Este artigo busca compreender as motivações e experiências vivenciadas por homens e mulheres acima de 50 anos que participam de corridas do tipo maratonas. Adota-se para este objetivo a perspectiva de consumo de uma atividade que pode ser utilizada para conceber um produto de lazer e turismo. A pesquisa segue a linha epistemológica interpretativa e adota um método de pesquisa qualitativo. O principal instrumento de coleta de dados é a entrevista em profundidade. Os resultados salientam dois pontos: a construção de um imaginário do corredor que abre oportunidades para a concepção de serviços com valores agregados mais sólidos e a customização dos serviços de lazer e turismo. Por fim, são apresentadas algumas implicações gerenciais para a promoção do turismo via consumo de maratona. This paper analyzes the motivations and experiences of men and women over the age of 50 who participate in races like marathons. The aim is to describe these experiences in a way that can be used for designing product for leisure and tourism. The research follows the interpretive paradigm and adopts a qualitative method. The main instrument for data collection is the in-depth interview. The results underline two facts: the construction of an imagery of a runner that opens up opportunity for designing more robust services with aggregate values and a customization of leisure and tourism services. Finally, the authors present some managerial implications for the promotion of tourism consumption via marathons. En este artículo se busca entender las motivaciones y experiencias de hombres y mujeres mayores de 50 años que participan en carreras tipo maratones. Se adopta para este fin la perspectiva de consumo de una actividad, que se puede utilizar para el diseño de un producto de ocio y turismo. La investigación sigue una línea epistemológica interpretativa y adopta un método de investigación cualitativa. El principal instrumento para la recogida de datos es la entrevista en profundidad. Los resultados ponen en relieve dos puntos: la construcción de un imaginário del corredor, que abre oportunidades para el diseño de servicios con valores añadidos más robustos y la personalización de los servicios de ocio y turismo. Por último, presentamos algunas de las implicaciones de gestión para la promoción del turismo vía el “consumo” del maratón.

Artificial metalloenzymes can be defined as the fusion of chemo- and enzymatic catalysts by insertion of non-specific achiral catalytic moieties into the chiral environment of a protein cavity, thereby broadening the scope of both fields. Presently, the field of artificial metalloenzymes is at an exciting stage, with interesting features already demonstrated and a growing reaction repertoire, but has not yet reached maturity. To exploit the full potential of catalytic reactions using hybrid catalysts is far from trivial and as the ability to screen for novel properties remains limited. Albeit computational simulations are advanced, directed/designed evolution of such selective catalysts remains challenging, hence their development relies to a great extent on trial-and-error. Hitherto, screening and evaluation of ligands for activity or of proteins for selectivity still remains an elaborate process, as all library members have to be evaluated individually. High-throughput analysis to simultaneously evaluate large hybrid catalyst libraries within a short time-frame has therefore become increasingly important. The key focuses of this research were the development of (i) novel purification strategies to simplify the challenge of producing functional protein (streptavidin), in sufficient quantity and appropriate purity for high-throughput screening of organometallic moieties; (ii) a reiterative approach to protein expression: re-design of streptavidin construct, moving to a more complex expression system, Pichia pastoris, to increase the production of streptavidin and simplify the purification process; and (iii) a novel biomolecular scaffold, human carbonic anhydrase II, for the creation of a new artificial metalloenzyme. This thesis addresses the issues and feasibility of purification and expression processes and, highlights bottlenecks that arose using these technologies, key learning's and where to go from now.

Reproductive phenology, pollination and reproductive system of Sophora tomentosa L. (Leguminosae- Papilionoideae) on coastal sand dunes of Joaquina beach, Florianópolis, southern Brazil. The shrub Sophoratomentosa flowers from the month of October to June. The fructification begins soon after the start of the flowering period and continues up to the next flowering. The anthesis takes place during the day, and does nothave a defined schedule for the opening of the flower. Each inflorescence opens from 2 to 5 new flowers a day, lasting 4 or 5 days. Sophora tomentosa presents a rate of open pollination of 78%, cross pollination of 70%, spontaneous self-pollination of 48%, and agamospermy of 18%. Among the species of bees that visit S. tomentosa flowers, Pseudocentron sp. (Megachilidae) presents the characteristics of an efficient pollinator. The bees Xylocopa (Megaxylocopa) brasilionorum and Dialictus (Chloralictus) sp. can also make the pollination. Epicharis sp. (Antophoridae) and Augochloropsis sp. (Halictidae) are visitors, which are only rarely observed in S. tomentosa. Other floral visitors are the butterfly Panoquina panoquinoides eugeon (Hesperiidae), the beetles Lystronychus sp. (Alleculidae) and Horistonotus sp. (Elateridae), and the ant Camponotus rufipes (Formicidae). Lystronychus sp. and Camponotus rufipes can promote self-pollination. Sophora tomentosa floresce de outubro até o início de junho. A frutificação começa logo após o início do período de floração e se estende até o início da floração seguinte. A antese da flor é diurna, não havendo um horário definido para a sua abertura. Em cada inflorescência abrem de duas a cinco flores por dia, sendo que cada uma dura de quatro a cinco dias. Sophora tomentosa apresenta uma taxa de polinização aberta de 78%, polinização cruzada de 70%, autopolinização espontânea de 48% e agamospermia de 18%. Das espécies de abelhas que visitam as flores de S. tomentosa, Pseudocentron sp. (Megachilidae) apresenta características de um polinizador eficiente. As abelhas Xylocopa (Megaxylocopa) brasilionorum e Dialictus (Chloralictus) sp. também podem efetuar a polinização. Epicharis sp. (Antophoridae) e Augochloropsis sp. (Halictidae) foram visitantes raramente observados em S. tomentosa. Outros visitantes florais foram a borboleta Panoquina panoquinoides eugeon (Hesperiidae), os besouros Lystronychus sp. (Alleculidae) e Horistonotus sp. (Elateridae) e a formiga Camponotus rufipes (Formicidae). Lystronychus sp. e Camponotus rufipes podem efetuarautopolinização.

Fructification and damage to fruits and seeds of Sophora tomentosa L. on a sandbank of Joaquina beach, Florianópolis, SC. This work was accom- plished at the sandbank of Joaquina Beach on Santa Catarina Island,Florianópolis, SC. The rate of formation of Sophora tomentosa fruits from buttons was 25.4%. Out of the fruits actually formed, 28.9% failed to reach maturity and were eliminated by the plant. The fruits formed during the spring took 7.9 weeks to mature, and those formed during the autumn took about 11.1 weeks. The average length of the fruits collected in 2001 was 7.8cm, and in 2002 it was 9.2cm. In 2001 and 2002, the fruits presented a rate of predation by insects of 30% and 59%, respectively. The average quantity of seeds for fruit was 4.8 in 2001, and 6.2 in 2002. In 2001, 60.2% of the seeds presented some kind of damage, and in 2002, 42.5% of them did. The most common types of damage among the seeds were due to fungus (92.3%) and predator (53%) attack. Among the fruits of S. tomen- tosa, two beetles, Cryptophilus sp. (Cryptophagidae) and Acylomus sp. (Phalacridae), were found. A Cadra sp. (Pyralidae) moth emerged while the seeds were stored. A Myrmelachista sp. (Formicidae) ant and three species of Heterospilus (Braconidae) were also found. A área de estudo se localiza no litoral leste da Ilha de Santa Catarina, na restinga da praia da Joaquina, Florianópolis, SC. A taxa de formação de frutos de Sophora tomentosa a partir de botões foi de 25,4%.Dos frutos formados, 28,9% sofreram absição antes de amadurecer. Os frutos for mados durante a primavera levaram em média 7,9 semanas para amadurecer e os formados durante o outono levaram em média 11,1 semanas. O tamanho médio dos frutos coletados em 2001 foi 7,8cm, e em 2002 foi 9,2cm. Em 2001 e 2002, os frutos apresentaram uma taxa de predação por insetos de 30% e 59%, respectivamente. A quantidade média de sementes por fruto foi 4,8 em 2001, e 6,2 em 2002. Em 2001, 60,2% das sementes apresentaram algum tipo de dano, e em 2002, 42,5% delas. Os danos mais comuns entre as sementes foram o ataque por fungos (92,3%) e o ataque de predadores (53%). Nos frutos de S. tomentosa foram enco ntrados dois besouros: Cryptophilus sp. (Cryptophagidae) e Acylomus sp. (Phalacridae). Uma mariposa Cadra sp. (Pyralidae) eclodiu enquanto as sementes estavam armazenadas. Foram também encontradas uma formiga Myrmelachista sp. (Formicidae) e três espécies de Heterospilus (Braconidae).

O gênero Sophora é composto por ervas perenes, arbustos e árvores, com aproximadamente 45-50 espécies, largamente distribuídas, principalmente na Eurásia e América do Norte. Sophora tomentosa ocorre no litoral de todas as regiões tropicais do mundo. No Brasil, pode-se encontrála do Nordeste ao Sul. É considerada espécie típica de dunas móveis e semi-fixas. Possui inflorescências com flores amarelas e sementes com dispersão autocórica e hidrocórica. Este trabalho objetiva estudar a ecologia reprodutiva de S. tomentosa e foi realizado na restinga da Praia da Joaquina na Ilha de Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, SC. S. tomentosa possui uma floração longa, ocorrendo entre os meses de outubro e maio, com um pico em outubro e novembro e outro menor em março. A frutificação começa logo após o início do período de floração e se estende até o mês de agosto, com um pico nos meses de outubro, novembro e dezembro e outro menor em março e abril. A antese é diurna, não havendo um horário definido para a abertura da flor. Cada inflorescência abre de 2 a 5 flores novas por dia, durando de 4 a 5 dias. Das espécies de abelhas que visitam as flores de S. tomentosa, Pseudocentron sp. (Megachilidae) apresenta características de um polinizador eficiente. As abelhas Xylocopa (Megaxylocopa) brasilionorum
