1. Teaching Suicide Assessment and Intervention Online: A Model of Practice

Abstract

In counselor education programs, students acquire clinical experience through both practicum and internship; this time frequently marks students' first counseling experiences working with suicide in a clinical context. Often, students in practicum or internship working with clients who may be experiencing suicidal ideations do not feel properly equipped to deal with suicide. This study aimed to develop a practice model for online counselor education programs that increases counseling students' self-efficacy to work with clients who may present with suicidal ideations. Sixty online graduate-level clinical mental health counseling students completed a pre- and posttest self-efficacy assessment. Findings showed that students' self-efficacy increased due to taking the online basic counseling skills class that included teaching activities related to suicide screening, assessment, and intervention.

Abstract

Moir\'e materials represent strongly interacting electron systems bridging topological and correlated physics. Despite significant advances, decoding wavefunction properties underlying the quantum geometry remains challenging. Here, we utilize polarization-resolved photocurrent measurements to probe magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, leveraging its sensitivity to the Berry connection that encompasses quantum "textures" of electron wavefunctions. Using terahertz light resonant with optical transitions of its flat bands, we observe bulk photocurrents driven by broken symmetries and reveal the interplay between electron interactions and quantum geometry. We observe inversion-breaking gapped states undetectable through quantum transport, sharp changes in the polarization axes caused by interaction-induced band renormalization, and recurring photocurrent patterns at integer fillings of the moir\'e unit cell that track the evolution of quantum geometry through the cascade of phase transitions. The large and tunable terahertz response intrinsic to flat-band systems offers direct insights into the quantum geometry of interacting electrons and paves the way for innovative terahertz quantum technologies.

4. Simple Chopsticks: Playing with any number of hands and fingers

Abstract

Chopsticks is a game played by two players where they start with one finger raised on each hand. On their turn, each player moves by pointing an attacking hand at one of their opponent's hands. The number of fingers on the pointed hand increases by the number of fingers on the attacking hand. If, after a move, a hand contains more than five fingers, it is removed from play. There are also other rules that allow players to move fingers from one hand to another, but we focus on this simple setup. We introduce a generalization of Chopsticks, called Simple Chopsticks, in which the players may have any number of $n$-fingered hands. We find that having more hands than your opponent is generally good, and use this fact to fully characterize the outcomes of \octopus/ in the case where the players have 2-fingered hands., Comment: 12 pages

5. FAME-MT Dataset: Formality Awareness Made Easy for Machine Translation Purposes

Abstract

People use language for various purposes. Apart from sharing information, individuals may use it to express emotions or to show respect for another person. In this paper, we focus on the formality level of machine-generated translations and present FAME-MT -- a dataset consisting of 11.2 million translations between 15 European source languages and 8 European target languages classified to formal and informal classes according to target sentence formality. This dataset can be used to fine-tune machine translation models to ensure a given formality level for each European target language considered. We describe the dataset creation procedure, the analysis of the dataset's quality showing that FAME-MT is a reliable source of language register information, and we present a publicly available proof-of-concept machine translation model that uses the dataset to steer the formality level of the translation. Currently, it is the largest dataset of formality annotations, with examples expressed in 112 European language pairs. Abstract

This paper explores Minimum Bayes Risk (MBR) decoding for self-improvement in machine translation (MT), particularly for domain adaptation and low-resource languages. We implement the self-improvement process by fine-tuning the model on its MBR-decoded forward translations. By employing COMET as the MBR utility metric, we aim to achieve the reranking of translations that better aligns with human preferences. The paper explores the iterative application of this approach and the potential need for language-specific MBR utility metrics. The results demonstrate significant enhancements in translation quality for all examined language pairs, including successful application to domain-adapted models and generalisation to low-resource settings. 7. Quantum Corrections to the Decay Law in Flight

Abstract

The deviation of the decay law from the exponential is a well known effect of quantum mechanics. Here we analyze the relativistic survival probabilities, $S(t,p)$, where $p$ is the momentum of the decaying particle and provide analytical expressions for $S(t,p)$ in the exponential (E) as well as the nonexponential (NE) regions at small and large times. Under minimal assumptions on the spectral density function, analytical expressions for the critical times of transition from the NE to the E at small times and the E to NE at large times are derived. The dependence of the decay law on the relativistic Lorentz factor, $\gamma = 1/\sqrt{1 - v^2/c^2}$, reveals several interesting features. In the short time regime of the decay law, the critical time, $\tau_{st}$, shows a steady increase with $\gamma$, thus implying a larger NE region for particles decaying in flight. Comparing $S(t,p)$ with the well known time dilation formula, $e^{-\Gamma t/\gamma}$, in the exponential region, an expression for the critical $\gamma$ where $S(t,p)$ deviates most from $e^{-\Gamma t/\gamma}$ is presented. This is a purely quantum correction. Under particular conditions on the resonance parameters, there also exists a critical $\gamma$ at large times which decides if the NE region shifts backward or forward in time as compared to that for a particle at rest. 8. Medical Students' Perceptions of a Novel International Adaptive Progress Test

Abstract

Between 2018-2021, eight European medical schools took part in a study to develop a medical knowledge Online Adaptive International Progress Test. Here we discuss participants' self-perception to evaluate the acceptability of adaptive vs non-adaptive testing. Study participants, students from across Europe at all stages of undergraduate medical education with varying levels of prior experience with progress testing, sat remotely invigilated tests using the online QuizOne® platform. Participants completed online feedback questionnaires on their experiences and perceptions of adaptive and non-adaptive tests. Overall satisfaction with the organisation and delivery of remote online tests was high regardless of previous experience with progress testing, differences in stages, programmes, and to some degree language. In statements probing the appropriateness of the level and the length of testing, differences were observed between adaptive and non-adaptive tests. There was a high level of agreement that the adaptive test was a good measure of personal knowledge and increased participants' motivation for study. Students' self-perception of the assessment is an important factor in evaluation of acceptability of the exam and its further development. In our study, the adaptive test algorithm adjusted the level of difficulty for the individual student in real-time, leading to positive perceptions of the length of the test and promoting students' engagement. The assessment increases student motivation for learning and in turn, has the potential to improve their performance.

Abstract

Nucleotide changes in gene regulatory elements are important determinants of neuronal development and diseases. Using massively parallel reporter assays in primary human cells from mid-gestation cortex and cerebral organoids, we interrogated the cis-regulatory activity of 102,767 open chromatin regions, including thousands of sequences with cell type-specific accessibility and variants associated with brain gene regulation. In primary cells, we identified 46,802 active enhancer sequences and 164 variants that alter enhancer activity. Activity was comparable in organoids and primary cells, suggesting that organoids provide an adequate model for the developing cortex. Using deep learning we decoded the sequence basis and upstream regulators of enhancer activity. This work establishes a comprehensive catalog of functional gene regulatory elements and variants in human neuronal development.

Abstract

In this report, we introduce the Gemini 1.5 family of models, representing the next generation of highly compute-efficient multimodal models capable of recalling and reasoning over fine-grained information from millions of tokens of context, including multiple long documents and hours of video and audio. The family includes two new models: (1) an updated Gemini 1.5 Pro, which exceeds the February version on the great majority of capabilities and benchmarks; (2) Gemini 1.5 Flash, a more lightweight variant designed for efficiency with minimal regression in quality. Gemini 1.5 models achieve near-perfect recall on long-context retrieval tasks across modalities, improve the state-of-the-art in long-document QA, long-video QA and long-context ASR, and match or surpass Gemini 1.0 Ultra's state-of-the-art performance across a broad set of benchmarks. Studying the limits of Gemini 1.5's long-context ability, we find continued improvement in next-token prediction and near-perfect retrieval (>99%) up to at least 10M tokens, a generational leap over existing models such as Claude 3.0 (200k) and GPT-4 Turbo (128k). Finally, we highlight real-world use cases, such as Gemini 1.5 collaborating with professionals on completing their tasks achieving 26 to 75% time savings across 10 different job categories, as well as surprising new capabilities of large language models at the frontier; when given a grammar manual for Kalamang, a language with fewer than 200 speakers worldwide, the model learns to translate English to Kalamang at a similar level to a person who learned from the same content.

Abstract

In modern democracies, the outcome of elections and referendums is often remarkably tight. The repetition of these divisive events are the hallmark of a split society; to the physicist, however, it is an astonishing feat for such large collections of diverse individuals. Many sociophysics models reproduce the emergence of collective human behavior with interacting agents, which respond to their environment according to simple rules, modulated by random fluctuations. A paragon of this class is the Ising model which, when interactions are strong, predicts that order can emerge from a chaotic initial state. In contrast with many elections, however, this model favors a strong majority. Here, we introduce a new element to this classical theory, which accounts for the influence of opinion polls on the electorate. This brings about a new phase in which two groups divide the opinion equally. These political camps are spatially segregated, and the sharp boundary that separates them makes the system size-dependent, even in the limit of a large electorate. Election data show that, over the last 30 years, countries with more than about a million voters often found themselves in this state, whereas elections in smaller countries yielded more consensual results. We suggest that this transition hinges on the electorate's awareness of the general opinion.

Abstract

There are many combinatorial games in which a move can terminate the game, such as a checkmate in chess. These moves give rise to diverse situations that fall outside the scope of the classical normal play structure. To analyze these games, an algebraic extension is necessary, including infinities as elements. In this work, affine normal play, the algebraic structure resulting from that extension, is analyzed. We prove that it is possible to compare two affine games using only their forms. Furthermore, affine games can still be reduced, although the reduced forms are not unique. We establish that the classical normal play is order-embedded in the extended structure, constituting its substructure of invertible elements. Abstract

In this paper we focus on the underlying quantum structure of temporal correlations and show their peculiar nature which differentiate them from spatial quantum correlations. With a growing interest in representation of quantum states as topological objects, we consider quantum history bundles based on the temporal manifold and show the source of violation of monogamous temporal Bell-like inequalities. We introduce definitions for the mixture of quantum histories and consider their entanglement as sections over the Hilbert vector bundles. Abstract

The manipulation of microscopic objects requires precise and controllable forces and torques. Recent advances have led to the use of critical Casimir forces as a powerful tool, which can be finely tuned through the temperature of the environment and the chemical properties of the involved objects. For example, these forces have been used to self-organize ensembles of particles and to counteract stiction caused by Casimir-Liftshitz forces. However, until now, the potential of critical Casimir torques has been largely unexplored. Here, we demonstrate that critical Casimir torques can efficiently control the alignment of microscopic objects on nanopatterned substrates. We show experimentally and corroborate with theoretical calculations and Monte Carlo simulations that circular patterns on a substrate can stabilize the position and orientation of microscopic disks. By making the patterns elliptical, such microdisks can be subject to a torque which flips them upright while simultaneously allowing for more accurate control of the microdisk position. More complex patterns can selectively trap 2D-chiral particles and generate particle motion similar to non-equilibrium Brownian ratchets. These findings provide new opportunities for nanotechnological applications requiring precise positioning and orientation of microscopic objects.

Abstract

Adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) hold tremendous promise as delivery vectors for gene therapies. AAVs have been successfully engineered-for instance, for more efficient and/or cell-specific delivery to numerous tissues-by creating large, diverse starting libraries and selecting for desired properties. However, these starting libraries often contain a high proportion of variants unable to assemble or package their genomes, a prerequisite for any gene delivery goal. Here, we present and showcase a machine learning (ML) method for designing AAV peptide insertion libraries that achieve fivefold higher packaging fitness than the standard NNK library with negligible reduction in diversity. To demonstrate our ML-designed librarys utility for downstream engineering goals, we show that it yields approximately 10-fold more successful variants than the NNK library after selection for infection of human brain tissue, leading to a promising glial-specific variant. Moreover, our design approach can be applied to other types of libraries for AAV and beyond.

Here, we show that TCF7L2, which is a key transcriptional effector of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, plays a cell-autonomous role in postnatal astrocyte maturation and impacts adult social behavior. TCF7L2 was the dominant Wnt effector that was expressed in both mouse and human astrocytes, with a peak during astrocyte maturation. The conditional knockout of Tcf7l2 in postnatal astrocytes led to an enlargement of astrocytes with defective tiling and gap junction coupling. These mice also exhibited an increase in the number of cortical excitatory and inhibitory synapses and a marked increase in social interaction by adulthood. These data reveal an astrocytic role for developmental Wnt/β-catenin signaling in restricting excitatory synapse numbers and regulating adult social behavior.

Abstract

We examine properties of achievement sets of series in $\mathbb{R}^2$. We show several examples of unusual sets of subsums on the plane. We prove that we can obtain any set of P-sums as a cut of an achievement set in $\mathbb{R}^2.$ We introduce a notion of the spectre of a set in an Abelian group, which generalizes the notion of the center of distances. We examine properties of the spectre and we use it, for example, to show that the Sierpi\'nski carpet is not an achievement set of any series., Comment: 14 pages

Challenging Mermin's perspective that ``correlations have physical reality; that which they correlate does not'' we argue that correlations and correlata are not fundamentally distinct. These are dual concepts depending on the tensor product decomposition defining subsystems. Since the same quantum states may be either entangled or separable, but with respect to alternative tensor product structures, a spatial correlation in one context can become a temporal correlatum in another, and vice versa. Abstract

The class of Poset Take-Away games includes many interesting and difficult games. Playing on an $n$-dimensional positive quadrant (the origin being the bottom of the poset) gives rise to nim, wythoff's nim and chomp. These are impartial games. We introduce a partisan game motivated by chomp and the recent chocolate-bar version. Our game is played on a chocolate bar with alternately flavored pieces (or a checkerboard). We solve this game by showing it is equivalent to blue-red hackenbush strings. This equivalence proves that the values of game are numbers and it gives an algorithm for optimal play when there is more than one chocolate bar. Abstract

Inclusive e$^+$e$^-$ production has been studied with HADES in $\pi^-$ + p, $\pi^-$ + C and $\pi^- + \mathrm{CH}_2$ reactions, using the GSI pion beam at $\sqrt{s_{\pi p}}$ = 1.49 GeV. Invariant mass and transverse momentum distributions have been measured and reveal contributions from Dalitz decays of $\pi^0$, $\eta$ mesons and baryon resonances. The transverse momentum distributions are very sensitive to the underlying kinematics of the various processes. The baryon contribution exhibits a deviation up to a factor seven from the QED reference expected for the dielectron decay of a hypothetical point-like baryon with the production cross section constrained from the inverse $\gamma$ n$\rightarrow \pi^-$ p reaction. The enhancement is attributed to a strong four-momentum squared dependence of the time-like electromagnetic transition form factors as suggested by Vector Meson Dominance (VMD). Two versions of the VMD, that differ in the photon-baryon coupling, have been applied in simulations and compared to data. VMD1 (or two-component VMD) assumes a coupling via the $\rho$ meson and a direct coupling of the photon, while in VMD2 (or strict VMD) the coupling is only mediated via the $\rho$ meson. The VMD2 model, frequently used in transport calculations for dilepton decays, is found to overestimate the measured dielectron yields, while a good description of the data can be obtained with the VMD1 model assuming no phase difference between the two amplitudes. Abstract

This work aims to provide an overview on the open-source multilanguage tool called StyloMetrix. It offers stylometric text representations that cover various aspects of grammar, syntax and lexicon. StyloMetrix covers four languages: Polish as the primary language, English, Ukrainian and Russian. The normalized output of each feature can become a fruitful course for machine learning models and a valuable addition to the embeddings layer for any deep learning algorithm. We strive to provide a concise, but exhaustive overview on the application of the StyloMetrix vectors as well as explain the sets of the developed linguistic features. The experiments have shown promising results in supervised content classification with simple algorithms as Random Forest Classifier, Voting Classifier, Logistic Regression and others. The deep learning assessments have unveiled the usefulness of the StyloMetrix vectors at enhancing an embedding layer extracted from Transformer architectures. 34. Axisymmetric Solutions to Einstein Field Equations via Integral Transforms

Abstract

In this paper, we present new axisymmetric and reflection symmetric vacuum solutions to the Einstein field equations. They are obtained using the Hankel integral transform method and all three solutions exhibit naked singularities. Our results further reinforce the importance and special character of axisymmetric solutions in general relativity and highlight the role of integral transforms methods in solving complex problems in this field. We compare our results to already existing solutions which exhibit the same type of singularities. In this context we notice that most known axial-symmetric solutions possess naked singularities. Abstract

In this paper we look at the topological type of algebraic sum of achievement sets. We show that there is a Cantorval such that the algebraic sum of its $k$ copies is still a Cantorval for any $k \in \mathbb{N}$. We also prove that for any $m,p \in (\mathbb{N}\setminus \{1\}) \cup \{\infty\}$, $p \geq m$, the algebraic sum of $k$ copies of a Cantor set can transit from a Cantor set to a Cantorval for $k=m$ and then to an interval for $k=p$. These two main results are based on a new characterization of sequences whose achievement sets are Cantorvals. We also define a new family of achievable Cantorvals which are not generated by multigeometric series. In the final section we discuss various decompositions of sequences related to the topological typology of achievement sets., Comment: 21 pages

Abstract

The requirements for broadband photodetection are becoming exceedingly demanding in hyperspectral imaging. Whilst intrinsic photoconductor arrays based on mercury cadmium telluride represent the most sensitive and suitable technology, their optical spectrum imposes a narrow spectral range with a sharp absorption edge that cuts their operation to < 25 um. Here, we demonstrate a giant ultra-broadband photoconductivity in twisted double bilayer graphene heterostructures spanning a spectral range of 2 - 100 um with internal quantum efficiencies ~ 40 % at speeds of 100 kHz. The giant response originates from unique properties of twist-decoupled heterostructures including pristine, crystal field induced terahertz band gaps, parallel photoactive channels, and strong photoconductivity enhancements caused by interlayer screening of electronic interactions by respective layers acting as sub-atomic spaced proximity screening gates. Our work demonstrates a rare instance of an intrinsic infrared-terahertz photoconductor that is complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor compatible and array integratable, and introduces twist-decoupled graphene heterostructures as a viable route for engineering gapped graphene photodetectors with 3D scalability.

Abstract

We analyzed >700,000 single-nucleus RNA sequencing profiles from 106 donors during prenatal and postnatal developmental stages and identified lineage-specific programs that underlie the development of specific subtypes of excitatory cortical neurons, interneurons, glial cell types, and brain vasculature. By leveraging single-nucleus chromatin accessibility data, we delineated enhancer gene regulatory networks and transcription factors that control commitment of specific cortical lineages. By intersecting our results with genetic risk factors for human brain diseases, we identified the cortical cell types and lineages most vulnerable to genetic insults of different brain disorders, especially autism. We find that lineage-specific gene expression programs up-regulated in female cells are especially enriched for the genetic risk factors of autism. Our study captures the molecular progression of cortical lineages across human development.

Abstract

The thalamus plays a central coordinating role in the brain. Thalamic neurons are organized into spatially distinct nuclei, but the molecular architecture of thalamic development is poorly understood, especially in humans. To begin to delineate the molecular trajectories of cell fate specification and organization in the developing human thalamus, we used single-cell and multiplexed spatial transcriptomics. We show that molecularly defined thalamic neurons differentiate in the second trimester of human development and that these neurons organize into spatially and molecularly distinct nuclei. We identified major subtypes of glutamatergic neuron subtypes that are differentially enriched in anatomically distinct nuclei and six subtypes of γ-aminobutyric acid-mediated (GABAergic) neurons that are shared and distinct across thalamic nuclei.

Abstract

The aim of the work was to evaluate the influence of changes of technical working parameters of a field sprayer on changes of the coefficient of variation for double stream atomisers. The technical parameters were the height and the inclination angle of the sprayer boom and spraying pressure. In the studies, a Drift Guard TwinJet Flat Spray nozzle (DGTJ60 11003 VS) was used. It generated two flat fans of liquid at the spray angle of 110°, directed forward and backward in relation to the direction of sprayer movement. It has a 60° angle between its two fans. The measurement of the coefficient of variation of transverse liquid distribution was done using the Hardi Spray Scanner patternator. The obtained results indicate that the height of field boom setup, the angle of inclination, and their interaction had the strongest influence on the value of the coefficient of variation of transverse liquid distribution for the field boom equipped with the DGTJ60 11003VS nozzle. Field boom setup during the spraying at the height of 0.5–0.6 m, keeping field boom inclination from 0° to 2°, and using the liquid pressure of 0.4 MPa allowed for gaining the lowest values of the coefficient from 5.03% to 6.53%.

Abstract

Abstract The azimuthal anisotropy of particles associated with jets (jet particles) at midrapidity is measured for the first time in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 5.02 TeV down to transverse momentum (p T) of 0.5 GeV/c and 2 GeV/c, respectively, with ALICE. The results obtained in p-Pb collisions are based on a novel three-particle correlation technique. The azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v 2 in high-multiplicity p-Pb collisions is positive, with a significance reaching 6.8σ at low p T, and its magnitude is smaller than in semicentral Pb-Pb collisions. In contrast to the measurements in Pb-Pb collisions, the v 2 coefficient is also found independent of p T within uncertainties. Comparisons with the inclusive charged-particle v 2 and with AMPT calculations are discussed. The predictions suggest that parton interactions play an important role in generating a non-zero jet-particle v 2 in p-Pb collisions, even though they overestimate the reported measurement. These observations shed new insights on the understanding of the origin of the collective behaviour of jet particles in small systems such as p-Pb collisions, and provide significant stringent new constraints to models.

Abstract

Abstract The ALICE experiment was proposed in 1993, to study strongly-interacting matter at extreme energy densities and temperatures. This proposal entailed a comprehensive investigation of nuclear collisions at the LHC. Its physics programme initially focused on the determination of the properties of the quark–gluon plasma (QGP), a deconfined state of quarks and gluons, created in such collisions. The ALICE physics programme has been extended to cover a broader ensemble of observables related to Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the theory of strong interactions. The experiment has studied Pb–Pb, Xe–Xe, p–Pb and pp collisions in the multi-TeV centre of mass energy range, during the Run 1–2 data-taking periods at the LHC (2009–2018). The aim of this review is to summarise the key ALICE physics results in this endeavor, and to discuss their implications on the current understanding of the macroscopic and microscopic properties of strongly-interacting matter at the highest temperatures reached in the laboratory. It will review the latest findings on the properties of the QGP created by heavy-ion collisions at LHC energies, and describe the surprising QGP-like effects in pp and p–Pb collisions. Measurements of few-body QCD interactions, and their impact in unraveling the structure of hadrons and hadronic interactions, will be discussed. ALICE results relevant for physics topics outside the realm of QCD will also be touched upon. Finally, prospects for future measurements with the ALICE detector in the context of its planned upgrades will also be briefly described.

Abstract

Abstract Immunochemotherapy has been the mainstay of treatment for newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (ndDLBCL) yet is inadequate for many patients. In this work, we perform unsupervised clustering on transcriptomic features from a large cohort of ndDLBCL patients and identify seven clusters, one called A7 with poor prognosis, and develop a classifier to identify these clusters in independent ndDLBCL cohorts. This high-risk cluster is enriched for activated B-cell cell-of-origin, low immune infiltration, high MYC expression, and copy number aberrations. We compare and contrast our methodology with recent DLBCL classifiers to contextualize our clusters and show improved prognostic utility. Finally, using pre-clinical models, we demonstrate a mechanistic rationale for IKZF1/3 degraders such as lenalidomide to overcome the low immune infiltration phenotype of A7 by inducing T-cell trafficking into tumors and upregulating MHC I and II on tumor cells, and demonstrate that TCF4 is an important regulator of MYC-related biology in A7.

Abstract

Nawet jeżeli integrację poznania rozproszonego z mechanistycznymi koncepcjami wyjaśniania można uznać za ruch interesujący, a w przypadku powodzenia prowadzący do niebanalnego rozszerzenia kognitywistycznych badań nad poznaniem, to z perspektywy teoretyka poznania rozproszonego należy uznać ten ruch za ryzykowny. W poniższej pracy, w dyskusji z propozycją Witolda Wachowskiego (2022), postaram się przedstawić ryzyko, z jakim wiąże się wspomniana integracja i zaproponuję rozwiązanie alternatywne, polegające na połączeniu rozproszenia poznania z teorią sieci. 50. New developments for ALICE MasterClasses and the new Particle Therapy MasterClass

Abstract

International MasterClasses (IMC), an outreach activity of the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG), has been bringing cuttingedge particle physics research to schoolchildren for over 15 years now. All four LHC experiments participate in the event, including ALICE, the experiment optimised for the study of heavy-ion collisions. Heavy-ion physics is actively contributing to IMC with new developments such as experimental measurements but also applications for society, such as treatment of cancer with ions. In particular, ALICE provides three MC measurements related to the main observables used to characterize the properties of the produced Quark-Gluon Plasma. Historically, those MC measurements were developed independently, inheriting from the first one, by several ALICE groups. Since all of them are based on the ROOT EVE package, a project to integrate them into a common framework was undertaken. ALICE delivers now a single and easy-to-use application, compiled under Linux, MacOS, and, for the first time, Windows. Then, in line with current IPPOG goals to increase the global reach and scope of the IMC programme a newly developed measurement on medical applications of particle physics, the Particle Therapy MasterClass (PTMC) was introduced in the IMC2020 programme. It is a simplified version of matRad, a MATLAB-based toolkit for calculation of dose deposition in the body and allows for planning of radiotherapy using different modalities and highlighting the benefits of treatment with ions.
