Abstract In this study, we use a time-varying parameter vector autoregression in conjunction with the extended joint connectedness approach (TVPVAR-EJC) to examine the interrelationships among five variables, namely digitalization measured by the number of individuals using the Internet (% of the population), mobile cellular subscriptions (per 100 people), human capital index, CO2 emissions, and GDP, from 1996 to 2019 in Vietnam. Net total directional connectedness of digitalization and other variables suggests that it consistently acts as a net shock transmitter, whereas human capital was found to be a net receiver of corresponding shocks from 1997 to 2019. The emission of CO2 was a net critical receiver in 1998 but remained as a net transmitter for the rest of the period. Pairwise connectedness reveals that digitalization appeared as a net shock transmitter in connection with the human capital index and GDP. In the relationship with human capital, digitalization’s role was critical.

AbstractBased on the UTAUT theory, this study aims to determine the determinants of customers’ intention to use Smart Locker service and specify the relationships between these factors forming on the Resource Matching theory and the Perceived Value theory. The authors applied the SEM model to estimate the primary dataset from 277 potential Ho Chi Minh City customers. This paper showed that there are 8 factors affecting the intention to use Smart Locker of Ho Chi Minh city customers, namely: Convenience (CVN), Privacy Security (PV), Reliability (REL), Functionality (FUN), Service Diversity (SD), Social Influence (SI), Facilitating Conditions (FC), Perceived Value (VAL). The influence of security, service diversity, and social influence on customers’ intention to use the Smart Locker is mediated by perceived value ‘Social Influence’ (SI) and it has both direct and indirect impact on the intention to use Smart Locker through ‘Perceived Value’. The ‘Perceived Value’ (VAL) factor has a significant direct effect, while the ‘Privacy Security’ (PV), and ‘Service Diversity’ (SD) factors have indirect effects on the ‘Intention to Use’ (INT) Smart Lockers. Since then, the authors point out limitations hindering customers’ intention to use Smart Locker and offer some solutions for logistics firms to improve their ability to attract customers’ intention in Vietnam.

The effective monitoring of eutrophication in inland water bodies is crucial for environmental management and pollution prevention. This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of in situ hyperspectral reflectance data (400–900 nm) and the trophic state index (TSI) obtained from 365 points across ten lakes and reservoirs in Northern Vietnam to propose a trophic classification based on water reflectance spectra features and a TSI estimation model for diagnosis and assessment of lake trophic status. By analyzing the quantity of reflectance peaks and their heights, our study identifies three distinct water reflectance spectra classes corresponding to three trophic levels: mesotrophic to lightly eutrophic, highly eutrophic, and hypertrophic. This classification enables the quick identification of trophic levels directly at the in situ radiometric measurement sites. Our study demonstrates that a logarithmic function of the band ratio, ${{\mathbf{R}}_{\mathbf{rs}}}( {715} )/{{\mathbf{R}}_{\mathbf{rs}}}( {560} )$, is robust for estimating TSI (${{{\bm{R}}}^2}$ = 0.85 and 0.94; root-mean-square error = 5.0 and 3.7 in calibration and validation, respectively), particularly in algal-dominated waters. These findings represent a practical application of hyperspectral remote sensing for effective eutrophication management. They also highlight the potential use of multispectral optical imagery for monitoring eutrophication in tropical regions.

We report on a study in which two primary school English Language teachers work with researchers to co-design a series of lessons to enhance student agency. 'Tinkering' through digital multimodal composing is used as a pedagogical approach. We reflect on the issues in balancing the student's agency with the teacher's role. Our study is guided by questions on how we can design for student agency through digital multimodal composing and what the considerations to design for student agency are. Our findings suggest that while tinkering offers a useful set of features for the design of a more student-centric English Language classroom, two important considerations need to be taken into account. The first relates to the extent in which the student can make choices; the second relates to the extent of the teacher's guidance in scaffolding the process of digital multimodal composing.

Density functional theory and a semi-empirical quantum chemical approach were used to evaluate the photocatalytic efficiency of ceria (CeO2) combined with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and graphene (GP) for degrading methylene blue (MB). Two main aspects were examined: the adsorption ability of rGO and GP for MB, and the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes in CeO2/rGO and CeO2/GP. Our results, based on calculations of the adsorption energy, population analysis, bond strength index, and reduced density gradient, show favorable energetics for MB adsorption on both rGO and GP surfaces. The process is driven by weak, non-covalent interactions, with rGO showing better MB adsorption. A detailed analysis involving parameters like fractional occupation density, the centroid distance between molecular orbitals, and the Lewis acid index of the catalysts highlights the effective charge separation in CeO2/rGO compared to CeO2/GP. These findings are crucial for understanding photocatalytic degradation mechanisms of organic dyes and developing efficient photocatalysts.

Supplementation of oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids and condensed tannin has been known as a feeding approach to improve healthy fatty acids in ruminant milk, but it can cause an adverse effect on feed intake and animal performance. This study aimed to investigate the effect of feeding oil alone or in combination with grape seed tannin extract (GSTE) on feed intake, milk yield and composition of dairy cows. Sixteen low production dairy cows in mid-lactation fed a basal diet based on agro-industrial by-products were arranged to a completely randomized design for a 6-week duration. Animals were fed basal diet without oil and GSTE inclusion (CON), 2.5% DM soybean oil (SBO), 2.5% DM blend of soybean oil and tuna fish oil at 3:2 w:w (SFO), or SFO plus 0.4% DM GSTE (OCT). The results showed that DM intake was reduced (P < 0.05) by 14.4% in OCT relative to CON. Milk yield was not affected by oil and GSTE supplementation, but SFO and OCT strongly depressed milk fat, protein and total solids (P < 0.001). In conclusion, in a low production cow diet based on agro-industrial by-products containing high lipid, supplementation of oil and GSTE should be considered in the aspects of feed intake and milk composition.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine five Secondary English Language teachers' perceptions and practices of multiliteracies teaching in the context of a decade after multiliteracies was introduced into the English Language syllabus in Singapore. Design/methodology/approach: Adopting a case study approach, the authors observed 12 multiliteracies lessons taught by the five teacher participants across three secondary schools. The classroom data included field notes and video-recordings of the lessons. The authors also conducted pre-lesson and post-lesson interviews with the teachers to understand their beliefs and the rationale behind their classroom practices. The video-recordings of the lessons and audio-recordings of the interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed using thematic coding. Findings: The authors identify an essentialising of multiliteracies to the skills of viewing and representing with multimodal texts, as well as a sense of uncertainty amongst the teachers towards the teaching of multiliteracies. In terms of practices, the authors observed an attempt to connect with the students' life-worlds through the use of authentic materials, but often only in service of language learning. The authors also highlight the constraining influence of assessment on shaping multiliteracies learning. The findings of this study resonate with the conclusions that some of the earlier studies reported on teachers' perceptions and practices of multiliteracies teaching. This resonation suggests perennial issues and challenges which remain unresolved. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited by the number of participants as well as the selected lessons the authors observed. The schools, while selected because they were considered as mid-range public schools in Singapore, were also not representative of all Singapore schools. As such, the authors acknowledge that the generalisability of the findings from this study is limited. Practical implications: The issues raised in this study resonate with the findings from previous studies both from Singapore and around the world. The persistence of these concerns over time and space that remain unresolved demands attention and concerted action from policymakers, curriculum developers and education researchers, to address the challenges in multiliteracies teaching and learning. Originality/value: This study was conducted a decade after the launch of the English Language Syllabus 2010, which first incorporated multiliteracies into the curriculum. This study examines the teachers' perceptions and practices in relation to the policy intent. The implications from this study are relevant to educators interested in integrating multiliteracies in the literacy curriculum internationally.

IntroductionPatient safety is a global challenge of preventing and mitigating medical errors which might harm patients during their course of treatment and care. This study was employed to contribute to the existing literature aimed to assess patient safety culture among health staff and to determine predictors of health staff perceptions of patient safety in hospitals in Vietnam.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted in three hospitals of Vietnam with a total of 763 participants. This study used the Hospital Patient Safety Scale developed by the American Health and Quality Research Organization.ResultsIn general, 8 of 12 patient safety dimensions in two hospital; and 10 of 12 dimensions in a third hospital had average scores of 60% and above positive responses. The communication openness and organizational learning dimensions were found to be significant different when comparing hospitals. Regarding sample characteristics, department (subclinical department) and health staff positions (nurses/technicians, pharmacists) were significant predictors in the total model including three hospitals (R2 = 0.07).ConclusionThis study reported that communication openness and organization learning are two aspects that need to be improved they are strongly related to patient safety culture and to knowledge exchange among health staff. It has been suggested that hospitals should deliver patient safety training courses and establish a supportive learning environment to improve these challenges.

AIMP2-DX2, an exon 2-deleted splice variant of AIMP2 (aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase-interacting multifunctional protein 2), is highly expressed in lung cancer and involved in tumor progression in vivo. Oncogenic function of AIMP2-DX2 and its correlation with poor prognosis of cancer patients have been well established; however, the application of this potentially important biomarker to cancer research and diagnosis has been hampered by a lack of antibodies specific for the splice variant, possibly due to the poor immunogenicity and/or stability of AIMP2-DX2. In this study a monoclonal antibody, H5, that specifically recognizes AIMP2-DX2 and its isoforms was generated via rabbit immunization and phage display techniques, using a short peptide corresponding to the exon 1/3 junction sequence as an antigen. Furthermore, based on mutagenesis, limited cleavage, and mass spectrometry studies, it is also suggested that the endogenous isoform of AIMP2-DX2 recognized by H5 is produced by proteolytic cleavage of 33 amino acids from N-terminus and is capable of inducing cell proliferation similarly to the uncleaved protein. H5 monoclonal antibody is applicable to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, immunoblot, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry, and expected to be a valuable tool for detecting AIMP2-DX2 with high sensitivity and specificity for research and diagnostic purposes.

The study aims to measure entrepreneurship performance of Vietnam in comparison to Asiancountries by applying the Global Entrepreneurship Development Index (GEDI) and then employedthe Penalty for Bottleneck (PFB) methodology to allocate priority policies for the improvement ofentrepreneurship performance in Vietnam. Specifically, the GEDI consisting of three sub-indices:Entrepreneurial Attitudes, Entrepreneurial Abilities and Entrepreneurial Aspiration, which aredivided into 14 pillars and further subdivided into 28 variables, is used to identify the best and worstperforming variables of the GEDI in Vietnam in comparison to Asian countries. Then the PFBmethodology provides a more realistic analysis, aiming to discover bottle-neck factors, which arepoorly performing system components before suggesting recommendations to achieve the greatestimprovement of entrepreneurship performance in Vietnam. The results indicate that ten bottlenecksof 14 pillars are poorly performing with very low scores in Vietnam, in which the top priority policyis given for five pillars, including Risk acceptance, Opportunity perception, Internationalization,Technology absorption and Process innovation.

Multiliteracies has been incorporated in the curriculum of many education systems around the world. Beyond the broadening of focus in literacy to include multimodal meaning-making, multiliteracies pedagogies are also associated with certain pedagogical shifts, such as a focus on bridging the students' out-of-school literacy practices with what and how they are learning in school. This often involves appropriating social media as well as introducing popular culture topics in the classroom. This article discusses the students' perspectives of these ideas to inform the teacher's design of multiliteracies learning. Drawing on data collected through surveys and focus group discussions from a multi-phased research project on multiliteracies in Singapore, we reflect on the students' expressions of their experiences and expectations on multiliteracies learning. In particular, we surface an instrumental view of learning where concerns over examinations and future career prospects cloud the students' learning. We also identify a desire among the students to keep their worlds of home and schools separate. While the discussion of the students' perspectives is anchored in the context of Singapore, the implications contribute to the global discourse among curriculum planners, educational researchers and teacher practitioners who are interested in improving the design of multiliteracies learning in their contexts.

Retroperitoneal ectopic pregnancy (REP) is a rare obstetric condition caused by the mislocalization of the gestational mass. The unexpected location often results in missed or delayed diagnoses, which can complicate the treatment process. We report the case of a 34-year-old Asian woman who presented to the hospital 31 days after embryo transfer with mild vaginal bleeding. A history of bilateral salpingectomies was established. Two operations were performed before we were able to successfully remove the gestational sac from the retroperitoneal cavity. The histologic finding suggested an interesting migration pathway for the pregnancy. REP should be considered when a visible gestational sac cannot be detected on ultrasound in the expected locations, particularly among patients who undergo treatment using assisted reproductive techniques (ART), and have a history of bilateral salpingectomies. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a vital role in diagnosing REP and guiding surgical interventions. A multidisciplinary team is necessary to treat REP, and monitoring beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (βHCG) levels and histologic findings remain essential during follow-up.

Sediment properties such as water content (WC) and grain size (GS) are essential to characterize the environmental conditions of tidal flats. This article aimed to develop appropriate models to estimate the WC and GS of surface sediments for an intertidal flat on the Red river delta (Vietnam) using Sentinel 2A (S2A) images. The spectral reflectance, WC, and GS of 96 sub-samples from 12 sediment samples collected on December 17, 2017 were measured to clarify their relationships. The WC was highly correlated with the reflectance ratio of two shortwave-infrared bands, R(2190)/R(1610) (R2 = 0.93). The median GS (D50) at 0%, 15%, and 20% of WC was significantly correlated with the reflectance ratio of the near-infrared band (842 nm) versus the visible-green band (560 nm) (R2 > 0.78). Next, D50 was estimated from a multivariate regression model using this band ratio, the visible-red band (665 nm), and WC. The accuracy of the models was verified by comparisons with WC and D50 from 20 samples collected on March 12th 2019 (RMSE of both WC and D50 < 15%). Then, the WC and sediment type distributions were mapped by applying these models to two S2A scenes. The maps showed high WC (>30%) in very fine sediments (silts), which is consistent with other intertidal flats with similar sediment types. This article was limited to fine sediment samples. Therefore, our next step is to incorporate coarse sediments into the models to provide more universal mapping of WC and sediment types.

There have been few reports on the imaging characteristics of cryptococcus neoformans (C. neoformans) infection of the breast. Herein, we reported the imaging features of C. neoformans infection of the breast in a 41-year-old woman with immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Bilateral, diffuse, hyperechoic, and well-defined margin lesions were observed on breast ultrasounds. In addition, a global asymmetry in the left breast, and a focal asymmetry in the right breast were observed on mammograms. Breast fine needle aspiration and biopsy results revealed a C. neoformans infection. After 5 months of treatment with oral fluconazole and amphotericin B, the lesion on the right breast disappeared on repeated-breast ultrasounds.

The chemical investigation of Homotrigona apicalis propolis collected in Binh Dinh province, Vietnam, led to the isolation of nine compounds, including four sesquiterpenes: spathulenol (1), 1αH,5βH-aromandendrane-4β,10α-diol (2), 1β,6α-dihydroxy-4(15)-eudesmene (3), and 1βH,5βH-aromandendrane-4α,10β-diol (4); three triterpenes: acetyl oleanolic acid (5), 3α-hydroxytirucalla-8,24-dien-21-oic acid (6), and ursolic acid (7); and two xanthones: cochinchinone A (8) and α-mangostin (9). Sesquiterpens 1–4 and triterpene 6 were isolated for the first time from stingless bee propolis. Plants in the Cratoxylum and Aglaia genus were suggested as resin sources of the propolis sample. In the antibacterial activity evaluation, the EtOH extract only showed moderate activity on S. aureus, while the isolated compounds 7–9 showed good antibacterial activity, with IC50 values of 0.56 to 17.33 µg/mL. The EtOH extract displayed selective cytotoxicity against the A-549 cancer cell line, with IC50 values of 22.82 ± 0.86 µg/mL, and the xanthones 8 and 9 exhibited good activity against the KB, HepG-2, and A-549 cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 7.55 ± 0.25 µg/mL to 29.27 ± 2.07 µg/mL. The cytotoxic effects of xanthones 8 and 9 were determined by the inhibition of the EGFR and HER2 pathways using a molecular docking study. Compounds 8 and 9 displayed strong binding affinity with EFGR and HER2, with values of −9.3 to −9.9 kcal/mol. Compounds 5, 8, and 9 showed potential α-glucosidase inhibitory activities, which were further confirmed by computational studies. The binding energies of compounds 5, 8, and 9 were lower than that of arcabose.

A series of messagenin–based chalcones has been synthesized by Claisen‐Schmidt condensation and screened for in vitro α‐glucosidase inhibitory activity. The heterocyclization of 30‐(3‐pyridinylidene)‐messagenin led to syn/anti N‐acetyl‐pyrazoles in a ratio of 2 : 1 that were isolated by HPLC. Messagenin chalcones act as α‐glucosidase inhibitors with IC50 range from 0.055 to 80.70 μM. The lead nanomolar level α‐glucosidase inhibitor 30‐(4‐hydroxymethyl‐benzylidene)‐messagenin 10 was studied for antihyperglycemic activity on streptozotocin–induced diabetic animal models using in vivo mechanism–based assays. In a rat model of STZ‐induced T1DM, compound 10 (20 mg/kg, orally) exhibited antihyperlipidemic activity, reducing AIP (p>0.05) and CRI (p<0.05) compared to control. BackgroundStevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) is a rare and life-threatening disease of the skin and mucosal surfaces. Although gastrointestinal manifestations in adults are potential prognostic factors for disease severity, there are limited data on such cases and their standard management in the pediatric population.Case PresentationWe herein report the case of an 8-year-old girl with a 1-year history of epilepsy, who presented with bilateral conjunctivitis and progressively widespread bullous, and pruritic eruption based on erythematous skin after administration of carbamazepine. A diagnosis of carbamazepine-induced TEN was made, and the drug was immediately discontinued. The result of genetic screening showed that the patient was positive for the HLA-B*15:02 allele. Then, her condition got worse by developing gastrointestinal involvement, including hematemesis and severe watery bloody diarrhea. A combination of the intravenous immunoglobulin and the appropriate dose of systemic steroids have contributed to a favorable outcome in this case. Multidisciplinary care of mucocutaneous involvement, supplemental nutrition, and fluid replacement was also critically warranted. This report aims to contribute to the current literature on TEN-related gastrointestinal manifestations in pediatrics and highlights the need for further investigations in determining the optimal treatment in such cases.ConclusionIn conclusion, we reported the successful treatment of TEN-related gastrointestinal manifestations in a pediatric patient, which should be critically considered in patients with SJS/TEN. Since it may significantly contribute to the poor prognosis of the illness, further investigations in determining standard management in such cases are necessary.
