Abstract

The Topmetal-M is a large area pixel sensor (18 mm * 23 mm) prototype fabricated in a new 130 nm high-resistivity CMOS process in 2019. It contains 400 rows * 512 columns square pixels with the pitch of 40 {\mu}m. In Topmetal-M, a novel charge collection method combing the Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS) and the Topmetal sensor has been proposed for the first time. Both the ionized charge deposited by the particle in the sensor and along the track over the sensor can be collected. The in-pixel circuit mainly consists of a low-noise charge sensitive amplifier to establish the signal for the energy reconstruction, and a discriminator with a Time-to-Amplitude Converter (TAC) for the Time of Arrival (TOA) measurement. With this mechanism, the trajectory, particle hit position, energy and arrival time of the particle can be measured. The analog signal from each pixel is accessible through time-shared multiplexing over the entire pixel array. This paper will discuss the design and preliminary test results of the Topmetal-M sensor.

Abstract

The Forbush Decrease (FD) represents the rapid decrease of the intensities of charged particles accompanied with the coronal mass ejections (CMEs) or high-speed streams from coronal holes. It has been mainly explored with ground-based neutron monitors network which indirectly measure the integrated intensities of all species of cosmic rays by counting secondary neutrons produced from interaction between atmosphere atoms and cosmic rays. The space-based experiments can resolve the species of particles but the energy ranges are limited by the relative small acceptances except for the most abundant particles like protons and helium. Therefore, the FD of cosmic ray electrons and positrons have just been investigated by the PAMELA experiment in the low energy range ($<5$ GeV) with limited statistics. In this paper, we study the FD event occurred in September, 2017, with the electron and positron data recorded by the Dark Matter Particle Explorer. The evolution of the FDs from 2 GeV to 20 GeV with a time resolution of 6 hours are given. We observe two solar energetic particle events in the time profile of the intensity of cosmic rays, the earlier and weak one has not been shown in the neutron monitor data. Furthermore, both the amplitude and recovery time of fluxes of electrons and positrons show clear energy-dependence, which is important in probing the disturbances of the interplanetary environment by the coronal mass ejections., Comment: This article is dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of People's Republic of China

Abstract

he DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is a general purposed satellite-borne high energy $\gamma-$ray and cosmic ray detector, and among the scientific objectives of DAMPE are the searches for the origin of cosmic rays and an understanding of Dark Matter particles. As one of the four detectors in DAMPE, the Plastic Scintillator Detector (PSD) plays an important role in the particle charge measurement and the photons/electrons separation. The PSD has 82 modules, each consists of a long organic plastic scintillator bar and two PMTs at both ends for readout, in two layers and covers an overall active area larger than 82 cm $\times$ 82 cm. It can identify the charge states for relativistic ions from H to Fe, and the detector efficiency for Z=1 particles can reach 0.9999. The PSD has been successfully launched with DAMPE on Dec. 17, 2015. In this paper, the design, the assembly, the qualification tests of the PSD and some of the performance measured on the ground have been described in detail.

13. Identification of a hub gene VCL for atherosclerotic plaques and discovery of potential therapeutic targets by molecular docking.

Abstract

Background: Atherosclerosis (AS) is a pathology factor for cardiovascular diseases and instability of atherosclerotic plaques contributes to acute coronary events. This study identified a hub gene VCL for atherosclerotic plaques and discovered its potential therapeutic targets for atherosclerotic plaques. Methods: Differential expressed genes (DEGs) were screened between unstable and stable plaques from GSE120521 dataset and then used for construction of a protein-protein interactions (PPI) network. Through topological analysis, hub genes were identified within this PPI network, followed by construction of a diagnostic model. GSE41571 dataset was utilized to validate the diagnostic model. A key hub gene was identified and its association with immune characteristics and pathways were further investigated. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation were employed to discover potential therapeutic targets. Results: According to the PPI network, 3 tightly connected protein clusters were found. Topological analysis identified the top 5 hub genes, Vinculin (VCL), Dystrophin (DMD), Actin alpha 2 (ACTA2), Filamin A (FLNA), and transgelin (TAGLN). Among these hub genes, VCL had the highest diagnostic value. VCL was selected for further analysis and we found that VCL was negatively correlated with immune score and AS-related inflammatory pathways. Next, we identified 408 genes that were highly correlated with VCL and determined potential drug candidates. The results from molecular docking and MD simulation showed compound DB07117 combined with VCL protein stably, the binding energy is -7.7 kcal/mol, indicating that compound DB07117 was a potential inhibitor of VCL protein. Conclusion: This study identified VCL as a key gene for atherosclerotic plaques and provides a potential therapeutic target of VCL for the treatment of atherosclerotic plaques. Abstract

In this article, a noninterceptive and high-accuracy beam position monitor, named Hi’Beam-A, has been designed for the accelerator of a heavy-ion therapy facility. The Hi’Beam-A consists of the detector subsystem and the readout subsystem. In the detector subsystem, the microchannel plate multiplies the ionized charge in the high vacuum chamber, and the novel Topmetal silicon pixel sensor directly collects the charge. The readout subsystem processes the data and calculates the beam position. Beam test results show that the Hi’Beam-A reaches an accuracy of $5~\mu \text{m}$ . This article will present the design, characterization, and beam test of Hi’Beam-A.

18. A Network Medical Framework based on Inflammatory Genes to Identify Drug Candidates for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

Abstract

Background: Clinically, abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) can be treated with surgical intervention, but there is currently no effective drug for the disease. Methods: This study analyzed the biomedical data of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), RNA-seq and the network medical data of drug-target interaction as well as protein-protein interaction to identify key targets and potential drug compounds of AAA. Results: Firstly, we identified 10 types of cells from AAA and nonaneurysmal control samples and screened monocyte, mast cell, smooth muscle cell and 327 genes showing significant differences between non-dilated PVATs and dilated PVATs. To further explore the association of three types of cells in AAA, we screened the common DEGs associated with the three types of cells and then identified 10 potential therapeutic targets for AAA. SLC2A3 and IER3 were the key targets that were the most closely related to immune score and significantly related to inflammatory pathways. We then designed a network-based proximity measure to identify potential drugs targeting SLC2A3. Finally, with computer simulation, we found that the compound with the highest affinity to SLC2A3 protein was DB08213, which was embedded into the SLC2A3 protein cavity and formed close contact with various amino acid residues, and was stable during the 100-ns MD simulation. Conclusion: This study provided a computational framework for drug design and development. It revealed key targets and potential therapeutic drug compounds for AAA, which might contribute to the drug development for AAA.

Abstract

The measurement of the energy spectrum of cosmic ray helium nuclei from 70 GeV to 80 TeV using 4.5 years of data recorded by the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is reported in this work. A hardening of the spectrum is observed at an energy of about 1.3 TeV, similar to previous observations. In addition, a spectral softening at about 34 TeV is revealed for the first time with large statistics and well controlled systematic uncertainties, with an overall significance of $4.3\sigma$. The DAMPE spectral measurements of both cosmic protons and helium nuclei suggest a particle charge dependent softening energy, although with current uncertainties a dependence on the number of nucleons cannot be ruled out., Comment: 11 pages, 13 figures, published in Phys. Abstract

The cross section for the process e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi is measured precisely at center-of-mass energies from 3.77 to 4.60 GeV using 9 fb(-1) of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two resonant structures are observed in a fit to the cross section. The first resonance has a mass of (222.0 +/- 3.1 +/- 1.4) MeV/ c(2) and a width of (44.1 +/- 4.3 +/- 2.0)MeV, while the second one has a mass of (4320.0 +/- 10.4 +/- 7.0)MeV/c(2) and a width of (101.4(- 19.7)(+25.3) +/- 10.2) MeV, where the first errors are statistical and second ones are systematic. The first resonance agrees with the Y(4260) resonance reported by previous experiments. The precision of its resonant parameters is improved significantly. The second resonance is observed in e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi for the first time. The statistical significance of this resonance is estimated to be larger than 7.6 sigma. The mass and width of the second resonance agree with the Y(4360) resonance reported by the BABAR and Belle experiments within errors. Finally, the Y(4008) resonance previously observed by the Belle experiment is not confirmed in the description of the BESIII data.

Abstract

DAMPE satellite has directly measured the cosmic ray proton spectrum from 40 GeV to 100 TeV and revealed a new feature at about 13.6 TeV., The precise measurement of the spectrum of protons, the most abundant component of the cosmic radiation, is necessary to understand the source and acceleration of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. This work reports the measurement of the cosmic ray proton fluxes with kinetic energies from 40 GeV to 100 TeV, with 2 1/2 years of data recorded by the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE). This is the first time that an experiment directly measures the cosmic ray protons up to ~100 TeV with high statistics. The measured spectrum confirms the spectral hardening at ~300 GeV found by previous experiments and reveals a softening at ~13.6 TeV, with the spectral index changing from ~2.60 to ~2.85. Our result suggests the existence of a new spectral feature of cosmic rays at energies lower than the so-called knee and sheds new light on the origin of Galactic cosmic rays.

Abstract

We present the first amplitude analysis of the decay D_{s}^{+}→π^{+}π^{0}η. We use an e^{+}e^{-} collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.19 fb^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV. We observe for the first time the W-annihilation dominant decays D_{s}^{+}→a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{0} and D_{s}^{+}→a_{0}(980)^{0}π^{+}. We measure the absolute branching fraction B(D_{s}^{+}→a_{0}(980)^{+(0)}π^{0^{(}+)},a_{0}(980)^{+(0)}→π^{+(0)}η)=(1.46±0.15_{stat}±0.23_{sys})%, which is larger than the branching fractions of other measured pure W-annihilation decays by at least one order of magnitude. In addition, we measure the branching fraction of D_{s}^{+}→π^{+}π^{0}η with significantly improved precision.

PubMed ID: 31050481, Based on a sample of (1310.6±7.0)×106J/? events collected with the BESIII detector, we present measurements of J/? and ?? absolute branching fractions using the process J/?????. By analyzing events where the radiative photon converts into an e+e-pair, the branching fraction for J/????? is measured to be (5.27±0.03±0.05)×10-3. The absolute branching fractions of the five dominant decay channels of the ?? are then measured for the first time and are determined to be B(?????+?-)=(29.90±0.03±0.55)%, B(?????+?-)=(41.24±0.08±1.24)%, B(?????0?0)=(21.36±0.10±0.92)%, B(?????)=(2.489±0.018±0.074)%, and B(?????)=(2.331±0.012±0.035)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. © 2019 authors. Abstract

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), a satellite-based cosmic ray and gamma-ray detector, was launched on December 17, 2015, and began its on-orbit operation on December 24, 2015. In this work we document the on-orbit calibration procedures used by DAMPE and report the calibration results of the Plastic Scintillator strip Detector (PSD), the Silicon-Tungsten tracKer-converter (STK), the BGO imaging calorimeter (BGO), and the Neutron Detector (NUD). The results are obtained using Galactic cosmic rays, bright known GeV gamma-ray sources, and charge injection into the front-end electronics of each sub-detector. The determination of the boundary of the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA), the measurement of the live time, and the alignments of the detectors are also introduced. The calibration results demonstrate the stability of the detectors in almost two years of the on-orbit operation.

Abstract

Heavy-Ion Cancer Therapy Device (HICTD) developed by the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is an advanced tumor radiotherapy device for nuclear medicine. The time of flight (TOF) positron emission tomography (PET) located on the beam line, called In-Beam TOF-PET, is a key detector in HICTD, which is employed for obtaining time, energy and position information of gamma ray to implement real-time image reconstruction during the treatment. A high performance readout electronics system has been designed for In-Beam TOF-PET. The Data Acquisition Unit (DAQU), a key device of it has been implemented. The signals from the In-Beam TOF-PET are acquired and processed by the DAQU, including 8 energy chains and 2 time chains. A field programmable gate array (FPGA) is adopted as a processor on board for implementing pulse area information extracting algorithm, FPGA-based TDC, and etc. The precision pulsar test indicates that the DAQU system has intrinsic influences on the energy resolution better than 5.5 ‰ (full width at the half-maximum, FWHM) and time resolution of 255 ps (FWHM). The 22Na source test indicates that the overall system of the in-beam TOF-PET has an energy resolution of 14% FWHM at 511 keV and coincidence timing resolution better than 1.12 ns. The good position identification ability is indicated by the flood map, all the 484 crystals in one of LYSO crystal block detectors can be clearly distinguished.

Abstract

A new wide-range fast readout system capable of adaptive identification is designed for wire scanners, which are used to measure beam profiles and emittance. This system is capable of handling varying current signals with Gaussian distributions and current pulses up to 1000 counts/s, as well as an input current range of 1 nA–1 mA. When tested, the resolution was found to exceed 3.68% for full scale, the nonlinearity was found to be less than 0.11%, and the measurement sensibility was found to be less than 5 pA. We believe that the system will play a crucial role in improving the measurement accuracy of beam diagnosis and the efficiency of accelerator operation, as well as decreasing the time required for beam tuning. This system was applied to the beam diagnosis of an injector II prototype for an accelerator-driven subcritical system and produced excellent measurement results. A description of the adaptive fast readout system for wire scanners is presented in this paper.

Abstract

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), one of the four scientific space science missions within the framework of the Strategic Pioneer Program on Space Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a general purpose high energy cosmic-ray and gamma-ray observatory, which was successfully launched on December 17th, 2015 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The DAMPE scientific objectives include the study of galactic cosmic rays up to $\sim 10$ TeV and hundreds of TeV for electrons/gammas and nuclei respectively, and the search for dark matter signatures in their spectra. In this paper we illustrate the layout of the DAMPE instrument, and discuss the results of beam tests and calibrations performed on ground. Abstract

The cross section for the process e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi is measured precisely at center-of-mass energies from 3.77 to 4.60 GeV using 9 fb(-1) of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two resonant structures are observed in a fit to the cross section. The first resonance has a mass of (222.0 +/- 3.1 +/- 1.4) MeV/ c(2) and a width of (44.1 +/- 4.3 +/- 2.0)MeV, while the second one has a mass of (4320.0 +/- 10.4 +/- 7.0)MeV/c(2) and a width of (101.4(- 19.7)(+25.3) +/- 10.2) MeV, where the first errors are statistical and second ones are systematic. The first resonance agrees with the Y(4260) resonance reported by previous experiments. The precision of its resonant parameters is improved significantly. The second resonance is observed in e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi for the first time. The statistical significance of this resonance is estimated to be larger than 7.6 sigma. The mass and width of the second resonance agree with the Y(4360) resonance reported by the BABAR and Belle experiments within errors. Finally, the Y(4008) resonance previously observed by the Belle experiment is not confirmed in the description of the BESIII data.

Abstract

he DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is a general purposed satellite-borne high energy $\gamma-$ray and cosmic ray detector, and among the scientific objectives of DAMPE are the searches for the origin of cosmic rays and an understanding of Dark Matter particles. As one of the four detectors in DAMPE, the Plastic Scintillator Detector (PSD) plays an important role in the particle charge measurement and the photons/electrons separation. The PSD has 82 modules, each consists of a long organic plastic scintillator bar and two PMTs at both ends for readout, in two layers and covers an overall active area larger than 82 cm $\times$ 82 cm. It can identify the charge states for relativistic ions from H to Fe, and the detector efficiency for Z=1 particles can reach 0.9999. The PSD has been successfully launched with DAMPE on Dec. 17, 2015. In this paper, the design, the assembly, the qualification tests of the PSD and some of the performance measured on the ground have been described in detail.

Abstract

High energy cosmic ray electrons plus positrons (CREs), which lose energy quickly during their propagation, provide an ideal probe of Galactic high-energy processes and may enable the observation of phenomena such as dark-matter particle annihilation or decay. The CRE spectrum has been directly measured up to $\sim 2$ TeV in previous balloon- or space-borne experiments, and indirectly up to $\sim 5$ TeV by ground-based Cherenkov $\gamma$-ray telescope arrays. Evidence for a spectral break in the TeV energy range has been provided by indirect measurements of H.E.S.S., although the results were qualified by sizeable systematic uncertainties. Here we report a direct measurement of CREs in the energy range $25~{\rm GeV}-4.6~{\rm TeV}$ by the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) with unprecedentedly high energy resolution and low background. The majority of the spectrum can be properly fitted by a smoothly broken power-law model rather than a single power-law model. The direct detection of a spectral break at $E \sim0.9$ TeV confirms the evidence found by H.E.S.S., clarifies the behavior of the CRE spectrum at energies above 1 TeV and sheds light on the physical origin of the sub-TeV CREs., Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures, Nature in press, doi:10.1038/nature24475

Abstract

Objective To assess referral cases for root canal therapy to provide clinical evidence with establishment of referral system. Methods A questionnaire was designed to collect 312 cases (355 teeth). referred to Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University for root canal therapy from April to June in 2011. The questionnaire consisted of questions such as age, gender, occupation, general disease and medical histories of patients, sources. Difficulty of treatment before therapy and reasons for referral were evaluated. Results In 355 referral teeth, the most were mandibular fIrst molars (17%), the greatest percentage of reasons were calcified root canals (30%), the second was root canal retreatment (24%). 72% of teeth belong to the complicated difficulty (Class III), while 7% were listed as the uncomplicated difficulty (Class I). No significantly difference from different sources was found (P=0.9). Conclusion Establishment of referral system needs cooperation with every dentist. Difficulty of cases for root canal therapy before treatment should be first evaluated to treat or to refer. Referral cases for root canal therapy should be treated by endodontist of corresponding level according to the difficulty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
