11. Formation of Spherical D2-brane from Multiple D0-branes

Abstract

We study D-branes in SU(2) WZW model by means of the boundary state techniques. We realize the ``fuzzy sphere'' configuration of multiple D0-branes as the boundary state with the insertion of suitable Wilson line. By making use of the path-integral representation we show that this boundary state preserves the appropriate boundary conditions and leads to the Cardy state describing a spherical D2-brane under the semi-classical approximation. This result directly implies that the spherical D2-brane in SU(2) WZW model can be well described as the bound state of D0-branes. After presenting the supersymmetric extension, we also investigate the BPS and the non-BPS configurations of D-branes in the NS5 background. We demonstrate that the non-BPS configurations are actually unstable, since they always possess the open string tachyons. 12. Singular Calabi-Yau Manifolds and ADE Classification of CFTs

Abstract

We study superstring propagations on the Calabi-Yau manifold which develops an isolated ADE singularity. This theory has been conjectured to have a holographic dual description in terms of N=2 Landau-Ginzburg theory and Liouville theory. If the Landau-Ginzburg description precisely reflects the information of ADE singularity, the Landau-Ginzburg model of $D_4,E_6,E_8$ and Gepner model of $A_2\otimes A_2, A_2\otimes A_3, A_2\otimes A_4$ should give the same result. We compute the elements of $D_4,E_6,E_8$ modular invariants for the singular Calabi-Yau compactification in terms of the spectral flow invariant orbits of the tensor product theories with the theta function which encodes the momentum mode of the Liouville theory. Furthermore we find the interesting identity among characters in minimal models at different levels. We give the complete proof for the identity., Comment: 31 pages, no figure

13. Tachyon Condensation on Fuzzy Sphere and Noncommutative Solitons

Abstract

We study a brane-antibrane system and a non-BPS D-brane in SU(2) WZW model. We first discuss the tachyon condensation using the vertex operator formalism and find the generation of codimension two D-branes after the condensation. Our result is consistent with the recent interpretation that a D2-brane is a bound state of D0-branes. Then we investigate the world volume effective theory on a non-BPS D-brane. It becomes a field theory on the ``fuzzy sphere'' when the level is sent to infinity. The most interesting feature is that there exist the noncommutative tachyonic solitons and we can identify them with D0-branes. We also discuss the brane-antibrane system from the world volume point of view and comment on the relation to the noncommutative version of the index theorem., Comment: 16 pages,2 figures,minor changes,references added,to appear in Nucl.Phys.B

Abstract

Objective The study aimed to evaluate the association between bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) development at 36 weeks' postmenstrual age (PMA) and Gram-negative bacteria in tracheal aspirate cultures among extremely preterm infants. Study Design This study has a retrospective cohort. Patients were 155 infants aged less than or equal to 26 gestational weeks who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of Osaka Women's and Children's Hospital from 2009 to 2018. Primary outcome was respiratory outcomes expressed as BPD development. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify neonatal and bacterial factors associated with BPD. Results After adjusting for gestational age, birth weight, sex, chorioamnionitis, Gram-positive cocci (GPC) and Gram-negative rods (GNRs) in tracheal aspirate cultures within 28 days after birth, GNRs were significantly associated with BPD development (odds ratio [OR]: 3.88, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.68–8.94). In contrast, GPCs were not associated with BPD development (OR: 0.47, 95% CI: 0.05–1.61). Conclusion Gram-negative bacteria in tracheal cultures within 28 days of birth are associated with BPD development in infants aged less than or equal to 26 gestational weeks. Key Points BPD is a factor for morbidity in extremely preterm infants. Respiratory infection is an adverse outcome of BPD. GNRs in tracheal cultures soon after birth disturb BPD development. Abstract

Infantile liver failure syndrome type 1 (ILFS1) is a recently recognized autosomal recessive disorder caused by deleterious mutations in the leucyl‐tRNA synthetase 1 gene (LARS1). The LARS1 enzyme is responsible for incorporation of the amino acid leucine during protein polypeptide synthesis. Individuals with LARS1 mutations typically show liver failure from infancy to early childhood during periods of illness or other physiological stress. While 25 patients from 15 families with ILFS1 have been reported in the literature, histological reports from autopsy findings are limited. We report here a premature male neonate who presented with severe intrauterine growth retardation, microcytic anemia, and fulminant liver failure, and who was a compound heterozygote for two novel deleterious mutations in LARS1. An autopsy showed fulminant hepatitis‐like hepatocellular injury and fibrogenesis in the liver and a lack of uniformity in skeletal muscle, accompanied by the disruption of striated muscle fibers. Striking dysgenesis in skeletal muscle detected in the present case indicates the effect of LARS1 functional deficiency on the musculature. Whole‐exome sequencing may be useful for neonates with unexplained early liver failure if extensive genetic and metabolic testing is inconclusive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A hemorrhagic toxin from habu venom was separated into hemorrhagic factor-1(HR-1) and hemorrhagic factor-2(HR-2) based on the molecular weight of the protein. It is known that the natural inhibitor affecting the neutralization of HR-1 is present in the mongoose serum. However, this natural inhibitor has negligible neutralization activity against HR-2. Therefore, by using habu venom to carry out an immunity test in mongoose, we examined whether any component in the immune serum could be sufficiently effective in neutralizing both HR-1 and HR-2. The habu venom was administered into 10 mongooses for a period of 16 weeks. We drew blood 6 times of during this period and performed exsanguinations 16 weeks later. In this study, we used ELISA to measure the antibody titer for HR-1 and HR-2 in the collected serum. Further, we which we examined habu venom sensitivity in the 10 mongooses and the levels of anti-HR-2 antibody. We compared the results for each mongoose, and, found that there was considerable difference in sensitivity toward the habe venom in each mongoose. In order to evaluate the sensitivity, we used habu antitoxin, which was prepared at the Okinawa prefectural institute of health and environment, in horses and goats. To detect the immune serum component that effectively neutralizes both HR-1 and HR-2 we need to separate the immune serum into its functional components during further investigations, and examine the neutralization activity of the refined serum components in terms of the protein content., 紀要論文

Abstract

Objective  To assess effects of neonatal transport on transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) in outborn term neonates. Study Design  This retrospective cohort study included 66 term neonates diagnosed with TTN and transported to the Osaka Women's and Children's Hospital neonatal intensive care unit between January 2003 and March 2018. A multivariate logistic regression analysis identified perinatal and neonatal transport factors associated with adverse short-term outcomes defined as mechanical ventilation >48 hours, continuous positive airway pressure >72 hours, pulmonary hemorrhage, and requirement for inhaled nitric oxide, thoracentesis, or surfactant replacement therapy. Results  A lower gestational age (GA) (37.7 [37.2, 38.3] vs. 39.6 [37.8, 40.3] weeks, p  = 0.002), longer time to neonatal transport (10.0 [4.3, 25.5] vs. 5.5 [2.7, 9.7] hours, p  = 0.01), and higher respiratory rates during transport (70 [60, 85] vs. 60 [55, 78.8] breaths/min, p  = 0.04) were significantly associated with adverse short-term outcomes. After adjusting for GA, sex, cesarean section, and time to neonatal transport, GA (odds ratio [OR], 0.37; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.24–0.87) and time to neonatal transport (OR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.01–1.13) were significantly associated with adverse outcomes. Conclusion  Short-term adverse prognosis of TTN is strongly associated with a lower GA and longer time between birth and neonatal transport. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We present an overall view of poisonous snake bites in Japan. In Main Land, Japan north of the Tokara Straits or Tose Line, poisonous snake bites by the Nihon mamusi (aspecies of a viper native to Main Land Japan), and Yamakagashi (tiger keelback) are of major clinical importance, whereas in the South-West Islands south of the Tokara Straits, serious problems occur due to the snake bites by the Habu (a pit viper native to the Ryukyu Islands). In Main Land Japan, approximately 10 mortality cases by the Nihon mamusi have been reported recently, whereas in Okinawa, no mortality cases due to the Habu bites have been observed. However, poisonous snake bites are still important diseases, and we should not disregard them even in our days of urbanization.
