Abstract

We derive the Weyl anomaly in two dimensional space-time by considering the Dirac sea regularized some negatively counted formally bosonic extra species.In fact we calculate the trace of the energy-momentum tensor of the Dirac sea in a background gravitational field. It has to be regularized, since otherwise the Dirac sea is bottomless and thus causes divergence. The new regularization method consists in adding various massive species some of which are to be counted negative in the Dirac sea.The mass term in the Lagrangian of the regularization fields have a dependence on the background gravitational field.

Abstract

We develop the idea for a new string field theory of ours that was proposed earlier in a very rudimentary form in a talk in the Symposium of Tohwa University [1]. The main point is to describe the system of strings in the Universe by means of the images of the derivatives of the right and left mover parts of the 26-position vector on the strings w.r.t. tau. The major progress since the Tohwa-talks [1] is to imagine a discretization of the variables on which right and left movers respectively depend. We then observe that, by using only the descritized even-numbered sites, we can set the commutation rules for second quantization without any contradiction. In fact we can quantize the objects described by these even numbered images. 8. Renormalizability of Quantum Gravity near Two Dimensions

Abstract

We study the renormalizability of quantum gravity near two dimensions. Our formalism starts with the tree action which is invariant under the volume preserving diffeomorphism. We identify the BRS invariance which originates from the full diffeomorphism invariance. We study the Ward-Takahashi identities to determine the general structure of the counter terms. We prove to all orders that the counter terms can be supplied by the coupling and the wave function renormalization of the tree action. The bare action can be constructed to be the Einstein action form which ensures the full diffeomorphism invariance., Comment: 26 pages, Latex file, No figures

Abstract

We propose a new type of gauge in two-dimensional quantum gravity. We investigate pure gravity in this gauge, and find that the system reduces to quantum mechanics of loop length $l$. Furthermore, we rederive the $c\!=\!0$ string field theory which was discovered recently. Abstract

The Raman spectroscopy is used to examine s-Si films grown on SiGe buffer layers and local strain fluctuations in the top Si layer are studied with micro-Raman imaging. It is found that the strained top-Si layers with a thickness below 25nm experience coherent growth on Si(sub 1-x)Ge(sub x) buffer layers with composition x greater than 0.35.

Abstract

A 72-year-old woman was diagnosed with liver dysfunction during a medical examination. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan showed multiple nodules in the left lobe, anterior segment, andposterior segment of the liver, leading to a diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Extended left lobectomy and partial hepatectomy in the anterior and posterior segment with lymph node dissection was performed. At the time of the operation, small nodules on the peritoneum near the stomach were resected; these nodules were diagnosed as peritoneal disseminations of ICC. The histopathological diagnosis was moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma (T4N0M1, Stage IVB). Adjuvant chemotherapy with S-1 was administered for 18 months. Thirty months after the operation, multiple lung metastases were detected by using CT, and chemotherapy with gemcitabine was initiated. Thirty-six months after chemotherapy with gemcitabine, the patient is alive and at home despite her lung metastases, which grew slightly in size. Herein, we report a long-term survival case of ICC with peritoneal dissemination that was successfully treated with surgical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy.

Abstract

Antiproton-proton elastic scattering was measured at c.m.s. energies [radical][ital s] =546 and 1800 GeV in the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.025[lt][minus][ital t][lt]0.29 GeV[sup 2]. The data are well described by the exponential form [ital e][sup [ital b][ital t]] with a slope [ital b]=15.28[plus minus]0.58 (16.98[plus minus]0.25) GeV[sup [minus]2] at [radical][ital s] =546 (1800) GeV. The elastic scattering cross sections are, respectively, [sigma][sub el]=12.87[plus minus]0.30 and 19.70[plus minus]0.85 mb.

Abstract

We present a measurement of the [ital b]-quark cross section in 1.8 TeV [ital p]-[ital [bar p]] collisions recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab using muonic [ital b]-quark decays. In the central rapidity region ([vert bar][ital y][sup [ital b]][vert bar][lt]1.0), the cross section is 295[plus minus]21[plus minus]75 nb (59[plus minus]14[plus minus]15 nb) for [ital p][sub [ital T]][sup [ital b]][gt]21 GeV/[ital c] (29 GeV/[ital c]). Comparisons are made to previous measurements and next-to-leading order QCD calculations.

Abstract

The W production cross section times the branching ratio for W→lν, l=e,μ decays has been measured as a function of the associated jet multiplicity. The data have been recorded at the Collider Detector at Fermilab during the 1988-89 run. Abstract

Inclusive jet cross sections have been measured in pp collisions at s =546 and 1800 GeV, using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The ratio of jet cross sections is compared to predictions from simple scaling and O(as3) QCD.
