Background/purpose: The integration of ChatGPT at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) aims to transform teaching and learning dynamics. This research evaluates ChatGPT's impact on student learning behaviors, exploring its potential to enhance educational outcomes while addressing ethical concerns. Materials/methods: A mixed-methods approach was used, involving 73 first and second-year students from HCMUTE selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected via electronic surveys and semi-structured interviews with 15 faculty members. Quantitative data were analyzed using IBM's SPSS, while qualitative data were thematically analyzed. Results: ChatGPT is widely adopted by students for learning and information searches, with many also finding it reliable for academic tasks such as idea generation and assignment completion. However, concerns about overreliance were noted, which may hinder independent thinking and critical evaluation skills. Issues related to academic dishonesty, reduced creativity, and ethical problems such as plagiarism and information security were also identified. Conclusion: ChatGPT significantly impacts student learning behaviors. Whilst it offers benefits in accessibility and efficiency, its integration requires a balanced approach in order to maximize benefits whilst mitigating risks. This study highlights the need for stringent policies to ensure ethical usage and to promote independent learning. Future research should focus on the long-term impacts of AI tools on educational outcomes and ethical implementation frameworks.

Abstract Bloodstream infection (BSI) poses a global health problem, with diverse organisms and rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Here, we characterized trends in BSI prevalence, AMR, and antibiotic use at a Vietnamese infectious diseases hospital from 2010 to 2020. Among 108,303 cultured blood samples, 8.8% were positive, yielding 7995 pathogens. Of 7553 BSI cases, 86.4% were community-acquired. BSI prevalence varied from 17 to 35 cases/1000 admissions/year, highest in HIV/hepatitis wards and patients >60. The in-hospital mortality or hospice discharge outcome was 21.3%. The top three pathogens, E. coli (24%), K. pneumoniae (8.7%) and S. aureus (8.5%) exhibited increasing prevalence and multidrug resistance. Pathogens like Cryptococcus neoformans (8.4%), Talaromyces marneffei (6.7%), and Salmonella enterica (6.5%) declined. E. coli and K. pneumoniae were prevalent in older adults with community-acquired BSIs. Antibiotic use reached 842.6 DOT/1000 PD and significantly reduced after an antibiotic control policy. Enhanced surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship are crucial for managing BSIs in Vietnam.

Contamination by heavy metals in coastal and marine environments is an increasingly serious threat to both marine ecosystems and humans. The numerous marine cultivation and industrial zones along the coast of Khanh Hoa may influence the heavy metal contamination in the seawater and marine sediments. In this study, 36 seawater and 36 marine sediment samples were collected along the coast of Khanh Hoa to evaluate the levels of eight heavy metal elements. The results indicated that heavy metal concentrations in the surface seawater at Khanh Hoa were much lower than the national technical regulatory limits. The comprehensive pollution index of the heavy metals averaged less than 1. Therefore, heavy metal pollution in the seawater along the coast of Khanh Hoa is slight. Among the eight heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) analyzed in the sediments, Cu concentration in the sediment at Cam Ranh Bay is much higher than the national technical regulatory limit. Ecological risk assessment of the sediments also indicated a possible combined biological effect of Cu, Pb, and Zn at Cam Ranh. Therefore, heavy metals in the marine environment at Khanh Hoa should be monitored yearly. Decision-makers should consider the Cu content in seafood because bioaccumulation of heavy metals may occur in marine organisms.

Background and Aims:. This study assesses the attitudes of healthcare practitioners toward Living Donation Prior to Planned Withdrawal of Care (LD-PPW): the recovery of a living donor organ before withdrawal of life-sustaining measures in a patient who does not meet criteria for brain death, but for whom medical care toward meaningful recovery is deemed futile. Methods:. An electronic survey was administered to 1735 members of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons mailing list with 187 responses (10.8%). Results:. Data from this study revealed that 70% of responding practitioners agreed with LD-PPW due to principles of beneficence and autonomy. Also, 65% of participants felt confident in their ability to declare the futility of care and 70% felt that LD-PPW should be added as an option when registering to become an organ donor. Conclusion:. Currently, nearly half of all donation after circulatory determination of death do not proceed to donation. LD-PPW has been proposed as an alternative procedure targeted at increasing the quality and quantity of transplantable organs while respecting the donor’s right to donate, though its implementation has been hindered by concerns over public and provider perception. This study revealed support for LD-PPW among healthcare practitioners as an alternative procedure to increase the quality and quantity of transplantable organs while respecting the donor’s right to donate.

The study was carried out with the goal of synthesizing composite bead of cellulose, chitosan functionalized by sodium alginate using as an efficient and applicable adsorbent for methylene blue removal. Fabricating parameters of the material synthesis process like cellulose mass, sodium hydroxide concentration, immersing time and sodium alginate concentration were assessed in detail. The dye adsorption performance in water under the influence of pH, contact time, dye initial concentration, the material mass, shaking speed, temperature was also thoroughly evaluated. The results of advanced analyses showed that the beads were successfully synthesized with a rough surface and mesoporous structure. The adsorption isotherm and adsorption kinetics of dye adsorption process exhibited that the process was consistent with the Freundlich adsorption isotherm and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, indicating a favorable physical adsorption process with multilayer of the dye on the adsorbent surface. The intra-particle diffusion model showed the strong dye adsorption by the beads occurred during the first two and half hours. The adsorbent could maintain its adsorption performance of 86 % for three times of regeneration. Finally, this study provided a recyclable and effective adsorbent for dyes separation from water.

In recent times, the continuous growth of construction and demolition (C&D) activities have resulted in increases in the utilization of natural resources as well as global C&D waste production. A major part of C&D waste produced is dumped in landfills worldwide although some countries have adopted good recycling and reuse facilities to generated C&D waste. Based on an extensive critical review of published literature on the topic including global C&D waste recycling statistics and composition of generated wastes, this paper identifies key physical, mechanical, and geotechnical characteristics of recycled C&D waste aggregates specific to use as pavement base or subbase materials. Recycled aggregates typically have sufficient CBR, abrasion resistance, compressive strength and resilient modulus in accordance with various road standard specifications, which enable their applications for pavement base and subbase layer construction. Recycled aggregates typically have higher water absorption and lower specific gravity values than virgin aggregates. Furthermore, this study evaluates the feasibility and effectiveness of recycled aggregates in pavement base and subbase layers based on the detailed laboratory investigations. Additionally, case studies involving large-volume utilization of recycled aggregates for field-scale pavement construction are presented facilitating the broader adoption of recycled materials in sustainable construction of road pavements. These studies document crucial insights into its real field performance in terms of strength, durability and longevity. Finally, authors have discussed the potential challenges, research gaps and future insights on the use of recycled aggregates in pavement construction. The use of recycled aggregates in pavement construction still has some barriers and challenges such as availability in bulk quantity especially at the field scale and absence of road standards for application, which require further research and practical developments to promote the sustainable use of these materials in the future.

Understanding the role that settlement can have on the base resistance of piles is a crucial matter in the design and safety control of deep foundations under various buildings and infrastructure, especially for long to super-long piles (60–90 m length) in soft soil. This paper presents a novel assessment of this issue by applying explainable machine learning (ML) techniques to a robust database (1131 datapoints) of fully instrumented pile tests across 37 real-life projects in the Mekong Delta. The analysis of data based on conventional methods shows distinct responses of long piles to rising settlement, as compared to short piles. The base resistance can rapidly develop at a small settlement threshold (0.015–0.03% of pile’s length) and contribute up to 50–55% of the total bearing capacity in short piles, but it slowly rises over a wide range of settlement to only 20–25% in long piles due to considerable loss of settlement impact over the depth. Furthermore, by leveraging the advantages of ML methods, the results significantly enhance our understanding of the settlement–base resistance relationship through explainable computations. The ML-based prediction method is compared with popular practice codes for pile foundations, further attesting to the high accuracy and reliability of the newly established model.

Microbial fermentation is crucial to the development of flavors in cacao-based products, but how the abiotic environment and pod surface microbiomes can contribute to these different sensory profiles is underdeveloped. To better understand the connections between environment, plant variety, associated pod phyllosphere microbiomes, and the fermentation microbiome, we characterized the fungi and bacteria on pod surfaces and early fermentations of two cacao varieties across wet and dry sites on the island of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i. We showed that site (and the environmental conditions linked to those sites) significantly influenced the microbiomes of both the pod phyllosphere and fermentations but did not significantly explain the differences between cacao varieties. Certain taxa of bacteria and fungi seemingly prefer the wet Kualoa Ranch site compared with the drier Urban Garden Center Site. Rare members of the pod phyllosphere communities became highly enriched during fermentation, where basidiomycetous yeasts (Filobasidium sp., Hannaella zeae, Rhodotorula mucilaginosa, R. paludigena, and Sporobolomyces carnicolor) became dominant at the wet site, and both ascomycetous and basidiomycetous yeasts (Hyphopichia burtonii, Meyerozyma sp., Yamadazyma phyllophila, Filobasidium sp., Kwoniella heveanensis, R. mucilaginosa, Sporobolomyces sp., and S. carnicolor) became dominant at the dry site. The agricultural production site where cacao plants are grown should be considered carefully because it is likely important in structuring microbes that are present on pod surfaces and the microbes (mostly yeasts) that will be carried forward into fermentation. Abstract Evidence is strong for adverse fetal effects of high level or chronic prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE), but many pregnant women continue to drink at lower levels. The ‘Asking Questions about Alcohol in pregnancy’ prospective cohort aimed to determine the neurodevelopmental consequences at 6–8 years of age of low to moderate PAE. 1570 women from seven public antenatal clinics in Melbourne, Australia, provided information on frequency and quantity of alcohol use, and obstetric, lifestyle and socio-environmental confounders at four gestation timepoints. PAE was classified into five trajectories plus controls. At 6–8 years, 802 of 1342 eligible families took part and completed a questionnaire (60%) and 696 children completed neuropsychological assessments (52%). Multiple linear regressions examined mean outcome differences between groups using complete case and multiple imputation models. No meaningful relationships were found between any of the PAE trajectories and general cognition, academic skills, motor functioning, behaviour, social skills, social communication, and executive function. Maternal education most strongly influenced general cognition and academic skills. Parenting behaviours and financial situation were associated with academic skills, behaviour, social skills and/or executive function. The lack of association between PAE and neurodevelopment at 6–8 years may partly be explained by cumulative positive effects of socio-environmental factors.

Information on microplastic pollution in lentic systems is scarce in many Asian countries, including Vietnam. This study investigated the status and characteristics of microplastic pollution in seven urban lakes in Da Nang City, Vietnam. The two surveys were conducted during the dry and wet seasons. The results showed that microplastic concentrations in the surface waters ranged from 293.3 ± 23.1–6510.0 ± 380.4 and 366.7 ± 23.1–1143.3 ± 110.2 items m−3 during the dry and wet seasons, respectively, which is considered a moderate microplastic abundance level in lakes globally. Abstract Ultraviolet resistance upon four different types of weft knitted fabrics including Lacoste, Single Jersey, Rib and Interlock were experimentally measured and evaluated by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy under effects of gauge, specific weight, fiber composition and finishing agent as benzotriazole derivatives. The results showed that ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of Interlock sample reached the highest value at 42.7. Simultaneously, the higher gauge of Single Jersey knitted fabrics was, the better its ultraviolet protection exhibited. Also, insertion of polyester fibers or spandex fibers into cotton knitted fabrics with a certain ratio strongly increased UPF values. Notably, all UPFs of coated fabrics with a given content of benzotriazole were significantly improved and almost coated samples could undergo several washing cycles and still retain their inherent breathability. This work demonstrated that cotton knitted fabrics coated with benzotriazoles were excellently enhanced ultraviolet protection. Especially, the UPF values on Interlock or Rib specimens as well as Single Jersey samples blended with polyester/spandex fibers were found to be higher than 15.

Flood prediction is an important task, which helps local decision-makers in taking effective measures to reduce damage to the people and economy. Currently, most studies use machine learning to predict flooding in a given region; however, the extrapolation problem is considered a major challenge when using these techniques and is rarely studied. Therefore, this study will focus on an approach to resolve the extrapolation problem in flood depth prediction by integrating machine learning (XGBoost, Extra-Trees (EXT), CatBoost (CB), and light gradient boost machines (LightGBM)) and hydraulic modeling under MIKE FLOOD. The results show that the hydraulic model worked well in providing the flood depth data needed to build the machine learning model. Among the four proposed machine learning models, XGBoost was found to be the best at solving the extrapolation problem in the estimation of flood depth, followed by EXT, CB, and LightGBM. Quang Binh province was hit by floods with depths ranging from 0 to 3.2 m. Areas with high flood depths are concentrated along and downstream of the two major rivers (Gianh and Nhat Le – Kien Giang). HIGHLIGHTS Machine learning and hydrodynamic modeling are used to solve the extrapolation problem.; Model performance was evaluated using root-mean-square error, coefficient of determination (R2), and mean absolute error.; Developed models achieved a high accuracy to solve the extrapolation problem.;

Background: The effects of low-moderate prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) on brain development have been infrequently studied. Aim: To compare cortical and white matter structure between children aged 6 to 8 years with low-moderate PAE in trimester 1 only, low-moderate PAE throughout gestation, or no PAE. Methods: Women reported quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption before and during pregnancy. Magnetic resonance imaging was undertaken for 143 children aged 6 to 8 years with PAE during trimester 1 only (n = 44), PAE throughout gestation (n = 58), and no PAE (n = 41). T1-weighted images were processed using FreeSurfer, obtaining brain volume, area, and thickness of 34 cortical regions per hemisphere. Fibre density (FD), fibre cross-section (FC) and fibre density and cross-section (FDC) metrics were computed for diffusion images. Brain measures were compared between PAE groups adjusted for age and sex, then additionally for intracranial volume. Abstract Background Cancers of the head and neck region are often characterized by locally advanced, non-metastatic disease. Standard treatments for advanced cervico-facial cancers of the skin or primary head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) include combinations of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, which are associated with high rates of acute toxicity and complications. Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) has been shown to be a promising modality of treatment for this patient population in retrospective studies; to our knowledge, there are no prospective clinical studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of SBRT in these patients. Methods This phase 2, single institution, single arm study aims to evaluate response rates to SBRT in older age patients with locally advanced HNSCC for whom primary surgery is not recommended or performed. The intervention is SBRT 45 Gy in 5 fractions given every 3–4 days. Toxicity, quality of life and patient outcomes will be recorded regularly up to 24 months after completion of SBRT. Discussion For this patient population, SBRT may offer a shorter and more effective treatment than the current standard of care palliative regimens. If the study demonstrates that SBRT is safe and effective, then this may lead to randomized studies comparing conventional radiotherapy to SBRT for selected head and neck cancer patients. The production of highly efficient and reusable adsorbents that can be used in pigment treatment has been of great scientific interest. Metallic organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered a new type of material with extremely diverse structures and can be used as adsorbents to remove environmental pollutants. The selected Co/Fe-MOF material was synthesized in this study by using the solvent-thermal method. Then, the effects of several influencing factors such as adsorbent dosage, pH, initial concentration of MO, and exposure time on the adsorption capacity of methyl orange (MO) dyes by Co/Fe-MOF were evaluated. Under acidic conditions (pH 4), the effective removal of MO from aqueous solution reached equilibrium after 60 min upon exposure to MO at the concentration of 200 mg/L, and the adsorption capacity was 137.6 mg/g. The two models of adsorption isotherms, Freundlich and Langmuir, showed good compatibility with the experimental data, and the calculated correlation coefficients (R2) were both greater than 0.96. The MO adsorption efficiency was proposed to fit the pseudo-quadratic and pseudo-first-order kinetic models. Therefore, MOF materials can be considered as a potential agent for wastewater treatment, thereby providing a possible solution to solve water pollution.

Abstract Manufacture of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)‐T cells usually involves the use of viral delivery systems to achieve high transgene expression. However, it can be costly and may result in random integration of the CAR into the genome, creating several disadvantages including variation in transgene expression, functional gene silencing and potential oncogenic transformation. Here, we optimized the method of nonviral, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing using large donor DNA delivery, knocked‐in an anti‐tumor single chain variable fragment (scFv) into the N‐terminus of CD3ε and efficiently generated fusion protein (FP) T cells. These cells displayed FP integration within the TCR/CD3 complex, lower variability in gene expression compared to CAR‐T cells and good cell expansion after transfection. CD3ε FP T cells were predominantly CD8+ effector memory T cells, and exhibited anti‐tumor activity in vitro and in vivo. Dual targeting FP T cells were also generated through the incorporation of scFvs into other CD3 subunits and CD28. Compared to viral‐based methods, this method serves as an alternative and versatile way of generating T cells with tumor‐targeting receptors for cancer immunotherapy.

This research investigates parent-adolescent conflicts from the viewpoint of Vietnamese adolescents. Employing a mixed-method approach, the study conducted in-depth interviews and a questionnaire survey with 706 high-school students. The findings highlight that conflicts between Vietnamese parents and adolescents commonly arise regarding internet usage for entertainment and academic purposes. Furthermore, adolescents reported having more conflicts with their mothers than with their fathers. Although instances of parental aggression were identified, most adolescents perceived their parents’ conflict resolution as supportive. However, Vietnamese adolescents tended to display passive behavioral responses during conflicts. The research also identified certain emotional responses as warning signs of mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts, among some adolescents. Moreover, a higher frequency of conflicts with parents was significantly associated with increased peer connections. The study emphasizes the importance of professionals, such as school social workers or counselors, prioritizing the understanding of parent–child conflicts’ impact on adolescents’ emotions and mental health. Additionally, it underscores the significance of examining parenting patterns and parent–child communication within contemporary Vietnamese families.

A passive wireless sensor system integrated with capacitive fluidic flow detection is proposed and developed based on the printed circuit board (PCB) technique. The capacitive sensing structure consists of PCB-based electrodes enclosing an insulating pipe that contains the fluidic flow of interest. The conductivity of the fluidic flow and the appearance of foreign objects within the flow can be determined by analysing the resonant frequency of the detection path in the proposed system. Experimental results demonstrate that the resonant frequency increases according to the increase in electrical conductivity of the fluidic flow. In addition, the sensing performance is also confirmed by the detection of sizes and electrical conductivities of NaCl droplets passing through the detection zone. Furthermore, this work indirectly verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the integration of passive wireless sensing technique into the fluidic flow detector by using the PCB fabrication technique and demonstrates great potential for use in various applications in biomedical and chemical fields, especially in biomedical applications.

This study aims to examine the impact of brand image on public university links in the context of autonomy in Vietnam. Using quantitative research methods through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the survey data included 631 samples of managers, experts, and scientists at public universities divided by different disciplines. The results of the study showed that the brand image has both a direct and indirect impact on public university links in the context of autonomy through intermediate elements of trust and commitment in the relationship between universities. In addition, trust has also been shown to have a direct impact on commitment in the relationship between public universities in Vietnam in the context of autonomy. In the context of research in Vietnam, the findings of this study have shown both theoretical and practical contributions and will be an important basis for further research.

Background Despite its popularity, Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Service Survey (MBI-HSS)’s factorial structure has been subject to considerable debate, and its measurement invariance (MI) is seldomly examined. This cross-sectional study aims at reassessing the most popularly suggested structures of this instrument, namely the 20- and 22-item three-factor model on Vietnamese healthcare professionals. It also examines the MI of MBI-HSS across genders, occupations, and mental health conditions. Method Self-administered questionnaires were sent out to 1500 doctors and nurses working at 15 hospitals in big cities in Vietnam in September and October 2020, and 1162 valid questionnaires were collected. The questionnaire consists of three sets of questions covering (1) demographic information of participants; (2) MBI-HSS questionnaire; and (3) The 21-item version of the Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale. MBI-HSS scale was validated on Vietnamese sample for the first time; therefore, we used the repeated forward–backward procedure to translate this scale into Vietnamese. To examine which model best fits the data, a series of Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test the model fit of correlated three-factor model, second-order hierarchical model, and bi-factor model. The reliability of the MBI-HSS was assessed using Cronbach’s α coefficients. Then, multiple-group CFA (MGCFA) was applied to determine whether the MBI-HSS has a similar structure between groups different in gender, occupation, and mental health condition. Results Our findings confirmed that the 22-item MBI-HSS best fit the data, and this scale measures three distinct but related aspects of burnout, including Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, and Personal Accomplishment. The MI of MBI-HSS across genders and occupations was also confirmed. However, data did not fit well with group at risk for common mental health disorders. It can be concluded that the Vietnamese version of MBI-HSS is a valid measure to assess burnout level of healthcare professionals in Vietnam who are not at risk for mental health disorders.

Anthocyanins are abundant phytochemicals in nature that draw the public interest not only in their health effects, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. It also showed their function in providing foodstuffs with appealing and distinctive color. In this study, anthocyanins from hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) calyces were microencapsulated by spray drying and freeze drying techniques using a wide variety of carriers including maltodextrin (MD), gum Arabic (GA) and their binary blends with inulin (INU) and konjac glucomannan (KON). The results showed that freeze-dried hibiscus powder using KON as carrier had the highest phenolic, anthocyanin and antioxidant activity, followed by spray-dried and freeze-dried MD/KON samples, which indicated the role of KON in the effective retention of antioxidants during the drying process. In addition, the ferric and cupric ion reduction activity (FRAP and CUPRAC) of the spray-dried samples was significantly higher than those of the freeze-dried powder. However, in terms of encapsulation efficiency (EE) of anthocyanins, KON was shown to be ineffective in entrapping these compounds in microcapsules with the lowest EE of freeze-dried KON and spray-dried MD/KON of 43.6% and 55.4%, respectively. By contrast, MD/GA was the most effective carrier, retaining anthocyanins inside the carrier matrix and limiting their loss to the surface of the microcapsules in both spray-drying and freeze-drying methods (EE of 91.8% and 95.7%, respectively). In addition, the moisture content of spray-dried powder samples was significantly higher than that of lyophilized powders, and the solubility of all samples was above 94.1%.

SARS-CoV-2 reinfection rate is low. The relative severity of the first and second episodes of infection remains poorly studied. In this study, we aimed at assessing the frequency of SARS-CoV-2 reinfections and comparing the severity of the first and second episodes of infection. We retrospectively included patients with SARS-CoV-2 positive RT-PCR at least 90 days after clinical recovery from a COVID-19 episode and with at least one negative RT-PCR after the first infection. Whole genome sequencing and variant-specific RT-PCR were performed and clinical symptoms and severity of infection were retrospectively documented from medical files. A total of 209 COVID-19 reinfected patients were identified, accounting for 0.4% of positive cases diagnosed from 19 March 2020 to 24 August 2021. Serology was performed in 64 patients, of whom 39 (60.1%) had antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 when sampled at the early stage of their second infection. Only seven patients (3.4%) were infected twice with the same variant. We observed no differences in clinical presentation, hospitalization rate, and transfer to ICU when comparing the two episodes of infections. Our results suggest that the severity of the second episode of COVID-19 is in the same range as that of the first infection, including patients with antibodies.
