- Abstract
The Global Consortium for the Classification of Fungi and fungus-like taxa is an international initiative of more than 550 mycologists to develop an electronic structure for the classification of these organisms. The members of the Consortium originate from 55 countries/regions worldwide, from a wide range of disciplines, and include senior, mid-career and early-career mycologists and plant pathologists. The Consortium will publish a biannual update of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa, to act as an international scheme for other scientists. Notes on all newly published taxa at or above the level of species will be prepared and published online on the Outline of Fungi website (https://www.outlineoffungi.org/), and these will be finally published in the biannual edition of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa. Comments on recent important taxonomic opinions on controversial topics will be included in the biannual outline. - Abstract
The Global Consortium for the Classification of Fungi and fungus-like taxa is an international initiative of more than 550 mycologists to develop an electronic structure for the classification of these organisms. The members of the Consortium originate from 55 countries/regions worldwide, from a wide range of disciplines, and include senior, mid-career and early-career mycologists and plant pathologists. The Consortium will publish a biannual update of the Outline of Fungi and funguslike taxa, to act as an international scheme for other scientists. Notes on all newly published taxa at or above the level of species will be prepared and published online on the Outline of Fungi website (https://www.outlineoffungi.org/), and these will be finally published in the biannual edition of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa. Comments on recent important taxonomic opinions on controversial topics will be included in the biannual outline. - Abstract
The Global Consortium for the Classification of Fungi and fungus-like taxa is an international initiative of more than 550 mycologists to develop an electronic structure for the classification of these organisms. The members of the Consortium originate from 55 countries/regions worldwide, from a wide range of disciplines, and include senior, mid-career and early-career mycologists and plant pathologists. The Consortium will publish a biannual update of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa, to act as an international scheme for other scientists. Notes on all newly published taxa at or above the level of species will be prepared and published online on the Outline of Fungi website (https://www.outlineoffungi.org/), and these will be finally published in the biannual edition of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa. Comments on recent important taxonomic opinions on controversial topics will be included in the biannual outline. For example, 'to promote a more stable taxonomy in Fusarium given the divergences over its generic delimitation', or 'are there too many genera in the Boletales?' and even more importantly, 'what should be done with the tremendously diverse 'dark fungal taxa?' There are undeniable differences in mycologists' perceptions and opinions regarding species classification as well as the establishment of new species. Given the pluralistic nature of fungal taxonomy and its implications for species concepts and the nature of species, this consortium aims to provide a platform to better refine and stabilise fungal classification, taking into consideration views from different parties. In the future, a confidential voting system will be set up to gauge the opinions of all mycologists in the Consortium on important topics. The results of such surveys will be presented to the International Commission on the Taxonomy of Fungi (ICTF) and the Nomenclature Committee

- Abstract
Family Cortinariaceae currently includes only one genus, Cortinarius, which is the largest Agaricales genus, with thousands of species worldwide. The species are important ectomycorrhizal fungi and form associations with many vascular plant genera from tropicals to arctic regions. Genus Cortinarius contains a lot of morphological variation, and its complexity has led many taxonomists to specialize in particular on infrageneric groups. The previous attempts to divide Cortinarius have been shown to be unnatural and the phylogenetic studies done to date have not been able to resolve the higher-level classifcation of the group above section level. Genomic approaches have revolutionized our view on fungal relationships and provide a way to tackle difcult groups. We used both targeted capture sequencing and shallow whole genome sequencing to produce data and to perform phylogenomic analyses of 75 single-copy genes from 19 species. In addition, a wider 5-locus analysis of 245 species, from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, was also done. Based on our results, a classifcation of the family Cortinariaceae into ten genera—Cortinarius, Phlegmacium, Thaxterogaster, Calonarius, Aureonarius, Cystinarius, Volvanarius, Hygronarius, Mystinarius, and Austrocortinarius—is proposed. Seven genera, 10 subgenera, and four sections are described as new to science and fve subgenera are introduced as new combinations in a new rank. In addition, 41 section names and 514 species names are combined in new genera and four lecto- and epitypes designated. The position of Stephanopus in suborder Agaricineae remains to be studied. Targeted capture sequencing is used for the frst time in fungal taxonomy in Basidiomycetes. It provides a cost-efcient way to produce -omics data in species-rich groups. The focus of this paper is the North American species of Cortinarius in subg. Leprocybe. Eighteen species, including twelve new ones, and two tentative (aff.) species, are delimited based on morphological and molecular data (DNA ITS-LSU sequences). Existing type specimens of species in subg. Leprocybe were also studied, and neo- or epitypes designated for C. cotoneus, C. melanotus, C. phrygianus and C. venetus to stabilize the nomenclature. In addition, to improve the infrasubgeneric classification of Leprocybe three new sections are proposed: sect. Fuscotomentosi, sect. Melanoti and sect. Squamiveneti. This study adds substantial information to the knowledge of subg. Leprocybe in North America against a background of European species. To date only two species, C. phrygianus and C. squamivenetus have been reported from both continents.

Tämän kirjallisuusselvityksen tavoitteena oli perehtyä vapaavirtausturbiinien käyttömahdollisuuksiin ja niiden rakenteellisiin toteutuksiin. Työssä selvitetään myös, minkälaista pienvesivoimaa Suomessa käytetään ja kuinka paljon käyttämätöntä potentiaalia pienvesivoimasektorilla on edelleen käytettävissä. Työssä pohditaan millaisissa tilanteissa in-stream-voimalat ovat varteenotettava sähköntuotantomuoto myös Suomessa. Työn tarkoituksena on antaa lukijalle yleiskäsitys siitä millaisia komponentteja in-stream-voimalat sisältävät, missä niitä voidaan käyttää ja mitkä ominaisuudet voimaloissa vaikuttavat niiden hyötysuhteeseen ja suorituskykyyn. Turbiineissa pääpaino kohdistuu verikaaliakselisiin roottoreihin ja eritoten Savonius-turbiinin ominaisuuksiin ja niiden optimointiin. Työssä pyritään selvittämään kattavasti voimaloiden sijoittamiseen, asentamiseen ja niistä muodostettaviin voimalaryhmiin liittyviä asioita. Työn lopussa pohditaan olisiko in-stream-voimaloiden osia tai turbiineita mahdollista valmistaa 3D-tulostamalla. The purpose of this literature survey was to report accessibilities and structural executions of the in-stream-turbines. In this thesis there is a statement which goes through what kind of small hydro power is used in Finland and how much unused potential there is in the small hydro power sector. The thesis describes in which situations free-flow hydro plants are worthy production form of electricity in Finland. The goal was to give a basic understanding of the components used in in-stream hydro plants, where they can be used, and which are the qualities that affect on their efficiency and performance. The main interest in turbines focuses on to the vertical shaft turbines and especially on optimizing the features of the Savonius turbine. The aim of the thesis is to report comprehensively the issues related to the installation, location and power plant groups. At the end of the thesis, there is a discussion could it be possible to produce in-stream hydro plant parts or turbines using 3D-printing.

Tiivistelmä. Mortonin jalka tarkoittaa jalkaterän anatomista poikkeavuutta, jossa ensimmäisen varpaan metatarsaali (jalkapöydänluu) on lyhyt suhteessa toisen varpaan metatarsaaliin. Mortonin jalka on väestössä yleinen anatominen variaatio. Sen esiintyvyys vaihtelee eri maissa muutamasta prosentista kymmeniin prosentteihin. Freibergin taudilla tarkoitetaan väestössä suhteellisen harvinaista jalan toisen (harvemmin myös kolmannen tai neljännen) metatarsaalin distaalipään nivelpinnan nekrotisoitumista ja sitä seuraavaa kiputilaa. Tauti on yleisempi naisilla kuin miehillä (suhteessa 5:1). Tässä tutkimuksessa luokiteltiin Pohjois-Suomen syntymäkohortti 1966 osaotoksen jalkateräröntgenaineistoa ja selvitettiin metatarsaalien pituuksia ja Freibergin taudin yleisyyttä ja variaatiota, sekä sitä, lisääkö pitkä toinen metatarsaali Freibergin taudin kehittymisen riskiä. Yleisesti vakiintunutta menetelmää metatarsaalien pituuksien mittaamiseen ei ole, joten tutkimuksen alussa vertailtiin kolmea toisistaan poikkeavaa menetelmää; Hardy-Clapham, Maestron ja Coughlinin menetelmiä. Lukijan sisäisen ja lukijoiden välisen toistettavuuden mittauksissa yhtäpitävimmäksi ja siten lopulliseksi luokitusmenetelmäksi valikoitui Coughlinin menetelmä, jolla mittaukset aineistoon suoritettiin. Tutkimus osoitti, että Freibergin tauti on suomalaisessa väestössä hyvin harvinainen, ja ettei toisen metatarsaalin pituus korreloi Freibergin taudin esiintyvyyden kanssa.

- Abstract
Cortinarius is the largest genus of ectomycorrhizal fungi worldwide. Recent molecular studies have shown high levels of morphological homoplasy within the genus. Importantly, DNA phylogenies can reveal characteristics that have been either over- or underemphasized in taxonomic studies. Here we sequenced and phylogenetically analysed a large set of pan-European and North American collections taxonomically studied and placed in Cortinarius sect. Bicolores and sect. Saturnini, according to traditional morpho-anatomical criteria. Our goal was to circumscribe the evolutionary boundaries of the two sections, to stabilize both the limits and nomenclature of relevant species, and to identify described taxa which, according to our current understanding, belong to other lineages. Our analysis resolves two clades: /Bicolores, including 12 species, one of which is new to science, and /Saturnini, including 6 species. Fifteen binomials, traditionally treated in these two sections based on morphology, do not belong to the above two phylogenetic clades. Instead, six of these latter are clearly placed in other clades that represent sect. Bovini, sect. Sciophylli, sect. Duracini and sect. Brunneotincti. The presence or absence of blue pigments and the detection of specific odours emerge as clearly misleading taxonomic features, but more surprisingly, spore size and ecology can be misleading as well. A total of 63 type specimens were sequenced, 4 neotypes and 2 epitypes are proposed here, and 1 new combination is made.

The objective of WP4 is to increase fuel flexibility of different engine concepts. A number of fuel options, including challenging liquid biofuels and their treatment, as well as gaseous fuels, were explored. LNG was found to be potential solution to oncoming environmental requirements in shipping. The general conception and knowledge of the implementation requirements for the LNG logistic were achieved. Supply chain analysis showed how LNG quality specifications affect an ability to meet future LNG demands in Finland. Alternative upgrading technologies providing sufficient gas quality for the supply to the natural gas grid were explored. The main focus was on operational parameters, upgrading costs and recent developments. Another study on biogas concerned siloxane removal, which is a weak spot for biogas from wastewater and landfills. Knowledge was gained for choosing fit-for-purpose and cost-effective designs for biogas applications in Finland. Method to predict performance of fuels in engine basing just in chemical and physical properties of fuels were explored with two simulation softwares, GT Power and Diesel-RK. However, both of these proved to have limited predictive capability of the combustion process thus making engine testing a necessity. Engine tests with different fuels were utilized for the prediction method. Before the engine tests, pre-treatment methods for difficult fuels were developed to enable their use in engines. Combustion properties of various fuels were studied with special ignition test unit, with a medium-speed and with a high-speed engine. The fuel injection system and engine configurations were modified according to requirements of fuels. Some fuels yielded promising results when engine performance and emissions are considered. Data from engine tests form a base for development of prediction method, but also gives valuable information about the behaviour of various fuels and the engine components. For non-road machinery, diesel-ignited dual fuel ethanol engine was developed. The performance targets were met and the engine can be switched from diesel to diesel-ethanol operation at any load without noticeable change in engine operating point. Depending on speed and load, 20 to 70 % of diesel consumption can be replaced with ethanol. Another study on non-road machinery concluded that 20% FAME biodiesel blend cannot be recommended for the state-of-the art heavy-duty engines without revision of fuel standards.

Cortinarius is a species-rich and morphologically challenging genus with a cosmopolitan distribution. Many names have not been used consistently and in some instances the same species has been described two or more times under separate names. This study focuses on subg. Phlegmacium as traditionally defined and includes species from boreal and temperate areas of the northern hemisphere. Our goals for this project were to: i) study type material to determine which species already have been described; ii) stabilize the use of Friesian and other older names by choosing a neo- or epitype; iii) describe new species that were discovered during the process of studying specimens; and iv) establish an accurate ITS barcoding database for Phlegmacium species. A total of 236 types representing 154 species were studied. Of these 114 species are described only once whereas 40 species had one ore more synonyms. Of the names studied only 61 were currently represented in GenBank. Neotypes are proposed for 21 species, and epitypes are designated for three species. In addition, 20 new species are described and six new combinations made. As a consequence ITS barcodes for 175 Cortinarius species are released.

In order to identify and rank specific food/pathogen combinations most often linked to human cases originating from FoNAO in the EU, a semi-quantitative model was developed using seven criteria: strength of associations between food and pathogen based on the foodborne outbreak data from EU Zoonoses Monitoring (2007-2011), incidence of illness, burden of disease, dose-response relationship, consumption, prevalence of contamination and pathogen growth potential during shelf life. The top ranking food/pathogen combination was Salmonella spp. and leafy greens eaten raw followed by (in equal rank) Salmonella spp. and bulb and stem vegetables, Salmonella spp. and tomatoes, Salmonella spp. and melons, and pathogenic Escherichia coli and fresh pods, legumes or grains. Despite the inherent assumptions and limitations, this risk model is considered a tool for risk managers, as it allows ranking of food/pathogen combinations most often linked to foodborne human cases originating from FoNAO in the EU. Efforts to collect additional data even in the absence of reported outbreaks as well as to enhance the quality of the EU-specific data, which was used as input for all the model criteria, will allow the improvement of the model outputs. Furthermore, it is recommended that harmonised terminology be applied to the categorisation of foods collected for different reasons, e.g. monitoring, surveillance, outbreak investigation and consumption. In addition, to assist future microbiological risk assessments, consideration should be given to the collection of additional information on how food has been processed, stored and prepared as part of the above data collection exercises.

Food of non-animal origin (FoNAO) are a major component of almost all meals and comprise a wide range of fruit, vegetables, salads, seeds, nuts, cereals, herbs, spices, fungi, and algae. A hybrid strain of enteroaggregative and Shiga toxin 2-producing Escherichia coli (EAEC-STEC) serotype O104:H4 strain caused a large outbreak of haemolytic uraemic syndrome and bloody diarrhoea in 2011 in Europe. Two surveys were performed in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries to assess their laboratory capabilities to detect and characterise this previously uncommon STEC strain. Prior to the outbreak, 11 of the 32 countries in this survey had capacity at national reference laboratory (NRL) level for epidemic case confirmation according to the EU definition. During the outbreak, at primary diagnostic level, nine countries reported that clinical microbiology laboratories routinely used Shiga toxin detection assays suitable for diagnosis of infections with EAEC-STEC O104:H4, while 14 countries had NRL capacity to confirm epidemic cases. Six months after the outbreak, 22 countries reported NRL capacity to confirm such cases following initiatives taken by NRLs and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Food- and Waterborne Disease and Zoonoses laboratory network. These data highlight the challenge of detection and confirmation of epidemic infections caused by atypical STEC strains and the benefits of coordinated EU laboratory networks to strengthen capabilities in response to a major outbreak.

High insulin concentrations increase blood flow in the leg, but it is unknown whether this effect is associated with a change in muscle blood volume. In the present study, we used positron emission tomography combined with inhalation of [15O]carbon monoxide to quantitate the effect of insulin on skeletal muscle blood volume in humans. The reproducibility of the method was determined from two consecutive measurements performed in the basal state in five normal subjects. The coefficient of variation of the repeated measurements was 3.0 +/- 1.8%. In 14 normal subjects [age 35 +/- 3 yr, body mass index 24.9 +/- 1.3 (SE) kg/m2], skeletal muscle blood volume was determined in the femoral region in the basal state and during euglycemic hyperinsulinemia (serum insulin 3,200 +/- 190 pmol/l). The mean muscle blood volume was 3.3 +/- 0.1 ml/0.1 kg muscle in the basal state. Insulin increased muscle blood volume by 9 +/- 2% to 3.6 +/- 0.2 ml/0.1 kg muscle (P < 0.01). The rate of whole body glucose uptake was 53 +/- 6 mumol.kg-1.min-1 and correlated with muscle blood volume during insulin stimulation (r = 0.65, P < 0.02). We conclude that high insulin concentrations exert a true vasodilatory effect in human skeletal muscle.

Background: TB-403 (RO 5323441), a humanised monoclonal antibody, is a novel antiangiogenesis agent directed against placental growth factor. The safety, pharmacokinetics (PK), and antitumour activity of TB-403 were assessed in a phase I, dose-escalation study in patients with advanced solid tumours. Methods: Patients in sequential dose groups received either weekly doses of 1.25, 5.0, or 10 mg kg−1 or doses of 20 or 30 mg kg−1 every third week. Results: Twenty-three patients were enrolled and received TB-403. The most common adverse events (AEs) were fatigue, constipation, pyrexia, dyspnoea, and nausea. One serious AE, a lung embolus in a patient with non-small cell lung cancer treated with 10 mg kg−1 weekly, was deemed possibly related to TB-403. No dose-limiting toxicities were observed, and a maximum-tolerated dose was not reached. The PK parameters were dose linear and the terminal half-life values ranged from 9 to 14 days. Six patients exhibited stable disease for at least 8 weeks. Two patients, (oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma) both treated with 5 mg kg−1 weekly, remained stable for 12 months. Conclusion: TB-403 treatment in this patient population is well tolerated, with a safety profile distinct from that of vascular endothelial growth factor-axis inhibitors.

- Abstract
DNA phylogenetic comparisons have shown that morphology-based species recognition often underestimates fungal diversity. Therefore, the need for accurate DNA sequence data, tied to both correct taxonomic names and clearly annotated specimen data, has never been greater. Furthermore, the growing number of molecular ecology and microbiome projects using high-throughput sequencing require fast and effective methods for en masse species assignments. In this article, we focus on selecting and re-annotating a set of marker reference sequences that represent each currently accepted order of Fungi. The particular focus is on sequences from the internal transcribed spacer region in the nuclear ribosomal cistron, derived from type specimens and/or ex-type cultures. Reannotated and verified sequences were deposited in a curated public database at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), namely the RefSeq Targeted Loci (RTL) database, and will be visible during routine sequence similarity searches with NR_prefixed accession numbers. A set of standards and protocols is proposed to improve the data quality of new sequences, and we suggest how type and other reference sequences can be used to improve identification of Fungi.

49. virF-positive Yersinia pseudotuberculosis and Yersinia enterocolitica found in migratory birds in Sweden

- Abstract
During spring and autumn migrations, 468 fecal samples from 57 different species of migratory birds were collected in Sweden. In total, Yersinia spp. were isolated from 12.8% of collected samples. The most commonly found species was Yersinia enterocolitica, which was isolated from 5.6% of all collected samples, followed by Y. intermedia (3.8%), Y. frederiksenii (3.0%), Y kristensenii (0.9%), Y. pseudotuberculosis (0.6%), and Y. rohdei (0.4%). The pathogenic, virF-positive Y. pseudotuberculosis strains were recovered from three thrushes. These strains belonged to the same bioserotype, 1/O:2, but had two different profiles as determined by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis with NotI and SpeI enzymes. In addition, 10 Y. enterocolitica strains, all from barnacle geese, belonged to bioserotype 310:3, which is associated with human disease. Two of the strains were pathogenic, carrying the virF gene on their plasmids. All pathogenic Y. pseudotuberculosis and Y. enterocolitica strains were recovered during the spring, and as the birds were caught during active migration they likely became infected at an earlier stage of the migration, thus potentially transporting these bacterial pathogens over long geographical distances.

50. Applicability of the Scandinavian odor identification test : a Finnish–Swedish comparison

- Abstract
The possibility of using the Scandinavian Odor Identification Test (SOIT), developed for clinical purposes for use with Swedish subjects, for assessment of another northern European population was studied by comparing test performance between 127 Finnish and 127 Swedish participants, who were matched for age (19-85 years) and gender. The results showed very similar performance between countries and demonstrated, as expected, age- and gender-related differences in performance. Test-retest reliability was as good in Finnish as in Swedish subgroups of participants and no significant difference between countries in terms of diagnostic distribution (normosmia, hyposmia and anosmia) was found when using existing cut-off scores. The findings suggest that the SOIT, with its diagnostic cut-off scores, is reliable and valid for use with Finnish populations.
