This study analyzes volatilities in the relations between stock mar-ket, bond market, and foreign exchange market in Vietnam from April 2014 through December 2015. Particularly, we address the questions of whether there exist sudden changes in correlations be-tween the markets to respond to volatility shocks and whether these changes are temporary or extended. By using VAR(p) – FIEGARCH(1,d,1) – cDCC and PELT approaches in combination with a regression estimation with dummy variables, our empirical results validate the interdependence between the markets, which is found to vary over time. More importantly, volatility shocks give rise to sudden changes in their correlations, and at certain times these are long-lasting. Investors and policy makers in Vietnam should accordingly have due consideration of long-term spillovers.

Based on the panel data of 22 stock tickers in the two porfolios VN30 and HNX30 during 2008–2014, the research empirically investigates the impact of information on stock price volatilities in Vietnam. Non-traditional data collection approach and OLS and GARCH (1;1) models, along the use of data on information supply measured by the number of disclosures of the studied stocks and data on information demand measured by the number of search attempts on Google by means of Google Trend allow the research findings to be distilled into clear recommendations, which show that: (i) Both information supply and demand do affect stock price volatilities; and (ii) More profound and significant impact has been produced by information demand; particularly, effects of market-level information demand are more powerful than those of stock-level information demand.

This paper aims at examining impacts of oil shocks on Vietnam’s balance of trade and causal relationship between the balance of trade and relevant macro factors. Bound testing approach and ARDL are applied to data from Quarter I of 1999 to Quarter IV of 2011. The results demonstrate a negative relationship between oil price, exchange rate and trade balance in Vietnam. More specifically, a one-percent increase in the oil prices and exchange rate causes the trade balance to fall by 0.12% and 0.79% respectively in the long run. In the short run, however, international exchange rates and oil pricesare positively corrrelatedwith Vietnam’s trade balance. These findings allow some recommendations and suggestions for policy makers in an effort to reduce negative effects of oil shocks on Vietnam’s trade balance.

This paper seeks evidence and explanatory factors of asymmetric relationship in interest rate pass-through in Vietnam. The results show that the capital and liquidity requirements of commercial banks are main causes of asymmetric interest rate pass-through in Vietnam. The research based on data from six commercial banks in Vietnam during the period 2009-2012 shows that (i) Loan rates from capital constrained banks are higher than those from unconstrained banks; (ii) Pass-through from monetary policy rate to loan rates is not clear in both constrained and unconstrained banks; and (iii) Loan rates from capital constrained banks are more sensitive to changes in aggregate demand.

Transfer pricing or the manipulation of transfer prices is to set the price of intra-firm transactions different from market prices in order to shift incomes from high-tax locations to low-tax ones. Hence, a multinational corporation can decrease its global tax burden. The study applies the model of transfer pricing incentive of Swenson (2001) by employing generalised method of moments (GMMs) to examine the effect of income tax rate and tariff rates on the setting of transfer prices in ten commodity groups of multinationals operating in Vietnam during the period of 2008-2013. The study concludes a positive correlation between changes of transfer pricing incentives and changes of reported transfer prices. Furthermore, the findings also show that increases in Vietnamese income tax rate lead to decreases in income tax rate in the headquartered country of parent firms, or Vietnamese tariff rate. Additionally, the level of reported transfer prices of imports from the parent firm to its affiliates in Vietnam will increase the majority of investigated commodity groups (except motor vehicles).
