Prostatic stromal sarcoma (PSS) is a rare malignant tumor that often occurs in young people. Despite the fact that their clinical pathological characteristics are well known, our understanding of the imaging characteristics still seems to be limited. In our search of the literature, PSS articles are mainly present as case reports. In this case series of PSS, we aimed to thoroughly describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features, histopathological findings, and distinguishing hallmarks from prostate cancer (PCA).

Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a rare benign tumor that arises from connective tissue, prominently located in the vulva, vagina, perineum, and pelvis and is mainly found in women aged about 20-40 years old. Giant intraabdominal tumors have rarely been described. These tumors develop slowly over time and are often difficult to diagnose due to various clinical findings, especially in the early stages. Even though surgery is the primary treatment method, the possibility of complete resection is sometimes limited because the tumor tends to infiltrate nearby structures, leading to local recurrence. Only about 10% of AAM cases can be accurately diagnosed before treatment, which causes ineffective outcomes. This article demonstrates a case of giant intra-abdominal AAM precisely diagnosed by suspicious signs on CT and MRI scans before starting treatment.

Blunt esophageal injury is an unusual organ injury that has unclear clinical symptoms due to the overlap of thoracoabdominal trauma in the setting of multiple traumas. The treatment options vary depending on the patient's clinical symptoms, the extent of esophageal damage, and the time from the onset of damage to diagnosis. This article presents a case of a young male patient receiving emergency treatment after a traffic accident. Esophageal perforation was diagnosed through chest computed tomography with contrast injection and oral contrast. The article focuses on imaging characteristics and suggestive signs of blunt esophageal injury in the setting of multitrauma.

Synovial sarcoma (SS) is an uncommon malignant tumor, ranking third in prevalence within the soft tissue sarcomas group. The vast majority of synovial sarcomas are present in the extremities, with only 15% developing in the retroperitoneal space. Retroperitoneal synovial sarcoma (RSS) is an infrequent case of SS, with only about 20 cases reported in the literature. Diagnosing RSS before treatment remains challenging because of its nonspecific clinical symptoms. The disease is often detected at a later stage, leading to additional damage to other organs as well as complicated and ineffective treatment. Consequently, the 5-year survival rate is only 20%-29%. This report introduces a case of RSS in a 19-year-old male patient with imaging characteristics on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR).

Posterior interosseous nerve syndrome (PINs) is a rare nerve compression syndrome that affects the deep branch of the radial nerve in the supinator muscle region. In this article, we aimed to report a case of a 58-year-old male who had clinical symptoms, electromyographic, ultrasound, and MRI features suggestive of PINs due to compressing the arcade of Frohse. He subsequently underwent surgical correlation at our hospital, and the clinical symptoms were improved significantly.

Basal ganglia germinomas (BGGs) are rare lesions. Because of the atypical features of early-stage clinical symptoms and imaging characteristics, BGGs are easily misdiagnosed with non-tumorous conditions. This article presented cases of 2 young male patients who came to the hospital due to right arm weakness. Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images in the first case revealed a lobulated mixed component mass on the left basal ganglia. The solid part showed restricted diffusion on diffusion-weighted imaging, heterogeneous strong enhancement, and no signal of calcification or bleeding. The second case in the left putamen showed hypointensity on T2*, mild enhancement, and atrophy of the ipsilateral cerebral peduncle, increased choline, and decreased n-acetyl-aspartate (NAA) on spectroscopy. Follow-up MRI after 6 months showed a mass increase in size and hypointensity part on T2*. BGGs have been confirmed on biopsy in both cases. With isolated chemotherapy application, there is no sign of remission in the first patient. The second patient was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and MRI images after treatment showed a complete response.

Accidental fish bone ingestion is a common manifestation at emergency departments. In most cases, ingested foreign bodies usually pass uneventfully through the gastrointestinal tract and complications only present in less than 5% of all patients. In this report, we present the first documented case of pulmonary artery injury due to a fish bone in a 63-year-old male patient hospitalized with hemoptysis after accidentally swallowing a fish bone 30 days ago. This patient subsequently had surgery and endoscopy to safely remove the foreign body and then recovered well on a follow-up examination. For cases of fish bone ingestion, contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography is one of the most essential tools to assess vascular problems and associated mediastinal infections-risk factors for life-threatening and long-term recurrent inflammation. Reconstructing planes along the foreign body axis and changing windows when analyzing CT scans is necessary to avoid missing lesions and dilemmas.

We determined the value of computed tomography perfusion (CTP) for assessing the response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). 20 post-TACE HCC patients were re-evaluated with contrast-enhanced computed tomography and CTP. Patients with persistent arterial vascularization [non-response (NR)] or those with no arterial vascularization in the mass, but with signs of new nodules, underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA), which was used to analyze image characteristics and CTP parameters of TACE-treated HCC. 27 post-TACE HCC masses (mean size 4.21 cm, range 2-6.5 cm) were observed in the 20 patients. The values yielded by CTP were 78.30±40.41 mL/min/100g and 33.67±38.74 mL/min/100g for hepatic arterial blood flow (HABF) and 51.40±17.80% and 25.60±26.53% for hepatic arterial fraction (HAF) in the NR group and complete response group, respectively. The NR group’s cutoff value of HABF was ≥55.95 mL/min/100g, with a sensitivity of 91.7% and specificity of 71.42%, and that of HAF was ≥32.55%, with a sensitivity of 92.3% and specificity of 83.33%. The CTP and DSA techniques showed high agreement in assessing the post-TACE responses of liver tumors (κ=0.872). The perfusion parameters HABF and HAF have high value for assessing post-TACE responses of HCC.

Lymphangiomas are rare benign lymphatic malformations. Even though these neoplasms can arise from any location and age, most of them are dominant in the head and neck of children. On the other hand, lymphangiomas are exceedingly rare in adults, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal tract lymphangiomas account for only about 1% of lymphatic malformations. Although there have been increasing cases of gastrointestinal lymphangiomas reported in recent years, cecal lymphangiomas causing intussusception in adults are rarely mentioned. In this article, we report a 27-year-old female patient with cecal lymphangiomas detected by imaging modalities and confirmed via postoperative histopathological examination.

Osteoarticular tuberculosis is less common than pulmonary tuberculosis and is often overlooked in the differential diagnosis of people with joint disease. In this article, we present a case of a 71-year-old female patient admitted to the hospital because of pain and limited movement of her right shoulder for a year. The patient had diabetes for 10 years, and no history of tuberculosis or previous history of tuberculosis exposure. Blood test results showed inflammatory condition and positive IGRA test. X-ray, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging images revealed osteolytic and sclerotic lesions of the humeral head, diffuse thickening of the synovial membrane, and loose bodies in the joint and bursa. The clinical diagnosis was tuberculous inflammatory osteoarthritis of the right shoulder. The patient underwent arthroscopy surgery to remove loose bodies and the inflamed portion of the synovium and send them to the pathology department. Histopathological examination of the loose bodies and synovial membrane revealed features suggestive of tuberculosis of the shoulder joint. Afterward, the patient was treated with antituberculosis drugs according to the guideline and rehabilitation exercises. After 3 months of treatment, the clinical symptoms were reduced, the pain rating was decreased and the range of motion was increased.

Splenic ectopic pregnancy (SEP) is a rare high-mortality condition, particularly relating to life-threatening intraperitoneal bleeding due to a high risk of spontaneous rupture. Diagnosing in a timely fashion is extremely crucial and the patients could benefit from active treatment strategies and early management. In this article, we reviewed a case of 40 years-old female who complained of lower quadrant abdominal pain and amenorrhea with a history of intrauterine device (IUD) insertion for over 6 years. Elevating b-human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) blood levels were documented, raising concern about pregnancy-related emergency conditions. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging results suggested a splenic ectopic pregnancy entity with a high rupture rate. The patient subsequently underwent laparoscopic resection for splenic mass removal. Ectopic pregnancy should cautiously be excluded in all cases of abdominal pain in childbearing-age women.

Glioma has been previously known as the most common adult brain tumor. Glioma of the optic pathway is predominated by low-grade neoplasms. High-grade glioma in adults is extremely rare. In this study, we present the case of a 46-year-old male patient who developed glioblastoma of the optic chiasm extending along the optic tract. This study aims to discuss several common differential diagnoses of nontumor diffuse lesions in the optic pathway and their clinical symptoms and magnetic resonance imaging findings, which could help navigate management.

Lower gastrointestinal tract bleeds due to appendiceal hemorrhage are extremely rare. This emergency condition requires a multidisciplinary approach to not only give a prompt diagnosis and exclude differential diagnosis but also crucial to proceed with proper intervention and cause of bleeding. In this paper, we report a case of appendiceal hemorrhage in a young male patient who presented with lower gastrointestinal bleeding. The patient was diagnosed with appendiceal hemorrhage by an abdominal computed tomography scan and gastrointestinal tract endoscopy. Postsurgical follow-up was uneventful, and the histopathology confirmed hemorrhagic and no typical inflammatory signs. It suggested that although appendiceal hemorrhage was rare, this condition should be considered one of the causes of lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

Of 6%-8%, cerebral tumors are intracranial schwannomas, also known as neurinomas, which frequently arise from the nerve sheath. Eighth cranial nerve (CN VIII), also known as the vestibulocochlear nerve, is the site of genesis of the majority of schwannomas, which account for 80%-90% of cerebellopontine angle tumors. In this paper, we intended to describe an uncommon cystic vestibular schwannoma with multiple fluid-fluid levels. Surgical excision was performed using the translabyrinthine approach. The report highlights schwannomas’ adherence to and invasion of adjacent anatomical structures. We discuss a number of differential diagnoses, the pathophysiology of fluid-fluid levels, and the imaging features of cystic vestibular schwannomas.

Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF) is a rare, benign type of ossifying fibroma. JPOFs predominantly present as rapidly growing masses with a high recurrence rate. We report a 40-year-old male patient who suffered from a large tumor with multiple invasions into the paranasal sinuses. Total excision was performed, and significant relief of clinical symptoms was recorded after 4 months of follow-up. Multi-departmental management involving radiologists, neurology surgeons, craniofacial surgeons, pathologists, and otolaryngologists is vital for JPOF treatment. First-line treatment options include total or partial resection, depending on the patient's condition.

Abstract Background Medulloblastoma is well known as the most common malignant brain tumor identified in children, frequently found at an intra-axial location in the posterior cranial fossa. Extra-axial medulloblastoma is uncommon and often misdiagnosed. We believe that a thorough understanding of atypical medulloblastoma cases is important in daily practice. Case presentation We present the unique case of a 39-year-old woman of Asian descent who suffered from headaches and right-sided hearing impairment. A right extra-axial medulloblastoma with an extremely low apparent diffusion coefficient of 0.404 × 10−3 mm2/second was detected on magnetic resonance imaging. The initial diagnosis suggested schwannoma or hemangioblastoma. However, the postoperative histopathologic findings indicated medulloblastoma (World Health Organization grade IV). Pre- and postoperative magnetic resonance imaging revealed no drop metastasis, but adjuvant radiation therapy was still required as a standard treatment therapy Conclusions Extra-axial medulloblastoma is an uncommon tumor that is often mistaken for other cerebellopontine angle neoplasms. We describe a rare example of extra-axial medulloblastoma, characterized by a low apparent diffusion coefficient. When evaluating an atypical cerebellopontine angle neoplasm, the apparent diffusion coefficient should be considered a relevant indicator.

In this study, CsPb1–x MnxBr3–2x Cl2x (x = 0–0.5) nanoparticles were synthesized directly in toluene solvents at high temperature. This approach results in small-size nanoparticles, which can be used in photoelectric components without adding a filtration process to eliminate high-temperature solvents such as octadecene. The high content Mn2+-incorporated CsPb(Cl/Br)3 host is observed by strongly wideband emission at 592 nm of manganese d-states spin and orbital forbidden transition. After infiltration into mesoporous TiO2, the Mn2+ ion receives energy from the CsPb(Cl/Br)3 host (irradiated 405 nm light-emitting diode source) and effectively transfers to the TiO2 scaffold layer. As a result, a metal/semiconductor/metal planar structure photodetector with m-TiO2/CsPb1–x MnxBr3–2x Cl2x (x = 0–0.5) composite showed several figures of merit compared to bare m-TiO2 and m-TiO2/CsPbBr3 such as on/off ratio of 104 times, responsivity of 1.67 A·W−1, and detectivity of 4.42 × 109 Jones. The key factors contributing to the growth of the on/off ratio include the decreasing dark current and enhancing exciton energy and transportation due to the infiltration of CsPb1–x MnxBr3–2x Cl2x (x = 0–0.5) perovskite quantum dots into mesopores of the m-TiO2 scaffold layer.

Gastric injury due to trauma is a rare complication that occurs in approximately 0.04%-1.2% of all instances of abdominal trauma. When imaging trauma cases, certain areas can be obscured by several inevitable reasons. Despite its rarity, the high mortality rate of a gastric injury requires an early and accurate diagnosis. We present the case of an 18-year-old male who suffered a gastric rupture of the greater curvature following a road traffic collision before providing a brief review of the literature.

Phlebosclerotic colitis (PC), also known as idiopathic mesenteric phlebosclerosis, is a rare disease resulting in ischemic colon due to venous sclerosis and calcifications that can be identified by characteristic imaging features on computed tomography and colonoscopy. Clinical examination reveals nonspecific symptoms with slow progression in the majority of cases. Patients with PC often require late-stage hospitalization and colectomy. We report a 79-year-old man with long-term clinical symptoms who used herbal medicines. Computed tomography and colonoscopy studies revealed several classical PC characteristics, and the patient subsequently underwent emergency total colectomy.

Intra-abdominal solitary fibrous tumor (SFT), also known as hemangiopericytoma, is rare, especially for those with a mesenteric location, and only a few cases have been reported. Distinguishing a hemangiopericytoma from other intra-abdominal benign or malignant tumors can be difficult, as they have similar presentations on both computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In the present study, the records for a 31-year-old Vietnamese woman who underwent abdominal surgery for greater omental tumor resection and received histopathological results revealing SFT are retrospectively reviewed. The case is discussed and similar reported cases are reviewed. Due to the aggressive behavior and high rate of postoperative recurrence associated with SFT, a thorough understanding of the radiologic and histopathological features of the disease is necessary to achieve an appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Gliosarcoma (GS) is an uncommon central nervous system tumor with several characteristics of a malignant neoplasm and poor prognosis. The majority of GS reports describe a predilection for the cerebral hemispheres, and cases of intraventricular GS are extremely rare, with only a few reported. In addition, intraventricular GS has not been associated with any unique radiographic or clinical features, which can result in misdiagnosis as other intraventricular tumor types. In this report, we present the case of a 32-year-old woman with GS in the trigone of the lateral ventricle and provide a retrospective review of similar, previously reported cases.

Chordoid gliomas are uncommon neoplasms located within the anterior portion of the third ventricle. In this article, we aimed to describe the clinical presentation, magnetic resonance imaging characteristics, histological findings, and surgical treatment applied to a case of chordoid glioma. Chordoid gliomas are typically observed as solid masses within the anterior segment of the third ventricle, characterized by homogenous and vivid enhancement. Despite being classified as a low-grade neoplasm, the outcome of choroid glioma is often uncertain.

In this study, the aim is to investigate and predict the compressive strength of geopolymer concrete (GPC). The effects of curing method, curing time and concrete age on the compressive strength of GPC were evaluated experimentally. Four curing methods, namely room temperature (25°C), mobile dryer (50°C), heating cabinet type 1 (80°C) and heating cabinet type 2 (100°C) were adopted. Additionally, three curing times, of 8 h, 16 h and 24 h, as well as three concrete ages, of 7 days, 14 days and 28 days, were considered. To predict the compressive strength of GPC, 679 test results were collected to develop various machine learning models. The test results indicated that increasing the curing temperature, curing time and concrete age all led to improvements in the compressive strength of GPC. The mobile dryer showed promise as a curing method for cast-in-place GPC. The proposed machine learning models demonstrated good predictive capacity for the compressive strength of GPC with relatively high accuracy. Through sensitivity analysis, concrete age was identified as the most influential variable affecting the final compressive strength of GPC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
