Due mainly to the importance of organizational commitment for both employees and employers, it has been the subject attracting researchers over the last few decades. Therefore, the paper aims to build a model of antecedents strengthening organizational commitment. First, the paper reviews six main concepts including organizational commitment, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, employee voice, organizational identification and perceived organizational support. Next, Five-point Likert scale is used to measure those factors with two hundred and forty-nine fulltime Vietnamese employees who are working at 34 Vietnamese organizations from a variety of sectors such as tax, banking, health service, airlines, education and business. Finally, quantitative research is obtained by using EFA, CFA analysis and structural equation modeling. The findings show that three prominent factors positively affecting organizational commitment are intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and organizational identification.

The infant gut microbiome is increasingly recognized as a reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes, yet the assembly of gut resistome in infants and its influencing factors remain largely unknown. We characterized resistome in 4132 metagenomes from 963 infants in six countries and 4285 resistance genes were observed. The inherent resistome pattern of healthy infants (N = 272) could be distinguished by two stages: a multicompound resistance phase (Months 0-7) and a tetracycline-mupirocin-β-lactam-dominant phase (Months 8-14). Microbial taxonomy explained 40.7% of the gut resistome of healthy infants, with Escherichia (25.5%) harboring the most resistance genes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some perceptions of Asian Americans in the United States shifted as anti-Asian hate crimes escalated. However, little is known about how these shifting views manifest in K-12 schools. This qualitative case study uses Asian critical race theory to examine how two Southeast Asian American students faced exclusion and erasure before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and how their Southeast Asian American teacher advocated for them at a public elementary school in the Pacific Northwest. Implications include how researchers can pursue inquiries about Asian American students' holistic development and how in-service and pre-service teachers can address anti-Asian xenophobia.

Our current understanding suggests that nutrient management strategies applied to agricultural soils over multiple years are required to cause major and stable shifts in soil microbial communities. However, some studies suggest that agricultural soils can benefit even from sporadic, single additions of organic matter. Here we investigate how single additions of high-quality organic matter can cause significant shifts in microbial soil communities over multiple cropping cycles. We grew radishes in a tropical Oxisol soil for six crop cycles after a single application of a high-nitrogen compost or urea. At planting and before biomass harvest, we sampled soils influenced by the radish rhizosphere and sequenced bacterial and archaeal 16S and fungal ITS rDNA marker genes. We measured microbial richness and diversity, community composition and structure, and constructed correlation networks to predict cross-domain microbial interactions. We found that a single application of compost, compared to urea or control, resulted in a persistent improved plant biomass response and led to sustained changes in the soil microbial community throughout the duration of the 227-day study. Compost altered the structure of both the fungal and prokaryotic microbial communities, introduced new microorganisms that persisted in the resident soil system, and altered soil microbial correlation network structure and hub taxa. In contrast, fertilization with urea did not significantly alter the structure of soil microbial communities compared to the control but reduced network complexity and altered hub taxa. This study highlights the significant impacts that high-quality organic matter fertilization can exert on agricultural soil microbiomes and adds to the growing body of knowledge on using organic fertilizers as a way to steer the soil microbiome toward a healthier soil.

Studying the signatures of evolution can help to understand genetic processes. Here, we demonstrate how the existence of balancing selection can be used to identify the breeding systems of fungi from genomic data. The breeding systems of fungi are controlled by self-incompatibility loci that determine mating types between potential mating partners, resulting in strong balancing selection at the loci. Within the fungal phylum Basidiomycota, two such self-incompatibility loci, namely HD MAT locus and P/R MAT locus, control mating types of gametes. Loss of function at one or both MAT loci results in different breeding systems and relaxes the MAT locus from balancing selection. By investigating the signatures of balancing selection at MAT loci, one can infer a species breeding system without culture-based studies. Nevertheless, the extreme sequence divergence among MAT alleles imposes challenges for retrieving full variants from both alleles when using the conventional read-mapping method. Therefore, we employed a combination of read-mapping and local de novo assembly to construct haplotypes of HD MAT alleles from genomes in suilloid fungi (genera Suillus and Rhizopogon). Genealogy and pairwise divergence of HD MAT alleles showed that the origins of mating types predate the split between these two closely related genera. High sequence divergence, trans-specific polymorphism, and the deeply diverging genealogy confirm the long-term functionality and multiallelic status of HD MAT locus in suilloid fungi. This work highlights a genomics approach to studying breeding systems regardless of the culturability of organisms based on the interplay between evolution and genetics.

Such a relationship not only addresses labor challenges for businesses but also enables universities to enhance the quality of human resource training and transition towards more effective and efficient organizational structures and management. This approach adds value to learners' experiences. Additionally, students have the opportunity to learn, practice, and gain hands-on experience in real-life work environments at production facilities and businesses during their studies. This exposure helps them apply classroom knowledge in practical settings and develop professional skills early on. In conclusion, fostering cooperation between universities and businesses is an effective strategy for promoting mutual development and addressing common interests.

One of the first steps in the retinal image preprocessing is cropping the Field of View (FOV) area and scaling it into a template of a predefined size. Fundus cameras of different producers record digital images of the retina of various sizes, and the FOV area containing helpful information can be from 43 to 98% of the image area. For automated analysis of retinal images and detection of DR, it is necessary to segment the FOV region and cut it out from the image. This is important to preserve microaneurysms and small capillaries in the retinal image as much as possible, since neural network methods always reduce the original images to a predefined size. In this paper, we propose a universal method for FOV segmentation based on the ideas of histograms and thresholds. We compared 11 methods for segmenting FOV regions on the four most commonly used retinal image grayscale representations. In total, we compared 35 variants of segmentation and evaluated the obtained results by four functions: Jaccard index, Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC), accuracy and balanced accuracy. All options were tested on 7000 images from nine of the largest databases. The images were generated by 100 different fundus cameras. The following observations have been extracted through extensive comparative experiments namely: 1) segmentation of the FOV area should be performed on the grayscale image obtained from the red channel; 2) for more accurate segmentation, a logarithmic transformation should be applied to the grayscale image; 3) the FOV area mask can be segmented by a global threshold calculated by Otsu’s method; 4) global thresholding based on analysis of histogram peaks does not provide advantages over binarization by Otsu’s method applied to the logarithmic transformation of the image.

Education for sustainable development recognizes the ways, in which teachers improve education, by utilizing their skills to the fullest extent and reconsidering the conditions of the teaching profession. The relationship between teachers' professional identity and teachers' emotions is an issue that needs to be studied as a basis for improving the effectiveness of their professional activities. Thus, a standardized questionnaire was used to describe the characteristics of Vietnamese secondary teachers and the influence of teacher professional identity (TPI) on working emotions. The study was conducted in Vietnam using two survey instruments aimed to determine the role of TPI contribution in the different dimensions of teachers' emotions (anger, fear, joy, love and sadness). Findings revealed that a higher level of TPI social dimension was among participating Vietnamese teachers, and a lower level was towards career with negative emotions such as anger, fear and sadness. In addition, higher levels of the institutional dimension of TPI were associated with lower levels of teachers' feeling of joy in their career; and when the level of the personal dimension of TPI was higher, teachers' sense of love towards their profession was higher. Three implications of the study are proposed to help promote teacher identity, in ways that contribute to positive emotion in executing their teaching task. In other words, when teachers had a higher motivation, satisfaction, and commitment, they could perceive teaching as a noble job and be full of positivity. This made teachers ready for professional development in compliance with sustainability education goals.

Antimicrobials are a core aspect of most livestock production systems, especially in low-and middle-income countries. They underpin the efficient use of scarce feed resources and stabilize returns on capital and labor inputs. Antimicrobial use (AMU) contributes to the production of healthy animals, yet AMU in livestock is linked to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in animals, humans and the environment.The Vietnamese Platform for Antimicrobial Reduction in Chicken Production was implemented during 2016–2019 and was one of Southeast Asia's first interventions focused on AMU reductions in livestock production. The project targeted small-scale commercial poultry farms in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam using a “randomized before-and-after controlled” study design. It provided farmers with a locally adapted support service (farmer training plan, advisory visits, biosecurity, and antimicrobial replacement products) to help them reduce their reliance on antimicrobials. A partial budget analysis was performed comparing the control group (status-quo) and intervention group (alternative). The median net farm-level benefit of the intervention strategies with the project's support was VND 6.78 million (interquartile range (IR) VND -71.9–89 million) per farm. Without project support the benefit was reduced to VND 5.1 million (IR VND -69.1–87.2 million) to VND 5.3 million (IR -VND 68.9–87.5 million) depending on the antimicrobial alternative product used. At the project level with a focus on AMU and its reduction, subsequently influence on the resistance reduction, our results showed that achieving resistance reduction benefits with the current knowledge and technologies required investment of at least VND 9.1 million (US$ 395.10) per farm during the project's lifetime. The results highlight the positive net profit for the majority of enrolled farms and a reasonable investments from the project. The recommendation focuses on the implementation of policies on financial support, legislation, and information as potential solutions to facilitate the application of intervention strategies to reduce AMU in poultry production.

Utilizing thermochemical reactions for thermal energy storage and solar fuel production has been an emerging research topic. Thermal transport properties of the materials are an important parameter that can determine the kinetics and efficiency of thermochemical reactions. With the increasing number of new thermochemical materials (TCMs); however, there is a lack of reliable techniques to monitor the thermal transport property of the materials and their changes as a function of reactions in real time. In this work, we report the in situ monitoring of thermochemical reactions using modulated photothermal radiometry (MPR). The thermal conductivities of two TCMs, namely, calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and Ba0.15Sr0.85FeO3−δ (BSF1585), were measured as a function of temperature and time using the MPR technique. The measured thermal conductivities were correlated to the reaction. The work has two significant contributions to the research communities. First, it provides a non-invasive diagnostic tool for monitoring the thermal transport properties of TCMs that can potentially be a high-throughput measurement technique conducive to optimizing TCMs, reactors, and related thermal systems. Second, for TCMs that show observable changes in thermal transport properties, a correlation between the measured thermal conductivity and the conversion fraction of the reaction can be established for monitoring the reaction kinetics based on thermal characterization. Research and societal trends indicate the necessity and permanency of teamwork skills in the workplace thus investigating the relationship between satisfaction and students' experiences of team and group work is essential. Taking a novel and comprehensive approach the current research study examined the effect of multiple antecedent conditions on undergraduate project team satisfaction. Specifically, a structural model was proposed and tested to examine the effects of clarity, justice, frustration, and fit on project team satisfaction. The model was able to predict 52.7% of the variance associated with project team satisfaction. Among the predictor variables clarity had the largest total (direct and indirect) effect on satisfaction. Frustration was found to have the next largest total effect. Consequently, agricultural educators are encouraged to first focus on clearly articulating the expectations associated with project teams as well as to monitor project teams for emerging frustration and to intervene as appropriate.
