Abstract

The significance of hydrogen bonding between the phosphorous atoms of primary arylphosphines and the corresponding arylphosphonium salts is discussed. Studies of the crystal and the solution state demonstrate that even in cases where -PH2 and -PH3(sub 3)(super +) functions are held in proximity, there is no evidence for hydrogen bonding between phosphorous atoms or for the proton exchange between the two functions.

Research has been conducted on dichlorogallane (HGaCl (sub)2) (sub)2. The preparation of this compound from gallium trichloride and triethylsilane and its crystal structure determined via single crystal X-ray diffraction are discussed.

Abstract

A demonstration that with tri(vinyl)phosphine (CH2=CH3)P, the most obvious potential synthon for the preparation of poly(vinyl)phosphonium cation, even simple quaternization, oxidation, or complexation reactions could lead to immediate polymerization of the substrate or its products is presented. Tetravinylphosphonium salts are very reactive toward nucleophiles and undergo a large variety of clean reactions, but the conditions have to be carefully chosen to avoid decomposition.

Die Arbeit zeigt auf, wie Chlorgallane GaHnCl3-n als Ausgangsmaterialien zur Darstellung neuer molekularer Galliumchalkogenide genutzt werden können. Hierzu wurde zunächst die Strukturchemie des Dichlorgallans, (HGaCl2)2 und seine Komplexchemie mit Phosphinen und Pyridinen eingehend untersucht. In zielgemäßer Erweiterung der Untersuchungen wurden dann die Pyridinkomplexe des Typs L(H)GaCl2 ebenso wie das durch Thermolyse von (HGaCl2)2 gebildete Ga[GaCl4] zur Darstellung von Galliumchalkogeniden eingesetzt. Neben verschiedenen trinuklearen, zyklischen Komplexen der Galliumchalkogenidhalogenide [LGaYX]3 (Y = S, Se; X = Cl, Br) konnten auch neue chalkogenreichere Produkte wie eine Verbindung [L6Ga4S5]Br2 mit Borax-analogem Dikation und schließlich erstmals ein Donor-Addukt des molekularen, tetranuklearen Galliumsulfids Ga4S6 mit Adamantanstruktur isoliert und charakterisiert werden. Die Löslichkeit dieser Verbindung schafft ideale Voraussetzungen für den Aufbau größerer Strukturen. In this thesis it is demonstrated that chlorogallanes GaHnCl3-n are versatile starting materials for the preparation of new molecular gallium chalcogenides. In order to establish a firm preparative basis, the structural and coordination chemistry of dichlorogallane, (HGaCl2)2 and its complexes with phosphines and pyridines were studied in great detail. In an extension of these investigations the pyridine complexes of the type L(H)GaCl2, as well as of Ga[GaCl4] - formed by thermolysis of (HGaCl2)2 -, were finally employed in the synthesis of the target molecular gallium chalcogenides. Besides a series of trinuclear, cyclic complexes of the ternary gallium chalcogenide halides [LGaYX]3 (Y= S, Se; X = Cl, Br) chalcogen-rich products like [L6Ga4S5]Br2 with dications representing an analogue of borax, and, for the first time, a donor adduct of the molecular, tetranuclear gallium sulfide Ga4S6 with an adamantane type structure were isolated and characterized. The solubility of these compounds allows for a new approach to the construction of larger assemblies.

The title compound, C30H16N4O4, reveals \overline1 crystallographic and mol­ecular symmetry and accordingly the asymmetric unit comprises one half-mol­ecule. The dihedral angle between the planes of the two geminal benzoxazole rings is 74.39 (5)°. The packing features weak C-H...N and [pi]-[pi] inter­actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.652 (1) Å].
