Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) of the liver is a rare benign variant of hepatic masses, and its exact etiology has not been elucidated. We report a case of IPT associated with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). The patient was a 50-year-old man admitted to our hospital because of jaundice. Abdominal ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography showed multiple dilations of the intrahepatic bile ducts and multiple masses in the liver. On magnetic resonance imaging, the masses were slightly hypointense on T1-weighted images and slightly hyperintense on T2-weighted images. On T1-weighted images after the bolus infusion of Gd chelate, the masses had no contrast enhancement, and they were hypointense in the arterial phase and portal venous phase. However, they were slightly enhanced and became almost isointense relative to the surrounding normal liver parenchyma in the delayed phase. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiography demonstrated multiple irregular strictures and dilations of the intrahepatic bile ducts. Angiography demonstrated no abnormal findings, but, interestingly, subsequent dynamic CO2-enhanced US showed a strongly hyperechoic string, indicating that an artery had penetrated through the hypoechoic mass. A US-guided percutaneous needle biopsy revealed that the lesions were morphologically comparable to IPT. After cholangiography and microscopic analysis of the tumor, the final diagnosis was determined to be IPT of the liver with PSC. A number of previous reports have suggested a possible relationship between IPT and PSC, based on pathological findings. A selective nucleation based crystal growth technique over amorphous substrates is originated. The method manipulates nucleation sites and periods, and hence, controls the grain boundary location by modifying the substrate surface. In Si, Si3 N4 provides artificial nucleation sites, 1–2 μm in diameter, 100 μ m in period, which is surrounded by SiO2 . One Si nucleus is formed exclusively in a small portion of Si3 N4 . The highly faceted and periodically located nuclei grow over SiO2 up to 100 μm in diameter before impingement. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have shown great potential as biomarkers since they reflect the physio-pathological status of the producing cell. In the context of cytotoxicity, it has been found that exposing cells to toxicants leads to changes in protein expression and the cargo of the EVs they produce. Here, we studied large extracellular vesicles (lEVs) derived from human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1) to detect the modifications induced by cell exposure to benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P). We used a custom CaF 2 -based biochip which allowed hyphenated techniques of investigation: surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) to monitor the adsorption of objects, atomic force microscopy (AFM) to characterise EVs' size and morphology, and Raman spectroscopy to detect molecular modifications. Results obtained on EVs by Raman microscopy and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) showed significant differences induced by B[a]P in the high wavenumber region of Raman spectra (2800 to 3000 cm -1 ), corresponding mainly to lipid modifications. Two types of spectra were detected in the control sample. A support vector machine (SVM) model was trained on the pre-processed spectral data to differentiate between EVs from cells exposed or not to B[a]P at the spectrum level; this model could achieve a sensitivity of 88% and a specificity of 99.5%. Highly Li-concentrated electrolytes are acknowledged for their compatibility with Li metal negative electrodes and high voltage positive electrodes to achieve high-energy Li metal batteries, showcasing stable and facile interfaces for Li deposition/dissolution and high anodic stability. This study aims to explore a highly concentrated electrolyte by adopting entropy-driven chemistry for Li metal-free (so-called anode-free) batteries. The combination of lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)amide (LiFSA) and lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate (LiOTf) salts in a pyrrolidinium-based ionic liquid is found to significantly modify the coordination structure, resulting in an unprecedented 60 mol% Li concentration and a low solvent-to-salt ratio of 0.67:1 in the electrolyte system. This novel 60 mol% Li electrolyte demonstrates unique coordination stricture, featuring a high ratio of monodentate-anion structures and aggregates, which facilitates an enhanced Li + transference number and improved anodic stability. Moreover, the developed electrolyte provides a facile de-coordination process and leads to the formation of an anion-based solid electrolyte interface, which enables stable Li deposition/dissolution properties and demonstrates excellent cycling stability in the Li metal-free full cell with a Li[Ni 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 ]O 2 (NCM811) positive electrode., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Background/aims: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) using a 19-gauge needle is an efficient sampling method for the diagnosis of lymphadenopathy. This study compared 19-gauge conventional and Franseen needles for the diagnosis of lymphadenopathy and classification of malignant lymphoma (ML)., Methods: Patient characteristics, number of needle passes, puncture route, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of cytology/histology for lymphadenopathy were analyzed in patients diagnosed with lymphadenopathy by EUS-FNA using conventional or Franseen needles., Results: Between 2012 and 2022, 146 patients met the inclusion criteria (conventional [n=70] and Franseen [n=76]). The median number of needle passes was significantly lower in the conventional group than in the Franseen group (3 [1-6] vs. 4 [1-6], p=0.023). There were no significant differences in cytological/histological diagnoses between the two groups. For ML, the immunohistochemical evaluation rate, sensitivity of flow cytometry, and cytogenetic assessment were not significantly different in either group. Bleeding as adverse events (AEs) were observed in three patients in the Franseen group., Conclusions: Both the 19-gauge conventional and Franseen needles showed high accuracy in lymphadenopathy and ML classification. Considering sufficient tissue collection and the avoidance of AEs, the use of 19-gauge conventional needles seems to be a good option for the diagnosis of lymphadenopathy.

A 59-year-old man receiving sunitinib chemotherapy for postoperative recurrence of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) metastases was found to have multiple metastases on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT). CECT revealed a typical hyperdense enhanced nodule in the arterial phase of the stomach and head and tail of the pancreas. However, in the uncinate process of the pancreas, CECT revealed an atypical image and a hypodense enhanced nodule in each phase. Both lesions were finally pathologically diagnosed as clear cell carcinoma. Treatment-modified pancreatic metastases from RCC may present with nonspecific images; therefore, caution is required when deciding on treatment strategies.

Background: Hepcidin is an antimicrobial peptide and a key hormone involved in iron homeostasis. Hepcidin level is elevated in the serum during the course of Helicobacter pylori infection and hepcidin is considered to contribute to iron deficiency anemia. However, it is unclear whether H. pylori infection influences hepcidin expression in the gastric mucosa., Method: In this study, 15 patients with H. pylori-infected nodular gastritis, 43 patients with H. pylori-infected chronic gastritis, and 33 patients without H. pylori infection were enrolled. Endoscopic biopsy, and histological and immunohistochemical analysis were performed to evaluate the expression of hepcidin and its distribution in the gastric mucosa., Result: Hepcidin was strongly expressed in the lymph follicles of patients with nodular gastritis. The detection rates of gastric hepcidin-positive lymphocytes in patients with nodular gastritis and chronic gastritis were significantly higher than that without H. pylori infection. Moreover, regardless of the H. pylori infection status, hepcidin was expressed in the cytoplasm and intracellular canaliculi of gastric parietal cells., Conclusion: Hepcidin is expressed at a steady state in gastric parietal cells, and H. pylori infection may induce hepcidin expression in lymphocytes present in the gastric mucosal lymphoid follicles. This phenomenon may be associated with systemic hepcidin overexpression and iron deficiency anemia in patients with H. pylori-infected nodular gastritis.
