Consideration is given in the paper to the state of the mucosal cell ultrastructure in the gastroduodenal zone in patients with perforating ulcer. Apparent inflammatory-degenerative type ultrastructural alterations have been found to be precent in the gastric and duodenal mucous coat in the zone of perforating ulcer. The above alterations are noted to persist by day 10 in these postsurgical patients having been administered conventional treatments. The use of serotonin adipinate promotes earlier restoration of the ultrastructural picture in the mucous coat of the gastroduodenal zone.

A sociomedical portrait was made up in the tuberculosis patient by analyzing 1067 questionnaires filled by patients with tuberculosis. Males amounted to 79.9%, patients aged 20 to 50 years were 81.3%. Socially unprotected patients accounted for 63.7%. 53.5% were employed as workers. Single and divorced patients were 55.3%. Tuberculosis patients who had been to prisons made up a large proportion. In addition to tuberculosis, 41% had concomitant diseases.

Background and Objective: "Minimal treatment strategy" is desirable in certain breast cancer patients. The main objective of the present study is to examine the use of interstitial laser thermotherapy (laserthermia) for this purpose., Study Design/materials and Methods: Thirty-five patients with primary breast cancer were treated with laserthermia using the Nd:YAG (1,064 nm) pulse-wave laser. In 28 patients, laserthermia was performed before radical resection, and in seven patients it was the only invasive treatment., Results: One gaseous rupture of tumor occurred at 3 Watts. The diameter of single focus of laser-induced damage after 1-2 Watts was less than 1 cm, and after 2.5-6 Watts it reached 1.5-2.5 cm. Of seven patients treated without surgery, local tumor control was achieved in five, and in three stage I-III patients disease-free survival followed for 19-60 months. After laserthermia plus surgery, 3-year disease-free survival was 27% in premenopausal and 92% in menopausal patients., Conclusions: It seems that laser destruction of relatively small primary breast cancer is possible. Provisionally, laserthermia should not be used in premenopausal patients.

According to the data obtained by electron-microscopy investigation of endotheliocytes from the bleeding ulcer zone there was noted the dominance of catabolic processes over synthetic, the creation of folds of endotheliocytes processes, what causes the capillaries lumen narrowing, the basal layer lysis. These factors are the starting mechanism of gastrointestinal bleeding occurrence.

Findings from the electronic microscopy investigation into the surfactant system suggest that the trigger mechanism in the pathogenesis of the inflammatory diseases of the lungs may be disarrangements in the surfactant system on ultrastructural and micromolecular levels, that precede the clinical manifestations. As a result of profound, uncorrectable changes in the organism's surfactant system the inflammatory process tends to run a protracted course.

An analysis of the ultrastructural organization of alveocytes (types I and II), endotheliocytes, interstitium alveolar, macrophages and aerohematic barrier in rabbits with experimental acute pneumonia revealed disorders of synthesis and release of surfactant on the alveolar surface. The observed in pneumonia edema and swelling of the aerohematic barrier components as well as the interstitium reduces the protective mechanism of alveols favouring transition of the disease to a protracted form.

Hepatic ultrastructure has been studied in dogs at the level of cholestasis and at different time after cholecystenteroanastomosis. Owing to theoretico-informative approach applied in the investigation, it was possible to reveal certain essential disorganization in hepatic ultrastructures on the 7th day after the operation. This phenomenon seems to explain the occurrence of acute hepatic insufficiency at early postoperative stages not infrequently observed in clinic. Changes produced by 30-days' cholestasis are demonstrated to be reversible.
