We have investigated Stark line broadening within the spectral series of potassium-like and copper-like emitters, both separately and together. The analysis was performed for fixed values of electronic density Ne = 1022 m−3 and temperature $T = 100\, 000$ K. Algorithms made for fast data processing also serve for temperature and density normalization of data. Relations obtained using the regularity-based analysis enable predictions of Stark widths for transitions that have not yet been calculated or measured. Results of present investigation can be used for quality control of available Stark width data.

Stark widths within spectral series of sodium isoelectronic sequence have been studied. This is a unique approach that includes both neutrals and ions. Two levels of problem are considered: if the required atomic parameters are known, Stark widths can be calculated by some of the known methods (in present paper modified semiempirical formula has been used), but if there is a lack of parameters, regularities enable determination of Stark broadening data. In the framework of regularity research, Stark broadening dependence on environmental conditions and certain atomic parameters has been investigated. The aim of this work is to give a simple model, with minimum of required parameters, which can be used for calculation of Stark broadening data for any chosen transitions within sodium like emitters. Obtained relations were used for predictions of Stark widths for transitions that have not been measured or calculated yet. This system enables fast data processing by using of proposed theoretical model and it provides quality control and verification of obtained results.

Magnetoplasma compressor (MPC), a type of plasma accelerators, is used for treatment and alloying of steel samples: steel 100Cr6, steel 16MnCr5 and steel 42CrMo4. The high-speed plasma flow formed within the MPC, from helium with 5% of hydrogen as working gas, is directed to the surface of the samples. The energy flux density of the plasma flow in the plasma-sample interaction area is 9 J c m 2 . Plasma melts the near-surface layer and during the rapid cooling process, a thin layer with structure different from initial is created. Changes in the physical composition of the substrate are monitored depending on the number of plasma treatments. After treatment with a plasma produced within MPC, a significant improvement of hardness has been achieved.

In Serbia, one of the former republics of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, men and women have equal access to higher education and professional employment. However, in practice, this equality is not always realized. In this paper we describe the status of women in physics in Serbia, focusing on student gender ratios and on positions held. The financial contributions of the Serbian government to the scientific sector are not sufficient. Many young physicists enter the information technology sector, where they can earn higher salaries. In addition, the lack of career opportunities motivates scientists to go abroad, so each year, more and more young people leave Serbia. Today, many young Serbian physicists plan their departure during their studies and leave the country immediately after graduation. We present statis- tical data for the last several years, reviewing the percentage of women who are pursuing physics as a subject of study or a profession. We report gender ratios at various career stages. Teaching at the primary and high-school level is the main professional activity for female physicists in Serbia. Even though a large percentage (about 50%) of Serbian physicists are female, few women hold positions in which decisions about scientific and educational policy are made. When women achieve leadership positions, their educational attainments often outstrip those required for the positions. Only six women have a high-level management position.
