It is widely known that the impact of atmospheric humidity on tribological phenomena is significant, particularly in the context of dry sliding. Previous reviews have comprehensively addressed various cases within this domain and this article aims to complement these reviews with recent findings. The review covers a wide spectrum of humidity levels, ranging from trace amounts of water in the order of a few vol ppb to the relative humidity levels experienced in daily life. It delineates the forms of adsorbed water on solid surfaces within each humidity range and explores the potential physical lubrication mechanism of the adsorbed water and its effects on tribological phenomena. In the past, explanations for this influence have tended to be qualitative, primarily viewed from the perspective of chemical reactions. This discussion seeks to broaden the understanding by considering the influences from a physical lubrication perspective. Concluding the review, recent research findings are presented, shedding light on instances where trace amounts of water present in gases such as hydrogen exert an influence on tribological phenomena.

Abstract Background The rapid evolution of nanotechnology has fundamentally transformed both medical and dental fields. By harnessing nanomaterials, researchers have unlocked the ability to replicate natural tissue structures and properties, significantly enhancing integration processes. Notably, nanostructures have emerged as pivotal elements in oral medicine, particularly in combating dental caries and enhancing outcomes in dental implants and maxillofacial surgeries. Main body of the abstract Nanostructures play multifaceted roles in oral health, promoting osseointegration and expediting healing processes in dental procedures. The impact of these materials extends to improving the adhesive strength and overall properties of dental composites. This review critically evaluates the influence of nanointerfaces on the longevity of dental restorations, exploring innovative nanotechnological interventions aimed at augmenting restoration durability. Furthermore, recent strides in nanodentistry are discussed, highlighting breakthroughs in oral health diagnostics, preventative strategies, and treatment modalities essential for achieving and sustaining optimal oral health. Short conclusion Incorporating nanotechnology into dental practice presents exciting prospects for advancing oral healthcare. From enhancing restoration durability to revolutionizing diagnostics and treatments, nanotechnology offers transformative solutions that hold significant promise for the future of oral health management.

This study aims to explore the interaction effects of the audit committee (AC), the internal audit function (IAF), as well as the external auditors (EA) toward earnings management between government-linked companies (GLCs) in Malaysia. This study used regression analysis on 340 firm-year-based observations with Malaysian GLCs available on the Bursa Malaysia main board during the 2009 – 2018. This study found that the interaction between the AC and the IAF is significantly and negatively correlated with EM. However, the AC's interaction with the EA shows an insignificant relationship in reducing EM. Additionally, the interaction between EA and the IAF negatively affects EM. It is one of the first papers to explore the complementary impact of external and internal corporate governance functionality or mechanisms on EM.

With the intensifying challenge of global warming driven largely by anthropogenic activities, effective greenhouse gas capture techniques are critical. This paper focuses on the role of deep eutectic solvents (DES) as promising agents for such capture at the source. We review the key DES-based methods for greenhouse gas capture, drawing conclusions from a thorough analysis of the existing literature. In particular, we examine the effect of DES structure on gas solubilities and explore the mechanism of gas solubility in DES through molecular simulation. We present a synthesis of state-of-the-art results in this area, assessing the potential of DES as an alternative to current industrial gas capture methods. Furthermore, we propose future research directions for the design of novel DES tailored to more specific applications.

Abstract Background Diabetes is a major public health problem in Qatar and is associated with an increased risk of depression. However, no study has been conducted in Qatar on the relationship between dietary patterns and depression symptoms in adults. The aim of this study was to assess the association between dietary patterns and depression symptoms among adults with or without diabetes in Qatar. Methods A total of 1000 participants from the Qatar Biobank (QBB) were included in this cross-sectional study. Food intake was assessed using a computer-administered food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), and dietary patterns were identified using factor analysis. Depression symptoms were evaluated using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Results Depression symptoms were present in 13.5% of the sample. Two dietary patterns were identified: “unhealthy” (high consumption of fast food, biryani, mixed dish (chicken/meat/fish), croissant) and “prudent” (high consumption of fresh fruit, salads/raw vegetables, canned/dried fruit, and dates). After adjusting for sociodemographic, lifestyle factors (smoking and physical activity), diabetes and medication use for diabetes and hypertension, a high intake of “unhealthy” pattern was associated with an increased prevalence of depressive symptoms in individuals with diabetes (prevalence ratio, PR = 1.41; 95% CI = 1.28, 1.56; p-value

Abstract Background A logbook system is essential to ensure standardized competency in medical education. This survey will provide the first overview of our current logbook and can serve as an initial proposal for improvement to a more relevant and valuable tool to assess our postgraduate training programme. Methods This survey was conducted among all Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) anaesthetic trainees. The data for this survey was collected by using Google Forms. A link to the form was distributed to all UKM anaesthetic trainees. The survey questionnaire consisted of five sections, demographic data, strengths and weaknesses of logbook content, evaluation of logbook usage experience, perception of the feedback received regarding the logbook performance, and potential improvements that can be made. Results 107 anaesthetic trainees participated in this study. All of the sections in the logbook were deemed relevant by more than 60% of the trainees except for the on-call section which was seen as relevant only by 37.4% of them. 53.3% agreed that the logbook is useful for learning during the course. However, only 43.9% of them perceived that the logbook was easy and convenient to use. Only 59 respondents received feedback regarding their logbook performance. The analysis of open-ended answers highlights the necessity of transitioning to a fully digitalized logbook system for easy accessibility. It also reveals the need to re-evaluate specific logbook contents and incorporate additional teaching and learning tools to enhance the overall training process. Moreover, the findings emphasize the importance of effectively implementing feedback mechanisms within the logbook system to optimize student learning. Conclusion Serving as a foundational step towards developing a more efficient and structured educational tool, this research provides valuable insights for future advancements in medical education, particularly in anaesthesiology.

This study aims to explore the impact of coronavirus pandemic-related variables and non-pharmaceutical interventions on fluctuations in the Malaysian stock market during the period from January 7, 2020, to March 31, 2021. By employing GARCH-M (1,1) family models (GARCH-M, EGARCH-M, and PGARCH-M), the study seeks to understand the intricate dynamics of market volatility amidst the pandemic and associated interventions. The findings suggest that while past market volatility and conditional variance continue to influence current market fluctuations, their effects have diminished over time during the study period. Additionally, the EGARCH-M (1,1) model reveals a leverage effect, indicating increased market volatility following negative news compared to positive news. Interestingly, the EGARCH-M (1,1) model emerges as the optimal choice for accurately capturing data dynamics. Conversely, the PGARCH-M (1,1) model does not exhibit a statistically significant leverage effect. These insights contribute to a better understanding of market behavior during crises, informing future research and risk management strategies. Abstract Background Substance use disorders are a widely recognized problem among hepatitis C-infected patients; moreover, substance abuse by intravenous injection is a common mode of transmission of the hepatitis C virus worldwide. The frequency of substance use disorders and their relation to hepatitis C infection are still unknown in Iraq. This cross-sectional study, conducted among a sample of hepatitis C- infected patients attending the Gastrointestinal Tract Center in Baghdad Medical City, aimed to examine the prevalence of substance use disorders, the sociodemographic characteristics of the abusers, and the relation between intravenous drug abuse and hepatitis C virus infection. All participants were subjected to an Alcohol, Smoking, and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) questionnaire and a data form to determine sociodemographic characteristics and hepatitis C virus-related risk factors. Results In a total of 300 hepatitis C virus-infected patients, the prevalence of substance use disorders was 53.6%. Among these patients, 43.6% abused nicotine, 6% abused licit drugs, and 4% abused alcohol. No one reported illicit drug abuse. Intravenous drug abuse was rare, and there was no relationship found between intravenous drug abuse and hepatitis C infection. Cupping (23%) and blood transfusion (20.3%) were both significantly associated with hepatitis C transmission in this study (p > 0.001). Conclusion This study revealed a high prevalence (53.6%) of substance abuse in this sample of hepatitis C-infected patients, with nicotine being the most commonly abused substance. However, there was no relationship between hepatitis C infection and intravenous drug abuse. Common risk factors that might contribute to hepatitis C transmission among this population include cupping and blood transfusion.

Abstract Background Equitable geographical distribution of health resources, such as hospital beds, is fundamental in ensuring public accessibility to healthcare services. This study examines the distribution of hospital beds across Saudi Arabia's 20 health regions. Methods A secondary data analysis was conducted using the 2022 Saudi Ministry of Health Statistical Yearbook. The study focused on calculating the hospital beds-per-1,000-people ratio across Saudi Arabia's 20 health regions. The analysis involved comparing regional bed distributions using the Gini index and Lorenz curve to assess the distribution of hospital beds. Results The national average beds-per-1,000-people ratio was 2.43, serving a population of approximately 32.2 million. The calculated mean Gini index for bed distribution was 0.15, which indicates a relatively equitable distribution. Further analysis revealed some regional disparities, with health regions like Makkah and Jeddah displaying critically low bed-to-population ratios. In contrast, others like Al-Jouf and the Northern region reported higher ratios. The study also identified the need for an additional 17,062 beds to meet international standards of 2.9 beds per 1,000 people. Conclusions The findings revealed a national average beds-per-1,000-people ratio of 2.43, with some regional disparities. The study highlights the critical need for targeted healthcare planning and policy interventions to address the uneven distribution of hospital beds across Saudi Arabia. Abstract Targeting brain insulin resistance (BIR) has become an attractive alternative to traditional therapeutic treatments for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Incretin receptor agonists (IRAs), targeting either or both of the glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors, have proven to reverse BIR and improve cognition in mouse models of AD. We previously showed that many, but not all, IRAs can cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) after intravenous (IV) delivery. Here we determined if widespread brain uptake of IRAs could be achieved by circumventing the BBB using intranasal (IN) delivery, which has the added advantage of minimizing adverse gastrointestinal effects of systemically delivered IRAs. Of the 5 radiolabeled IRAs tested (exenatide, dulaglutide, semaglutide, DA4-JC, and DA5-CH) in CD-1 mice, exenatide, dulaglutide, and DA4-JC were successfully distributed throughout the brain following IN delivery. We observed significant sex differences in uptake for DA4-JC. Dulaglutide and DA4-JC exhibited high uptake by the hippocampus and multiple neocortical areas. We further tested and found the presence of AD-associated Aβ pathology minimally affected uptake of dulaglutide and DA4-JC. Of the 5 tested IRAs, dulaglutide and DA4-JC are best capable of accessing brain regions most vulnerable in AD (neocortex and hippocampus) after IN administration. Future studies will need to be performed to determine if IN IRA delivery can reduce BIR in AD or animal models of that disorder.

Industrial facilities that participate significantly in the production of many human needs and are useful in various activities. This study evaluates the impact of an electric power generation station, an oil refinery, and a brick factory on emissions and liquid waste that pollute soil and plants with lead and cadmium in the surrounding areas. Soil samples were taken in four dimensions, with a distance of 500 m between each sample. the results showed that the levels of heavy metals analyzed were high for both lead and cadmium, as the lead concentration ranged between 150.30 - 22.15, 240.40 - 30.20, and 250.33 - 21.91. The results indicated the total concentration of cadmium, which ranged between (0.50 - 2.20) and (0.90 - 2.51). ) and (0.55 - 1.66) mg Cd kg-1 soil for each of the electric power generation station, oil refinery, and brick factories, respectively. The highest value of the pollution factor was recorded at distance of 500 m, which amounted to 11.42, which is within the range of CF ˃6. This indicates very high pollution. As for the distance of 2000 m, it reached 3.65, which indicates high pollution. The highest value for the environmental risk index Er with lead in the soil of brick factories was at the distance of 500 and 1000 m, as it reached 57.10 and 41.10 respectively. It was with low limits to Moderately toxic to lead and moderate to highly toxic to cadmium. However, a mechanism must be developed to reduce the concentrations of these elements, which are enriched by these industrial facilities.

Law enforcement against exhibitionists is crucial in maintaining public order and morality. This study examines law enforcement against exhibitionists based on criminal law and Islamic criminal law. The research method used is normative legal research with a statute and conceptual approach. The statute approach is employed to review existing laws and regulations. In contrast, the conceptual approach explores the principles of Islamic criminal law related to law enforcement against exhibitionism. The results of this study show that in the context of general criminal law, the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) regulates articles that can be applied to exhibitionists. Criminal sanctions stipulated in Articles 281 and 282 of the Penal Code include imprisonment and fines for those who distribute, create, or store obscene images, including those involving exhibitionism. Article 335 of the Penal Code also regulates indecent acts in public, which can include exhibitionism. According to Islamic criminal law, the form of punishment for exhibitionist behavior is jarimah ta'zir. Among the Syafi'iyah and Hanabillah scholars, it is argued that the maximum punishment is ten lashes. Meanwhile, according to the Malikiyyah scholars, the punishment of lashes may exceed this limit as long as it serves a beneficial purpose. This study concludes that law enforcement against exhibitionism requires integrating general and Islamic criminal law to create a balanced legal framework that aligns with societal values. Additionally, the importance of public awareness of the social impact of exhibitionism and participation in law enforcement is emphasized

Abstract Genetic heterogeneity in ovarian cancer indicates the need for personalised treatment approaches. Currently, very few G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) have been investigated for active targeting with nanomedicines such as antibody-conjugated drugs and drug-loaded nanoparticles, highlighting a neglected potential to develop personalised treatment. To address the genetic heterogeneity of ovarian cancer, a future personalised approach could include the identification of unique GPCRs expressed in cancer biopsies, matched with personalised GPCR-targeted nanomedicines, for the delivery of lethal drugs to tumour tissue before, during and after surgery. Here we report on the systematic analysis of public ribonucleic acid-sequencing (RNA-seq) gene expression data, which led to prioritisation of 13 GPCRs as candidates with frequent overexpression in ovarian cancer tissues. Subsequently, primary ovarian cancer cells derived from ascites and ovarian cancer cell lines were used to confirm frequent gene expression for the selected GPCRs. However, the expression levels showed high variability within our selection of samples, therefore, supporting and emphasising the need for the future development of case-to-case personalised targeting approaches.

Abstract The current research explored the possible protective effect of chenopodium quinoa extract against CCl4 acute liver toxicity in Sprague Dawley rats. Thirty rats were divided into five groups with six rats in each group. CCl4 (Carbon tetrachloride) was administered at a dose rate of 2 mL/kg b.w. intra‐peritoneally once a week for 3 weeks. The plant extract was given through oral gavage for a period of 21 days. Group I served as a normal group which was given with basal diet. Group II was referred to as a positive control group and received CCl4 2 mL/kg body weight (i.p.). Group III was the standard treatment group and received 2 mL/kg CCl4 (i.p.) and 16 mg/kg body weight (p.o.) silymarin. Group IV was the plant treatment group, which received 2 mL/kg CCl4 (i.p.) and 600 mg/kg body weight of quinoa seed extract (p.o.). Group V was the combined treatment group, which received 2 mL/kg CCl4 (i.p.) accompanied with a combination of silymarin (p.o.) 16 mg/kg body weight and quinoa seed extract (p.o.) 600 mg/kg body weight. The liver biomarkers were assessed along with histopathological analysis to observe the changes in the liver. The outcome suggested that the treatment, which was given with the combination of silymarin and quinoa seed extract, significantly enhanced the antioxidant levels, reduced the oxidative stress, and restored the liver function as evidenced by biochemical parameters histopathological studies. The hepatoprotective potential may be due to the antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties of quinoa seed extract.

Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic and chronic disease linked to lifestyle factors like dietary patterns and physical inactivity. This randomized clinical study aimed to develop a novel dietary intervention using pomegranate peel powder‐based multigrain chapatti to prevent diabetes. The product was formulated by incorporating pomegranate peel powder into a mixture of wheat flour, pearl flour, millet flour, and chickpea flour. The study included the formulation of various treatments (Tc, T1, T2, and T3) following product development, and these treatments were subjected to comprehensive assessments. The nutritional composition and antioxidant potential of the pomegranate peel powder‐based multigrain chapatti were analyzed. Sensory attributes, including taste, texture, and overall acceptability, were evaluated. Additionally, biochemical analyses, including blood glucose levels and HbA1C, were conducted to assess the impact of the interventions on blood glucose metabolism. The results revealed that the nutritional profile and phytochemical potential of the product improved significantly in treatment T3, which contained 15% pomegranate juice. Overall acceptability was found to be high for T3, indicating that the inclusion of pomegranate peel powder was well received in terms of taste and sensory qualities. Importantly, the clinical trial demonstrated positive outcomes in the intervention group receiving the pomegranate peel powder‐based multigrain chapatti. Blood glucose analysis and HbA1C assessments indicated that the consumption of this innovative dietary product contributed to improved blood glucose metabolism, suggesting its potential as a preventive strategy for diabetes.

Abstract The tropical and subtropical regions of the world support the growth of the Indian plant Moringa oleifera. It usually goes by the name drumstick tree or horseradish tree and thrives in warm climates. The leaves of the M. oleifera tree are now frequently used as nutrients and nutraceuticals due to their availability of various minerals. While having only very minor antinutritional effects, the leaves are abundant in many beneficial compounds. A recent review of the bioactive components and activity of moringa leaves has focused on both in vivo and in vitro studies. Drumstick leaves have antidiabetic qualities, anti‐inflammatory, anticancer, and antibacterial qualities among other health benefits. Phytochemicals, in addition to minerals and vitamins, are abundant in this vegetable. The majority of these effects, according to a review in the literature, are mostly brought on by the presence of carotenoids, glucosinolates, and phytochemicals. As a value‐added component in the production of wholesome meals, moringa is becoming more popular. Despite extensive research into locating and quantifying these advantageous elements in drumstick leaves, bioavailability and bioaccessibility studies were carried out. Beneficial photochemicals are absorbed and digested through incredibly intricate processes that involve several physicochemical and physiological interactions. Therefore, the biological impact of food may be attributed to its various metabolites that can access particular areas of action rather than its original substances. This body of literature offers the most recent findings in scientific research on the bioavailability, health advantages, nutritional profiles, and bioactive activities of moringa leaves as they relate to their use in a range of food products. Drumsticks are frequently used as a food element that promotes health because of their potent protection against a variety of ailments and the presence of environmental pollutants.

Abstract Dombi operations based on the Dombi t-norm (TN) and t-conorm (TCN) have the advantage in terms of operational parameter flexibility in dealing with varying degrees of uncertainty and aggregation requirements. Meanwhile, Heronian mean (HM) operator is an effective technique for capturing the interrelationship between any number of inputs. Bipolar neutrosophic set (BNS) offers the ability to represent both positive and negative information as well as indeterminate information. It is beneficial in cases where there is uncertainty or insufficient information. However, the existing Dombi operator under BNS do not take into account the interrelationship between input arguments. To overcome this limitation, this study incorporates Dombi operator into HM and propose the bipolar neutrosophic Dombi Heronian mean aggregation operator. This paper introduces two type of aggregation operators namely bipolar neutrosophic Dombi-based generalized weighted Heronian mean (BND-GWHM), and bipolar neutrosophic Dombi-based improved generalized weighted Heronian mean (BND-IGWHM). The proposed operators are integrated into MCDM procedure. The influence of different parameter values on decision-making results is discussed. Finally, a comparison analysis with existing methods is also provided.

Abstract Many studies have investigated the coronary risk factors (CRFs) among premature coronary artery disease (PCAD) patients. However, reports on the proportion and CRFs of PCAD according to different age cut-offs for PCAD is globally under-reported. Abstract Background Interprofessional education (IPE) is essential to foster collaboration among healthcare professionals for holistic patient care. However, Malaysian dental education remains discipline-centric, hindering multidisciplinary learning approaches. Hence, this study aimed to explore Malaysian undergraduate dental students’ perceptions of IPE. Methods The present cross-sectional study employed convenience sampling to survey undergraduate dental students from four Malaysian institutions using a modified questionnaire with 20 close-ended and 2 open-ended questions. The questionnaire covered three domains (effectiveness, preference, importance) to assess students’ perceptions using a five-point Likert scale. Psychometric validation was performed to assure validity and reliability of the modified questionnaire. Quantitative analysis (descriptive and inferential statistics), and qualitative analysis (content analysis) were subsequently performed. Results 397 students responded, and positive perceptions were generally noted with mean scores ranging from 4.13 to 4.35 across all domains. Questions 2 and 3, assessing the improvement in understanding the roles and responsibilities, and communication among healthcare professionals, received the highest mean scores. Meanwhile, Question 15 concerning the incorporation of IPE into educational goals received the lowest mean score. Regression analysis identified gender and clinical phase as significant factors, with females and preclinical students exhibiting more favourable perceptions. Motivators for IPE included a keen interest in diverse perspectives and recognising the importance of teamwork, while barriers encompassed tightly packed schedules, lack of understanding about IPE, misconceptions regarding dental education, and students’ nervousness and fear of participation. Conclusion This study produced a valid and reliable instrument to measure undergraduate dental students’ perceptions towards IPE. Strategic planning, such as overcoming logistical challenges, improving awareness, and creating a supportive learning environment are crucial for successful IPE integration into existing curricula, especially in resource-constrained developing countries like Malaysia.

Environmental monitoring of pesticide residues has become increasingly crucial for ensuring food safety and environmental sustainability. Current demands are not met by traditional analytical tools, but the integration of smartphones, due to their small size, high accessibility, fast processing speed, and powerful imaging capacity, holds significant potential for on-site detection of pesticide residues. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in the application of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensors equipped with smartphones for the detection of pesticide residues in environmental samples, covering the period from 2018 to 2024. The review encompasses recent advancements in MIP synthesis, sensor fabrication, and the incorporation of principles for improved signal precision with the integration of smartphones based on sensing signals (optical and electrochemical signals). Additionally, the diverse range of environmental samples were explored, including water, soil, and crops, where MIP sensors have demonstrated their efficacy in detecting pesticides. The potential for real-time monitoring and the challenges associated with deploying these sensors at lab scale are discussed. Overall, this review highlights the transformative impact of MIP sensors with smartphone-based detection in the field of pesticide residue analysis, paving the way for enhanced environmental monitoring practices.

Nurse performance is an activity in implementing authority, duties and responsibilities in order to achieve the main tasks of the profession and organization. Discharge planning is a stage that has the goal of preparing the patient during the post-treatment transition period so that he can return home. Purpose of this study in general was to determine the corre. lation between nurse performance and successful documentation in the implementation of discharge planning at inpatient care at Hospital, Banjarmasin. Method this research is quantitative by using infants and post-partum care, totaling 6,5 executive nurse. in taking the simple Random Sampling Technique. Result. Thus it can be concluded that there is a correlation between the performance variables of nurses and the implementation of discharge planning in the inpatient care of Hospital, Banjarmasin. Health services are expected to always improve the performance of good nurses for health services, especially nurses in implementing discharge planning for patients, nurse performance is very important in completing nursing tasks such as implementing discharge planning in hospitalization. In order to create good quality for the quality of health services in hospitals.

In this study, tempeh was developed using a probiotic culture of Lactobacillus rhamnosus adjunct culture. Purposely, soybean seeds were soaked overnight at room temperature and then boiled at 100°C for 10 to 15 min. The hot beans were then spread out in a thin layer and allowed to cool to room temperature. The Lactobacillus rhamnosus culture was added to the soybeans, which were then tightly packed in perforated plastic bags and incubated at 30°C for 24 h to produce fresh tempeh. The tempeh was then analyzed for its physical, chemical, microbial, and sensory characteristics, and the data obtained was statistically analyzed. The results of the physical and chemical analysis showed that the probiotic tempeh had a slight increase in pH, ash, and protein content, while there was a significant decrease in acidity, moisture, and fat content during storage. The microbial analysis revealed that both the total plate count and probiotic count increased over time, with treatment T4, which contained a high amount of culture, exhibiting the maximum plate count and probiotic count. The sensory evaluation showed that both the treatment and storage duration significantly impacted the aroma, color, taste, and overall acceptability of the tempeh, with all sensory attributes decreasing over time. The sensory panelists rated treatment T4 the highest for overall acceptance. In conclusion, the study suggests that probiotic soybean tempeh could be a beneficial carrier for producing a product with good physicochemical properties, acceptability, high probiotic viability, and storage durability.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing and concerning threat to global public health, necessitating innovative strategies to combat this crisis. Amidine-containing compounds have emerged as promising agents in the battle against AMR. This review gives a summary of recent advances from the past decade in studies of antimicrobial amidine-containing compounds with the aim to feature their structural diversity and the pharmacological relevance of the moiety to antimicrobial activity and their potential use in combating antimicrobial resistance, to the greatest extent possible. Highlighting is put on chemical structure of such compounds in relation to antimicrobial activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic activities. Researchers commonly modify molecules containing amidine or incorporate amidine into existing antimicrobial agents to enhance their pharmacological attributes and combat antimicrobial resistance. This comprehensive review consolidates the current knowledge on amidine-containing compounds, elucidating their antimicrobial mechanisms and highlighting their promise in addressing the global AMR crisis. By offering a multidisciplinary perspective, we aim to inspire further research and innovation in this critical area of antimicrobial research.

This study examines the utilization of process optimization as a viable strategy for addressing the issue of global warming through the conversion of carbon dioxide into methanol. In the realm of computational chemistry, the response surface methodology approach has evolved as an alternative for optimizing the reaction parameters through the utilization of statistical models. In the present study, promoted copper/zinc oxide/alumina catalyst was used for carbon dioxide conversion to methanol. The primary objective of the study was to enhance the overall methanol yield by optimizing the various factors in the methanol synthesis. This was accomplished by employing a combination of response surface methodology and one factor at a time techniques. The creation of statistical models was used to optimize the essential factors, and subsequently, one factor at a time. This helps in determining the optimum pressure, temperature, and hydrogen/carbon dioxide molar ratio. Impregnation technique was employed for the synthesis of promoted copper/zinc oxide/alumina catalyst. The analysis of variance results suggested the reduced quadratic model for carbon dioxide conversion, methanol selectivity and methanol yield as responses. The optimum process operating conditions were found to be the hydrogen/carbon dioxide ratio of 10, temperature of 300°C, pressure of 31 bar and gas hourly space velocity of 2160 mL/g.h, in which 28.6% carbon dioxide conversion, 59.2% methanol selectivity and 16.4% methanol yield were achieved. The catalytic performance was then investigated for high pressure range of 40 – 80 bar with other conditions were fixed at optimal value. The carbon dioxide conversion and methanol selectivity were found to increase with increasing pressure. The highest catalytic performance was achieved at 80 bar with carbon dioxide conversion of 68.35%, methanol selectivity of 93%, and methanol yield of 63.57%.

This study includes the stratigraphic development of the Late Jurassic succession in eight boreholes namely, Si-1, Sal-1, Sa-1, Dn-1, Ki-1, R-172, WQ-15, and KSK -1, within the Mesopotamian Zone. The present study is concluded that the current area represents as part of the northern Arabian plate that was subjected to severe structural deformations prior to the beginning of the Late Jurassic sedimentation, which led to the formation of a vast depression (half graben) that formed a starved basin. This graben was created because of rift-related tectonism called extensional tectonic phase in the latest Middle Jurassic period, which led to the accumulation of high organic matter and formed the source rock (Naokelekan Formation) in the middle part of the graben during their highest and settings. Then this phase was followed by the occupation of the sedimentations (evaporates) in the center of the studied basin during the lowest conditions of the (Gotnia Formation) in the southern Iraq, Kuwait, and southwest Iran. During the highest and system tract after transgressive stage of the Sargelu Formation, the horst surrounding the graben, represents carbonate platforms, which consist of coral structures deposition that follow by Ooids deposits (non-skeletal) and then covered by evaporates sabkha type sediment (cap rock), this succession of sediments called the Najmah Formation. The lowstands stage conditions which are underlying by the sequence boundary type-I, which overlie the Najmah Formation and has been penetrated by Si-1, Sal-1, Sa-1 and Dn-1 wells in the southwestern of Iraq, the sequence boundary considered to be the time equivalent of the Gotnia Formation. The system of the north Arabian plate (Iraq, Kuwait) characterized by an extensional tectonic setting that formed a graben surrounded by shallow water carbonate (horst), while a relatively stable tectonic system predominant at the south-west of the Arabian plate due to its proximity to the Arabian shield, which led to the formation of a wide and flat carbonate platform (Najmah Formation) were covered by Sabkha evaporates.

In this study, multi-structured coatings of biocompatible and antibacterial materials on a 316L stainless steel (SS) implant have been electrophoretically deposited for orthopedic applications. Two layers of composite coatings have been deposited; the first layer of composite coating biopolymer layer consists of (chitosan with Gelatin) and the second composite coating layer of bio-ceramic comprises Hydroxyapatite with chitosan. The first layer was deposited at (3 g/L concentration of Gelatin, 20 voltage, and 3 min and 0.5 g/L chitosan) parameters, and the second layer was deposited at (6 g/L, 40 voltage, 1 min, and 0.5 g/L chitosan) parameters. In this study, the stability of the suspension was evaluated using the Zeta potential test, which manifested good stability. The adhesion strength between the composite coatings' first layer and the 316L stainless steel substrate, as well as between the coating layers themselves, was determined using the Tape test, and the removal area for the first layer was 8.06% while for the second layer was 6.01%. The wettability test elucidated for the 316L stainless steel and first coating layer and the second coating layer, the second composite coating layer became super hydrophilic, and a very high wettability was exhibited with multilayer coating. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the surface's topology revealed a homogenous and defect-free composite coating. The result of the antibacterial efficiency of the 316L SS substrate improved as the number of coating composite layers increased, and the resistance to corrosion of 316L SS enhanced as the number of coating composite layers increased.

Abstract Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a complex autoimmune disorder that significantly impacts the central nervous system, leading to a range of complications. While intracranial haemorrhage (ICH) is a rare but highly morbid complication, more common CNS complications include progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) and other CNS infections. This severe form of stroke, known for its high morbidity and mortality rates, presents a critical challenge in the management of MS. The use of disease-modifying drugs (DMDs) in treating MS introduces a nuanced aspect to patient care, with certain medications like Dimethyl Fumarate and Fingolimod showing potential in reducing the risk of ICH, while others such as Alemtuzumab and Mitoxantrone are associated with an increased risk. Understanding the intricate relationship between these DMDs, the pathophysiological mechanisms of ICH, and the individualised aspects of each patient's condition is paramount. Factors such as genetic predispositions, existing comorbidities, and lifestyle choices play a crucial role in tailoring treatment approaches, emphasising the importance of a personalised, vigilant therapeutic strategy. The necessity for ongoing and detailed research cannot be overstated. It is crucial to explore the long-term effects of DMDs on ICH occurrence and prognosis in MS patients, aiming to refine clinical practices and promote patient-centric, informed therapeutic decisions. This approach ensures that the management of MS is not only comprehensive but also adaptable to the evolving understanding of the disease and its treatments.

Strength enhancement of non-seismic concrete beam–column joints (NSCBCJs) via carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composites (CFRPCs) integration has become a viable strategy. However, the implementation of these NSCBCJs without transverse reinforcement shows poor performance during earthquakes in seismic locations. Thus, strengthening the anti-seismic performance of NSCBCJs to meet the acceptance criteria of ACI 374.1-05 is fundamentally significant. Yet, in addition to limited experimental results, only a few numerical studies based on the finite element model have been performed to determine the anti-seismic behavior of NSCBCJs. Consequently, the stress contribution of CFRPCs to NSCBCJs is not clearly understood. Therefore, we used a finite element model to examine the strength contribution of CFRPCs to NSCBCJs. The performance of the proposed finite element model was validated using the experimental results, demonstrating a good agreement between them. It was shown that the strength of NSCBCJs was improved due to CFRPC incorporation, thereby achieving compliance with the seismic requirements of ACI 374.1-05. In addition, CFRPCs presence could enhance the confinement, reduce the deformation of the NSCBCJs and, thus, decrease their stiffness and strength degradation, while simultaneously improving the energy dissipation.

Abstract The current study was planned to provide nutrient dense carbonated beverage fortified with chamomile herbal extract that was rich in healthy nutrients and best to use. Infusion method was used to prepare chamomile herbal extract. After adding flavor and sugar syrup, carbonation was done. Different treatments were prepared (T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5). The antioxidant potential, physiochemical properties, and sensory attributes of beverage were assessed. Results showed that addition of chamomile enhanced the antioxidant and physiochemical properties of beverage. The DPPH activity, total phenolic content, and total flavonoid content were observed as 49.23 ± 0.03 (%), 136.92 ± 0.06 (mg GAE/L), and 1989.47 ± 0.07 (mg QE/L), respectively, among T5 with 12% of chamomile extract. Moreover, the acidity increases from T0 to T5 (0.191 ± 0.01 to 0.220 ± 0.01). Furthermore, the overall acceptability of T4 was highest among sensory attributes.

Bone diseases are a serious health problem such as arthritis and osteoporosis. Their effects on the bones, structures, and tissues affect human life. Therefore, developing novel materials to evolve bone damage therapy is required. Bio-ceramic synthesis witnessed increased interest and attention due to the progression of bio-ceramic as high-quality materials to enhance bone healing, replacement, or regeneration. Among the inorganic materials, bioglasses and ceramics showed promising applications in medicine fields due to their several biological properties; for example, biocompatible, their compositions are similar to those in bones osteoinductive and osteoconductive. Thus, they considered promising materials for scaffold manufacturing to promote bone healing. This review aims to present the recent advancements in various classes of bio-ceramics, including inert-ceramics, bioactive ceramics, and bio-resorbable ceramics, and their wide medical applications in bone regeneration, overhauling skeletomuscular, as well as their mechanical issues.

Abstract Background Curriculum integration is an important educational concept widely implemented by various educational institutions, particularly within the healthcare field. Its significance lies in enhancing the preparation of future healthcare professionals. The assessment of these integrated curricula is imperative to guarantee their effectiveness. Consequently, the aim of this systematic review is to delve into existing literature, with the goal of identifying instruments designed to assess the extent of curriculum integration in health professions’ education. Methods A comprehensive search was conducted to identify peer-reviewed papers and grey literature describing the development, validation, or use of instruments measuring the degree of integration in a curriculum. Eight databases were searched: PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, CINAHL Ultimate, Web of Science, Cochrane, ProQuest Central and EMBASE. Grey literature was also included. Titles, abstracts, and full text screening was conducted. Data extraction was done using a data extraction tool developed by our research team. Results The search resulted in the identification of 2094 references. After the removal of duplicates and title and abstract screening, 16 articles were deemed suitable for inclusion in this systematic review. Twenty-two instruments were extracted from these articles. The identified instruments assessed either integration attributes, perceptions about the integrated curriculum characteristics, process and outcomes, or curriculum integration level. Two of the instruments were focused on assessing horizontal integration (Basic Science Curriculum Assessment Instrument and the integration characteristic tool). In addition, one instrument was developed to assess integration within a single session only, while other instruments assessed curriculum integration level. Two of the integration instruments (The Session Integration Tool and Integration Ladder Questionnaire) provided scales for calculating integration levels. Validation of the integration assessment instruments was infrequent, with only 9 of 22 instruments validated for their psychometric properties. Conclusion Our findings reveal the existence of diverse instruments designed to assess the extent of curriculum integration within health professions’ curricula. The majority of identified instruments were focused on participants’ perceptions towards the attributes of the integrated curriculum, and a significant number of these tools lacked validation.

Abstract Treatment intensification is essential to ensure guideline targets are attained in diabetes patients. The failure to intensify treatment when the targets are not achieved is therapeutic inertia. This study aimed to determine the proportions and factors associated with treatment intensification and therapeutic inertia of antihypertensive therapy in type 2 diabetes patients with uncontrolled hypertension in Malaysia. A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted utilising registry data. Diabetes hypertensive patients with uncontrolled baseline systolic or diastolic blood pressure were included. Treatment intensification was the increase in the number of antihypertensive agents from the index treatment. Therapeutic inertia was the absence of treatment intensification when the second blood pressure reading was still uncontrolled. About 6956 patients were followed up over 2.5 ± 1.1 person-years. Treatment intensification was observed in 29.8% of patients, while 38.6% had therapeutic inertia. Chinese, Indian, and ‘others’ ethnic groups, retinopathy, more antihypertensive agents, and higher systolic blood pressure were associated with therapeutic inertia. Underweight, overweight patients and those with dyslipidaemia had lower risks for therapeutic inertia. The results indicate suboptimal quality of care in public health clinics in Malaysia. Further studies are needed to determine the underlying causes to formulate precise interventions to tackle the problem in Malaysia.

The term “i-FinTech” refers to businesses or entrepreneurs that integrate modern, Shariah-compliant technologies with financial services. Nevertheless, MSMEs are typically having lack internal knowledge or poor management, incompetent entrepreneurs, and limited financial resources. The purpose of this research is to analyse if financial literacy elements affect i-FinTech adoption and, in turn, promote sustainable entrepreneurship among Bumiputera SMEs in Selangor, Malaysia. A convenience sample strategy was used to disseminate 1,394 surveys to the Bumiputera entrepreneurs, utilizing a quantitative approach. PLS-SEM and mediation analysis are used to analyse the data. The findings indicate that financial literacy and digital financial literacy have a favorable and significant impact on the adoption of i-Fintech. On the other hand, the adoption of i-Fintech is adversely affected by financial management behavior. Furthermore, this study shows that the relationship between financial literacy and digital financial literacy towards sustainable entrepreneurship is mediated in a complimentary way by the adoption of i-FinTech. This result indicates that Bumiputera business owners that are financially and digitally literate are more likely to use i-FinTech and ultimately make a substantial contribution to sustainable entrepreneurship. The results should improve knowledge of the dynamics between the potential of i-FinTech and sustainable entrepreneurship for researchers, regulators, entrepreneurs, and i-FinTech service providers. It is advised that MSMEs keep using i-FinTech to support their operations in order to minimise the effects of a downturn in the market and maintain seamless operations.

Background: Previous studies have shown that parents demand for information on vaccinations is universal. Nonetheless, parental knowledge demonstrated mixed results in vaccination intention, attitude, uptake, or confidence. In contrast, risk perception is a consistent predictor of vaccination-related outcomes. Objective: This study aimed to establish risk perception as a mediator between vaccination knowledge and intention. Method: Using a multistage random sampling technique, a cross-sectional survey was conducted with expectant mothers from maternity and child health clinics in the districts of Petaling, Klang, Gombak, and Hulu Langat. 416 respondents answered the self-administered questionnaire. Data was analysed using SPSS version 27 for descriptive statistics and Amos version 27 with bootstrapping procedure for mediation analysis. Results: Vaccination knowledge predicted risk perception [std β = 0.743, p = 0.036], risk perception predicted vaccination intention [std β = 0.934, p = 0.006], and risk perception fully mediate the relationship between vaccination knowledge and intention [std β = 0.694, p = 0.016]. The mediation model showed satisfactory fit indices: χ2/df (2.898), comparative fit index 0.946, Tucker-Lewis index 0.939, and root mean squared error of approximation 0.061. Conclusion: The goal of educational interventions is to increase vaccination intention by addressing vaccine information that influences both subjective and objective risk perception.

Estate planning is one of the crucial elements of managing property during a person’s lifetime.Unfortunately, it was reported that only 700,000 Muslims have declared their wills, out of a total population of 30 million Muslims in Malaysia. Therefore, thisresearch explained the main tools available for wealth distribution planning that are viable in Malaysia. Secondly, this research aims to investigate students in Islamic studies tendencies in estate management planning and its determinants. To achieve these objectives, a quantitative methodology was adopted in which the data of this research was through a questionnaire to assess their level of awareness. The findings revealed that the level of awareness of students in Islamic Studies Campus Shah Alam, Universiti Teknologi MARA towards wealth distribution management and asset distribution planning is high. This study exposed some of the flaws in wealth distribution management and proposed numerous approaches to raise awareness about wealth distribution planning.

Automatic pricing algorithms with artificial intelligence (AI) technology in e-commerce have a significant impact on the running of the industry. This creates benefits as well as reaps polemics. Discrimination against consumers is one of them. For this reason, comprehensive treatment is needed to prevent negative impressions from occurring and can lead to the creation of justice and fairness. This research is normative qualitative research with the support of case and comparison approaches. The research results show that the algorithm uses AI to set prices based on market factors, production costs, and competition, providing price flexibility, price relevance, and increased business efficiency. Positive impacts include increased efficiency, price relevance, and consumer reach, while negative impacts involve the risk of discrimination and supervisory difficulties. Regulation and supervision are needed to maintain justice and legal balance. Unfair competitive practices, such as sudden price fluctuations, need to be monitored. Explicit regulations are needed to address the gap between AI developments and the existing legal framework. The implementation of automatic pricing algorithms must pay attention to aspects of justice and legal balance.

As the demand for renewable energy sources continues to increase, solar energy is becoming an increasingly popular option. Therefore, effective training in solar energy systems design and operation is crucial to ensure the successful implementation of solar energy technology. To make this training accessible to a wide range of people from different backgrounds, it is important to develop effective and engaging training methods. Immersive virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a promising tool for enhancing solar energy training and education. In this paper, a unique method is presented to evaluate the effectiveness of an immersive VR experience for solar energy systems design using a multi-modal approach that includes a detailed analysis of user engagement. To gain a detailed analysis of user engagement, the VR experience was segmented into multiple scenes. Moreover, an eye-tracker and wireless wearable sensors were used to accurately measure user engagement and performance in each scene. The results demonstrate that the immersive VR experience was effective in improving users’ understanding of solar energy systems design and their ability to perform complex tasks. Moreover, by using sensors to measure user engagement, specific areas that required improvement were identified and insights for enhancing the design of future VR training experiences for solar energy systems design were provided. This research not only advances VR applications in solar energy education but also offers valuable insights for designing effective and engaging training modules using multi-modal sensory input and real-time user engagement analytics.

Abstract Background Epidemiological studies regarding the correlation between anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and insulin resistance (IR) in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) remain inconsistent. The primary aim of this study was to determine the correlations between AMH and IR in patients with PCOS and to explore the selected factors that influence the correlations. Methods We conducted systemic searches of online databases (PubMed, Science Direct, Taylor and Francis, Scopus, and ProQuest) from inception to December 20, 2023 and manual searches of the associated bibliographies to identify relevant studies. We then performed subgroup and sensitivity analyses to explore the sources of heterogeneity, followed by a publication bias risk assessment of the included studies using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tool. We used a random-effects model to estimate the pooled correlations between AMH and the homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Results Of the 4835 articles identified, 22 eligible relevant studies from three regions were included and identified as low risk of bias. The random-effects pooled correlation estimate was 0.089 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −0.040, 0.215), with substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 87%; τ2 = 0.0475, p

Abstract Skin cancer is common and deadly, needs to be detected and treated properly. Deep learning algorithms like UNet have shown potential results in medical imaging. Such approaches still struggle to capture fine‐grained details and scale differences in skin lesions‐based occlusions' appearance, size etc. This research proposes a redesign UNet, the Multi‐Scale Pyramid Attention Network (MSPAN), to improve skin cancer lesion segmentation. The input data is processed at numerous scales with varied receptive fields. This enhances the network's ability to identify lesion locations by capturing local and global context. Attention approaches also help the network to suppress noise by focusing on informative features. We have evaluated MSPAN model on the publicly available ISIC2018 benchmark dataset for skin lesion segmentation. The method surpasses traditional UNet and other current methods in accuracy and effectiveness. The model also has a post‐processing to estimate lesion area for fast inference, making it suitable for extensive screening. Redesigned UNet with the Multi‐Scale Pyramid Attention Network improves skin cancer lesion segmentation. The model's ability to collect fine‐grained information and handle occlusions allows for more accurate skin cancer diagnosis and treatment. The MSPAN design can improve computer‐aided diagnosis systems and help dermatologists make precise clinical decisions.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the interventions for retention of doctors and dentists in remote areas using the discrete choice experiment (DCE) approach.Materials and Methods: A DCE was conducted to investigate preferences of doctors and dentists for retention in remote areas. This research was conducted in 78 primary healthcare settings across 15 provinces in Indonesia. The conditional logit model was used to explore stated preferences for each attribute.Results: The total number of respondents was 158, including 113 doctors and 45 dentists. In general, doctors placed the highest preference on getting priority for government scholarships to facilitate retention in remote areas (OR=5.65, p< 0.001). Specifically, dentists preferred security guarantees from local government (OR = 4.87, p< 0.001). Both groups valued having an official residence (OR=3.6, p< 0.001) as a factor for retention in remote areas.Conclusion: Scholarship, security guarantees, housing facilities, and medical facilities were the most considered factors for retaining doctors and dentists in a remote area. This study confirms the importance of a combination of interventions in maintaining doctors and dentists in remote areas. Abstract Observational studies in Parkinson’s disease (PD) deeply characterize relatively small numbers of participants. The Molecular Integration in Neurological Diagnosis Initiative seeks to characterize molecular and clinical features of every PD patient at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). The objectives of this study are to determine the feasibility of genetic characterization in PD and assess clinical features by sex and GBA1/LRRK2 status on a clinic-wide scale. All PD patients with clinical visits at the UPenn PD Center between 9/2018 and 12/2022 were eligible. Blood or saliva were collected, and a clinical questionnaire administered. Genotyping at 14 GBA1 and 8 LRRK2 variants was performed. PD symptoms were compared by sex and gene groups. 2063 patients were approached and 1,689 (82%) were enrolled, with 374 (18%) declining to participate. 608 (36%) females were enrolled, 159 (9%) carried a GBA1 variant, and 44 (3%) carried a LRRK2 variant. Digital intervention has been shown to be helpful in improving perinatal mental health. However, the design characteristics of such interventions have not been systematically reviewed. Considering that a lack of support—especially from a partner—is one of the major contributing factors to perinatal depression and anxiety, it is crucial to determine whether digital interventions have included partner participation. In this review, we systematically examined the design characteristics of digital interventions related to perinatal depression and anxiety and aimed to determine whether partner participation was incorporated as part of the interventions. Based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, five databases (PubMed, EBSCO, Cochrane, ProQuest, and Scopus) were searched. Narrative results of design characteristics were developed to provide a framework for the design and evaluation of the studies. A total of 12 intervention studies from China, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Norway, and the United Kingdom were included. Across all studies, internet cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness therapy were overwhelmingly utilized as the major intervention approaches. While all studies reported reduced depressive symptoms after the intervention, only four studies reported subsequent decreased levels of both depressive and anxiety symptoms. Only one study included partner support in the intervention. Cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness therapy, two of the most common intervention approaches, were found to be effective in alleviating perinatal depression and anxiety. Partner participation should be prioritized in designing digital interventions to ensure comprehensive and easily accessible social support for persons in need.

Handgrip strength is an indicator of general muscle strength. Low handgrip strength is associated with various diseases that can increase morbidity and mortality. Fat free mass and basal metabolic rate are indicators of health and physical fitness. Low physical activity and degenerative changes in muscle strength in female medical students may be risk factors for cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and sarcopenia in old age. The aim of this study was to determine the association between fat free mass and basal metabolic rate with handgrip strength in female medical students. The type of research includes observational analytics with a cross-sectional design on 54 samples selected using purposive sampling techniques. Fat free mass and basal metabolic rate data were collected using a bioelectrical impedance analysis tool, handgrip strength using a handgrip dynamometry tool which was carried out directly. Statistical data analysis used the Independent sample t-test and Chi-square test. The results of the analysis using the Independent sample t-test found that there was no significant difference based on fat free mass between respondents with low handgrip strength and normal handgrip strength (p = 0.662) and there was a significant association between basal metabolic rate and handgrip strength (p = 0.001) with an odds ratio (OR) of 16.875. Female medical students need to maintain activity performance, train muscle strength, and adopt a healthy lifestyle so that handgrip strength, fat-free mass, and basal metabolic rate are maintained.

Abstract Transient monocular visual loss (TMVL), also known as transient monocular blindness or amaurosis fugax (“fleeting blindness”), is a temporary loss of vision often due to ischemia to the retina. While acute TMVL should be considered an emergency that further requires exhaustive investigation, there are some cases in which TMVL arises secondary to benign causes. Age has a major impact in the diagnosis of ischemia and although the differential diagnosis of TMVL can be broad, timely and appropriate history, examination, diagnostic testing, and treatment can be vision- or life-saving. We review the causes of TMVL and the impact of age on the differential diagnoses and management.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is frequently diagnosed among Canadian women. While targeted therapies are available for most BC patients; treatment resistance is common and novel therapeutic targets are of interest. Thyroid hormones (TH) bound to thyroid hormone receptors (THR) influence cell proliferation and differentiation; they are also involved in the growth and development of normal breast tissue. Evidence suggests that THRβ is a tumor suppressor in various solid tumors. Purpose: This narrative review discusses retrospective studies regarding the clinical relevance of THRβ as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in BC. Methods: We consulted with an information specialist to develop a search strategy to find all literature related to THRα expression as a potential prognostic and therapeutic biomarker in breast cancer. The primary search was developed for Medline and translated to Embase. The searches were conducted on the Ovid platform on 18 August 2023. Results: Across seven retrospective studies identified, several have shown an association between higher THRβ1 expression with a lower risk of BC recurrence and with longer overall survival. Conclusions: Some evidence suggests that THRβ expression is associated with a lower risk of BC recurrence and death. Validation of THRβ as an independent prognostic biomarker and possible predictive biomarker of response to endocrine therapy and/or chemotherapy is of interest. Given that THRβ is upstream of the AKT/PI3K pathway, its potential as a predictive biomarker of response to AKT inhibitors and/or PI3K inhibitors may also be of value. Finally, the potential re-purposing of THRβ agonists as anti-cancer agents warrants investigation.

Communication is an important aspect that involves interaction between teachers and students in the hope that the message will be well received and have an impact on understanding and changes in behavior. This research aims to analyze teacher-student communication in the educational process at MIN 2 Banjar. The method used is descriptive qualitative with interviews, observation and documentation. The result shows that communication in teaching and learning activities at MIN 2 Banjar very effective with approach of epistemological, axiological, and ontologically. The second, the Laswell Model is widely used in communication process that which can flexibly change from group communication to interpersonal communication; The third, educational communication is also effective because of the teacher play varied roles like speaker, moderator, mentor, and manager.

Abstract Background Prior research has reaffirmed lifestyle risk behaviors to cluster among adolescents. However, the lifestyle cluster effect on suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) was unclear among adolescents in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). No comparison of such associations was conducted across nations. Methods Data from 45 LMICs were obtained from the Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS) between 2009 and 2019. Lifestyle behavior factors were collected through a structured questionnaire. Suicidal ideation, plan, and attempt were ascertained by three single-item questions. Lifestyle risk scores were calculated via a sufficient dimension reduction technique, and lifestyle risk clusters were constructed using a latent class analysis. Generalized linear mixed models with odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to estimate the lifestyle-STB associations. Results A total of 229,041 adolescents were included in the final analysis. The weighted prevalence of suicidal ideation, plan, and attempt was 7.37%, 5.81%, and 4.59%, respectively. Compared with the favorable lifestyle group, the unfavorable group had 1.48-, 1.53-, and 3.11-fold greater odds of suicidal ideation (OR = 1.48, 95%CI: 1.30–1.69), plan (OR = 1.53, 95%CI 1.34–1.75), and attempt (OR = 3.11, 95%CI 2.64–3.65). Four clusters of lifestyle risk behaviors were identified, namely healthy lifestyles (H–L), insufficient intake of vegetables and fruit (V-F), frequent consumption of soft drinks and fast food (D-F), and tobacco smoking and alcohol drinking (S-A) clusters. Compared with H–L cluster, V-F cluster was associated with 43% and 42% higher odds of suicidal ideation and plan, followed by S-A cluster (26% for ideation and 20% for plan), but not significant in D-F cluster (P > 0.05). D-F cluster was associated with 2.85-fold increased odds of suicidal attempt, followed by V-F cluster (2.43-fold) and S-A cluster (1.18-fold). Conclusions Clustering of lifestyle risk behaviors is informative for risk stratification of STBs in resource-poor settings. Lifestyle-oriented suicide prevention efforts should be initiated among school-attending adolescents in LMICs.

Abstract The present lifestyle, dietary patterns, psychological pressure, environmental factors, and the widespread exploitation of processed substances in food production and farming have collectively contributed to a substantial expediting in the development of various health problems. Globally, researchers have been seeking natural pharmaceutical substances with the potential to be employed in treating lifestyle‐related diseases or delaying their onset. Fenugreek seeds have gained significant attention in various fields, including health, nutrition, and cutting‐edge nanotechnology applications, due to their versatile qualities. The current investigation offers a comprehensive discussion of the nutritional composition and therapeutic potential of fenugreek seeds, with an emphasis on their plentiful reservoir of bioactive compounds. This seed demonstrates promising medicinal potential in addressing a wide range of health issues. Significantly, these findings indicate noteworthy properties, such as antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti‐obesity, hypocholesterolemic, anticancer, and cardioprotective effects. Moreover, the components of fenugreek seeds are important in the development of a multitude of foods, which is the reason why they are used extensively in the area of food research. In addition to their nutritional value, their exploration of nanotechnology reveals a promising domain, utilizing the distinctive characteristics of seeds for many purposes, such as nanoparticle synthesis and oil for edible films and nanoemulsions. This review article focuses on a comprehensive analysis of fenugreek seeds, examining their wide‐ranging applications in the fields of health, nutrition, food, and nanotechnology.

Abstract Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol in various plants, has gained significant attention for its potential health‐promoting properties. It has been demonstrated, after reviewing various clinical and in vitro studies, that resveratrol possesses potent antioxidant potential. Resveratrol demonstrates cellular component protection by directly neutralizing free radicals (FRs) and enhancing the expression of natural antioxidant enzymes, thereby mitigating oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. Clinical trials have shown promising results, indicating that resveratrol supplementation can enhance antioxidant defenses and reduce oxidative damage markers in various populations. In addition to its antioxidant effects, resveratrol exhibits potent anti‐inflammatory properties. It can modulate key inflammatory pathways, such as nuclear factor‐kappa B (NF‐κB) and mitogen‐activated protein kinases (MAPKs), thereby suppressing the production of pro‐inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Furthermore, resveratrol's multimodal effects extend beyond its antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties. It has been discovered to exert regulatory effects on various cellular processes, including apoptosis, cell cycle progression, angiogenesis, and immunological responses. The primary aim of this review paper is to provide a thorough overview of the current knowledge on resveratrol, including its chemical composition, bioaccessibility, clinical effectiveness, and utilization in nanotechnology to enhance its bioavailability. From future perspectives, revising the administration methods for certain contexts and understanding the underlying systems responsible for resveratrol's effects will require further inquiry. For the highest potential health results, advanced trial‐based research is necessary for combinational nano‐delivery of resveratrol.

Objective: Staging workup and detection of distant metastases is important in newly diagnosed breast cancer in order to make treatment decisions and establish the prognosis. There is wide variation in current recommendations for staging investigations in breast cancer. Routine staging is performed for all patients in Bahrain because of lack of consistent guidelines. Optimization of the criteria for staging is important for identification of metastases, while minimizing harm and costs. The aim of this study was to evaluate factors associated with distant metastases in newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer, in order to establish local guidelines for proper selection of patients for systemic staging. Materials and Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer at Salmaniya Medical Complex in Bahrain who underwent staging investigations between January 2016 and December 2022 were identified from a pathology database. Patients with previous history of cancer, synchronous tumors, bilateral breast cancer and ductal carcinoma in situ were excluded. Clinical, radiological and pathological data were retrospectively analyzed. Results: A total of 593 patients underwent staging computed tomography and bone scans or a PET scan. Distant metastases were identified in 20.7% of cases. M1 disease was significantly associated with multifocality/multicentricity, high grade tumors, hormone receptor-negative cancers, high Ki67 index, advanced tumor stage, node-positive disease, triple-negative breast cancer, use of PET scans and those who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Age was not associated with identification of distant metastases. Conclusion: The prevalence of distant metastases in this population of newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer was higher than previously reported. Routine staging of all patients at presentation was not indicated, especially for asymptomatic patients with early breast cancer. This study identified certain groups of patients with a higher risk of distant metastasis, in whom metastatic workup should be performed. These findings may allow for the development of a local guideline that addresses the question of which breast cancer patients need staging investigations for distant metastases.
