Abstract

Gallstone ileus is a relatively rare complication of cholelithiasis, and an uncommon cause of small bowel obstruction most commonly seen in elderly and debilitated people with associated comorbidities. Symptoms of gallstone ileus are insidious and may be vague while the delay in diagnosis results in a high mortality rate. Herein we report two cases of gallstone ileus in elderly patients with complex medical history who presented at the emergency department with abdominal pain and distension, vomiting and fluid/electrolyte disorders due to cholecysto-enteric fistula and bowel obstruction. Abstract

Introduction Post-radiation cystitis is a complication of external beam radiation therapy, for the radical treatment of pelvic malignancies as radical treatment for pelvic malignancies. Chronic, refractory, postradiation cystitis is problematic in its management, mainly when a conservative approach is preferred. Conservative methods are the first line of treatment, especially since the area has been irradiated, making surgical treatment more challenging. The objective of this systematic review is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of conservative methods for the management of post-radiation cystitis. All non-invasive methods were included in the research, in patients over 18 years of age undergoing pelvic radiation therapy. Material and methods We conducted a systematic search for comparable studies on the conservative treatment of chronic post-radiation cystitis, analysing the efficacy and safety of these techniques, based on a specific protocol. The PubMed, Scopus, and CENTRAL databases and the grey literature were searched. Risk control of the individual papers was carried out using the RoB2 and ROBINS-I tools. Results A total of 282 papers were reviewed, of which 6 were included in the review: 3 randomised clinical trials and 3 non-randomised studies. Each of these studies investigated a different treatment, using a different population as control group, so it was not possible to conduct a meta-analysis of the studies. Conclusions Although most conservative measures appear to be successful in the management of post-radiation cystitis, more studies, especially randomised clinical trials, are needed before an algorithm of conservative methods can be created. 18. Η επίδραση δύο διαφορετικών πλειομετρικών ασκήσεων στο κατακόρυφο άλμα και δυναμική ισορροπία φοιτητών ΣΕΦΑΑ

Abstract

Σκοπός της εργασίας ήταν να εξετάσει την επίδραση δύο διαφορετικών πλειομετρικών ασκήσεων στο κατακόρυφο άλμα και στη δυναμική ισορροπία σε φοιτητές ΣΕΦΑΑ. Το δείγμα αποτέλεσαν 16 φοιτητές της γυμναστικής ακαδημίας ( 8 αγόρια – 8 κορίτσια ) ηλικίας 23,50 ± 4,43 ετών, σωματικού βάρους 68,62 ± 14,86 κιλών , σωματικού αναστήματος 175,25 ± 13,61 εκατοστών. Η αξιολόγηση του κατακόρυφου άλματος έγινε με την εκτέλεση του κατακόρυφου άλματος από όρθια θέση (countermovment jump) στην πλατφόρμα Chronojump, ενώ η δυναμική ισορροπία αξιολογήθηκε μέσω του Υ Balance Test. Οι μετρήσεις αυτές πραγματοποιήθηκαν πριν και μετά την εκτέλεση της παρεμβατικής άσκησης. Την πρώτη μέρα ζητήθηκε από τους δοκιμαζόμενους να εκτελέσουν ένα δεκαπλούν πλειομετρικών αλμάτων ενώ την δεύτερη 3 σειρές των πέντε επαναλήψεων άλματα με γόνατα στο στήθος (tuck jumps). Τα αποτελέσματα της μελέτης έδειξαν ότι τα δύο πρωτόκολλα είχαν διαφορετική επίδραση στους άνδρες και στις γυναίκες, με το ποσοστό βελτίωσης στην ισορροπία να είναι υψηλότερο στους άνδρες σε σχέση με τις γυναίκες, ενώ το ποσοστό βελτίωσης των γυναικών ήταν υψηλότερα στο κατακόρυφο άλμα και στα δύο πρωτόκολλα σε σχέση με τους άνδρες.
