Born into a Serbian-Sephardic family in German-occupied Belgrade, I imbibed the memories of my maternal family, Sephardic Jews from Sarajevo, and especially of my aunt Laura Papo Bohoreta, one of the first feminists in the Balkans and a chronicler of female Sephardic life at the turn of the twentieth century. With the success of my Balkan trilogies, which connect the two most important centers of Sephardic life in the Balkans, Belgrade and Sarajevo, I brought Sephardic history and culture and their place in Balkan memory, from the late seventeenth century up to the 1990s, to a very wide public., Nothing exists without the story.
