This paper examines the metaphors used in media discourses related to flood disasters in Malaysia from 2014-2017 in various media discourses. Flood disaster has become a serious challenge and problem to all Malaysians. The theoretical framework used in this study is Lakoff’s Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The methodological framework is Charteris-Black’s method of analysing metaphors in media discourses. The materials used in this study are news articles from various public media in Malaysia. This paper argues that the media used metaphors to reduce the anger and impact of the citizens. Besides, the metaphors are used to ingrain the idea that flood is not man-made but the wrath of Mother Nature. The conclusion of this article is to present the way media portrays flood disaster to the public. The paper contributes to the gap of the argument in authentic reporting about flood disasters in Malaysian media.

Modified Dark Matter (MDM) is a phenomenological model of dark matter, inspired by gravitational thermodynamics, that naturally accounts for the universal acceleration constant observed in galactic rotation curve data; a critical acceleration related to the cosmological constant, $\Lambda$, appears as a phenomenological manifestation of MDM. We show that the resulting mass profiles, which are sensitve to $\Lambda$, are consistent with observations at the galactic and galaxy cluster scales. Our results suggest that dark matter mass profiles contain information about the cosmological constant in a non-trivial way.

Modi ed dark matter (MDM) is a phenomenological model of dark matter, inspired by gravitational thermodynamics. For an accelerating Universe with positive cosmological constant ( ), such phenomenological considerations lead to the emergence of a critical acceleration parameter related to . Such a critical acceleration is an effective phenomenological manifestation of MDM, and it is found in correlations between dark matter and baryonic matter in galaxy rotation curves. The resulting MDM mass profiles, which are sensitive to , are consistent with observational data at both the galactic and cluster scales. In particular, the same critical acceleration appears both in the galactic and cluster data fits based on MDM. Furthermore, using some robust qualitative arguments, MDM appears to work well on cosmological scales, even though quantitative studies are still lacking. Finally, we comment on certain non-local aspects of the quanta of modified dark matter, which may lead to novel non-particle phenomenology and which may explain why, so far, dark matter detection experiments have failed to detect dark matter particles.

We elaborate on our proposal regarding a connection between global physics and local galactic dynamics via quantum gravity. This proposal calls for the concept of MONDian dark matter which behaves like cold dark matter at cluster and cosmological scales but emulates modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) at the galactic scale. In the present paper, we first point out a surprising connection between the MONDian dark matter and an effective gravitational Born-Infeld theory. We then argue that these unconventional quanta of MONDian dark matter must obey infinite statistics, and the theory must be fundamentally nonlocal. Finally, we provide a possible top-down approach to our proposal from the matrix theory point of view.

The absorption performance of a nano-structured hydroxyapatite produced from a combined ultrasonic and microwave technique was examined for the removal of fluoride from contaminated water. The effect of physical and chemical parameters such as initial pH, contact time, initial fluoride concentration and temperature were investigated. The results indicated that the equilibrium adsorption data followed both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, with a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 5.5 mg/g at 298. K. In addition, the kinetic studies have shown that the fluoride adsorption data followed a pseudo-second order model and that the intra-particle diffusion process played a significant role in determining the rate. The thermodynamic analysis also established that the adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The initial and final fluoride loaded nano-hydroxyapatite samples were characterized using FESEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR and XPS methods. The analysis revealed that structural changes to the adsorbent had taken place.

Tissue engineering is a multidisciplinary field that can directly benefit from advancements in nanotechnology and nanoscience. This article reviews a representative selection of commercially available procedures and techniques used to treat different degrees of skin burns. It also explores the emerging novel biocompatible inorganic nano-engineered alumina membrane in terms of skin wound healing.

The reverse micelle method was used for the reduction of a tin (Sn) salt solution to produce metallic Sn nanoparticles ranging from 85. nm to 140. nm in diameter. The reverse micellar system used in this process was hexane-butanol-cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The diameters of the Sn nanoparticles were proportional to the concentration of the aqueous Sn salt solution. Thus, the size of the Sn nanoparticles can easily be controlled, enabling a simple, reproducible mechanism for the growth of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) using plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD). Both the Sn nanoparticles and silicon nanowires were characterised using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Further characterisations of the SiNW's were made using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy. In addition, dynamic light scattering (DLS) was used to investigate particle size distributions. This procedure demonstrates an economical route for manufacturing reproducible silicon nanowires using fine-tuned Sn nanoparticles for possible solar cell applications.
