Aim of Study: To determine the factor of diabetes mellitus is a high risk in surgery Study Design: Prospective observational study. Place & Duration: Two years study from July 2010 to June 2012 was conducted at People's university of Medical and Health Sciences Nawabshah. Patients & Method: The study comprises 100 patients. All were admitted from OPD, COD. All patients were evaluated fully after history & clinical examinations and specific investigations . Blood sugar Fasting and Random, HBA1c, Urine sugar, Ketone, Albumin, Blood urea, Serum Electrolyte, Serum creatinine Blood gas analysis, ECG and Lipid profiles Results: In this study 100 patients of Diabetes mellitus were admitted. Out of 100 pts, 34 (34%) were male and 66 (66%) were female. The maximum number of patients were in age group 16 to70 years. Facing problem in those patients having blood sugar level range between 200mg to 490 mg. 76 patients were controlled with help of oral anti diabetic drugs and 24 patients were controlled with help of injection insulin therapy .post operatively 51 patients developed fever, 42 patients were developed surgical site infection and 7 patients were developed wound dehiscence. Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus are common problem all over the world if patients developed diabetes mellitus they were high risk in surgery prone to develop systemic as well as local complications in which morbidity and mortality rate will increase.
