However, the clinical impact of mNGS remains unknown. Therefore, we performed a prospective cohort study to evaluate the clinical impact of mNGS for PJI diagnosis.Materials and Methods: Between April 2019 and April 2021, a total of 201 patients with suspected PJI were recruited in a high-volume PJI revision center. All patients underwent joint aspiration before surgeries and the obtained synovial fluids were sent to tests for the diagnosis of PJI. Based on the clinical evaluation of these patients, the patients were categorized into three groups: Group A: the mNGS reports were not acted upon. Group B: mNGS confirmed the standard diagnostic tests of PJI and generated identical clinical impact compared to standard diagnostic tests. Group C: mNGS results guided clinical therapy. Then, the concordance between synovial mNGS and cultures was analyzed. After that, multivariate regressions were performed to explore the “targeted populations” of mNGS tests.Results: A total of 107 patients were diagnosed with PJI based on the 2014 MSIS criteria and there were 33, 123, 45 patients in the group A, B, C respectively. The predictive factors of mNGS inducing clinical impact compared to standard diagnostic tests were negative culture results (adjusted OR: 5.88), previous history of joint infection (adjusted OR: 5.97), polymicrobial PJI revealed by culture (adjusted OR: 4.39) and PJI identified by MSIS criteria (adjusted OR: 17.06).Conclusion: When standard diagnostic tests for PJI were performed, about 22% of synovial fluid mNGS tests can change the treatment protocols built on standard diagnostic tests and affect the clinical practice. Thus, the use of synovial fluid mNGS in some “target” populations is more valuable compared to others such as patients with previous joint infection, polymicrobial PJI, and culture-negative PJI.Evidence Level: Level I.Keywords: periprosthetic joint infection, metagenomic next-generation sequencing, clinical impact

Abstract

We have observed $23.2 \pm 6.0_{-0.9}^{+1.0}$ purely-leptonic decays of $D_s^+ -> \mu^+ \nu_\mu$ from a sample of muonic one prong decay events detected in the emulsion target of Fermilab experiment E653. Using the $D_s^+ -> \phi \mu^+ \nu_\mu$ yield measured previously in this experiment, we obtain $B(D_s^+ --> \mu^+ \nu_\mu) / B(D_s^+ --> \phi \mu^+ \nu_\mu) =0.16 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.03$. In addition, we extract the decay constant $f_{D_s}=194 \pm 35 \pm 20 \pm 14 MeV$., Comment: 15 pages including one figure

Abstract

The R-Fe-B (R, rare earth) sintered magnets prepared with different ratio of alloys of MM-Fe-B (MM, misch-metal) and Nd-Fe-B by dual alloy method were investigated. As expected, the high ratio of MM-Fe-B alloy degrades the hard magnetic properties heavily with intrinsic coercivity lower than 5 kOe. When the atomic ratio MM/R≤21.5% the magnetic properties can reach a practical level of Br≥12.1 kGs, Hcj≥10.7 kOe, and (BH)max≥34.0 MGOe. And the effect of Hcj enhancement by the grain boundary diffusion process is obvious when MM/R≤21.5%. It is revealed that the decrement of intrinsic magnetic properties of R2Fe14B matrix phase is not the main reason of the degradation of the magnets with high MM ratio. The change of deteriorated microstructure together with phase component plays fundamental roles in low Hcj. In high MM ratio magnets, (a) after annealing, Ce atoms inside main phase are inclined to be segregated in the outer layer of the main phase grains; (b) there is no thin layer of Ce-rich phase as an analogue of Nd-rich phase to separate main phase grains; (c) excessive Ce tends to form CeFe2 grains. Abstract

A first analysis of the complete set of data collected by CHORUS in the years 1994-1997 is presented. The search for $\nut$ charged current events has been performed for both leptonic and hadronic decays of the $\tauu$ lepton. No $\tauu$ candidate has been found. A $\numtonut$ mixing is excluded down to $\sin2t$ = $6.8 \times 10^{-4}$ for large $\dm2$ (90\%~C.L.).

Abstract

We report on the first direct observation of a neutrino induced charged-current interaction with two subsequent decays of short-lived particles close to the interaction vertex. This rare double- kink signature in the CHORUS emulsion target is interpreted as a $D_s^{*+}$ production followed by the decay chain $D_s^{*+} \rightarrow D_s^+ \gamma, D_s^+ \rightarrow \tau^+ \nu_\tau ,$ \linebr eak $\tau^+\rightarrow \mu^+\nu_\mu\bar{\nu_\tau}$. The event is characterised by small $Q^2$ and small four-momentum transfer squared $t$ to the target nucleon, which indicates a diffractive pr oduction mechanism. A complete analysis of the event is presented.

Abstract

Part of the neutrino events collected in 1994-1995 by the CHORUS experiment has been analysed. A search was performed for $\nu_{\tau}$ charged current interactions followed by the $\tau$ lepton deca y into a single charged negative hadron, a possible indication for $\numtonut$ oscillation. A sample of 6,844 events without an identified muon has been located in the emulsion target. Within the s election criteria, no $\tau^-$ candidate has been found. Combining this result with the one from the search for $\nu_\tau$ interactions using the muonic decay mode (36,182 events with an identified muon), a 90\% C.L. limit on the mixing angle $\sin2t < 1.8\cdot 10^{-3}$ (at large $\Delta m^2$) has been derived.

Abstract

CHORUS is an experiment searching for $\numtonut$ oscillation in the CERN wide band neutrino beam with a {\sl hybrid} setup consisting of a nuclear emulsion target followed by electronic detectors. The experiment has been taking data from 1994 through 1997. A subset of the neutrino interactions collected in 1994 and 1995 have been analyzed, looking for $\nu_\tau$ charged current interactions where the $\tau$ lepton decays to $\mu \bar{\nu}_\mu\nu_\tau$. In a sample of 31,423 $\num$ charged current interactions, no $\nu_\tau$ candidates were found. For large $\dm2$ values, a limit on the mixing angle of $\sin2t < 3.5 \times 10^{-3}$ at $90\%$ C.L. can be set, thus improving the previous best result.
