consisting of six items, which explained 51,85% of the variance, and Cronbach’s Alpha of 0,86. The second study aimed at testing the factorial structure found in the first study. A total of 279 university students participated, mostly from public universities (54,1%), male (51,3%) and with an average age of 23,1 years old (EP= 4,74). Through the Confirmatory Factor Analysis, good fit indicators were verified: X²/gl = 2,90; GFI = 0,98; CFI = 0,98; TLI=0,98; RMSEA = 0,08 (IC 90%=04-0,10). It is concluded that the RCBS presented adequate psychometric parameters and is a useful measure for future studies about compulsive buying.

Abstract Through two studies, we aimed to adapt the Questionnaire on Forgiveness in Divorce-Separation (Cuestionário de Perdón en Divorcio-Separación - CPD-S) to the Brazilian context, providing evidence of factorial validity and internal consistency. In study 1, participants were 204 divorced individuals with a mean age of 41.98 (SD = 11.99), 74% women, who answered CPD-S and demographic questions. The exploratory factor analysis showed a one-factor structure, explaining 55.92% of the total variance, and a Cronbach's alpha of .79. In study 2, participants were 200 divorced individuals equally distributed across gender with a mean age of 38.72 (SD = 11.51), answering the same instruments as in study 1. Confirmatory factor analysis results corroborated the one-factor structure, with a Cronbach's alpha of .73. Furthermore, the factorial invariance across gender and current relationship status was tested. It can be concluded that the results show evidence of factorial validity and internal consistency in addition to measuring the construct across gender and current relationship status. Abstract This article aims to adapt the Belief in a Just World Scale to the Brazilian context, providing evidence of its reliability and factorial validity. Two studies were carried out in virtual environments. Study 1 aimed at knowledge of the measure's factorial structure and its reliability. Its participants were 300 individuals with a mean age of 26.4 years (61.3%> females), who satisfied the scale and demographic requirements. The results indicated a 2-component structure: personal belief in a just world [7 items, eigenvalue = 4.42, and Cronbach's alpha (a) of .83], and general belief in a just world (6 items, eigenvalue = 1.67, and a = .69). Study 2 aimed to confirm the previous 2-factor structure. Its participants were 331 individuals with a mean age of 27.1 years (64.4%> females). The fit indices supported the 2-factor model [GFI = .92, CFI = .91, and RMSEA = .07 (CI90% = .05-.08)], which showed acceptable reliability coefficients (a = .82 and .71, respectively). In conclusion, the findings support evidence for the factorial validity and reliability of this measure, which can be used in future studies in Brazil. - Abstract
This study aimed to adapt the Emotional Dependency Questionnaire (Cuestionario de Dependencia Emocional - CDE), gathering evidence of validity and accuracy, specifically to verify the relationship pattern with self-esteem. Accordingly, two studies were performed with participants from a city of the northeast of Brazil. In the first (n=244) the adaptation of the CDE was carried out and exploratory factor analysis was performed, which suggested a single-factor structure. In the second (n=236), confirmatory factor analyses were performed by testing alternative models (single factor and six factors). In addition, Pearson's correlation (r) was calculated, which showed a negative and statistically significant relationship between self-esteem and emotional dependence, indicating convergent validity. In addition, satisfactory accuracy was found in both studies. It was concluded that the CDE is valid and reliable and can help in the evaluation of individuals who are in loving relationships and in the search of a consensus about the concept and dimensions of emotional dependence. - Abstract
This study aimed to test a theoretical model proposed by Viktor Frankl, which can explain the dynamics of noopsychosomatics in people with HIV/AIDS. Specifically, we aimed to understand how the noological dimension (represented by religious attitude and sense of accomplishment) influences the mental dimension (positive affect and perception of the past), and thus affects the somatic dimension (numbers of CD4+/CD8+ cells). Participants were 115 seropositive patients for HIV/AIDS, with a mean age of 39 years (61.4% male). Results indicate the appropriateness of this model, with acceptable fit indexes. In conclusion empirical evidence was joined about the theoretical model of noopsychosomatics in patients with HIV/AIDS, corroborating the relevance of the noological dimension in the health and disease process., O objetivo deste estudo foi testar um modelo teórico proposto por Viktor Frankl, que pode explicar a dinâmica da noopsicossomática em pessoas com HIV/AIDS. - Abstract
The current research aimed to adapt the Self-Control Scale (SCS) to the Brazilian context, jointing evidence for its factorial validity and reliability. A study was conducted in João Pessoa (Paraíba, Brazil), with 244 high school and primary school students from public and private schools. The sample was composed mainly by females, with ages ranging from 12 to 42 years, single and Catholics. Participants answered the SCS and demographic questions. A Principal Components Analysis was performed (varimax rotation), indicating the existence of six factors, accounting for 59.5% of the total variance. The internal consistency of the factors (Cronbachs alpha) presented values ranging from 0.62 to 0.82, considered acceptable. It was concluded this version can be adequately used for research in the context where it was adapted, showing evidence of construct validity. Nevertheless, new studies have been suggested, checking its factorial invariance and explicative power with respect to socially deviant behaviors., O presente estudo teve como objetivo adaptar a Escala de Autocontrole (EAC) para o contexto brasileiro, reunindo evidências de sua validade fatorial e consistência interna. - Abstract
This article aimed to gather evidences of construct validity of the Study Habits Scale (SHS). In Study 1 participated 242 students in elementary and secondary education, with a mean age of 14.3 years. They answered the SHS and demographic questions. A onedimensional structure was identified by principal components analysis, with Cronbach's alpha (internal consistency) of 0.65. In Study 2 participants were 249 students in the same educational levels, with mean age of 14.6 (sd = 2.12), who answered the same instruments. The unidimensional structure was tested by confirmatory factorial analysis. The fit indexes of this model were satisfactory, supporting the unidimensionality of this scale. Its internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha (0.74) and composite reliability (0,70), supporting this parameter of the SHS. In conclusion, this measure shows evidence of construct validity, which suggests its use in future research., Este artigo objetivou reunir evidências de validade de construto da Escala de Hábitos de Estudo (EHE). Introduction: The study of work engagement is key for better understanding the underlying mechanisms that lead people to feel more motivated at work. The construct has gained prominence over recent decades, and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) has emerged as the most popular tool to assess the construct. Though widely known and used, more psychometric evidence is needed for the UWES, especially its item parameters. Method: This study (N = 525) aimed to provide psychometric evidence for the UWES and its shortened versions in Brazil, using a range of robust statistical analyses (e.g., Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Item Response Theory). Results: Results reveal good model fit and high internal consistency for both unidimensional and three-dimensional UWES structures. UWES items also showed high discrimination, difficulty, and information levels. Finally, significant correlations between UWES and workaholism and job satisfaction provided evidence of the convergent validity of the UWES in Brazil. Conclusion: This study's findings broaden the understanding of work engagement and underscore the utility of the UWES as an efficacious tool for measuring work engagement in Brazil, paving the way for effective interventions and policies in diverse workplace environments.
