This paper reports on curriculum analysis of climate change expectations in Canada's provincial curricula. The research is focused on curriculum policy in Canadian provinces; however, it pertains to an international audience as Article 12 of the Paris Agreement, the international treaty on climate mitigation, adaptation and finance, calls for signatories to "enhance climate change education," and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have called for environmental education to be a core curriculum component by 2025, which will require all countries to evaluate and improve their curricula globally. Curriculum policy within Canada has not yet been aligned with these policy calls, and our analysis showed fractured and uneven inclusion of climate change. Data findings present explicit climate change education curriculum expectations for each province according to grade, subject, and mandatory versus elective courses. The review shows uneven inclusion of climate change topics, themes, and units within grade 7-12 curricula, with most expectations occurring in elective senior secondary courses. A second level of analysis with a ranking tool indicates shallow inclusion. The paper concludes with recommendations for addressing gaps.

Objective Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) was introduced in Viet Nam in 2017, but data on oral PrEP preference and effective use beyond 3 months are limited. We aimed to evaluate PrEP preferences for PrEP, factors influencing uptake, choice and effective use, as well as barriers to PrEP.Methods This is a prospective cohort study in Can Tho, Viet Nam. Participants who were eligible for PrEP and provided informed consent were interviewed at baseline on demographic information, willingness to pay, reasons for choosing their PrEP regimen and the anticipated difficulties in taking PrEP and followed up at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after PrEP initiation.Findings Between May 2020 and April 2021, 926 individuals at substantial risk for HIV initiated PrEP. Of whom 673 (72.7%) choose daily PrEP and 253 (27.3%) choose event-driven (ED)-PrEP. The majority of participants were men (92.7%) and only 6.8% were women and 0.5% were transgender women. Median participant age was 24 years (IQR 20–28) and 84.7% reported as exclusively same-sex relationship. The three most common reasons for choosing daily PrEP were effectiveness (24.3%) and unplanning for sex (22.9%). Those opting for ED-PrEP also cited effectiveness (22.7%), as well as convenience (18.0%) and easier effective use (12.0%). Only 7.8% of PrEP users indicated they were unwilling to pay for PrEP and 76.4% would be willing to pay if PrEP were less than US$15 per month. The proportion of user effectively using PrEP at 12 months was 43.1% and 99.2% in daily PrEP and ED-PrEP users, respectively.Conclusions ED-PrEP was preferred by more than a quarter of 23.5% of the participants and there was little concern about potential adverse events. High rates of effective use were reported by ED-PrEP users. Future research to inform implementation of PrEP in Viet Nam is needed to develop ways of measuring adherence to ED-PrEP more accurately and to understand and address difficulties in taking daily PrEP use.

Background: Uncontrolled blood pressure is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy offers a promising approach to addressing this challenge by providing a convenient single-tablet solution that enhances the effectiveness of blood pressure control. In our systematic review, we assess the effectiveness of perindopril/amlodipine FDC in managing blood pressure.Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search across four primary electronic databases, namely, PubMed, Virtual Health Library (VHL), Global Health Library (GHL), and Google Scholar, as of 8 February 2022. Additionally, we performed a manual search to find relevant articles. The quality of the selected articles was evaluated using the Study Quality Assessment Tools (SQAT) checklist from the National Institute of Health and the ROB2 tool from Cochrane.Results: Our systematic review included 17 eligible articles. The findings show that the use of perindopril/amlodipine FDC significantly lowers blood pressure and enhances the quality of blood pressure control. Compared to the comparison group, the perindopril/amlodipine combination tablet resulted in a higher rate of blood pressure response and normalization. Importantly, perindopril/amlodipine FDC contributes to improved patient adherence with minimal side effects. However, studies conducted to date have not provided assessments of the cost-effectiveness of perindopril/amlodipine FDC.Conclusion: In summary, our analysis confirms the effectiveness of perindopril/amlodipine FDC in lowering blood pressure, with combination therapy outperforming monotherapy and placebo. Although mild adverse reactions were observed in a small subset of participants, cost-effectiveness assessments for this treatment remain lacking in the literature.

Students in the Library and Information Science concentration at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto, are being taught the Information Horizon Interview (IHI). By learning this technique, students are able to conduct original information behavior research upon a topic or population of their choice. This article provides a succinct overview of the IHI. It then reports on an IHI assignment and learning experience with enough detail and resources to enable turnkey adoption by other LIS educators.

This research arose out of conversations among climate change education instructors teaching at Lakehead University and our shared interest to better understand student experiences in our courses, with the intention of informing pedagogical decisions around course design and content. Data were collected from students at the end of seven courses through a mixed methods approach consisting of an online questionnaire (n = 55), which allowed participant segmentation using the Six Americas Framework, and follow-up semi-structured interviews (n = 22). The questionnaire collected students' self-reported levels of knowledge and understanding, sense of urgency, and sense of agency related to climate change, which are shared learning goals across our courses, as well as responses to open-ended questions on student experiences within the courses. In the interviews, participants were asked to elaborate on these themes. Participants reported increased knowledge, a heightened sense of urgency and strengthened sense of agency—including describing individual and collective changes they made following the course. We engage with the empirical data and present our critical reflections as instructors on course elements and design, encouraging others to teach climate change education in initial teacher education. Amides are one of the most important functional groups since they are the backbones of essential biomolecules such as peptides, proteins, and nucleic acids and are also found in pharmaceuticals, polymers, and bioactive compounds. In this study, we developed a novel visible-light-induced oxidative amidation of aldehydes catalyzed by copper(II) bromide. In particular, reactions of aldehydes with O-benzoyl hydroxylamines were conducted in the presence of TBHP as an oxidant and CuBr2 as a catalyst at room temperature under the irradiation of visible light. Using the process, a wide scope of amides was successfully prepared in high yields, indicating a promising approach to synthesize amides under mild conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to find out the current state of the high-class apartment market. Qualitative research is done to adjust and supplement the observed variables for the scale. Quantitative research is conducted through a survey of customers who have bought a high-class apartment or are intending to buy an apartment to build a research model and test the scale. After collecting data, the study conducted the descriptive statistical analysis, testing the reliability of scale. Then, the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was performed to group the related factors into groups of factors that are independent. The research results showed that there are eight main groups of factors with 31 related observational variables that affected customers' decisions to choose high-class apartments.

Halogenation is one of the most important transformations in organic synthesis. Halogenated compounds are employed in many reactions to prepare useful molecules. Many methods have been developed to introduce halogens into different compounds. Visible light‐mediated reactions are the efficient, low‐toxic, and mild‐condition methods applied for various organic chemistry transformations. Remarkably, there has been an increasing development in the application of visible light‐induced halogenation in recent years. The majority of solid tumors have hypoxia, or low oxygen levels, which is one of the hallmarks of cancer. Hypoxia was found to relate to cancer metastases and resistance to therapies, therefore, detection of hypoxia plays an important role in the process of cancer prognosis and treatment. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a non-invasive imaging technique using gamma-emitting radiopharmaceuticals to visualize biological activities within the body. SPECT is also applied for the detection of tumor hypoxia with the development of hypoxia-targeting radiopharmaceuticals. Radiopharmaceuticals containing nitroimidazole moieties have received increasing attention due to their bio-reducible characteristics which make the radiopharmaceuticals accumulate in the hypoxia regions. This review summarizes the recent development of 99mTc-labeled radiopharmaceuticals bearing nitroimidazoles for SPECT imaging of tumor hypoxia including the synthetic methods and results of animal studies. This paper demonstrates a dynamic, collaborative, and dialogic strategy for guiding students (and experienced researcher teams) through rudimentary forms of visual analysis using draw-and-write datasets. The approach identifies five sequential stages of the visual analysis process and further delineates twenty activities therein. Akin to the instructional "calls" spoken during square dancing, a leader with a script verbally prompts participants through a series of observational and analytical exercises and poses discussion questions along the way. The interactive experience unfolds stepwise and engenders in participants a feeling of intimacy with the images; introduces an array of analytical lenses; gives rise to discoveries about the concept being studied visually; kindles "esprit de corps"; and is fun. To encourage the adoption of this approach--called (i)Square Dancing--a blueprint for a student-geared, draw-and-write study and the leader's script are provided for educators and scholars alike to borrow and customize to their own courses, research questions, and disciplines.

This study aimed to evaluate the susceptibility of whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) to Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a causative agent of acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease at different salinities. Experimental shrimp were stocked at 40 individuals/tank containing 40 L of 15 ppt seawater. Salinities in the experimental tanks were adjusted to 10, 20, 25, 30, and 35 ppt, and remaining tanks (15 ppt) used as controls. The water temperature was maintained at 28°C. Three days after acclimatization to different salinities, shrimp were challenged with V. parahaemolyticus. Ten days after challenge, shrimp growing in 35 ppt salinity showed higher cumulative mortality than shrimp growing in 10 ppt. No significant difference occurred among the groups exposed to 15, 20, 25, and 30 ppt salinity. The median lethal time of challenged shrimp was 25.31 ± 4.06 hours at 35 ppt and significantly shorter than at 10 ppt (161.19 ± 4.60 hours) and at 15 ppt (91.30 ± 4.25 hours). The results suggest that whiteleg shrimp juveniles are more susceptible to V. parahaemolyticus when reared at 35 ppt salinity than at lower salinities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
