Access to communication is a primary challenge affecting the education of Autistic students who use augmentative and alternative communication devices. This is compounded by potential communication partners (e.g., teachers and classroom paraeducators) who have insufficient training and skills to meaningfully engage these students in communication. To address these deficits in skills and training, this feasibility study used a multiple probe across participants design to test the effects of using behavioral skills training on dyads of teachers and paraeducators in increasing teacher-delivered opportunities to respond and student communication responses. The results show that after training, teachers’ opportunities to respond and use student-specific strategies increased. Following the teachers’ implementation of the strategies, students’ prompted and unprompted communication increased. These results provide evidence that supports the use of behavioral skills training to support communication partner skill development and student communication needs. These methods showed positive social validity with participants and demonstrate a professional development method that is more feasible for use by school staff than individual training. The results of this study provide initial evidence of the effectiveness of these methods with dyads of participants as well as with licensed teachers, extending the extant research, which often focuses on the individual training of paraeducators.

Background: Every degree of change in pelvic tilt (PT) leads to a 0.7° change in anteversion and a 0.3° change in inclination. This study aimed to determine the significance of contralateral hip arthritis on changes in PT using preoperative and postoperative anteroposterior radiographs. Methods: There were 193 primary total hip arthroplasties done by 2 surgeons at a single academic tertiary referral center reviewed between September 2021 and January 2023. PT was calculated as Tilt = −(ln[(B/A) × (1/0.483)]) / 0.051. Value A is the distance from the base of the SI joint to the superior margin of the obturator foramen; value B is the height of the obturator foramen. After exclusions, contralateral hips were identified as being normal (n = 75), arthritic (n = 39) (Tönnis grade 3/4), replaced (n = 34), or having undergone simultaneous bilateral total hip arthroplasty (n = 5) on postoperative films. Difference in PT was measured between preoperative and postoperative films taken 1-3 months after surgery. Analyses for statistical significance were calculated using t-tests and one-way analysis of variance. Results: Average change in PT in patients with normal contralateral hips was −5.2° with an absolute mean difference of 7.6°, −1.5° for arthritic contralateral hips with an absolute mean difference of 5.0°, −1.6° for replaced contralateral hips with a mean absolute difference of 4.3°, and 2.2° for bilateral hips with a mean absolute difference of 2.6° (P < .01). Conclusions: Differences in postoperative PT changes between healthy, arthritic, and replaced contralateral hip study groups were significant. Changes in preoperative to postoperative tilt may have implications for optimal cup placement.

Aims: The diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) can be challenging as the symptoms are similar to other conditions, and the markers used for diagnosis have limited sensitivity and specificity. Recent research has suggested using blood cell ratios, such as platelet-to-volume ratio (PVR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), to improve diagnostic accuracy. The aim of the study was to further validate the effectiveness of PVR and PLR in diagnosing PJI. Methods: A retrospective review was conducted to assess the accuracy of different marker combinations for diagnosing chronic PJI. A total of 573 patients were included in the study, of which 124 knees and 122 hips had a diagnosis of chronic PJI. Complete blood count and synovial fluid analysis were collected. Recently published blood cell ratio cut-off points were applied to receiver operating characteristic curves for all markers and combinations. The area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were calculated. Results: The results of the analysis showed that the combination of ESR, CRP, synovial white blood cell count (Syn. WBC), and polymorphonuclear neutrophil percentage (PMN%) with PVR had the highest AUC of 0.99 for knees, with sensitivity of 97.73% and specificity of 100%. Similarly, for hips, this combination had an AUC of 0.98, sensitivity of 96.15%, and specificity of 100.00%. Conclusion: This study supports the use of PVR calculated from readily available complete blood counts, combined with established markers, to improve the accuracy in diagnosing chronic PJI in both total hip and knee arthroplasties. Background: Dexamethasone is a commonly used perioperative medication for the management of postoperative nausea and vomiting following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). However, concerns have been raised about its potential to cause hyperglycemia. This study aimed to investigate the impact of dexamethasone administration on glucose levels and complications in both diabetic and nondiabetic patients undergoing TJA. Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 1928 patients who underwent primary total knee and hip arthroplasty procedures at a large tertiary medical institution. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on whether they received preoperative dexamethasone. Postoperative blood glucose values and variability were measured, and data on complications were collected. We performed statistical analysis using descriptive analysis, multivariate logistic regression models, negative binomial regression, and a subset analysis to assess the impact of dexamethasone dose on postoperative glycemic control. Results: Preoperative dexamethasone did not significantly increase the mean glucose, fasting glucose, glucose variability, or 90-day complications in both the diabetic and nondiabetic groups. Nondiabetic patients who received dexamethasone had a significantly lower rate of intensive care unit admission (P < .01). Additionally, patients who received dexamethasone had a significantly shorter length of hospital stay compared to those who did not (P < .001). Conclusions: Preoperative dexamethasone administration is a safe and effective method for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing TJA without significant adverse effects on glucose levels, glucose variability, or infection rates in both diabetics and nondiabetics. Preoperative dexamethasone decreases postoperative length of stay.

Background: Ostomy surgery is associated with a high rate of postoperative complications and poses several theoretical concerns for subsequent total joint arthroplasty (TJA). There is concern that ostomy may negatively impact nutrition or increase risk of known gastrointestinal (GI) complications such as obstruction, constipation, or diarrhea, particularly with the use of postoperative opioids. There is also concern that the open nature of the ostomy may increase the risk of infection. This case series reports outcomes and assesses the risk associated with TJA in patients with previous surgical history of intestinal ostomy. Methods: This is an institutional review board-approved retrospective case series of patients with surgical history of ostomy who underwent total hip or total knee arthroplasty. Cohort consisted of 14 cases in 10 patients and was examined to report individual TJA and ostomy procedural details and outcomes. Results: Of the 14 cases, none required GI clearance or prophylaxis outside of standard perioperative antibiotics prior to TJA surgeries, and all TJAs resulted in good outcomes. Four cases (29%) had a complication, although only 2 of these were GI complications and none were life-threatening or required further surgery. The first of the 2 experienced increased ostomy output, and symptoms were resolved promptly with rehydration. The second experienced decreased ostomy output, and symptoms were resolved promptly with changes in prn pain medications. Other complications were postoperative urinary tract infection and syncopal episode. Conclusions: TJA can be performed safely in the setting of ostomy with major consideration being risk of diarrhea or constipation during postoperative period.

Abstract Pain is a complex and personal experience that presents diverse measurement challenges. Different sensing technologies can be used as a surrogate measure of pain to overcome these challenges. The objective of this review is to summarise and synthesise the published literature to: (a) identify relevant non-invasive physiological sensing technologies that can be used for the assessment of human pain, (b) describe the analytical tools used in artificial intelligence (AI) to decode pain data collected from sensing technologies, and (c) describe the main implications in the application of these technologies. A literature search was conducted in July 2022 to query PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Scopus. Papers published between January 2013 and July 2022 are considered. Forty-eight studies are included in this literature review. Two main sensing technologies (neurological and physiological) are identified in the literature. The sensing technologies and their modality (unimodal or multimodal) are presented. The literature provided numerous examples of how different analytical tools in AI have been applied to decode pain. This review identifies different non-invasive sensing technologies, their analytical tools, and the implications for their use. There are significant opportunities to leverage multimodal sensing and deep learning to improve accuracy of pain monitoring systems. This review also identifies the need for analyses and datasets that explore the inclusion of neural and physiological information together. Finally, challenges and opportunities for designing better systems for pain assessment are also presented.

ABSTRACTThe FAIR principles of Wilkinson et al. [1] are finding their way from research into application domains, one of which is the precise positioning with global satellite navigation systems (GNSS). Current GNSS users demand that data and services are findable online, accessible via open protocols (by both, machines and humans), interoperable with their legacy systems and reusable in various settings. Comprehensive metadata are essential in seamless communication between GNSS data and service providers and their users, and, for decades, geodetic and geospatial standards are efficiently implemented to support this. However, GNSS user community is transforming from precise positioning by highly specialised use by geodetic professionals to every-day precise positioning by autonomous vehicles or wellness obsessed citizens. Moreover, rapid technological developments allow alternative ways of offering data and services to their users. These transforming circumstances warrant a review whether metadata defined in generic geospatial and geodetic standards in use still support FAIR use of modern GNSS data and services across its novel user spectrum. This paper reports the results of current GNSS users’ requirements in various application sectors on the way data, metadata and services are provided. We engaged with GNSS stakeholders to validate our findings and to gain understanding on their perception of the FAIR principles. Our results confirm that offering FAIR GNSS data and services is fundamental, but for a confident use of these, there is a need to review the way metadata are offered to the community. Defining standard compliant GNSS community metadata profile and providing relevant metadata with data on-demand, the approach outlined in this paper, is a way to manage current GNSS users’ expectations and the way to improve FAIR GNSS data and service delivery for both humans and the machines.

Background: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a serious complication following joint replacement surgery, and its diagnosis can be challenging due to the similarity of symptoms to other conditions and the lack of confirmatory imaging tests. Platelet/mean platelet volume ratio (PVR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio, monocyte/lymphocyte ratio, and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio have been proposed as potential markers to aid in the diagnosis of PJI. This study aimed to further assess the utility of these blood cell ratio combinations for the diagnosis of PJI. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients who presented to a university hospital for evaluation for PJI or underwent aseptic revision surgery. All patients were reviewed for inclusion in the study. Data were collected on several markers, including complete blood counts, synovial fluid white blood cell count, and polymorphonuclear percentage. Receiver operator characteristic curve analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic capabilities of the markers and marker combinations. Results: The combination of erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, synovial white blood cell count, and synovial polymorphonuclear percentage, with PVR, had the highest area under the curve of 0.97, with a sensitivity of 94.3% and a specificity of 88.9%, and a positive predictive value of 97.1% and a negative predictive value of 80.0%. Conclusions: This study further supports the use of PVR calculated from complete blood count commonly ordered laboratory values obtained during routine complete blood counts when combined with established serum and synovial markers to increase the diagnostic accuracy for diagnosing PJI.

Abstract In this article, Nicholas Brown analyses the work of Hélio Oiticica from the 50s - when it was firmly related to the research conducted by the Neo-Concrete avant-garde - to the 70s and demonstrates how these works thematize in insistent ways an experiential aspect that is implicit from the beginning in the work’s literal objecthood, permanently mobilizing the dialetics between the idea and the literal support in space. The author also examines the specific configuration of the correlation between political history and the art-historical sequence regarding the Neo-Concretism. Finally, departing from the productive contradiction between thingly substrate and signifying surface in Oiticica´s work, Brown indicates how the dynamic between social-political and intellectual history is presented in the last years of his trajectory as a re-investment of the art object in odds with commodity society.

Pain assessment is a challenging task encountered by clinicians. In clinical settings, patients’ self-report is considered the gold standard in pain assessment. However, patients who are unable to self-report pain are at a higher risk of undiagnosed pain. In the present study, we explore the use of multiple sensing technologies to monitor physiological changes that can be used as a proxy for objective measurement of acute pain. Electrodermal activity (EDA), photoplethysmography (PPG), and respiration (RESP) signals were collected from 22 participants under two pain intensities (low and high) and on two different anatomical locations (forearm and hand). Three machine learning models were implemented, including support vector machines (SVM), decision trees (DT), and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) for the identification of pain. Various pain scenarios were investigated, identification of pain (no pain, pain), multiclass (no pain, low pain, high pain), and identification of pain location (forearm, hand). Reference classification results from individual sensors and from all sensors together were obtained. After feature selection, results showed that EDA was the most informative sensor in the three pain conditions, 93.2±8% in identification of pain, 68.9±10% in the multiclass problem, and 56.0±8% for the identification of pain location. These results identify EDA as the superior sensor in our experimental conditions. Future work is required to validate the obtained features to improve its feasibility in more realistic scenarios. Finally, this study proposes EDA as a candidate to design a tool that can assist clinicians in the assessment of acute pain of nonverbal patients.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many health settings that had traditionally provided placements cancelled their offerings. Telehealth services however, increased and emerged as an alternative placement setting.AimTo compare the learning experiences for allied health students provided by telehealth and face-to-face accredited health placements.MethodsHealth students, from a university clinic between March to December 2020, delivering both face-to-face and telehealth consultations, were invited to complete a telephone survey with 3 demographic questions; and 10-items comparing their telehealth and face-to-face learning experiences. Pearson’s chi-squared/Fisher’s exact test was used to examine the association between each item and consultation setting. Qualitative survey data was thematically analysed using a descriptive approach.Results49 students from 2 universities and 5 disciplines completed the survey. Even though industrial development has brought vast improvements to our daily lives, it carries with it negative effects such as adverse health outcomes caused by PM2.5 and other pollutants. The negative externalities and external costs might occur when property rights are not properly defined, which means that if no one holds a property right on the atmosphere and the quality of air, there is no appropriate mechanism to prevent a further expansion of negative effects. An economic burden of pollution related to premature morbidity and mortality in individual countries can account for 5–14% of GDP (World Bank, 2021). In 2019, the worldwide health cost of mortality and morbidity caused by exposure to PM2.5 concentration was $8.1 trillion, which is equivalent to 6.1 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP) (World Bank estimate). Policymakers require evidence-based results that clearly show the impact that air pollution has on the economy and society, in order to be able to establish the proper regulations and ensure their successful implementation. The purpose of this long term study is to provide methods for assessing the negative effects of PM2.5 concentration on PM2.5-related mortality using panel data structure and demonstrate how socio-economic factors affect this relation. This study employed advanced econometric techniques to analyse the long-term impact of PM2.5 on human health, while controlling for socio economic indicators. This study has demonstrated significant effects of socio-economic, health risk and system and governance variables on the relation between PM2.5 ​concentration and PM2.5-related mortality.

Abstract Whole-genome sequencing is likely to become increasingly used by local clinical microbiology laboratories, where sequencing volume is low compared with national reference laboratories. Here, we describe a universal protocol for simultaneous DNA extraction and sequencing of numerous different bacterial species, allowing mixed species sequence runs to meet variable laboratory demand. We assembled test panels representing 20 clinically relevant bacterial species. The DNA extraction process used the QIAamp mini DNA kit, to which different combinations of reagents were added. Thereafter, a common protocol was used for library preparation and sequencing. The addition of lysostaphin, lysozyme or buffer ATL (a tissue lysis buffer) alone did not produce sufficient DNA for library preparation across the species tested. By contrast, lysozyme plus lysostaphin produced sufficient DNA across all 20 species. DNA from 15 of 20 species could be extracted from a 24-h culture plate, while the remainder required 48–72 h. The process demonstrated 100% reproducibility. Sequencing of the resulting DNA was used to recapitulate previous findings for species, outbreak detection, antimicrobial resistance gene detection and capsular type. This single protocol for simultaneous processing and sequencing of multiple bacterial species supports low volume and rapid turnaround time by local clinical microbiology laboratories.

Introduction Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication of cancer. Pancreatic and gastro-oesophageal cancers are among malignancies that have the highest rates of VTE occurrence. VTE can increase cancer-related morbidity and mortality and disrupt cancer treatment. The risk of VTE can be managed with measures such as using anticoagulant drugs, although the risk of bleeding may be an impeding factor. Therefore, a VTE risk assessment should be performed before the start of anticoagulation in individual patients. Several prediction models have been published, but most of them have low sensitivity and unknown clinical applicability in pancreatic or gastro-oesphageal cancers. We intend to do this systematic review to identify all applicable published predictive models and compare their performance in those types of cancer.Methods and analysis All studies in which a prediction model for VTE have been developed, validated or compared using adult ambulatory patients with pancreatic or gastro-oesphageal cancers will be identified and the reported predictive performance indicators will be extracted. Full text peer-reviewed journal articles of observational or experimental studies published in English will be included. Five databases (Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science, CINAHL and Cochrane) will be searched. Two reviewers will independently undertake each of the phases of screening, data extraction and risk of bias assessment. The quality of the selected studies will be assessed using Prediction model Risk Of Bias Assessment Tool. The results from the review will be used for a narrative information synthesis, and if the same models have been validated in multiple studies, meta-analyses will be done to pool the predictive performance measures.Ethics and dissemination There is no need for ethics approval because the review will use previously peer-reviewed articles. Introduction: This study aimed to identify Klebsiella spp. bloodstream infections (KBSIs) in critically ill patients, characterising potential risk factors and targets for intervention. Methods: A retrospective analysis of blood cultures submitted to the Clinical Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory between 2015 and 2020, together with data from the Public Health England Data Capture System, was performed to identify KBSIs. Electronic patient records were reviewed for potential sources and risk factors. Results: Klebsiella spp. were the second leading cause of Gram-negative BSIs in critically ill patients, after E. coli (82 KBSIs over five years). Almost two-thirds (62.2%) were nosocomial. Median age was 64.3 years (IQR: 50.2–71.2), 62.2% were male and case fatality rate was 22%. Comorbidities included ‘Cardiovascular’ (48.8%), ‘Respiratory’ (37.8%), ‘Gastrointestinal’ (37.8%), ‘Endocrine’ (35.4%) and ‘Surgery’ (35.4%). Common sources were ‘Line’ (36.6%), ‘Urinary Tract’ (25.6%) and ‘Gastrointestinal’ (11.0%). 54.3% of sputum/BAL, 33.3% of line and 14.9% of urine cultures grew Klebsiella within 2 weeks of a KBSI. Ventilator use (76.5%) and pneumonia (51.0%) were common prior to hospital-onset KBSIs. KBSIs numbers peaked in April-June 2020, coinciding with the first wave of COVID-19. Discussion: This study presents a current overview of characteristics of KBSIs in critically ill patients. We speculate that the high rates of positive sputum/BAL and line cultures associated with nosocomial infections, signify pneumonia and subsequent line contamination as a potential cause of KBSIs. This could have important consequences in context of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the importance of intravascular catheter care in the prevention of KBSIs.

Widespread pesticide drift issues ensued from the advent of dicamba-tolerant crop systems in the late 2010s, resulting in millions of acres of damaged farmland. Farmers who suffered drift-related losses in crop yield had to seek recovery in state courts. However, state courts varied in their approaches to drift lawsuits and remedies, if awarded, could include damage awards or injunctions. To demonstrate the need for a more transparent judicial process, this paper identifies three torts commonly advanced as causes of actions in drift cases and creates theoretic-game models to evaluate each tort’s impact on farmers’ decision-making and economic outcomes.

While there has been research into what teams, leagues, and athletes post on social media and the impact of post content on social media engagement, there is limited understanding and empirical research on the impact of broadcasting media on social sport consumption. There are an increasing number of new media through which sport leagues can distribute their content to fans. This research examines the impact of different broadcast platforms on game day engagement with WNBA team Twitter accounts. Using data for the 2016–2018 seasons, results indicate athlete/team quality and performance were positively associated with post engagement, underscoring the importance of the core sport product and potentially indicating that the WNBA is developing a star-driven culture similar to the NBA. In addition, broadcasting on League Pass or local TV (for home teams) and Twitter were associated with lower post engagement suggesting we have more to learn about maximizing online engagement.

Methoxyfenozide is an insect growth regulator (IGR) commonly used in agriculture to simultaneously control pests and preserve beneficial insect populations; however, its impact on honey bees in not fully understood. We conducted field and laboratory experiments to investigate bee health in response to field-relevant concentrations of this pesticide. Significant effects were observed in honey bee colony flight activity and thermoregulation after being exposed over 9 weeks to supplemental protein patty containing methoxyfenozide. Compared to bee colonies in the control group, colonies fed pollen patty with 200 ppb methoxyfenozide (as measured by residue analysis) had: 1) a significantly reduced rate of weight loss due to forager departure in the morning; and 2) higher temperature variability during the winter. Colonies in the 100 ppb (as measured by residue analysis) treatment group had values between the 200 ppb group and control for both response variables. The dusk break point, which is the time associated with the end of forager return, differed among all treatment groups but may have been confounded with direction the hives were facing. Bee colony metrics of adult bee mass and brood surface area, and measurements of bee head weight, newly-emerged bee weight, and hypopharyngeal gland size were not significantly affected by methoxyfenozide exposure, suggesting that there may be significant effects on honey bee colony behavior and health in the field that are difficult to detect using standard methods for assessing bee colonies and individuals. The second experiment was continued into the following spring, using the same treatment groups as in the fall. Fewer differences were observed among groups in the spring than the fall, possibly because of abundant spring forage and consequent reduced treatment patty consumption. Residue analyses showed that: 1) observed methoxyfenozide concentrations in treatment patty were about 18-60% lower than the calculated concentrations; 2) no residues were observed in wax in any treatment; and 3) methoxyfenozide was detected in bee bread only in the 200 ppb treatment group, at about 1-2.5% of the observed patty concentration.

Sem dúvida, muito há que as separe, do ponto de vista ideológico, histórico, e estético. Porém as diferenças históricas são postas em relevo pela identidade metodológica; as diferenças ideológicas assumem novas valências à sua luz; e as diferenças estéticas definem as possibilidades e os limites do sentido musical em nosso próprio tempo.

Introduction: There is limited literature on the effect of computerized physician order entry(CPOE) on mortality. The objective of our study was to determine if there was a change inmortality among critically ill patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) after theimplementation of a CPOE system.Methods: This was a retrospective study of all critically ill patients in the ED during the yearbefore and the year after CPOE implementation. The primary outcome measures were mortalityin the ED, after admission, and overall. Secondary outcome measures included length of stay inthe resuscitation area of the ED, length of hospital stay, and disposition following hospitalization.Patient disposition was used as a marker for neurologic function, and patients were grouped aseither being discharged to home vs. nursing home, rehabilitation center, or a long-term healthcarefacility. We analyzed data using descriptive statistics, chi- square, and Wilcoxon rank sum tests.Results: There were 2,974 critically ill patients in the year preceding CPOE and 2,969 patientsin the year following CPOE implementation. There were no differences in mortality between thetwo groups in the ED, after admission, or overall. The pre- and post-CPOE mortality rate for theED, hospital, or overall was 2.52% vs. 2.02% (P = 0.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.3 to 1.3),7.8% versus 8.29% (P = 0.61, 95% CI -1.9 to 0.9), and 10.32% vs. 10.31% (P = .60, 95% CI -1.5to 1.6), respectively. There was no difference in hospital length of stay between pre- and post-CPOE patients (3 days versus 3 days), a difference of 0.05 days (95% CI -0.47 to 0.57). Lengthof stay in the ED resuscitation area was longer in the post-CPOE group (31 versus 32 minutes), adifference of -1.96 minutes (95% CI -3.4 to -0.53). More patients were discharged to home in thepre-CPOE group (66.8% versus 64.3%), a difference of 2.54% (95% CI 0.13% to 4.96%).Conclusion: The implementation of CPOE was not associated with a change in mortality ofcritically ill ED patients, but was associated with a decrease in proportion of patients discharged tohome after hospitalization.

Honey bees (Apis mellifera) collect and store both honey and pollen in preserved forms. Pollen storage involves the addition of honey or nectar and oral secretions to pollen granules. It is controversial whether the duration of pollen storage alters the palatability or nutritive value of the pollen storage medium. We examined how bees utilize different-aged stored pollen during an extended pollen flow. The deposition of pollen into wax cells and subsequent consumption were monitored daily on 18 brood frames from 6 colonies over an 8d observation period. Despite a greater abundance of older stored pollen cells on brood frames, bees showed a marked preference for the consumption of freshly-stored pollen. Two to four day-old pollen cell contents were significantly more likely to be consumed, while pollen cell contents more than seven days old were eaten at much lower rates. Similar experiments that controlled for cell abundance and spatial effects using cage assays yielded the same result. One day-old stored pollen was consumed approximately three times more often than 10d-old stored pollen, and two times more often than 5d-old stored pollen. These consumption preferences for freshly-stored pollen occurred despite a lack of clear developmental advantages. Young adult workers reared for 7 days on 1d-, 5d-, or 10d-old stored pollen showed no difference in body mass, stored pollen consumption, hindgut fecal material accumulation, or hypopharyngeal gland (HPG) protein titers, suggesting that different-aged pollen stores did not vary in their nutritional value to adult bees. These findings are inconsistent with the hypothesis promoting a period of microbially-mediated, "beebread maturation" that results in greater palatability or nutritive value for aged pollen stores. Rather, stored pollen that is not eaten in the first few days accumulates as excess stores preserved in a less preferred, but nutritionally-similar state.

We present a classification methodology that jointly assigns to a decision maker a best-fitting decision strategy for a set of choice data as well as a best-fitting stochastic specification of that decision strategy. Our methodology utilizes normalized maximum likelihood as a model selection criterion to compare multiple, possibly non-nested, stochastic specifications of candidate strategies. In addition to single strategy with ``error'' stochastic specifications, we consider mixture specifications, i.e., strategies comprised of a probability distribution over multiple strategies. In this way, our approach generalizes the classification framework of Broder and Schiffer (2003a). We apply our methodology to an existing dataset and find that some decision makers are best fit by a single strategy with varying levels of error, while others are best described as using a mixture specification over multiple strategies.
