Khảo sát sự hiện diện vi khuẩn Staphylococcus spp. trên chó viêm da được thực hiện tại một số phòng khám ở thành phố Hồ Chí Minh thông qua phương pháp kiểm tra lâm sàng, phân lập vi khuẩn và định danh bằng kỹ thuật PCR. Tổng số 96 mẫu swab da được thu thập và định danh vi khuẩn Staphylococcus ở những chó có biểu hiện bệnh viêm da cho thấy tỷ lệ hiện diện Staphylococcus spp. là 84,4%. Tỷ lệ phát hiện Staphylococcus spp. ở chó nuôi thả và kết hợp giữa nuôi thả với nuôi nhốt (94,7%) cao hơn chó nuôi nhốt (69,2%); tỷ lệ phát hiện chó dưới một năm tuổi nhiễm Staphylococcus spp. (62,5%) thấp hơn chó trên 5 năm tuổi (96,7%). Ngoài ra, trong số 105 chủng Staphylococcus phân lập, vi khuẩn Staphylococcus spp. thuộc nhóm dương tính coagulase (80,0%) hiện diện với tỷ lệ cao hơn các loài Staphylococcus spp. thuộc nhóm âm tính coagulase (20,0%). Kết quả định danh vi khuẩn bằng phương pháp PCR cho thấy đã xác định được 4 loài Staphylococcus là S. aureus, S. pseudintermedius, S. epidermidis và S. schleiferi. Trong đó, S. pseudintermedius chiếm tỷ lệ cao nhất (49,5%).

The study aimed to evaluate the effect of the earthworm hydrolysate, including in a complete feed-based diet on laying performance, quality of commercial eggs, and economic return of Cherry Valley (CV) laying ducks at the late phase of reproduction. A total of 100 laying ducks at 48 weeks of age were randomly allocated to 2 dietary treatments, namely CTL (control, in which animals were fed a complete feed and EXP (experiment, in which ducks were fed complete feed and 100 mL of the earworm hydrolysate) and 5 replicates. Animals were kept in the net cage with an earth floor and 10 animals/cage. The results showed that laying rate, number of eggs per week, and egg weight were higher in the EXP than in the CTL, and lower feed consumed per 10 eggs in the EXP than in the CTL (P≤0.05); egg shape index, york percentage, Haugh unit, and shell thickness were higher in the EXP than in the CTL (P≤0.05). On the other hand, the profit was higher in EXP than in CTL. In conclusion, the inclusion of earthworm hydrolysate in a complete feed-based diet improved laying performance, egg quality, and economic return of CV laying ducks at the late phase of reproduction. The ducks fed earthworm hydrolysate diet had higher 4.7% laying rate, higher 6.1% selected egg rate for hatchery and 17% more profit than those fed control diet.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of urolithiasis, analyze the chemical composition and anatomical location of the stone, and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments in dogs and cats. The investigation lasted one year in 7 Veterinary Clinics in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City. Results show that urolithiasis accounted for 37.1% of total cases of dogs and cats, and that cats are more sensitive to urolithiasis than dogs (44.93% vs 27.90% of total population). Some risk factors such as sex, type of food and levels of drinking water affect urolithiasis rate, in which male animals and low levels of drinking water are more sensitive to urolithiasis than females and adequate levels. Lower urinary stones are common in dogs (74.05% of cases) and in cats (88.00% of cases). Struvite stones in dogs (62.00% of cases) and calcium oxalate in cats (56.00% of cases) are the most common type of urinary stones. Medical treatment is the most effective method to treat urolithiasis in cats and dogs.

A trial was conducted with 210 Luong Phuong cockerels to investigate the digestibility of dry matter, protein, fat, fiber, minerals, nitrogen-free extract, and metabolizable energy value of IR50404 paddy rice and brown rice in the diet. Cockerels, averaging 558 g/bird, had their ceca removed and were randomly assigned to metabolic cages, with 3 dietary treatments and 5 replicates. The diets included: a basal diet; and two experimental diets containing 20% paddy rice and 60% brown rice in the basal diet. The trial lasted 7 days, in which a 4-day adaptation and a 3-day collection. Digestibility of individual paddy rice and brown rice in the experimental diets was calculated by difference method. Results indicated that digestibility of dry matter (range 72.8-74.11%), neutral detergent fiber (64.94-69.83%) and total ash (60.23-62.54%) were not different between paddy and brown rice (P>0.05); however, the digestibility of organic matter (87.52% vs 77.55%), crude protein (79.63% vs 72.31%), ether extract (79.74% vs 64.77%) and nitrogen-free extractives (46.42% vs 35.47%) in paddy rice were lower than those in brown rice (P

Staphylococci are one of the most commonly found opportunistic bacteria in animals and human. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Staphylococcus spp. isolated from healthy and sick dogs visiting veterinary clinics in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam from January 2022 to December 2022. A total of 123 nasal swab samples were collected, including 40 samples from healthy dogs and 83 samples from dogs with respiratory symptoms. Staphylococcus spp. were isolated from 47.5% of healthy animals and 60.24% of dogs showing respiratory symptoms. The study showed that isolation rates from confined, semi-confined and free-ranging dogs were 75.86%, 54.84% and 40.63%, respectively. Furthermore, the prevalence was higher in dogs over one year old compared to younger dogs (64.10% and 42.22%, respectively). Several subspecies of Staphylococci, including S. aureus, S. pseudintermedius and S. epidermidis were identified, in which S. pseudintermedius accounted for the highest proportion (48.28%). The prevalence of S. pseudintermedius also varied across different age groups. Coagulase activity of the isolated Staphylococcus strains was also determined and indicated that coagulase-positive Staphylococci constituted 80.46% of the isolates. This study represents the first report on the prevalence of Staphylococci in dogs in Vietnam and reemphasizes the zoonotic significance of Staphylococcus at the interface between dogs and humans.

This paper analysis the magnetic features including flux linkage and air-gap flux density in interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) with delta-shaped PM used for electric vehicles (EVs). Research motor models are based on the motor of Nissan Leaf called EM61 taken from experiment reports, and the analysis is based on finite element analysis (FEA). The analysis is performed by adjusting the existence of permanent magnets (PMs) and flux barriers (FBs) as well as the amplitude and phase angle of excitation current which affect the torque production, phase flux linkage, and air-gap flux density under two temperature conditions. Through this analysis, the influence of each object, its position (i.e., the inner and outer layer of PM and FB), and PM-FB interaction on the magnetic features of IPMSM are expressed. The role of these PM-FBs on magnetic features also helps to point out some indications for engineers when designing an IPMSM.

Whole-genome sequencing and genome mining are recently considered an efficient approach to shine more light on the underlying secondary metabolites of Streptomyces. The present study unearths the biosynthetic potential of endophytic SX6 as a promising source of biologically active substances and plant-derived compounds for the first time. Out of 38 isolates associated with Aegiceras corniculatum (L.) Blanco, Streptomyces parvulus SX6 was highly active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC® 9027™ and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE) ATCC® 35984™. Additionally, S. parvulus SX6 culture extract showed strong cytotoxicity against Hep3B, MCF-7, and A549 cell lines at a concentration of 30 μg/ml, but not in non-cancerous HEK-293 cells. The genome contained 7.69 Mb in size with an average G + C content of 72.8% and consisted of 6,779 protein-coding genes. AntiSMASH analysis resulted in the identification of 29 biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) for secondary metabolites. Among them, 4 BGCs showed low similarity (28–67% of genes show similarity) to actinomycin, streptovaricin, and polyoxypeptin gene clusters, possibly attributed to antibacterial and anticancer activities observed. In addition, the complete biosynthetic pathways of plant-derived compounds, including daidzein and genistein were identified using genome mining and HPLC-DAD-MS analysis. These findings portray an exciting avenue for future characterization of promising secondary metabolites from mangrove endophytic S. parvulus.

Preterm infants are more susceptible to severe bacterial and viral infectious diseases than their full-term counterparts. A major contributor to this increased susceptibility may be due to differences in their ability to respond to pathogens. While studies have demonstrated altered bacterial Toll-like receptor (TLR) responses, there is limited data on viral TLR responses in preterm infants. In this study, cord blood mononuclear cells (CBMCs) from 10 moderately preterm (30.4–34.1 wGA), 10 term (37–39.5 wGA) infants, and 5 adults were stimulated with TLR2 (lipoteichoic acid), TLR3 (poly I:C), TLR4 (lipopolysaccharide), TLR7/8 (R848), and TLR9 (CpG-ODN 2216) agonists. Following stimulation, the cellular response was measured by intracellular flow cytometry to detect cell-specific NF-κB (as a marker of the inflammatory response), and multiplex assays were used to measure the cytokine response. This study found that preterm and term infants exhibit very similar baseline TLR expression. In response to both bacterial and viral TLR agonists comparing cell-specific NF-κB activation, preterm infants exhibited increased monocyte activation following LTA stimulation; however, no other differences were observed. Similarly, no difference in cytokine response was observed following stimulation with TLRs. However, a stronger correlation between NF-κB activation and cytokine responses was observed in term infants following poly I:C and R848 stimulation compared to preterm infants. In contrast, despite similar TLR expression, adults produced higher levels of IFN-α following R848 stimulation compared to preterm and term infants. These findings suggest preterm and term infants have a similar capacity to respond to both bacterial and viral TLR agonists. As preterm infants are more likely to develop severe infections, further research is required to determine the immunological factors that may be driving this and develop better interventions for this highly vulnerable group.

Two studies were conducted to determine the impact of an absorption enhancer containing a combination of lysophospholipids, monoglycerides and synthetic emulsifiers (LEX) on apparent ileal digestibility, metabolizable energy (ME), and growth performance of growing pigs. In the digestibility study, 12 male crossbred [Duroc x (Large White x Landrace)] pigs with an initial body weight (BW) of 30 kg were randomly allocated to two dietary treatments: (1) a positive control (PC) receiving standard diets formulated to 3100 kcal ME/kg, and (2) a negative control formulated with −100 kcal ME/kg and −2.5% AA content vs. PC and supplemented with LEX at 500 g/t. Apparent ileal digestibility of essential AA was significantly increased for lysine, methionine, threonine, histidine, isoleucine and phenylalanine in the LEX treatment (p < 0.05). Average uplift in AA digestibility as a percent of the PC was +1.88%; with greatest improvement for histidine (+4.22%). LEX supplementation effectively compensated energy deficiency of low-density diet and provided additional ME improvement compared to the PC diet (p < 0.05). A second study was conducted to evaluate LEX dose response on the growth performance of pigs fed a low nutrient density diet. Total 450 cross-bred pigs (240 males (castrated) and 210 females) [Duroc x (Large White x Landrace)] with an average initial BW of 7.19 kg were randomly allocated into 4 dietary treatments: (1) a positive control (PC) formulated with standard specifications, (2) a negative control formulated with −100 kcal ME/kg and −2.5% AA content vs. the PC (NC), (3) NC + LEX at 250 g/t (NC + 250) and (4) NC + LEX at 500 g/t (NC + 500). Results showed significant improvement with LEX supplementation on the final BW, average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of pigs of >50 kg body weight. Across the study, NC + 500 significantly increased ADG vs. PC and NC, and significantly reduced FCR compared to all other treatments. FCR of negative control diets improved by 9 and 15 points with the supplementation of 250 g/t and 500 g/t of LEX, respectively (p < 0.05). FCR in the NC + 250 diet was statistically similar vs. PC, which was significantly reduced compared to the NC. Taken together, these studies demonstrate that the addition of an absorption enhancer containing a combination of lysophospholipids, monoglycerides and synthetic emulsifiers can improve growth performance in growing pigs, driven by increased nutrient digestibility and retention.

Objective: The purpose of this survey was to estimate the prevalence of viral load (VL) suppression and emergence of HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) among individuals receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) for 36 months or longer in Viet Nam using a nationally representative sampling method. Methods: The survey was conducted between May and August 2014 using a two-stage cluster design. Sixteen ART clinics were selected using probability proportional to proxy size sampling, and patients receiving ART for at least 36 months were consecutively enrolled. Epidemiological information and blood specimens were collected for HIV-1 VL and HIVDR testing; HIVDR was defined by the Stanford University HIVDR algorithm. Results: Overall, 365 eligible individuals were recruited with a mean age of 38.2 years; 68.4% were men. The mean time on ART was 75.5 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 69.0–81.9 months), and 93.7% of the patients were receiving non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor-based regimens. Of the 365 individuals, 345 (94.7%, 95% CI: 64.1–99.4%) had VL below 1000 copies/mL and 19 (4.6%, 95% CI: 2.8-–7.5) had HIVDR mutations. Discussion: Our nationally representative survey found a high level of VL suppression and a low prevalence of HIVDR among individuals who received ART for at least 36 months in Viet Nam. Continued surveillance for HIVDR is important for evaluating and improving HIV programs.

First results of the parasitological survey of Vietnamese terrestrial invertebrates performed in 2007 demonstrate extreme diversity of nematodes parasitic in these animals. The most interesting new findings are nematodes of four superfamilies: Drilonematoidea, Thelastomatoidea, Rhabditoidea and Ransomnematoidea. Further progress was achieved in last three years in the studies of Drilonematoidea nematodes – coelomic parasites of earthworms. One new genus and several new species were discovered in large megascolecids collected in Bac Bo (Tam Dao) and Nam Bo (Bidoup - Nui Ba N.P.). Passalidae beetles are colonial coleopterans inhabiting rotten wood in tropical forests throughout tropics, and are known as characteristic hosts of one taxon of parasitic nematodes – family Hystrignathidae. The nematodes of this family were reported for the first time from Viet Nam in 2007. The fauna of parasitic nematodes of terrestrial mollusks is also diverse in Viet Nam. In addition to the new angiostomatids described in 2005 new Angiostoma species with unusual morphology was discovered in Cat Tien National Park. Nematodes of the family Hethidae were discovered in Vietnamese diplopods in 1997 but not identified up to species level. Examination of Heth specimens under light microscope and scanning electron microscope demonstrate prominent morphological differences between three samples from different areas in Viet Nam. Additional studies are needed to reveal the relationships of parasitic nematodes of terrestrial invertebrates found in Vietnam in 2007 and publish valid descriptions of these new taxa.

Parvus sp. nov. по размерам тела близок к B. abebei Muthumbi, Vincx, 1999 и B. bahari Muthumbi, Vincx, 1999, но от первого отличается более толстым телом, относительно более длинным хвостом, более короткими головными щетинками и более длинным рульком, а от второго — расположением амфидов (немного дальше от переднего конца тела); гладкой, не орнаментированной кутикулой, более короткими спикулами и более длинными рульками. B. brevis sp. nov. по размерам тела близок к B. abebei Muthumbi, Vincx, 1999 и B. parvus sp. nov., описываемому в этой статье. От первого вида отличается более толстым телом, относительно более длинным фаринксом, более коротким хвостом, более короткими спикулами и более длинным рульком, а от второго — более коротким хвостом, более длинными головными щетинками и более короткими спикулами.

The complication of myocardial infarction after using intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) in patients with acute ischemic stroke is rare. Several of these cases have been reported in the first 3 hours after infusion of rt-PA. There is controversy on how to manage treatment of the coronary artery, such as intravenous anticoagulants and antiplatelets, at the same time. We introduce a new strategy for treatment of a patient who had ischemic stroke and developed myocardial infarction after intravenous rt-PA therapy. Our case had coronary and cerebral intervention in combination with low-dose intravenous rt-PA. He was successfully treated for coronary occlusion with aspiration thrombectomy.

BackgroundIn 2015, Singapore had the first and only reported foodborne outbreak of invasive disease caused by the group B Streptococcus (GBS; Streptococcus agalactiae). Disease, predominantly septic arthritis and meningitis, was associated with sequence type (ST)283, acquired from eating raw farmed freshwater fish. Although GBS sepsis is well-described in neonates and older adults with co-morbidities, this outbreak affected non-pregnant and younger adults with fewer co-morbidities, suggesting greater virulence. Before 2015 ST283 had only been reported from twenty humans in Hong Kong and two in France, and from one fish in Thailand. We hypothesised that ST283 was causing region-wide infection in Southeast Asia.Methodology/principal findingsWe performed a literature review, whole genome sequencing on 145 GBS isolates collected from six Southeast Asian countries, and phylogenetic analysis on 7,468 GBS sequences including 227 variants of ST283 from humans and animals. Although almost absent outside Asia, ST283 was found in all invasive Asian collections analysed, from 1995 to 2017. It accounted for 29/38 (76%) human isolates in Lao PDR, 102/139 (73%) in Thailand, 4/13 (31%) in Vietnam, and 167/739 (23%) in Singapore. ST283 and its variants were found in 62/62 (100%) tilapia from 14 outbreak sites in Malaysia and Vietnam, in seven fish species in Singapore markets, and a diseased frog in China.ConclusionsGBS ST283 is widespread in Southeast Asia, where it accounts for a large proportion of bacteraemic GBS, and causes disease and economic loss in aquaculture. If human ST283 is fishborne, as in the Singapore outbreak, then GBS sepsis in Thailand and Lao PDR is predominantly a foodborne disease. However, whether transmission is from aquaculture to humans, or vice versa, or involves an unidentified reservoir remains unknown. Creation of cross-border collaborations in human and animal health are needed to complete the epidemiological picture.

H. parvulus sp. nov. обнаружен в грунте искусственного водоема для выращивания креветок, а H. longipharynx sp. nov. в грунте среди мангровых зарослей в устье реки Ван Ук (Van Uc). Оба новых вида входят в состав видовой группы № 4 рода Halalaimus. Дан дихотомический ключ для определения 11 видов рода Halalaimus, обнаруженных в водоемах Вьетнама.

Приводится иллюстрированное описание двух видов свободноживущих нематод, обнаруженных в искусственных водоемах во Вьетнаме: Chromadorita orientalis sp. nov. и Dichromadora arcospiculum Timm, 1961. Ch. orientalis sp. nov. морфологически близка к Ch. nana Lorenzen, 1973, но имеет более длинное тело, относительно более короткий хвост, более короткие спикулы и иную структуру рулька.

Coptis teeta Wall is known as Hoang Lien, a precious herb and found mostly on Hoang Lien Son mountains, Vietnam. Its rhizomes, contain many chemical compounds have anti-virus, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, anti-fungal, anti-pertussis and antihypertensive effects, are used as drugs.In this study, we studied the hypoglycemic effect of the Hoang Lien root extracted by ethanol in alloxan induced diabetic mice. According to the results, the blood glucose levels of the diabetic mice were reduced from 500 mg/dl to less than 200 mg/dl after 20 days administration at the dose of 150, 200 and 250 mg/kg. Besides, the physiological indicators of mice are stable. Thus, it was found that the extract of Hoang Lien roots possesses a hypoglycemic effect in diabetic.

Despite advanced therapeutics, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains one of the deadliest cancers. Here, we propose a novel therapeutic strategy based on synthetic lethality combining trifluridine/tipiracil and MK1775 (WEE1 inhibitor) as a treatment for ESCC. This study demonstrates that trifluridine induces single-strand DNA damage in ESCC cells, as evidenced by phosphorylated replication protein 32. The DNA damage response includes cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) (Tyr15) phosphorylation as CDK1 inhibition and a decrease of the proportion of phospho-histone H3 (p-hH3)-positive cells, indicating cell cycle arrest at the G2 phase before mitosis entry. The WEE1 inhibitor remarkedly suppressed CDK1 phosphorylation (Try15) and reactivated CDK1, and also increased the proportion of p-hH3-positive cells, which indicates an increase of the number of cells into mitosis. Trifluridine combined with a WEE1 inhibitor increased trifluridine-mediated DNA damage, namely DNA double-strand breaks, as shown by increased γ-H2AX expression. Moreover, the combination treatment with trifluridine/tipiracil and a WEE1 inhibitor significantly suppressed tumor growth of ESCC-derived xenograft models. Alcaligenes faecalis D334 was determined in this study as a salt-tolerant bacterium isolated from mangrove sediment. In response to 6% (w/v) NaCl, strain D334 produced the highest ectoines of 14.14 wt%. To understand adaptive features to mangrove environment, strain D334 was sequenced using Pacific BioScience platform, resulting in a circular chromosome of 4.23 Mb. Of note, D334 genome harbored 81 salt-responsive genes, among which two membrane-associated genes ompc and eric were absent in 3 selected A. faecalis genomes. Apart from that, a complete pathway for ectoine and 5-hydroxyectoine synthesis was predicted. To resist 40 mM H 2 O 2 , 46 genetic determinants contributing to oxidative stress response were employed. Moreover, two operons involved in polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production were identified in the D334 genome, resulting in maximum PHA content of 5.03 ± 0.04 wt% and PHA concentration of 0.13 ± 0.001 g/L. A large flagellar biosynthesis operon contributing to swimming motility was found to be conserved in D334 and 8 other A. faecalis genomes. Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a disease characterized by a high mutation rate of the TP53 gene, which plays pivotal roles in the DNA damage response (DDR) and is regulated by checkpoint kinase (CHK) 2. CHK1 is another key DDR-related protein, and its selective inhibition is suggested to be particularly sensitive to TP53 -mutated cancers, because a loss of both pathways (CHK1 and/or CHK2-p53) is lethal due to the serious impairment of DDR. Such a therapeutic strategy is termed synthetic lethality. Here, we propose a novel therapeutic strategy based on synthetic lethality combining trifluridine/tipiracil and prexasertib (CHK1 inhibitor) as a treatment for ESCC. Trifluridine is a key component of the antitumor drug combination with trifluridine/tipiracil (an inhibitor of trifluridine degradation), also known as TAS-102. In this study, we demonstrate that trifluridine increases CHK1 phosphorylation in ESCC cells combined with a reduction of the S-phase ratio as well as the induction of ssDNA damage. Because CHK1 phosphorylation is considered to be induced as DDR for trifluridine-mediated DNA damage, we examined the effects of CHK1 inhibition on trifluridine treatment. Consequently, CHK1 inhibition by short hairpin RNA or treatment with the CHK1 inhibitor, prexasertib, markedly enhanced trifluridine-mediated DNA damage, represented by an increase of γH2AX expression. Moreover, the combination of trifluridine/tipiracil and CHK1 inhibition significantly suppressed tumor growth of ESCC-derived xenograft tumors.
