M dwarf stars are high-priority targets for searches for Earth-size and potentially Earth-like planets, but their planetary systems may form and evolve in very different circumstellar environments than those of solar-type stars. To explore the evolution of these systems, we obtained transit spectroscopy and photometry of the Neptune-size planet orbiting the ~650 Myr-old Hyades M dwarf K2-25. An analysis of the variation in spectral line shape induced by the Doppler "shadow" of the planet indicate that the planet's orbit is closely aligned with the stellar equator (lambda = -1.7+5.8/-3.7 deg), and that an eccentric orbit found by previous work could arise from perturbations by another planet on a co-planar orbit. We detect no significant variation in the depth of the He I line at 1083 nm during transit. A model of atmospheric escape as a isothermal Parker wind with a solar composition show that this non-detection is not constraining compared to escape rate predictions of ~0.1 Mearth/Gyr; at such rates, at least several Gyr are required for a Neptune-like planet to evolve into a rocky super-Earth., Comment: to appear in MNRAS Letters

DS Tuc Ab is a Neptune-sized planet that orbits around a member of the 45 Myr old Tucana-Horologium moving group. Here, we report the measurement of the sky-projected angle between the stellar spin axis and the planet's orbital axis, based on the observation of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect during three separate planetary transits. The orbit appears to be well aligned with the equator of the host star, with a projected obliquity of lambda = 2.5 +1.0/-0.9 deg. In addition to the distortions in the stellar absorption lines due to the transiting planet, we observed variations that we attribute to large starspots, with angular sizes of tens of degrees. All cool stars show magnetic activity, and X-ray emission is the hallmark of this activity. Gaining an understanding of activity aids us in answering fundamental questions about stellar astrophysics and in determining the impact of activity on the exoplanets that orbit these stars. Stellar activity is driven by magnetic fields, which are ultimately powered by convection and stellar rotation. However, the resulting dynamo properties heavily depend on the stellar interior structure and are far from being understood. X-ray radiation can evaporate exoplanet atmospheres and damage organic materials on the planetary surface, reducing the probability that life can form or be sustained, but also provides an important source of energy for prebiotic chemical reactions. Over the next two years, the TESS mission will deliver a catalog of the closest exoplanets, along with rotation periods and activity diagnostics for millions of stars, whether or not they have a planet. We propose to include all cool stars that are TESS targets and bright enough for Chandra observations, as determined by their detection and flux in the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS), to the list of Chandra Cool Attitude Targets (CATs). For each target, the signal will be sufficient to fit the coronal plasma with at least two temperature components, and compare abundances of groups of elements with low, medium, or high first ionization potential. Similar to the known relation between X-ray luminosity $L_X$ and rotation period, we can correlate stellar properties with coronal temperatures and abundances to constrain models for stellar activity, coronal heating, and stellar dynamos. We have discovered a young M star of mass $0.16\,M_\odot$ and radius $0.63\,R_\odot$, likely in the Upper Sco Association, that exhibits only a single $80\%$ deep occultation of 1-day duration. The star has frequent flares and a low-amplitude rotational modulation, but is otherwise quiet over 160 days of cumulative observation during K2 Campaigns C2 and C15. We discuss how such a deep eclipse is not possible by one star crossing another in any binary or higher-order stellar system in which no mass transfer has occurred. The two possible explanations we are left with are (1) orbiting dust or small particles (e.g., a disk bound to a smaller orbiting body, or unbound dust that emanates from such a body); or (2) a transient accretion event of dusty material near the corotation radius of the star. In either case, the time between such occultation events must be longer than $\sim$80 days. We model a possible orbiting occulter both as a uniform elliptically shaped surface (e.g., an inclined circular disk) and as a `dust sheet' with a gradient of optical depth behind its leading edge. The required masses in such dust features are then $\gtrsim 3 \times 10^{19}$ g and $\gtrsim 10^{19}$ g, for the two cases, respectively., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, and 5 tables. GJ1132 is a nearby red dwarf known to host a transiting Earth-size planet. After its initial detection, we pursued an intense follow-up with the HARPS velocimeter. We now confirm the detection of GJ1132b with radial velocities only. We refined its orbital parameters and, in particular, its mass ($m_b = 1.66\pm0.23 M_\oplus$), density ($\rho_b = 6.3\pm1.3$ g.cm$^{-3}$) and eccentricity ($e_b < 0.22 $; 95\%). We also detect at least one more planet in the system. GJ1132c is a super-Earth with period $P_c = 8.93\pm0.01$ days and minimum mass $m_c \sin i_c = 2.64\pm0.44~M_\oplus$. Receiving about 1.9 times more flux than Earth in our solar system, its equilibrium temperature is that of a temperate planet ($T_{eq}=230-300$ K for albedos $A=0.75-0.00$) and places GJ1132c near the inner edge of the so-called habitable zone. Despite an a priori favourable orientation for the system, $Spitzer$ observations reject most transit configurations, leaving a posterior probability $<1\%$ that GJ1132c transits. GJ1132(d) is a third signal with period $P_d = 177\pm5$ days attributed to either a planet candidate with minimum mass $m_d \sin i_d = 8.4^{+1.7}_{-2.5}~M_\oplus$ or stellar activity. This document comprises 14 presented papers and related conference materials from a symposium on the Professional Preparation and Development of Educational Administrators in Developing Areas with Emphasis on the Commonwealth Caribbean, conducted in August, 1985. The presentations were divided into three basic areas. Four papers addressed the first area, "Educational Administration in General": "Education and Dependence: Implications for Educational Administration in Latin America and the Caribbean," by Benno Sander; "Assessing Effectiveness in the Field of Professional Preparation Programmes in Educational Administration," by William Mulford; "The Place of Theory in the Training of Educational Administrators," by Tony Riffel; and "The Instructional Process in Educational Administration: The Case Methods Approach," by Gwendoline Williams. In the second area, "Educational Administration in Developing Areas," three papers were presented: "Graduate Programmes in Education Administration in Developing Areas," by Jotham Olembo; "Learning Resources in the Training of Third World Educational Administrators," by Susie Rodwell; and "Women in Educational Administration in Third World Countries," by Usha Nayar. The third area of focus was "Educational Administration in Developing Areas: Commonwealth Caribbean"; seven papers were presented in this area: "Towards a Gender-Inclusive Theory of Educational Administration for the Third World," by Lynn Davies; "Critical Issues in the Professional Preparation and Development of Educational Administrators in Developing Areas," by Earle H. Newton; "The Delivery of Professional Preparation and Development Programmes for School Administrators: The Commonwealth Caribbean," by David G. Marshall; "Nature and Needs in the Field of Educational Administration in the Commonwealth Caribbean," by Errol Miller; "Managing Systems in the Caribbean," by Rudolph Goodridge; "Management Information Systems as a Tool for Educational Administrators in the Commonwealth Caribbean," by Jack Heuvel; and "Sociological Issues in the Preparation of Educational Administrators in Developing Areas with Special Reference to the Caribbean," by Anthony Layne.
