Abstract Background This retrospective multicentric study aims to report on technical safety and effectiveness of pseudoaneurysms embolization with glue (N-butyl cyanoacrylate) adopting a percutaneous direct puncture approach. Results Fifty-four patients data were collected from five centers. All patients at the time of treatment presented with unruptured PAs and were hemodynamically stable. True aneurysms and lesions treated with embolics other than glue were excluded. Pseudoaneurysms diagnosis was based on CT and anamnestic data; initial investigation with digital-subtracted arteriography was acquired in all cases; then, percutaneous embolizations were performed in the angio-suite (ultrasound, fluoroscopy, ConeBeam CT guidance) or in CT. Technical success was considered as complete pseudoaneurysm embolization at final imaging with sole percutaneous strategy, without need for additional endovascular embolization. Clinical success was intended as pseudoaneurysm resolution within one week follow-up with stabilization or restored clinical conditions. Pseudoaneurysms origins were traumatic (57.4%), inflammatory (24.1%) or spontaneous (18.5%); 39 patients (72.2%) were symptomatic, presenting with pain and/or pulsatile mass. Mean lesions diameter was 19.3 mm (range: 7–30); pseudoaneurysms were located in abdomen (48.1%), limbs (42.6%) and thorax (9.3%). Coagulation function was impaired in 16.6% and 48.1% was under antiplatelets/anticoagulation therapy. In 16.6% the percutaneous approach followed previous treatments failure. The image-guidance modality for percutaneous puncture was most often ultrasound combined with fluoroscopy (38%). Clinical success was obtained in all patients while technical success occurred in 94.4% because 3 patients required an additional endovascular embolization. Complications were registered in 14.8%, all of low grade without clinical sequelae neither prolonged recovery (7 non target embolizations, 1 post-embolization syndrome). Conclusions In this study, pseudoaneurysms embolization with glue via percutaneous direct puncture was safe and effective with a low rate of minor complications.

This paper aims to assess the disinfecting capacity of a double-distilled ozonated water solution as an alternative to common antibiotic and antiseptic devices. Seventy-five dogs were subjected to the surgical procedures of scaling and dental extraction and included in three study groups: Group 1 subjected to antibiotic pre-treatment (association amoxicillin + clavulanic acid and ampicillin + metronidazole) and disinfection with chlorhexidine, and Group 2 and 3 devoid of preventive anti-microbial treatment in which disinfection was performed, respectively, with ozonated water and chlorhexidine. Sampling by bacteriological buffer was carried out to evaluate the bacterial count in the oral cavity. The analysis of the samples determined the total mesophilic bacterial count by seeding on the culture medium via the inclusion of PCA (Plate Count Agar). The results highlighted the anti-bacterial efficacy of intra-operative ozone as an alternative to pre-surgical antibiotic treatment.

Gastrointestinal bleeding is a potentially life-threatening abdominal emergency that remains a common cause of hospitalisation. Although 80–85% of cases of gastrointestinal bleeding resolve spontaneously, it can result in massive haemorrhage and death. The presentation of gastrointestinal bleeding can range from asymptomatic or mildly ill patients requiring only conservative treatments to severely ill patients requiring immediate intervention. Identifying the source of the bleeding can be difficult due to the wide range of potential causes, the length of the gastrointestinal tract and the intermittent nature of the bleeding. The diagnostic and therapeutic approach is fully dependent on the nature of the bleeding and the patient’s haemodynamic status. Radiologists should be aware of the appropriate uses of computed tomography angiography and other imaging modalities in patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding, as well as the semiotics of bleeding and diagnostic pitfalls in order to appropriately diagnose and manage these patients. The learning objective of this review is to illustrate the computed tomography angiography technique, including the potential role of dual-energy computed tomography angiography, also highlighting the tips and tricks to identify the most common and uncommon features of acute gastrointestinal bleeding and its obscure form.

The adrenal glands synthesize and release essential steroid hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone, but many aspects of human adrenal gland development are not well understood. Here, we combined single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, IHC, and micro-focus computed tomography to investigate key aspects of adrenal development in the first 20 weeks of gestation. We demonstrate rapid adrenal growth and vascularization, with more cell division in the outer definitive zone (DZ). Steroidogenic pathways favored androgen synthesis in the central fetal zone, but DZ capacity to synthesize cortisol and aldosterone developed with time. Core transcriptional regulators were identified, with localized expression of HOPX (also known as Hop homeobox/homeobox-only protein) in the DZ. Potential ligand-receptor interactions between mesenchyme and adrenal cortex were seen (e.g., RSPO3/LGR4). Growth-promoting imprinted genes were enriched in the developing cortex (e.g., IGF2, PEG3). These findings reveal aspects of human adrenal development and have clinical implications for understanding primary adrenal insufficiency and related postnatal adrenal disorders, such as adrenal tumor development, steroid disorders, and neonatal stress.

Children, women, and older people suffer different types of violence, which appears to have been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic and the relative lockdown. The aim of this study is to analyze the literature about gender violence and abuse in the different ages of life and during the COVID-19 lockdown. Data were obtained from an electronic literature search using various online sources such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and Web of Science. The terms "child abuse" were the most frequently used, followed in frequency by "gender violence," "femicide," and, lastly, "elderly abuse." The first studies considered gender-based violence as a purely physical problem, then, progressively, the analysis focused on the psychological point of view of the issue. There was a greater number of studies in 2020 about violence in comparison with previous years. The social and scientific attention to gender-based violence appeared to be very poor, especially in the case of older people abuse. It is necessary to increase general attention to the topic to correctly identify each form of abuse and to be able to take care of the subjects most at risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

La investigación se desarrolló en el área experimental de la granja Santa Inés, de la Universidad Técnica de Machala, Se seleccionaron 24 plantas de banano del Clon Williams, subgrupo Cavendish, la superficie experimental del estudio fue 300 m^2, donde se establecieron tres bloques, cada bloque fue ocupado por un tratamiento elegido al azar, cada tratamiento contó con ocho unidades experimentales con tres replicas por tratamiento; el trabajo se realizó con diez aplicaciones mensuales de enmiendas edáficas en la banda de abonado, entre ellos el T1: aplicación de 20 g powercalciovit35% + 30 g KNO3, T2: 50 g biocarbón + 30 g KNO3 y T3: 30 g KNO3. Las variables evaluadas fueron: altura de plantas, emisión foliar, peso de racimo, peso de raquis, ratio procesado, peso de la mano sol, número de manos, número de dedos en mano del sol, calibración mano del sol, calibración última mano, número de hojas a la cosecha, edad racimos y retorno. Con los datos obtenidos se realizó un análisis de varianza (ANOVA) de un factor en el software IBM SPSS STATICS 22.

Massive hemoptysis represents a distressing and life-threatening condition: 95% of cases originate from the bronchial artery system, with pulmonary arteries accounting for 6%–11% of cases. The most common etiology of hemoptysis from the pulmonary artery system is represented by pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysms (PAPs). PAPs are defined as the focal dilation of a pulmonary artery branch, involving only the adventice, with a higher risk of rupture than a true aneurysm. It constitutes a rare finding, often underdiagnosed by radiologists. However, PAPs can be life-threatening if undiagnosed due to a high mortality rate (50%). They frequently occur in patients affected by erosive inflammatory processes and necrotising infections of the lung or heart, but other etiological factors include trauma, vasculitis, neoplasia, pulmonary hypertension and Hughes–Stovin Syndrome. PAPs due to oncologic etiologies are rare. Among oncologic etiologies, the most frequent are represented by primary lung cancer rather than metastases. Today, CT angiography represents the imaging modality of choice; not only to establish diagnosis, but if performed with an appropriate timing of intravenous contrast, it also helps to plan therapy with an endovascular approach. In fact, endovascular treatment is the preferred therapeutic approach in managing hemoptysis due to PAPs, since a surgical approach is associated with a high risk of morbidity and mortality, especially in patients who are poor surgical candidates. In this article we report the case of massive hemoptysis due to an unusual giant PAP of the posterior lower branch of the right pulmonary artery, in a patient affected by pulmonary colliquated and confluent metastases, successfully treated by endovascular embolisation.

Visceral artery pseudoaneurysms (VAPAs) are extremely rare and pseudoaneurysms in the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and its branches, particularly the middle colic artery, are the rarest. These account for 6–8% of all VAPAs with an incidence of 0.01%. They can be associated with an inflammatory disease (such as pancreatitis), infection or arise as a post-surgical complication, but they can also be due to a traumatic damage to the artery caused by a full-thickness slit in the arterial wall. They can be asymptomatic or manifest with symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, local pressure symptoms (such as a pulsatile mass or a bruit) and gastrointestinal bleeding. Imaging techniques play a key role in the diagnosis of VAPAs and angiography still represents the gold standard, although nowadays it has a pivotal role for treatment with the possibility to perform an endovascular embolisation. In fact, although rare, VAPAs are of clinical importance mainly because they can cause life-threatening intra-abdominal or retroperitoneal haemorrhage and so prompt treatments are crucial, whether they are symptomatic, haemorrhagic or incidentally found. In the past, surgery was the treatment of choice, but in recent years with the improvement and development of interventional vascular techniques, surgery has been replaced by transcatheter endovascular embolisation due to its low morbidity and mortality and high success rate. In this article, we report the case of an unusual giant spontaneous pseudoaneurysm of the middle colic artery in a patient with a scoliotic abdominal aortic aneurysm successfully treated by endovascular embolisation.

Abstract Aim To describe a 3 years experience of peripheral arterial embolization with Micro Vascular Plug (MVP) (Medtronic, USA). Materials and methods The following parameters were investigated: type of vascular injury, anticoagulation therapy at time of procedure, anatomical district, caliper of the target artery, course of the landing zone, additional embolics, technical and clinical success, device related clinical complications. Technical success was defined as complete embolization without deployment of additional embolics after MVP release. Primary clinical success was considered as hemodynamic stability in emergency setting and resolution of the underlying vascular pathology in elective cases; secondary clinical success was considered clinical success after a second embolization session. Results 116 MVP have been released in 104 patients (67 males and 37 females; mean age 61.3 years). The pullback release technique was adopted in each case. 85 patients were treated in emergent settings while in 19 patients the procedure was scheduled. The overall technical success was 75%. Primary clinical success was 96.1%, secondary clinical success 3% and clinical failure 0.9%. No statistical differences in terms of effectiveness were observed among patients assuming anticoagulation (p-value = 0.6). Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) affects 1% of women and carries significant medical and psychosocial sequelae. Approximately 10% of POI has a defined genetic cause, with most implicated genes relating to biological processes involved in early fetal ovary development and function. Recently, Ythdc2, an RNA helicase and N6-methyladenosine reader, has emerged as a regulator of meiosis in mice. Here, we describe homozygous pathogenic variants in YTHDC2 in 3 women with early-onset POI from 2 families: c. 2567C>G, p.P856R in the helicase-associated (HA2) domain and c.1129G>T, p.E377*. We demonstrated that YTHDC2 is expressed in the developing human fetal ovary and is upregulated in meiotic germ cells, together with related meiosis-associated factors. The p.P856R variant resulted in a less flexible protein that likely disrupted downstream conformational kinetics of the HA2 domain, whereas the p.E377* variant truncated the helicase core. Taken together, our results reveal that YTHDC2 is a key regulator of meiosis in humans and pathogenic variants within this gene are associated with POI.

La presente investigación tiene por objetivo realizar un análisis de nivel histórico-contable de las empresas mineras pertenecientes a la provincia de El Oro, para contribuir a la toma de decisiones a nivel Gerencial, la importancia de realizar este estudio es determinar las medidas, políticas normas contables adecuadas, para realizar prácticas productivas de manera sostenible con el medio ambiente, es así que, se seleccionó un método de investigación descriptivo con enfoque cualitativo, el caso se guio con un modelo transversal, es decir, la investigación se direcciono a un periodo de tiempo específico entre el 2017-2018. De esta forma se escogió como instrumento de extracción de datos una ficha de encuesta, para ello, en base a la muestra poblacional de 237 empresas mineras, se realizó en calculo Muestral, que dio como resultado 145 encuestas a aplicar, entre los principales resultados se describe que las empresas usan políticas contables basadas en las NIIF para llevar un control de registros contables.

Abstract Background Urethrorrhagia is frequent in pelvic trauma, rarely due to traumatic injuries of internal pudendal artery branches. Case presentation Our aim is to underline the role of transarterial embolization in selected patients, as in this case in which a young man manifested urethral hemorrhage after high-energy motorcycle crash not associated with injuries of the inferior urinary tract. Multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) showed pubic symphysis diastasis and perineal hematoma with pseudoaneurysm into the penis bulb. The first approach was conservative with perineal external compression and intravenous injection of tranexamic acid. Afterward, due to the decline of clinical conditions, we decided to perform a selective angiography, confirming the vascular injury of distal branches of both internal pudendal arteries with contrast agent extravasation into urethral bulb; endovascular embolization was performed with detachable micro-coils. The principal results were seen quickly, indeed urethrorrhagia arrested and hemoglobin values normalized. Erectile function was preserved at 6-months follow-up. Conclusions Endovascular embolization proved to be a minimally invasive therapeutic approach, clinically effective, with a low rate of complications and high probability to preserve erectile function.

La COVID-19 es una enfermedad infecciosa causada por el coronavirus SARS–CoV-2, que afecta de forma más grave a personas en edades avanzadas de la vida y a pacientes con inmunodepresión y/o afecciones crónicas, como la hipertensión arterial, de gran significación en la mortalidad por enfermedades cardiovasculares y cerebrovasculares. Con este artículo se buscó actualizar los conocimientos sobre el nivel de gravedad de la COVID-19 en pacientes hipertensos y su asociación con el consumo de fármacos antihipertensivos de los grupos de los inhibidores de la enzima convertidora de la angiotensina y los antagonistas de los receptores de la angiotensina II. Asimismo, se ofrecen evidencias científicas acerca de que la hipertensión arterial es un predictor clínico de gravedad en pacientes con dicha enfermedad infecciosa, lo cual se manifiesta sobre todo en las edades mayores de 60 años, y de que la suspensión de forma preventiva de los mencionados tratamientos antihipertensivos puede conducir a inestabilidad clínica y a resultados desfavorables.

Abstract Background We report our experience in managing iatrogenic renal bleedings after nephrostomic procedures by transarterial embolization using Micro Vascular Plug (MVP) (Medtronic, USA) as single or complementary embolization device with parenchimal sparing. Materials and methods Five patients have been treated in a single center with transarterial embolization because of renal hemorrhages occurring after positioning of nephrostomic drainages. All patients presented with back pain, severe hematuria and/or bright red blood into the nephrostomic bag, with fall in hemoglobin value. After contrast enhanced CT scan confirming arterial active bleeding, rescue embolization was performed using MVP. The renal parenchimal loss was estimated on final postembolization DSA. Creatinine values were monitored before and after the procedure. Results Technical and clinical successes were obtained in all patients. Two patients presented with extraluminal blush, one with multiple pseudoaneurysms, one with pseudoaneurysm with arterovenous fistula, one with extraluminal blush with arterovenous fistula. MVP models were choosen oversized because of vasospasm that would underestimate the effective caliber of target vessel; MVP 3Q and MVP 7Q were adopted in one patient each, while MVP 5Q was released in three cases. MVP was the sole embolizing agent in four patients; in one patient, MVP was employed after microcoils failed to obtain complete embolization. The percentage of renal parenchimal lost was lower than 20%; no increase in Creatinine values was detected at dismission. Conclusions According to proposed data, MVP seems to be a safe, effective and fast embolizing device that interventionalists could consider when facing renal bleedings, even as sole agent.

Several studies were conducted previously on fuel and biofuel performance of micro-turbines. The present paper combines experimental and statistical approaches to study the vibrational behavior of a gas micro-turbine supplied with different pure fuels and admixed with rapeseed oils. Experimental tests carried out at different operating conditions have allowed us to build a classification model through using discriminant analysis. The classification model can distinguish the vibrational behavior occurring when the turbine is fueled with kerosene, or pure and admixed diesel with rapeseed oil. Moreover, the methodology has even allowed us to highlight differences in vibrational behavior caused by small amounts of rapeseed oil admixed in the fuel. The model reliability, in terms of Cohen’s kappa, results in optimal data classification.

Abstract Background Pulmonary embolism (PE) is associated to high mortality rate worldwide. However, the diagnosis of PE often results inaccurate. Many cases of PE are incorrectly diagnosed or missed and they are often associated to sudden unexpected death (SUD). In forensic practice, it is important to establish the time of thrombus formation in order to determine the precise moment of death. The autopsy remains the gold standard method for the identification of death cause allowing the determination of discrepancies between clinical and autopsy diagnoses. The aim of our study was to verify the morphological and histological criteria of fatal cases of PE and evaluate the dating of thrombus formation considering 5 ranges of time. Methods Pulmonary vessels sections were collected from January 2010 to December 2017. Sections of thrombus sampling were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The content of infiltrated cells, fibroblasts and collagen fibers were scored using a semi-quantitative three-point scale of range values. Results The 30 autopsies included 19 males (63.3%) and 11 females (36.7%) with an average age of 64.5 ± 12.3 years. The time intervals were as follows: early (≤1 h), recent (> 1 h to 24 h), recent-medium (> 24 h to 48 h), medium (> 48 h to 72 h) and old (> 72 h). In the first hour, we histologically observed the presence of platelet aggregation by immunofluorescence method for factor VIII and fibrinogen. The presence of lymphocytes has been identified from recent thrombus (> 1 h to 24 h) and the fibroblast cells were peripherally located in vascular tissue between 48 and 72 h, whereas they resulted central and copious after 72 h. Conclusions After a macroscopic observation and a good sampling traditional histology, it is important to identify the time of thrombus formation. We identified histologically a range of time in the physiopathology of the thrombus (early, recent, recent-medium, medium, old), allowing to determine the dating of thrombus formation and the exact time of death. Accessory spleens are often encountered in radiologic studies and they are not usually associated with symptoms. They could arise from autotransplantation of splenic tissue after splenic trauma or splenectomy (splenosis) [1]. In this case we describe a woman treated for splenectomy 20 years before and subsequently for adhesions, that suffered sudden left upper abdominal quadrant pain, weakness, and pale color. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed free spilling in the abdomen and venous bleeding of a big accessory spleen; thus the patient underwent transcatheter arterial embolization with coils. Due to the 2 previous surgical operations in the splenic loggia, endovascular treatment compared to “open surgery” was the best choice in this case because of determined less complications, a shorter period of hospitalization, and a reduction of health cost. Visceral artery aneurysms are very rare and aneurysms of the celiac trunk are the rarest ones: they are in most cases asymptomatic and their detection is frequently incidental. In this article we report the case of a man affected by severe abdominal pain with a huge aneurysm of the celiac trunk, first successfully treated with coil embolization, but, after 10 months, another endovascular embolization was required for deployment of the metallic coils previously released, ahead into the fund of the sac with recanalization of the aneurysm. A second endovascular treatment was performed with other coils and Amplatzer-Plug. The high risk of rupture makes treatment of such aneurysms mandatory and surgery is still considered the gold standard therapy of VAA, but, due to its high morbidity and mortality risks, in the last years, it has been widely replaced by endovascular embolization. An effective endovascular embolization requires not only the complete filling of the aneurysmal sac, but also the complete vascular exclusion of its in-flow and out-flow tracts, to reduce the risk of its anterograde or retrograde reperfusion. Objective: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of NOM (nonoperative management) in the treatment of blunt liver trauma, following a standardized treatment protocol.Methods: All the hemodynamically stable patients with computed tomography (CT) diagnosis of blunt liver trauma underwent NOM. It included strict clinical and laboratory observation, 48-72h contrast enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) or CT follow-up, a primary angioembolization in case of admission CT evidence of vascular injuries and a secondary angioembolization in presence of vascular injuries signs at follow-up CEUS.Results: 181 patients (85.4%) [55 (30.4%) women and 126 (69.6%) men, median age 39 (range 14–71)] were included. Of these, 63 patients (34.8%) had grade I, 48 patients (26.5%) grade II, 39 patients (21.5%) grade III, 21 patients (11.6%) grade IV and 10 patients (5.5%) grade V liver injuries. The overall success rate of NOM was 96.7% (175/181). There was not significant difference in the success rate between the patients with different liver injuries grade. Morbidity rate was 7.4% (13/175). Major complications (2 bilomas, 1 liver hematoma and 2 liver abscesses) were successfully treated by CEUS or CT guided drainage. Eighteen (18/181) patients (9.9%) underwent angioembolization with successful results.Conclusion: Nonoperative management of blunt liver trauma represents a safe and effective treatment for both minor and severe injuries, achieving an high success rate and an acceptable morbidity rate. The angiographic study with embolization, although required only in selected cases of vascular injuries, represents a fundamental therapeutic option in a significant percentage of patients.

It has been estimated that approximately one in seven of all global suicides is due to pesticide self-poisoning, mostly in rural areas of developing countries. Organophosphorus (OP) compounds are a group of pesticides exerting their toxicological effects through non-reversible inhibition of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Among these compounds, phorate (thimet) is one of the most dangerous compounds, the use of which is restricted in many countries. A case of intentional suicide after phorate ingestion in a 24-year-old Bengali male is described. This is the second case of suicidal ingestion of phorate reported in the forensic literature, and the first presenting complete toxicological findings.

Splenic artery pseudoaneurysm (PSA) is a contained vascular wall lesion associated with a high mortality rate, generally related to pancreatitis, trauma, malignancy, iatrogenic injury, and segmental arterial mediolysis. Computed tomography angiography allows us to visualize the vascular anatomy, differentiate a PSA from an aneurysm, and provide adequate information for endovascular/surgical treatment. The present review reports on the main state-of-the-art splenic artery PSA diagnosis, differentiating between the pros and cons of the imaging methods and about the endovascular treatment.

The employment of vehicles such as rovers equipped with automictic and robotic systems in agriculture is an emerging field. The development of suitable simulation models can aid in the design and testing of agricultural rovers before prototyping. Here, we propose a simulation test rig based on a multibody model to investigate the main issues connected with agricultural rover designs. The results of the simulations show significant differences between the two structures, especially regarding the energy savings, which is a key aspect for the applicability of a rover in field operations. The modular structure of the proposed simulation model can be easily adapted to other vehicle structures.

Detecting the ultrastructure of brain tissue in human archaeological remains is a rare event that can offer unique insights into the structure of the ancient central nervous system (CNS). Yet ancient brains reported in the literature show only poor preservation of neuronal structures. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and advanced image processing tools, we describe the direct visualization of neuronal tissue in vitrified brain and spinal cord remains which we discovered in a male victim of the AD 79 eruption in Herculaneum. We show exceptionally well preserved ancient neurons from different regions of the human CNS at unprecedented resolution. This tissue typically consists of organic matter, as detected using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. By means of a self-developed neural image processing network, we also show specific details of the neuronal nanomorphology, like the typical myelin periodicity evidenced in the brain axons. The perfect state of preservation of these structures is due to the unique process of vitrification which occurred at Herculaneum. The discovery of proteins whose genes are expressed in the different region of the human adult brain further agree with the neuronal origin of the unusual archaeological find. The conversion of human tissue into glass is the result of sudden exposure to scorching volcanic ash and the concomitant rapid drop in temperature. The eruptive-induced process of natural vitrification, locking the cellular structure of the CNS, allowed us to study possibly the best known example in archaeology of extraordinarily well-preserved human neuronal tissue from the brain and spinal cord.

Biliary leakage is a challenging complication when managing the bile duct strictures. The etiology of benign strictures of the biliary tree may have different etiologies but iatrogenic is the most common, with relevant increase after introduction of laparoscopic procedures.Interventional radiologist plays a key role, both in diagnosis and treatment of biliary strictures and leakage.We report on a case of a 39-year-old woman affected by abdominal pain and jaundice after laparoscopic cholecystectomy; jaundice was caused by surgical clipping of the common bile duct. The combined management by surgeon and interventional radiologist, consisting of removal of surgical clip and percutaneous management of biliary leakage, successfully resolved the leakage with clinical success. The increase in the number of people who choose to have medical procedures done to improve their appearance may be due to changed social and cultural factors in modern society, as well to the ease of access and affordable costs of these cosmetic treatments.

Dental treatments, as well as simple anatomical and functional repair work, can also be for aesthetic purposes. This is because the anatomical area concerned, i.e. the oral cavity, has a great power of attraction. Aesthetic treatments in general – in particular dental treatments – have been on the rise in recent years, and this has also meant an increase in claims due to patient dissatisfaction with the results obtained. Numerous laws have been introduced that emphasise the need for comprehensive prior information in order to acquire valid consent. This has resulted in the elimination of the distinction between the obligation of means and obligation of result, with achievement of the normally expected result required in any case.

Pulmonary sequestration is a congenital malformation characterized by dysplastic pulmonary tissue which receives blood supply by arterial systemic system, not in communication with tracheobronchial tree. Although it could be asymptomatic, it can also cause recurrent infections and hemoptysis, rarely massive and fatal. The conventional treatment consists in surgical resection of the pulmonary sequestration, but in the last few years endovascular embolization has been proposed as a valid therapeutic alternative. In this paper, we report the case of a 43–year-old woman affected by recurrent hemoptysis. Computed tomography angiography of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis was performed in emergency setting. Intralobar pulmonary sequestration in the lower lobe of the right lung was found. A bulky aberrant artery originating from the thoracic aorta supplied the pulmonary sequestration. The interventional radiologist performed an endovascular embolization with coils of the vascular malformation. The technical success of the procedure was confirmed by computed tomography angiography of the chest performed on the fourth day after procedure. Further examination performed 6 months later showed no complications. The patient was completely asymptomatic during follow-up. This procedure can demonstrate that arterial embolization is a valid and effective therapeutic alternative to surgical resection in the treatment of pulmonary sequestration.
