The sublethal toxic effects of pyriproxyfen, an insect juvenile hormone analog (JHA) insecticide, on the circulating metabolite balance in the Neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros, one of the main agronomic pests in South America, were investigated. Our objectives were to evaluate changes in the baseline levels of lipids and carbohydrates, along with three selected micro-elements—nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn)—in the hemolymph of adult E. heros, following the application of a predetermined LC30 of pyriproxyfen (single topical application) in fourth-instar nymphs (N4). Hemolymph was sampled using glass capillaries, with the resulting concentrations of lipids and carbohydrates determined through vanillin- and anthrone-positive reactions, respectively, and micro-element analysis was performed through total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF) spectrometry. Lipids are the main and more stable energy metabolites for E. heros, with a proportion of 2:1 compared to carbohydrate levels. A remarkable sensitivity of carbohydrate levels to sublethal pyriproxyfen exposure, irrespective of sex, was observed. Baseline micro-element levels based on untreated control insects indicate sex-based differences in Ni and Zn, but not in Cu, concentrations. After insecticide exposure, the levels of these micro-elements were variable, with Ni and Zn generally decreasing and Cu decreasing in females but nearly doubling in males. The observed disproportion in lipids, carbohydrates, and inorganic micro-elements suggests potential physiological shifts triggered by pyriproxyfen activity in E. heros during late juvenile stages. We analyzed the influence of exercise order using the bench press and squat as the first or second exercise of the session on velocity performance. Ten male trained individuals (20.9 ± 0.7 years) randomly performed two protocols of three sets of six repetitions at 80% of their one-repetition maximum with different exercise sequences: the bench press followed by the squat (BP + S) and the squat followed by the bench press (S + BP). A linear velocity transducer attached to the Smith machine barbell measured the mean propulsive velocity (MPV), peak velocity (PV), and time to peak velocity. Additionally, blood lactate and heart rate were measured. Regarding the bench press, differences were found in the MPV in the first (BP + S: 0.50 ± 0.07 m·s−1 vs. S + BP: 0.42 ± 0.08 m·s−1; p = 0.03, g = 0.72) and second sets (0.50 ± 0.06 m·s−1 vs. 0.42 ± 0.07 m·s−1; p = 0.03, g = 0.73), and in the PV in the second set (0.74 ± 0.09 m·s−1 vs. 0.63 ± 0.09 m·s−1; p = 0.02, g = 0.86). Regarding the squat, although the S + BP sequence tended to show higher velocities, no significant differences were found between protocols. These results showed that squatting first decreased subsequent bench press velocity performance. On the other hand, squat velocity performance was not impaired when preceded by the bench press. Background: Teleworking (TW) has recently shifted from a marginal into a common practice. Yet, concerns have been raised regarding potential work-health negative effects, related to the reduced socialization, and extended working hours with computers at home, possibly offset by reduced commuting time or better individual work-life balance. This paper aims at describing the influence of TW on health, well-being, and productivity perceptions, and how this is shaped by TW conditions. Methods: We collected data from workers of 25 companies that exert their activity in Portugal. Data were completed with a representative sample of workers who regularly participate in surveys (total N = 1,069). We applied an on-line questionnaire from September the 1st 2022 to December the 1st 2022. We performed a simple descriptive analysis of each variable. Then, we analyzed the relationship between TW conditions and self-reported health, and between TW conditions at home and productivity, using logistic regression models. Results: We observed a high prevalence of self-perceived health worsening (15.9%), mostly among those with poor TW conditions. Most teleworkers enjoyed favorable TW conditions, despite limited company support. Relevant changes were observed in lifestyle factors, towards more smoking (5.5%), alcohol drinking (4.5%), and worse diet (10.1%). Two thirds reported enhanced productivity. A statistically significant relationship was observed between inadequate TW conditions, health deterioration, and lower productivity. A 6.0% point (pp) increased risk of productivity worsening was observed when employees faced at least one inadequate condition at home (no private working place at home, inadequate heating, artificial light, or absence of well-being at home). The risk of health deterioration increased by 12.9 pp when facing at least one of these inadequate conditions, and by 6.3 under hybrid TW, compared to one or two days of TW. Conclusions: Most teleworkers highlighted a positive perspective about teleworking. Yet, TW conditions are not favorable for all workers, with consequences on health, well-being, and productivity, suggesting that further support is needed for teleworkers to protect their health at home, and reach its maximum benefit.
