In Alzheimer's-type dementia, significant nerve cell degeneration is seen in the medial temporal lobe, including the hippocampal region, and in the temporoparietal association area. As symptoms progress, impairments in various behaviours begin to occur in daily life. In particular, higher brain dysfunction, including parietal association area dysfunction, are major impediments to providing care or rehabilitation. Herein, we explain behavioural disorders stemming from higher brain dysfunction and discuss the methodology in providing specific care and appropriate rehabilitation. To provide appropriate rehabilitation, it is important to properly assess the causes of behavioural disorder by organizing the characteristics of symptoms, the person and the environment.

The purpose of this study was to verify the reliability and validity of a screening test for developmental disorders in students at a health and welfare university. A total of 632 students completed a questionnaire about difficulties. We classified 38 questions for 5 factors with factor analysis. The analysed factors were as follows: attention-deficit disorder factor, learning disorder factor, pervasive developmental disorder factor, depression and anxiety factor and control difficulty factor.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between depression and resilience. Forty-four students completed a questionnaire following clinical practice. The results indicated that female students were more depressed than male students. We scaled resilience from three perspectives: self efficiency, social support, and sociality. We also assessed attitudes toward 8 situations as either positive or negative. We found that depression was significantly correlated with self efficiency and sociality. We also found that a positive attitude toward problem solving reduced depression.

Within our faculty, we are trying to establish a combined educational system catering to co-medical staff students in four departments; Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language and Hearing Therapy, Orthoptics, and Clinical Engineering Technology. The aim of this education system was to instill professionalism and effective communication abilities in the students. We used a questionnaire to investigate the knowledge and attitudes needed for medical on-the-job-training. From this questionnaire, several keywords such as professional, specialist, job, and nursing were identified as being those that most thought were needed in medical on-the-job-training. Based on this data, we introduced two types of combined practical training into the curriculum; "communication skills improvement training" and "medical team conference using an imaginary case report". In these training courses, participants sought to communicate or explain aspects of their profession to participants from other departments. Participants combined each other's information related to diseases or disorders of imaginary cases, and from this, proposed appropriate ideas for interventional methods. We believe that the two practical courses were effective in achieving our goal of improving the communication ability and professionalism among co-medical specialist candidate students.

The validity of the isolation test in manual muscle testing was investigated. The flexion force of the knee joint was measured for the following leg positions: lateral rotation, mid position and medial rotation. The results showed that muscle strength was the highest for lateral rotation, followed by mid position, and medial rotation, in this order (11.08, 10.69 and 9.68kg, respectively). If the flexion force of the knee joint in mid position is the sum of medial and lateral rotators, then flexion force should be highest in mid position, but this did not hold true. Also, if the activities of medial rotators are suppressed in lateral rotation, then flexion force should be decreased by the degree of suppression, but this did not hold true. The same applies to medial rotation. Hence, the isolation test in manual muscle testing lacks validity.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the self-rating depression scale and the stress coping. We did questionnaire to 31 students before and after clinical practice. The result indicated that the female students felt the more depression than the male students. We categorized the stress coping strategies into 2 types, 8 subtypes. Especially Planful Problem Solving-type strategy was used by the students much more during clinical practice than before. We also found out that the 4 subtypes, Accepting Responsibility-type, Self Controlling-type, Distancing-type and Positive Reappraisal-type, affect depression.

The purpose of this study is to investigate students' stress coping in the term of clinical practice. We ded questionnaire to 30 students after clinical practice. The result shows forty-six stress situations were observed. Most of the students felt the stress that the supervisor advied about general manners or behaviors. Such as communication with patients and clinical staffs, students personality, speaking volume. We categorized the stress coping strategies into two types. The result indicated that Emotion-focused coping strategies were taken more than twice as much as Problem-focused coping.

Our expectation of Rehabilitational accuracy for the recovery of patient's with cerebral accident (CVA) has been valued highly. It is very important and proper to set up appropriate therapeutic goals and prognosis at the beginning of Rehabilitation program. At present mostly we utilizes Functional Independent Measure (FIM) for the patient's independent motor accuracy. How ever, many patient achieve Activity of Daily Living (ADL) motor functions by compensational movements and also changing their handiness. But how paralyzed upper extremity's movements effects patient's ADL is not clearly understood. This study is to compared the Fugel-Meyer's method at the beginning of patient's admission into three groups and utilization of FIM for the patient's admission and leaving the hospital. Subjects : The patients who has been hospitalized and discharged from Nobeoka Rehabilitation Hospital between 14, May. 2002. ~15, Oct. 2003 (17 months of stay ), 13 Male patients, 11 female patients. Average patient's hospitalization was 4.35 ± 2.58. Patient's average of illness ~2.27 ± 1.79 months. Patient's age : male ~ 66.2 ± 11.6 years. Female : 61.6 ± 14.8 years. Patient's diagnosis : CVA ~ 11 patients, Brain infarction ~ 9 patients, Subarachnoid hemorage ~ 3 patients, Chronic Epidural hematoma ~ 1 patient. Right Hemiparalisis~ 14 (M ~9, F ~ 5), Left Hemiparalysis ~ 10 (M ~ 3, F ~ 7). Result : The Fugel - Meyer's three groups was independent at the beginning and the time of patient's discharge, and we found the difference.

CVA(cerebrovascular accident) patient has extended Higher Cortical dysfunction over a long period of time. And ADL(activity of daily living) is hindered by USN(unilateral spatial neglect) and decline of learning ability .Through the somple case we then repeated excerses for these patients. And we came up with the good result.The patient's information volume will be changed by their visual field. There fore they'll have difficulty to in information, to chose it and to process it. In addition, the information which patient get may become their habit in the process of repeated.
