Trabalhos conduzidos em condições de laboratório têm mostrado significativa adsorção de alumínio por partículas de fosfato de Araxá, de modo a formar 'um provável capeamento dessas partículas. Esse efeito, com possível alteração da solubilização desse fosfato, não foi, ainda, testado quanto à resposta de planta, objetivo deste trabalho. Amostras de três solos de área de cerrado, com e sem calagem, receberam dose única de apatita de Araxá equivalente a 250 mg/dm3 de P, com base no teor de fós foro total. A apatita foi aplicada como fosfato natural não-tratado (To) (Testemunha) e com os seguintes tratamentos: fosfato agitado com uma solução-tampão de acetato de sódio-ácido acético em pH 4,5 (To%) e fosfato capeado com doses crescentes de alumínio, na forma de AlC13.6H20, em solução tamponada em pH 4,5, correspondentes a 33, 66 e 99 % da adsorção máxima de alumínio pela apatita (T33%, T66% e T99%). Os tratamentos foram dispostos, em casa de vegetação, no delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Como planta-teste utilizou-se o sorgo (Sorghum bicolor Moench) ºbr-300'. Pelos resultados conclui-se que: l. A diferença entre solos quanto à capacidade máxima de adsorção de fosfato promoveu uma solubilização diferencial do fosfato, sem, contudo, um correspondente aumento da disponibilidade de fósforo para as plantas. 2. O aumento do pH do solo promoveu crescimento menor das plantas, evidenciando-se que, com a aplicação de calagem, o cálcio, como íon comum à apatita, favoreceu o deslocamento do equilíbrio para a manutenção do fosfato como composto menos solúvel. 3. O capeamento das partículas da apatita de Araxá com o alumínio não limitou a liberação de fósforo e de cálcio, não alterando, portanto, o crescimento das plantas. Significant adsorption of aluminum, as a coating, on particles of Araxá phosphate rock (APR) has been shown under laboratory conditions. The main objective as this work is to test the probable alteration on the solubilization of this phosphate. Three soil samples from the cerrado region, with lime and without lime, received 250 mg of total P por dm3 of APR. APR samples were submitted to different treatments: non-treated commercial form (To); shaken with a sodium acetate-acetic acid solution buffered at pH 4.5 (T0%), and APR coated with increasing doses of AlCl3.6H2O in solution, equally buffered at pH 4.5, corresponding to33, 66 and 99 % of the APR aluminum maximum adsorption (T33%, T66%and T99%, respectively). The experiment Was arranged in a randomized block design with four replications. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor Moench, “Br-300”) was used as test plant. The To treatment showed the highest plant dry matter yield in all soils. In general, for the without lime treatments-plant growth was higher when compared with the treatments with lime. The To% treatment caused smaller plant growth than tratrnents T33%, T66% and T99%. Dry matter yield, phosphorus and calcium up take by the plants indicated that the coating of the APR particles by aluminum does not limit the supply of these nutrients to the plants.
