This "Equity Tool" is intended to facilitate use of the concepts and processes described in greater depth in the Equity by Design brief, "Promoting Socially Just Evidence-based Practice." We summarize the framework presented in this brief and offer guiding questions to support educators' preparation for and engagement in equity-based practice (EBP) elements and processes.

Medical eye-tracking data is an important information source for understanding how radiologists visually interpret medical images. This information not only improves the accuracy of deep learning models for X-ray analysis but also their interpretability, enhancing transparency in decision-making. However, the current eye-tracking data is dispersed, unprocessed, and ambiguous, making it difficult to derive meaningful insights. Therefore, there is a need to create a new dataset with more focus and purposeful eyetracking data, improving its utility for diagnostic applications. In this work, we propose a refinement method inspired by the target-present visual search challenge: there is a specific finding and fixations are guided to locate it. After refining the existing eye-tracking datasets, we transform them into a curated visual search dataset, called GazeSearch, specifically for radiology findings, where each fixation sequence is purposefully aligned to the task of locating a particular finding. Subsequently, we introduce a scan path prediction baseline, called ChestSearch, specifically tailored to GazeSearch. Large Language Models (LLMs), with gradually improving reading comprehension and reasoning capabilities, are being applied to a range of complex language tasks, including the automatic generation of language data for various purposes. However, research on applying LLMs for automatic data generation in low-resource languages like Vietnamese is still underdeveloped and lacks comprehensive evaluation. In this paper, we explore the use of LLMs for automatic data generation for the Vietnamese fact-checking task, which faces significant data limitations. Specifically, we focus on fact-checking data where claims are synthesized from multiple evidence sentences to assess the information synthesis capabilities of LLMs. We develop an automatic data construction process using simple prompt techniques on LLMs and explore several methods to improve the quality of the generated data. To evaluate the quality of the data generated by LLMs, we conduct both manual quality assessments and performance evaluations using language models. Experimental results and manual evaluations illustrate that while the quality of the generated data has significantly improved through fine-tuning techniques, LLMs still cannot match the data quality produced by humans.

The accurate alignment of 3D woodblock geometrical models with 2D orthographic projection images presents a significant challenge in the digital preservation of Vietnamese cultural heritage. This paper proposes a unified image processing algorithm to address this issue, enhancing the registration quality between 3D woodblock models and their 2D representations. The method includes determining the plane of the 3D character model, establishing a transformation matrix to align this plane with the 2D printed image plane, and creating a parallel-projected depth map for precise alignment. This process minimizes disocclusions and ensures that character shapes and strokes are correctly positioned. Experimental results highlight the importance of structure-based comparisons to optimize alignment for large-scale Han-Nom character datasets. The proposed approach, combining density-based and structure-based methods, demonstrates improved registration performance, offering an effective normalization scheme for digital heritage preservation.

Depth information plays a crucial role in autonomous systems for environmental perception and robot state estimation. With the rapid development of deep neural network technology, depth estimation has been extensively studied and shown potential for practical applications. However, in particularly challenging environments such as low-light and noisy underwater conditions, direct application of machine learning models may not yield the desired results. Therefore, in this paper, we present an approach to enhance underwater image quality to improve depth estimation effectiveness. First, underwater images are processed through methods such as color compensation, brightness equalization, and enhancement of contrast and sharpness of objects in the image. Next, we perform depth estimation using the Udepth model on the enhanced images. In this paper, we propose the development of an interactive platform between humans and a dual-arm robotic system based on the Robot Operating System (ROS) and a multimodal artificial intelligence model. Our proposed platform consists of two main components: a dual-arm robotic hardware system and software that includes image processing tasks and natural language processing using a 3D camera and embedded computing. First, we designed and developed a dual-arm robotic system with a positional accuracy of less than 2 cm, capable of operating independently, performing industrial and service tasks while simultaneously simulating and modeling the robot in the ROS environment. Second, artificial intelligence models for image processing are integrated to execute object picking and classification tasks with an accuracy of over 90%. Finally, we developed remote control software using voice commands through a natural language processing model. Determining the difficulty of a text involves assessing various textual features that may impact the reader's text comprehension, yet current research in Vietnamese has only focused on statistical features. This paper introduces a new approach that integrates statistical and semantic approaches to assessing text readability. Our research utilized three distinct datasets: the Vietnamese Text Readability Dataset (ViRead), OneStopEnglish, and RACE, with the latter two translated into Vietnamese. Advanced semantic analysis methods were employed for the semantic aspect using state-of-the-art language models such as PhoBERT, ViDeBERTa, and ViBERT. In addition, statistical methods were incorporated to extract syntactic and lexical features of the text. We conducted experiments using various machine learning models, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest, and Extra Trees and evaluated their performance using accuracy and F1 score metrics. Our results indicate that a joint approach that combines semantic and statistical features significantly enhances the accuracy of readability classification compared to using each method in isolation. The current study emphasizes the importance of considering both statistical and semantic aspects for a more accurate assessment of text difficulty in Vietnamese. This contribution to the field provides insights into the adaptability of advanced language models in the context of Vietnamese text readability. Many nations are promoting the green transition in the energy sector to attain neutral carbon emissions by 2050. Smart Grid 2.0 (SG2) is expected to explore data-driven analytics and enhance communication technologies to improve the efficiency and sustainability of distributed renewable energy systems. These features are beyond smart metering and electric surplus distribution in conventional smart grids. Given the high dependence on communication networks to connect distributed microgrids in SG2, potential cascading failures of connectivity can cause disruption to data synchronization to the remote control systems. This paper reviews security threats and defense tactics for three stakeholders: power grid operators, communication network providers, and consumers. Through the survey, we found that SG2's stakeholders are particularly vulnerable to substation attacks/vandalism, malware/ransomware threats, blockchain vulnerabilities and supply chain breakdowns. Furthermore, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into autonomous energy management in distributed energy resources of SG2 creates new challenges. Accordingly, adversarial samples and false data injection on electricity reading and measurement sensors at power plants can fool AI-powered control functions and cause messy error-checking operations in energy storage, wrong energy estimation in electric vehicle charging, and even fraudulent transactions in peer-to-peer energy trading models. We propose a novel technique for optimizing a modular fault-tolerant quantum computing architecture, taking into account any desired space-time trade--offs between the number of physical qubits and the fault-tolerant execution time of a quantum algorithm. We consider a concept architecture comprising a dedicated zone as a multi-level magic state factory and a core processor for efficient logical operations, forming a supply chain network for production and consumption of magic states. Using a heuristic algorithm, we solve the multi-objective optimization problem of minimizing space and time subject to a user-defined error budget for the success of the computation, taking the performance of various fault-tolerant protocols such as quantum memory, state preparation, magic state distillation, code growth, and logical operations into account. As an application, we show that physical quantum resource estimation reduces to a simple model involving a small number of key parameters, namely, the circuit volume, the error prefactors ($\mu$) and error suppression rates ($\Lambda$) of the fault-tolerant protocols, and an allowed slowdown factor ($\beta$). We show that, in the proposed architecture, $10^5$--$10^8$ physical qubits are required for quantum algorithms with $T$-counts in the range $10^6$--$10^{15}$ and logical qubit counts in the range $10^2$--$10^4$, when run on quantum computers with quantum memory $\Lambda$ in the range 3--10, for all slowdown factors $\beta \geq 0.2$., Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures

Direct Z-scheme heterostructures with enhanced redox potential are increasingly regarded as promising materials for solar-driven water splitting. This potential arises from the synergistic interaction between the intrinsic dipoles in Janus materials and the interfacial electric fields across the layers. In this study, we explore the photocatalytic potential of 20 two-dimensional (2D) Janus transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) heterobilayers for efficient water splitting. Utilizing density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we first screen these materials based on key properties such as band gaps and the magnitude of intrinsic electric fields to identify promising candidates. We then evaluate additional critical factors, including carrier mobility and surface chemical reactions, to fully assess their performance. The intrinsic dipole moments in Janus materials generate built-in electric fields that enhance charge separation and reduce carrier recombination, thereby improving photocatalytic efficiency. Furthermore, we employ the Fr\"{o}hlich interaction model to quantify the mobility contributions from the longitudinal optical phonon mode, providing detailed insights into how carrier mobility, influenced by phonon scattering, affects photocatalytic performance. Our results reveal that several Janus-TMDC heterobilayers, including WSe$_2$-SWSe, WSe$_2$-TeWSe, and WS$_2$-SMoSe, exhibit strong absorption in the visible spectrum and achieve solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion efficiencies of up to 33.24%. These findings demonstrate the potential of Janus-based Z-scheme systems to overcome existing limitations in photocatalytic water splitting by optimizing the electronic and structural properties of 2D materials. Federated Learning (FL) is a machine learning method for training with private data locally stored in distributed machines without gathering them into one place for central learning. Despite its promises, FL is prone to critical security risks. First, because FL depends on a central server to aggregate local training models, this is a single point of failure. The server might function maliciously. Second, due to its distributed nature, FL might encounter backdoor attacks by participating clients. They can poison the local model before submitting to the server. Either type of attack, on the server or the client side, would severely degrade learning accuracy. We propose FedBlock, a novel blockchain-based FL framework that addresses both of these security risks. FedBlock is uniquely desirable in that it involves only smart contract programming, thus deployable atop any blockchain network. Our framework is substantiated with a comprehensive evaluation study using real-world datasets. Its robustness against backdoor attacks is competitive with the literature of FL backdoor defense. Polariton lasing is a promising phenomenon with potential applications in next-generation lasers that operate without the need for population inversion. Applying a perpendicular magnetic field to a quantum well (QW) significantly alters the properties of exciton-polaritons. In this theoretical study, we investigate how the lasing threshold of QW exciton-polaritons depends on the magnetic field. By modifying the exciton's effective mass and Rabi splitting, the magnetic field induces notable changes in the relaxation kinetics, which directly affect the lasing threshold. For low-energy pumping, an increase in the magnetic field delays the lasing threshold, while for high-energy pumping, the threshold is reached at much lower pump intensities. Furthermore, increasing both the pump energy and the magnetic field enhances relaxation efficiency, leading to a substantially larger number of condensed polaritons. Gcd-graphs over the ring of integers modulo $n$ are a simple and elegant class of integral graphs. The study of these graphs connects multiple areas of mathematics, including graph theory, number theory, and ring theory. In a recent work, inspired by the analogy between number fields and function fields, we define and study gcd-graphs over polynomial rings with coefficients in finite fields. We discover that, in both cases, gcd-graphs share many similar and analogous properties. In this article, we extend this line of research further. Among other topics, we explore an analog of a conjecture of So and a weaker version of Sander-Sander, concerning the conditions under which two gcd-graphs are isomorphic or isospectral. Singing is one of the most cherished forms of human entertainment. However, creating a beautiful song requires an accompaniment that complements the vocals and aligns well with the song instruments and genre. With advancements in deep learning, previous research has focused on generating suitable accompaniments but often lacks precise alignment with the desired instrumentation and genre. To address this, we propose a straightforward method that enables control over the accompaniment through text prompts, allowing the generation of music that complements the vocals and aligns with the song instrumental and genre requirements. Through extensive experiments, we successfully generate 10-second accompaniments using vocal input and text control.

6G wireless networks are expected to provide seamless and data-based connections that cover space-air-ground and underwater networks. As a core partition of future 6G networks, Space-Air-Ground Integrated Networks (SAGIN) have been envisioned to provide countless real-time intelligent applications. To realize this, promoting AI techniques into SAGIN is an inevitable trend. Due to the distributed and heterogeneous architecture of SAGIN, federated learning (FL) and then quantum FL are emerging AI model training techniques for enabling future privacy-enhanced and computation-efficient SAGINs. In this work, we explore the vision of using FL/QFL in SAGINs. We present a few representative applications enabled by the integration of FL and QFL in SAGINs. A case study of QFL over UAV networks is also given, showing the merit of quantum-enabled training approach over the conventional FL benchmark. Mixture of Experts (MoEs) plays an important role in the development of more efficient and effective large language models (LLMs). Due to the enormous resource requirements, studying large scale MoE algorithms remain in-accessible to many researchers. This work develops \emph{LibMoE}, a comprehensive and modular framework to streamline the research, training, and evaluation of MoE algorithms. Built upon three core principles: (i) modular design, (ii) efficient training; (iii) comprehensive evaluation, LibMoE brings MoE in LLMs more accessible to a wide range of researchers by standardizing the training and evaluation pipelines. Using LibMoE, we extensively benchmarked five state-of-the-art MoE algorithms over three different LLMs and 11 datasets under the zero-shot setting. The results show that despite the unique characteristics, all MoE algorithms perform roughly similar when averaged across a wide range of tasks. A graph is called integral if its eigenvalues are integers. In this article, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions for a Cayley graph over a finite symmetric algebra $R$ to be integral. This study presents an innovative dynamic weighting knowledge distillation (KD) framework tailored for efficient Earth observation (EO) image classification (IC) in resource-constrained settings. Utilizing EfficientViT and MobileViT as teacher models, this framework enables lightweight student models, particularly ResNet8 and ResNet16, to surpass 90% in accuracy, precision, and recall, adhering to the stringent confidence thresholds necessary for reliable classification tasks. Unlike conventional KD methods that rely on static weight distribution, our adaptive weighting mechanism responds to each teacher model's confidence, allowing student models to prioritize more credible sources of knowledge dynamically. Remarkably, ResNet8 delivers substantial efficiency gains, achieving a 97.5% reduction in parameters, a 96.7% decrease in FLOPs, an 86.2% cut in power consumption, and a 63.5% increase in inference speed over MobileViT. This significant optimization of complexity and resource demands establishes ResNet8 as an optimal candidate for EO tasks, combining robust performance with feasibility in deployment. The confidence-based, adaptable KD approach underscores the potential of dynamic distillation strategies to yield high-performing, resource-efficient models tailored for satellite-based EO applications. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) are essential for diagnosing, staging, and monitoring various diseases, particularly cancer. Despite their importance, the use of PET/CT systems is limited by the necessity for radioactive materials, the scarcity of PET scanners, and the high cost associated with PET imaging. In contrast, CT scanners are more widely available and significantly less expensive. In response to these challenges, our study addresses the issue of generating PET images from CT images, aiming to reduce both the medical examination cost and the associated health risks for patients. Our contributions are twofold: First, we introduce a conditional diffusion model named CPDM, which, to our knowledge, is one of the initial attempts to employ a diffusion model for translating from CT to PET images. Second, we provide the largest CT-PET dataset to date, comprising 2,028,628 paired CT-PET images, which facilitates the training and evaluation of CT-to-PET translation models. For the CPDM model, we incorporate domain knowledge to develop two conditional maps: the Attention map and the Attenuation map. The former helps the diffusion process focus on areas of interest, while the latter improves PET data correction and ensures accurate diagnostic information. Experimental evaluations across various benchmarks demonstrate that CPDM surpasses existing methods in generating high-quality PET images in terms of multiple metrics. Earth observation (EO) systems are essential for mapping, catastrophe monitoring, and resource management, but they have trouble processing and sending large amounts of EO data efficiently, especially for specialized applications like agriculture and real-time disaster response. This paper presents a novel framework for semantic communication in EO satellite networks, aimed at enhancing data transmission efficiency and system performance through cognitive processing techniques. The proposed system leverages Discrete Task-Oriented Joint Source-Channel Coding (DT-JSCC) and Semantic Data Augmentation (SA) integrate cognitive semantic processing with inter-satellite links, enabling efficient analysis and transmission of multispectral imagery for improved object detection, pattern recognition, and real-time decision-making. Cognitive Semantic Augmentation (CSA) is introduced to enhance a system's capability to process and transmit semantic information, improving feature prioritization, consistency, and adaptation to changing communication and application needs. While most generative models show achievements in image data generation, few are developed for tabular data generation. Recently, due to success of large language models (LLM) in diverse tasks, they have also been used for tabular data generation. However, these methods do not capture the correct correlation between the features and the target variable, hindering their applications in downstream predictive tasks. To address this problem, we propose a LLM-based method with three important improvements to correctly capture the ground-truth feature-class correlation in the real data. First, we propose a novel permutation strategy for the input data in the fine-tuning phase. Second, we propose a feature-conditional sampling approach to generate synthetic samples. Finally, we generate the labels by constructing prompts based on the generated samples to query our fine-tuned LLM. Our extensive experiments show that our method significantly outperforms 10 SOTA baselines on 20 datasets in downstream tasks. It also produces highly realistic synthetic samples in terms of quality and diversity. More importantly, classifiers trained with our synthetic data can even compete with classifiers trained with the original data on half of the benchmark datasets, which is a significant achievement in tabular data generation., Comment: To appear at ICDM 2024

Endovascular surgical tool reconstruction represents an important factor in advancing endovascular tool navigation, which is an important step in endovascular surgery. However, the lack of publicly available datasets significantly restricts the development and validation of novel machine learning approaches. Moreover, due to the need for specialized equipment such as biplanar scanners, most of the previous research employs monoplanar fluoroscopic technologies, hence only capturing the data from a single view and significantly limiting the reconstruction accuracy. To bridge this gap, we introduce Guide3D, a bi-planar X-ray dataset for 3D reconstruction. The dataset represents a collection of high resolution bi-planar, manually annotated fluoroscopic videos, captured in real-world settings. Validating our dataset within a simulated environment reflective of clinical settings confirms its applicability for real-world applications. Furthermore, we propose a new benchmark for guidewrite shape prediction, serving as a strong baseline for future work. Guide3D not only addresses an essential need by offering a platform for advancing segmentation and 3D reconstruction techniques but also aids the development of more accurate and efficient endovascular surgery interventions. Thermoelectricity in telluride materials is often improved by replacing telluride with selenium in its crystal. Most work, however, focuses on bulk crystal and leaves the 2D thin films intact. In this paper, we optimize the fabrication of selenium-doped bismuth telluride (Bi$_2$Te$_{3-\rm{x}}$Se$_{\rm{x}}$) thin films using a 3-source thermal co-evaporation. Thermoelectric properties, including the Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity, are systematically characterized to evaluate the material's performance for thermoelectric applications near room temperature. The thin films were deposited under carefully controlled conditions, with the evaporation rates of bismuth, tellurium, and selenium precisely monitored to achieve the desired stoichiometry and crystalline phase. Finally, thermoelectricity in Bi$_2$Te$_{3-\rm{x}}$Se$_{\rm{x}}$ at the ultra-thin regime is investigated. We consistently obtain films with thickness near 30 nm with a Seebeck coefficient of 400 $\mu$V/K and a power factor of 1 mW/mK$^2$.

Melody stuck in your head, also known as "earworm", is tough to get rid of, unless you listen to it again or sing it out loud. But what if you can not find the name of that song? It must be an intolerable feeling. Recognizing a song name base on humming sound is not an easy task for a human being and should be done by machines. However, there is no research paper published about hum tune recognition. Adapting from Hum2Song Zalo AI Challenge 2021 - a competition about querying the name of a song by user's giving humming tune, which is similar to Google's Hum to Search. This paper covers details about the pre-processed data from the original type (mp3) to usable form for training and inference. In training an embedding model for the feature extraction phase, we ran experiments with some states of the art, such as ResNet, VGG, AlexNet, MobileNetV2. And for the inference phase, we use the Faiss module to effectively search for a song that matched the sequence of humming sound. The result comes at nearly 94\% in MRR@10 metric on the public test set, along with the top 1 result on the public leaderboard.

Small Language Models (SLMs) have become increasingly important due to their efficiency and performance to perform various language tasks with minimal computational resources, making them ideal for various settings including on-device, mobile, edge devices, among many others. In this article, we present a comprehensive survey on SLMs, focusing on their architectures, training techniques, and model compression techniques. We propose a novel taxonomy for categorizing the methods used to optimize SLMs, including model compression, pruning, and quantization techniques. We summarize the benchmark datasets that are useful for benchmarking SLMs along with the evaluation metrics commonly used. Additionally, we highlight key open challenges that remain to be addressed. Our survey aims to serve as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners interested in developing and deploying small yet efficient language models.

GPT-4o is an autoregressive omni model that accepts as input any combination of text, audio, image, and video, and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. It's trained end-to-end across text, vision, and audio, meaning all inputs and outputs are processed by the same neural network. GPT-4o can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds, which is similar to human response time in conversation. It matches GPT-4 Turbo performance on text in English and code, with significant improvement on text in non-English languages, while also being much faster and 50\% cheaper in the API. GPT-4o is especially better at vision and audio understanding compared to existing models. In line with our commitment to building AI safely and consistent with our voluntary commitments to the White House, we are sharing the GPT-4o System Card, which includes our Preparedness Framework evaluations. In this System Card, we provide a detailed look at GPT-4o's capabilities, limitations, and safety evaluations across multiple categories, focusing on speech-to-speech while also evaluating text and image capabilities, and measures we've implemented to ensure the model is safe and aligned. We also include third-party assessments on dangerous capabilities, as well as discussion of potential societal impacts of GPT-4o's text and vision capabilities.

Efficient long-context language modeling remains a significant challenge in Natural Language Processing (NLP). While Transformers dominate language tasks, they struggle with long sequences due to quadratic computational complexity in training and linearly scaling memory costs during inference. Recent State Space Models (SSMs) such as Mamba offer alternatives with constant memory usage, but they underperform in tasks requiring extensive in-context retrieval. We introduce Taipan, a novel hybrid architecture that combines Mamba-2 with Selective Attention Layers (SALs). These SALs identify tokens requiring long-range interactions, remove less important features, and then augment their representations using the attention module. This approach balances Mamba's efficiency with Transformer-like performance in memory-intensive tasks. By constraining the attention budget, Taipan extends accurate predictions to context lengths of up to 1 million tokens while preserving computational efficiency. Our experiments demonstrate Taipan's superior performance across various scales and tasks, offering a promising solution for efficient long-context language modeling.

We establish a new family of the critical higher order Sobolev interpolation inequalities for radial functions as well as for non-radial functions. These Sobolev interpolation inequalities are sharp in the sense that they use the optimal quadratic forms of the sharp Hardy-Rellich inequalities and cover the Sobolev critical exponents. Our results extend those studied by Dietze and Nam in [15] for the first order derivative case to higher order setting. The well-known P\'{o}lya-Szeg\"{o} symmetrization principle and the nonlinear ground state representation play an important role in the work of [15]. To overcome the absence of the P\'{o}lya-Szeg\"{o} principle and the nonlinear ground state representation in the higher order case, our proofs rely on the Fourier analysis and a higher order verion of the Talenti comparison principle. We also study a new version of the critical Hardy-Sobolev interpolation inequality involving the critical quadratic form of the Hardy inequality and Lorentz norms. Our critical Hardy-Sobolev interpolation inequality complements the result of Dietze and Nam in [15].

Spectrum access is an essential problem in device-to-device (D2D) communications. However, with the recent growth in the number of mobile devices, the wireless spectrum is becoming scarce, resulting in low spectral efficiency for D2D communications. To address this problem, this paper aims to integrate the ambient backscatter communication technology into D2D devices to allow them to backscatter ambient RF signals to transmit their data when the shared spectrum is occupied by mobile users. To obtain the optimal spectrum access policy, i.e., stay idle or access the shared spectrum and perform active transmissions or backscattering ambient RF signals for transmissions, to maximize the average throughput for D2D users, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) can be adopted. However, DRL-based solutions may require long training time due to the curse of dimensionality issue as well as complex deep neural network architectures. For that, we develop a novel quantum reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm that can achieve a faster convergence rate with fewer training parameters compared to DRL thanks to the quantum superposition and quantum entanglement principles. Specifically, instead of using conventional deep neural networks, the proposed quantum RL algorithm uses a parametrized quantum circuit to approximate an optimal policy. Extensive simulations then demonstrate that the proposed solution not only can significantly improve the average throughput of D2D devices when the shared spectrum is busy but also can achieve much better performance in terms of convergence rate and learning complexity compared to existing DRL-based methods., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

REST (Representational State Transfer) APIs have become integral for data communication and exchange due to their simplicity, scalability, and compatibility with web standards. However, ensuring REST APIs' reliability through rigorous testing poses significant challenges, given the complexities of operations, parameters, inputs, dependencies, and call sequences. In this paper, we introduce MUCOREST, a novel Reinforcement Learning (RL)-based API testing approach that leverages Q-learning to maximize code coverage and output coverage, thereby improving bug discovery. By focusing on these proximate objectives rather than the abstract goal of maximizing failures, MUCOREST effectively discovers critical code areas and diverse API behaviors. The experimental results on a benchmark of 10 services show that MUCOREST significantly outperforms state-of-the-art API testing approaches by 11.6-261.1% in the number of discovered API bugs. MUCOREST can generate much fewer API calls to discover the same number of bugs compared to the other approaches. Feature Selection (FS) under domain adaptation (DA) is a critical task in machine learning, especially when dealing with limited target data. However, existing methods lack the capability to guarantee the reliability of FS under DA. In this paper, we introduce a novel statistical method to statistically test FS reliability under DA, named SFS-DA (statistical FS-DA). The key strength of SFS-DA lies in its ability to control the false positive rate (FPR) below a pre-specified level $\alpha$ (e.g., 0.05) while maximizing the true positive rate. Compared to the literature on statistical FS, SFS-DA presents a unique challenge in addressing the effect of DA to ensure the validity of the inference on FS results. We overcome this challenge by leveraging the Selective Inference (SI) framework. Specifically, by carefully examining the FS process under DA whose operations can be characterized by linear and quadratic inequalities, we prove that achieving FPR control in SFS-DA is indeed possible. Furthermore, we enhance the true detection rate by introducing a more strategic approach. Experiments conducted on both synthetic and real-world datasets robustly support our theoretical results, showcasing the superior performance of the proposed SFS-DA method.

Text-based VQA is a challenging task that requires machines to use scene texts in given images to yield the most appropriate answer for the given question. The main challenge of text-based VQA is exploiting the meaning and information from scene texts. Recent studies tackled this challenge by considering the spatial information of scene texts in images via embedding 2D coordinates of their bounding boxes. In this study, we follow the definition of meaning from linguistics to introduce a novel method that effectively exploits the information from scene texts written in Vietnamese. Experimental results show that our proposed method obtains state-of-the-art results on two large-scale Vietnamese Text-based VQA datasets. We perform a systematic study of inelastic nuclear rainbow scattering for the \oc system to the 2$^+$ (4.44 MeV) state of $^{12}$C at incident energies of 100--608 MeV with the coupled-channels method. The recently generalized nearside-farside decomposition for inelastic scattering was applied in combination with the multichannel deflection function analysis to elucidate the origin of the nuclear rainbow phenomenon and the suppression of the primary and supernumerary Airy minima in the inelastic scattering cross section. The systematic evolution of the Airy minima for the excited 2$^+$ (4.44 MeV) state of $^{12}$C was unambiguously determined. Our work suggests that there is no clear shift in the positions of the first Airy minima and a small shift at low energies for the second and third Airy minima between the inelastic and elastic scattering cross sections. Using the $K$-subamplitudes splitting technique combined with the generalized nearside-farside decomposition and deflection function, the distinct refractive pattern commonly suppressed in the inelastic heavy-ion scattering can be interpreted and provides new insights into the relationship between elastic and inelastic nuclear rainbow scattering.

In this paper, we report on communication experiments conducted in the summer of 2022 during a deep dive to the wreck of the Titanic. Radio transmission is not possible in deep sea water, and communication links rely on sonar signals. Due to the low bandwidth of sonar signals and the need to communicate readable data, text messaging is used in deep-sea missions. In this paper, we report results and experiences from a messaging system that converts speech to text in a submarine, sends text messages to the surface, and reconstructs those messages as synthetic lip-synchronous videos of the speakers. The resulting system was tested during an actual dive to Titanic in the summer of 2022. We achieved an acceptable latency for a system of such complexity as well as good quality. Statutory law retrieval is a typical problem in legal language processing, that has various practical applications in law engineering. Modern deep learning-based retrieval methods have achieved significant results for this problem. However, retrieval systems relying on semantic and lexical correlations often exhibit limitations, particularly when handling queries that involve real-life scenarios, or use the vocabulary that is not specific to the legal domain. In this work, we focus on overcoming this weaknesses by utilizing the logical reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs) to identify relevant legal terms and facts related to the situation mentioned in the query. The proposed retrieval system integrates additional information from the term--based expansion and query reformulation to improve the retrieval accuracy. The experiments on COLIEE 2022 and COLIEE 2023 datasets show that extra knowledge from LLMs helps to improve the retrieval result of both lexical and semantic ranking models. Service robots that work alongside humans in a shared environment need a navigation system that takes into account not only physical safety but also social norms for mutual cooperation. In this paper, we introduce a motion planning system that includes human states such as positions and velocities and their personal space for social-aware navigation. The system first extracts human positions from the LiDAR and the RGB-D camera. It then uses the Kalman filter to fuse that information for human state estimation. An asymmetric Gaussian function is then employed to model human personal space based on their states. This model is used as the input to the dynamic window approach algorithm to generate trajectories for the robot. We explore a robust version of the barycenter problem among $n$ centered Gaussian probability measures, termed Semi-Unbalanced Optimal Transport (SUOT)-based Barycenter, wherein the barycenter remains fixed while the others are relaxed using Kullback-Leibler divergence. We develop optimization algorithms on Bures-Wasserstein manifold, named the Exact Geodesic Gradient Descent and Hybrid Gradient Descent algorithms. While the Exact Geodesic Gradient Descent method is based on computing the exact closed form of the first-order derivative of the objective function of the barycenter along a geodesic on the Bures manifold, the Hybrid Gradient Descent method utilizes optimizer components when solving the SUOT problem to replace outlier measures before applying the Riemannian Gradient Descent. We establish the theoretical convergence guarantees for both methods and demonstrate that the Exact Geodesic Gradient Descent algorithm attains a dimension-free convergence rate. This paper introduces a novel lossless compression method for compressing geometric attributes of point cloud data with bits-back coding. Our method specializes in using a deep learning-based probabilistic model to estimate the Shannon's entropy of the point cloud information, i.e., geometric attributes of the 3D floating points. Once the entropy of the point cloud dataset is estimated with a convolutional variational autoencoder (CVAE), we use the learned CVAE model to compress the geometric attributes of the point clouds with the bits-back coding technique. The novelty of our method with bits-back coding specializes in utilizing the learned latent variable model of the CVAE to compress the point cloud data. By using bits-back coding, we can capture the potential correlation between the data points, such as similar spatial features like shapes and scattering regions, into the lower-dimensional latent space to further reduce the compression ratio. The main insight of our method is that we can achieve a competitive compression ratio as conventional deep learning-based approaches, while significantly reducing the overhead cost of storage and/or communicating the compression codec, making our approach more applicable in practical scenarios. Throughout comprehensive evaluations, we found that the cost for the overhead is significantly small, compared to the reduction of the compression ratio when compressing large point cloud datasets. One of the most challenging problems in the computational study of localization in quantum manybody systems is to capture the effects of rare events, which requires sampling over exponentially many disorder realizations. We implement an efficient procedure on a quantum processor, leveraging quantum parallelism, to efficiently sample over all disorder realizations. We observe localization without disorder in quantum many-body dynamics in one and two dimensions: perturbations do not diffuse even though both the generator of evolution and the initial states are fully translationally invariant. The disorder strength as well as its density can be readily tuned using the initial state. Furthermore, we demonstrate the versatility of our platform by measuring Renyi entropies. Our method could also be extended to higher moments of the physical observables and disorder learning.

Grasping a variety of objects remains a key challenge in the development of versatile robotic systems. The human hand is remarkably dexterous, capable of grasping and manipulating objects with diverse shapes, mechanical properties, and textures. Inspired by how humans use two fingers to pick up thin and large objects such as fabric or sheets of paper, we aim to develop a gripper optimized for grasping such deformable objects. Observing how the soft and flexible fingertip joints of the hand approach and grasp thin materials, a hybrid gripper design that incorporates both soft and rigid components was proposed. The gripper utilizes a soft pneumatic ring wrapped around a rigid revolute joint to create a flexible two-fingered gripper. Experiments were conducted to characterize and evaluate the gripper performance in handling sheets of paper and other objects. Compared to rigid grippers, the proposed design improves grasping efficiency and reduces the gripping distance by up to eightfold.

Neural Functional Networks (NFNs) have gained increasing interest due to their wide range of applications, including extracting information from implicit representations of data, editing network weights, and evaluating policies. A key design principle of NFNs is their adherence to the permutation and scaling symmetries inherent in the connectionist structure of the input neural networks. Recent NFNs have been proposed with permutation and scaling equivariance based on either graph-based message-passing mechanisms or parameter-sharing mechanisms. However, graph-based equivariant NFNs suffer from high memory consumption and long running times. On the other hand, parameter-sharing-based NFNs built upon equivariant linear layers exhibit lower memory consumption and faster running time, yet their expressivity is limited due to the large size of the symmetric group of the input neural networks. The challenge of designing a permutation and scaling equivariant NFN that maintains low memory consumption and running time while preserving expressivity remains unresolved. In this paper, we propose a novel solution with the development of MAGEP-NFN (Monomial mAtrix Group Equivariant Polynomial NFN). Our approach follows the parameter-sharing mechanism but differs from previous works by constructing a nonlinear equivariant layer represented as a polynomial in the input weights. This polynomial formulation enables us to incorporate additional relationships between weights from different input hidden layers, enhancing the model's expressivity while keeping memory consumption and running time low, thereby addressing the aforementioned challenge. We provide empirical evidence demonstrating that MAGEP-NFN achieves competitive performance and efficiency compared to existing baselines.

This paper systematically explores neural functional networks (NFN) for transformer architectures. NFN are specialized neural networks that treat the weights, gradients, or sparsity patterns of a deep neural network (DNN) as input data and have proven valuable for tasks such as learnable optimizers, implicit data representations, and weight editing. While NFN have been extensively developed for MLP and CNN, no prior work has addressed their design for transformers, despite the importance of transformers in modern deep learning. This paper aims to address this gap by providing a systematic study of NFN for transformers. We first determine the maximal symmetric group of the weights in a multi-head attention module as well as a necessary and sufficient condition under which two sets of hyperparameters of the multi-head attention module define the same function. We then define the weight space of transformer architectures and its associated group action, which leads to the design principles for NFN in transformers. Based on these, we introduce Transformer-NFN, an NFN that is equivariant under this group action. Additionally, we release a dataset of more than 125,000 Transformers model checkpoints trained on two datasets with two different tasks, providing a benchmark for evaluating Transformer-NFN and encouraging further research on transformer training and performance.
