The rabbit tooth extraction model was established, SVNs and simvastatin (SV) were loaded on gelatin sponge and inserted into the extraction socket. CBCT scans were performed at 0, 2, and 4 weeks postoperatively to evaluate bone formation and alveolar ridge absorption in the extraction sockets. And all the animals were sacrificed and the mandibles were harvested. And HE staining and Masson staining were used for histological evaluation of the bone formation in the extraction sockets.Results: Radiographic evaluation showed that compared with the blank control group, at 2 and 4 weeks after extraction, SVNs increased the new bone density in the extraction sockets by 75.7% and 96.5%, and reduced the absorption rate of alveolar ridge length at the extraction sites by 60.8% and 49.1%, respectively. Histological evaluation showed that SVNs significantly improved the maturation of new bone tissue in the extraction sockets.Conclusion: SVNs can significantly accelerate healing and effectively reduce the absorption of alveolar ridge at the extraction sites in the early stage of tooth extraction socket healing.Keywords: alveolar ridge preservation, simvastatin-loaded nanomicelles, tooth extraction sites, bone formation

It is a major pathogenic factor for chronic gastritis and gastric cancer. Besides, the resistance to antibiotics such as clarithromycin could reduce the eradication rate. Currently, there is an urgent need for a swift, easy to perform, and highly sensitive detection method for H. pylori and clarithromycin resistance.Methods: We used FAM/Digoxin labeled primers to amplify specific H. pylori 23S rRNA fragments by Recombinase Aided Amplification (RAA), and resistance mutations were distinguished using CRISPR/Cas13a system combined with lateral flow strip. Twenty-eight saliva samples were analyzed using qPCR, gene sequencing and this method to evaluate the detection efficiency.Results: We developed a simultaneous detection method for H. pylori and clarithromycin resistance mutations named sensitive H. pylori easy-read dual detection (SHIELD). The results showed both A2142G and A2143G mutant DNAs causing clarithromycin resistance could be distinguished from the wild type with a concentration of 50 copies/μL, and no cross-reaction with other 5 common gastrointestinal bacteria was observed. For the detection of H. pylori in 28 saliva samples, the positive predictive value of this method was 100% (19/19) in comparison with qPCR. For detecting clarithromycin resistance, the positive predictive value of this method was 84.6% (11/13) compared with gene sequencing.Conclusion: SHIELD assay showed high sensitivity and specificity in detecting H. pylori and clarithromycin resistance mutations. The reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the CAF-R (CAF-R-CN) were tested among 448 patients with COPD (mean age =71.42± 9.33 years, 17.2% female) from four medical institutions in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, using convenience sampling, from April 2022 to June 2023.Results: The CAF-R-CN included six dimensions with a total of 25 items. The item-level content validity index was 0.860– 1.000; the scale-level content validity index was 0.920. The structural validity χ2/df was 2.326, the root mean square error of approximation was 0.077, the comparative fit index was 0.924, and the Tucker–Lewis index was 0.912. The six-dimensional internal consistency index Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.696– 0.910, and the test–retest reliability was 0.949. An optimal cut-off score of 50.5 was selected with a sensitivity of 0.786 and specificity of 0.870.Conclusion: The CAF-R-CN had satisfactory reliability and validity and can be used to identify and assess anxiety in COPD patients with a Chinese cultural background.Keywords: fear, scale, specificity, chronic respiratory disease, Chinese translation, assessment

Clinically, SAF typically manifests as a slow-growing, solitary, well-defined nodule or mass. Although these lesions are generally asymptomatic, some cases may present with associated pain, often linked to a history of trauma. SAF lesions commonly exhibit hemispherical, polypoid, or warty growths, with occasional occurrences of ulceration and bleeding.The majority of SAFs express CD34 and CD99, but in the two cases we report, there was diffuse expression of CD34 and focal positive expression of CD68. CD68 positivity suggests a propensity for tumor cells to metastasize to secondary sites. Notably, previously reported cases of single SAF did not display positive CD68 expression, indicating a potential association with other aggressive tumors. However, the current clinical and pathological manifestations do not clarify the diagnosis of additional malignant tumors. Consequently, regular postoperative monitoring of the patient from the aforementioned two cases is essential to detect the presence of other malignant tumors. Five years ago, bilateral temporal skin lesions gradually increased and were accompanied by severe itching. On top of them, there were several blackheads and pimples with the size of needle tips up to the size of rice grains. After compression, lipid substances could be excreted and there was a clear odor. The patient sought medical attention at a local hospital, but the diagnosis and medication were unknown, and the symptoms did not improve. In the past month, due to the aggravation of skin lesions and itching that affected sleep, he visited the outpatient clinic of our hospital again. The patient was diagnosed with nodular elastoidosis with cysts and acne and was given 5% peroxybenzoyl gel and 0.1% tretinoin cream for topical use. The study comprised selected residents of communities near the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University in Suzhou City, East China.Patients and Methods: Included in this study were 123 COPD patients and 60 controls. All patients completed spirometry as well as examinations to determine their functional exercise capacity, body composition, and handgrip strength (HGS).Results: COPD patients had less fat-free mass (FFM), a lower FFM index (FFMI), and a lower 6-min walking distance (6MWD) compared with controls (P = 0.007, P = 0.020, and P < 0.001, respectively) (FFMI: 17.59 ± 1.83 vs 18.34 ± 1.64). The HGS of these patients was also lower compared with that of controls (32.88 ± 7.84 vs 35.48 ± 7.42), and HGS tended toward statistical significance (P = 0.064, respectively). In multivariate analysis, age (β = − 0.107, P < 0.001), gender (β = 0.212, P < 0.001), body mass index (BMI) (β = 0.462, P < 0.001), FEV1% (β = 0.108, P = 0.009), and calf circumference (CC) (β = 0.457, P < 0.001) were significantly associated with FFMI.Conclusion: Impaired skeletal muscle mass was more common in COPD patients than in controls. A skin biopsy taken from the ulcer border revealed extensive loss of the epidermis, fibrosis of dermis, mild infiltration by lymphocytes and neutrophils, and necrosis of the focal eccrine ducts. CT angiography of the right upper limb showed a high origin of the radial artery, meanwhile both high originating radial artery and the anastomoses were tortuous and were of relatively small caliber. Densely distributed round and oval edematous erythema was noted on the neck, front chest, and back of the patient. Histopathologic examination of the skin lesions (blisters) on the chest revealed epidermal cell hyperkeratosis. He was diagnosed with PP and was treated with oral minocycline.Results: After 1-week minocycline administration, the patient’s itching was relieved, and the blisters dried up. His skin lesions recurred following self-withdrawal from the medication; subsequently, the patient was administered oral minocycline treatment again. After 1-month continuous oral treatment, the drug was discontinued. Quantum computing can become scalable through error correction, but logical error rates only decrease with system size when physical errors are sufficiently uncorrelated. During computation, unused high energy levels of the qubits can become excited, creating leakage states that are long-lived and mobile. Particularly for superconducting transmon qubits, this leakage opens a path to errors that are correlated in space and time. Here, we report a reset protocol that returns a qubit to the ground state from all relevant higher level states. We test its performance with the bit-flip stabilizer code, a simplified version of the surface code for quantum error correction. We investigate the accumulation and dynamics of leakage during error correction. Using this protocol, we find lower rates of logical errors and an improved scaling and stability of error suppression with increasing qubit number. This demonstration provides a key step on the path towards scalable quantum computing.

However, the association between these indices and skeletal-muscle atrophy in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has not been fully investigated. In this study, we evaluated this association.Patients and Methods: We recruited 123 outpatients with stable COPD from a general hospital in China from 2020 to 2021. We recorded their demographic characteristics, including age, sex, course of illness, dyspnea score, body mass index (BMI), force expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), smoking status, and severity grading. In addition, patients’ anthropometric indices, including fat-free mass index (FFMI) and appendicular skeletal-muscle mass index (ASMI), were measured using a body composition analyzer, and measurements were taken of the triceps skinfold (TSF), midarm circumference (MAC), and calf circumference (CC). We drew and analyzed a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve to identify the best intercept point value for the assessment of skeletal-muscle atrophy.Results: The TSF, MAC, CC, FFMI, and ASMI of COPD patients were 1.08 ± 0.44 cm, 26.39 ± 2.92 cm, 34.5 ± 3.06 cm, 17.49 ± 1.86 kg/m2, and 8.17 ± 0.90 kg/m2, respectively. These anthropometric indices had a significant positive correlation with skeletal-muscle mass (correlation values, 0.481– 0.820). CC was strongly correlated with both FFMI and ASMI. The ROC curve showed an area-under-the-curve (AUC) value of 0.873– 0.959.Conclusion: Anthropometric indices were correlated with skeletal-muscle mass. CC showed the best diagnostic value in COPD patients, suggesting its effectiveness as a simple method for assessing skeletal-muscle atrophy and identifying patients with a noticeable reduction in muscle mass. A 68-year-old man gradually developed vesicles on the scrotum for ten years and easily ruptured due to friction. Physical examination showed diffuse millet-sized vesicles on the scrotum with milky white fluids and chyle-like exudates. Histopathological examination revealed proliferating and dilated lymphatic vessels with various sizes of lumens in the dermis. An immunohistochemical study showed positive staining for D2-40 and CD31. Therefore, the patient was diagnosed with scrotal lymphangioma and received carbon dioxide laser therapy. After the treatment, the vesicles markedly decreased, and no apparent exudates were observed. All BSIs caused by CRKP in hospitalized HM patients were identified. Data on patient demographics, disease, laboratory tests, treatment regimens, outcomes of infection, and the antimicrobial susceptibility of each isolate were collected from medical records.Results: A total of 129 patients with CRKP BSI were included in the study, and the 28-day mortality rate was 80.6% (104/129). In Cox analysis an absolute neutrophil count < 500 at discharge (hazard ratio [HR] 6.386, 95% confidence interval [CI] 3.074– 13.266, p < 0.001), intensive care unit admission (HR 1.834, 95% CI 1.065– 3.157, p = 0.029), and higher Pitt bacteremia score (HR 1.185, 95% CI 1.118– 1.255, p < 0.001) were independent risk factors associated with 28-day mortality. Survival curve analysis indicated that compared with ceftazidime-avibactam-based therapy, both polymyxin b (HR 8.175, 95% CI 1.099– 60.804, p = 0.040) and tigecycline (HR 14.527, 95% CI 2.000– 105.541, p =0.008) were associated with a higher risk of mortality.Conclusion: In HM patients CRKP BSI resulted in high mortality. Intensive care unit admission, higher Pitt bacteremia score, and absolute neutrophil count < 500 at discharge were independently associated with higher mortality. This study aims to compare the efficacy of platinum-based chemotherapy (etoposide combined with cisplatin/carboplatin, EP/EC) and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with advanced PHNEC, and to evaluate the relevant prognostic factors.Patients and Methods: The clinical data of 41 patients with advanced PHNEC from June 2014 to October 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.Results: At a median follow-up time of 13.9 months, the median overall survival (OS) was 14.8 months in the EP/EC group and 12.2 months in the TACE group (P = 0.040). The median progression-free survival (PFS) was 4.4 months and 2.7 months in the EP/EC group and the TACE group, respectively (P = 0.005). No significant differences in the overall response rate and disease control rate were observed between the EP/EC group and the TACE group (26.1% vs 11.1%, P = 0.429; 73.9% vs 44.4%, P = 0.055, respectively). A univariate analysis indicated that the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS), Ki-67, tumor number, and treatment options were prognostic factors for OS. A multivariate analysis further showed that ECOG PS (P < 0.001), Ki-67 (P = 0.003), and treatment options (P = 0.022) were independent prognostic factors for OS.Conclusion: Ki-67, ECOG PS, and treatment options were the independent prognostic factors for OS in patients with advanced PHNEC. Survival was analysed using the Kaplan–Meier method. The relationships between clinicopathological factors and recurrence were determined using Cox regression analysis.Results: The median follow-up was 31 months. The 3-year disease-free survival and overall survival rates in groups I, II, and III were 92.7%, 87.8%, and 66.7% (P < 0.01) and 98.6%, 98.3%, and 90.6% (P=0.370), respectively. Lymph node status and tumour size were independent risk factors for recurrence and metastasis after NCT. In the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive subgroup, advanced cStage and lymph node metastasis were associated with recurrence (P < 0.01). In the hormone receptor-positive subgroup, disease-free survival rates differed for cStages I–II compared to cStage III (P=0.049) and clinical node status 0– 2 compared to clinical node status 3 (P=0.037).Conclusion: Pre-NCT cStage predicted the prognosis of pCR for different breast cancer subtypes. Patients with advanced cStage, lymph node metastasis, and large tumour sizes had a higher risk of recurrence or metastasis.Keywords: breast cancer, HER2, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, pathological complete response, prognosis

It is necessary to investigate new drugs through appropriate delivery routes and vehicles. Nanotechnology has utilized various nano-carriers to develop potential ocular drug delivery techniques that interact with the ocular mucosa, prolong the retention time of drugs in the eye, and increase permeability. Additionally, nano-carriers such as liposomes, nanoparticles, nano-suspensions, nano-micelles, and nano-emulsions have grown in popularity as an effective theranostic application to combat different microbial superbugs. In this review, we summarize the nano-carrier based drug delivery system developments over the last decade, particularly review the biology, methodology, approaches, and clinical applications of nano-carrier based drug delivery system in the field of ocular therapeutics. Furthermore, this review addresses upcoming challenges, and provides an outlook on potential future trends of nano-carrier-based drug delivery approaches in ophthalmology, and hopes to eventually provide successful applications for treating ocular diseases.Keywords: nano-carrier, nanomedicine, ocular disease, drug delivery system

A promising approach to study condensed-matter systems is to simulate them on an engineered quantum platform.sup.1-4. However, the accuracy needed to outperform classical methods has not been achieved so far. Here, using 18 superconducting qubits, we provide an experimental blueprint for an accurate condensed-matter simulator and demonstrate how to investigate fundamental electronic properties. We benchmark the underlying method by reconstructing the single-particle band structure of a one-dimensional wire. We demonstrate nearly complete mitigation of decoherence and readout errors, and measure the energy eigenvalues of this wire with an error of approximately 0.01 rad, whereas typical energy scales are of the order of 1 rad. Insight into the fidelity of this algorithm is gained by highlighting the robust properties of a Fourier transform, including the ability to resolve eigenenergies with a statistical uncertainty of 10.sup.-4 rad. We also synthesize magnetic flux and disordered local potentials, which are two key tenets of a condensed-matter system. When sweeping the magnetic flux we observe avoided level crossings in the spectrum, providing a detailed fingerprint of the spatial distribution of local disorder. By combining these methods we reconstruct electronic properties of the eigenstates, observing persistent currents and a strong suppression of conductance with added disorder. Our work describes an accurate method for quantum simulation.sup.5,6 and paves the way to study new quantum materials with superconducting qubits. Exogenous fibrolytic enzymes have been shown to be a promising way to improve feed conversion efficiency (FCE). β-Mannanase is an important enzyme digesting the polysaccharide β-mannan in hemicellulose. Supplementation of diets with β-mannanase to improve FCE has been more extensively studied in nonruminants than in ruminants. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of β-mannanase supplementation on nutrient digestibility, FCE, and nitrogen utilization in lactating Holstein dairy cows. Twelve post-peak-lactation multiparous Holstein cows producing 45.5±6.6kg/d of milk at 116±19.0d in milk were randomly allotted to 1 of 3 treatments in a 3×3 Latin square design with 3 periods of 18d (15d for adaptation plus 3d for sample collection). All cows were fed the same basal diet and the 3 treatments differed only by the β-mannanase dose: 0% dry matter (DM; control), 0.1% of DM (low supplement, LS), and 0.2% of DM (high supplement, HS) supplemented to the basal diet. Supplementation of β-mannanase enzyme at the LS dose reduced dry matter intake (DMI) but did not affect milk yield or milk composition. Cows receiving LS produced 90g more milk per kg of DMI compared with control cows. Somatic cell count (SCC) in milk was lower for cows fed the LS diet compared with cows fed control diets. Cows fed LS diet had lower DM, organic matter and crude protein digestibility compared with cows fed control diets. Starch, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber digestibility were not affected by LS. Milk yield, DMI, SCC, and nutrient digestibility did not change for HS. Despite the reduced crude protein digestibility, reduced N intake led to similar fecal N excretions in LS cows and control cows (234 vs. 235g/cow per day). Urinary N excretions remained similar between enzyme-fed and control cows (~190g/cow per day), although the percentage of N intake partitioned to urinary N tended to be greater in LS than in control cows (31 vs. 27%). Cows fed LS significantly improved the percentage of apparently absorbed N partitioned to milk protein N (42 vs. 38%). When supplemented at 0.1% of dietary DM, β-mannanase can improve FCE and lower the SCC of dairy cows without affecting milk yield, milk composition, or total manure N excretions of dairy cows.

Shedding of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes in ruminant manure is well reported. However, the influence of dietary manipulation on the shedding of the pathogens is not well understood. This study was conducted to improve the understanding of the relationship between dietary feed composition and pathogen shedding in dairy feces, particularly E. coli O157:H7 and L. monocytogenes. Twelve cows were randomly assigned to a 2 Ã 2 factorial arrangement of 2 dietary forage levels: low forage (37.4% of dry matter [DM]) vs. high forage (HF, 53.3% of DM) and two dietary crude protein (CP) levels: low protein (LP, 15.2% of DM) vs. high protein (HP, 18.5% of DM) in a 4 Ã 4 replicated Latin square design with four periods each including 15 d adaptation and 3 d sample collection. In CP treatments, significantly low concentrations of L. monocytogenes were observed from cows fed the HP (0.9-1.6 log10 cfu/g) compared to the LP diet (1.3â2.1 log10 cfu/g). Significant interaction effect was observed between dietary forage and crude protein on the presence of E. coli O157:H7 (P < 0.05) but not on L. monocytogenes. On average, the highest E. coli O157:H7 concentration (6.5 log10 cfu/g of feces) was observed from the HF and HP diet and the lowest concentration was 6.2 log10cfu/g from the HF and LP diet. The average L. monocytogenes shedding was within the range of 1.8 to 2.4 log 10cfu/g among the treatments. The study showed that diet has an influence on the shedding of pathogenic bacteria in dairy excreta.
