In this study, 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives were obtained from the reaction of benzophenone-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and N-substitute-thiosemicarbazide compounds with each other. After the synthesis of the final products, some biological properties of these compounds such as antibiofilm, antimicrobial and efflux pump inhibiting efficiencies were evaluated. According to the MBC/MFC test, all the activities were found to be bacteriostatic, also, especially the biofilm inhibition activity of C1 against K. pneumoniae is noteworthy. In addition, C4 was observed to exhibit efflux pump inhibition activity in E. coli, whereas C2 and C3 in K. pneumoniae. The absorption and emission values of the molecules were obtained and electrochemical studies were performed. In addition; absorption, metabolism, distribution, excretion and toxicity (ADMET) scores were predicted using the pharmacokinetic properties of all 1,3,4-thiadiazole compounds. Finally, the electrochemical stabilities of the synthesized molecules have been analyzed by using cyclic voltammetry in 0.1 M TBAPF6 in DMSO as a supporting electrolyte.

In this study, two different azo dyes were synthesized from the reaction of 2-amino benzothiazole derivative amine and heterocyclic coupling compounds. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized such as by 1H-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopic methods. Four different possible tautomer structures are contemplated for each of the compounds. Considering the spectroscopic results analysis, the molecular structure of each tautomer was evaluated. UV-Vis. absorption properties of the obtained azo dyestuff compounds were studied using six different solvents. On the other hand, the electronic data of the spectroscopic and absorption properties of the tautomeric structures of the final products were examined theoretically at the B3LYP/6-311++G(2d,2p) theory level with the DFT approach. The experimental and theoretical results obtained in the study were compared with each other and the results were discussed.

Introduction: COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus is characterized by clinical spectra of varying severity. Coagulopathy and inflammation are the most important factors associated with COVID-19 severity. The use of a biomarker of inflammation and coagulation factors has not yet been clarified. The present study aimed to examine the role of CRP/Albumin, an inflammation marker, in predicting the course of COVID-19 disease.Methods: The Demographic, laboratory, and prognosis of 457 patients who were hospitalized during the COVID-19 pandemic service between April and May 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The relationship between the patients' CRP/Albumin ratio and disease severity, length of hospital stays, and prognosis were analyzed.Results: The rate of hospitalization in the intensive care unit was 10.5% (n=48), mechanical ventilation was 8.1% (n=37), and death was 1.3% (n=6). The CRP/albumin ratio was statistically higher in those with lung infiltration (p=0.005), those who were taken to the intensive care unit (p lt;0.001), and those who needed mechanical ventilation (p lt;0.001). A positive significant correlation was found between the length of hospital stay and the CRP/albumin ratio(r=0.412, p lt; 0.001).Conclusion: The CRP/Albumin ratio is thought to be an auxiliary marker for doctors in the early transfer of patients to the intensive care unit, the early detection of those in need of MV, and the determination of lung infiltration.Keywords: COVID-19, CRP/albumin ratio, prognosis

It was studied some physical and chemical properties of 2,4-dihydroxy quinoline derivative diazo dyes by theoretical methods. Six different solvents were used to determine the solvatochromic behavior and absorption of the compounds, and the experimental results were compared with the theoretical data obtained from quantum chemical calculations. DFT calculations were carried out to obtain the geometric, electronic and some chemical reactivity parameters of the compounds. The atom in molecule, natural bond orbital, density of state, non-covalent interaction, Fukui function, electron localization function, and electron delocalization range analyzes of the compounds were performed to determine the relationship between the electronic properties and the DNA binding capacity and the cytotoxicity against HeLa and PC3 cancer cell lines. It was observed that the compounds substituted with –Cl and –NO2 had higher DNA binding and higher anticancer effect. Besides the positions of the substituents, the electron density in the bonds, the delocalization index values and the distribution of the nucleophilic and electrophilic attack sites are among the important factors determining the reactivity of the compounds. In addition, the HOMO energies of the compounds with better DNA binding properties were calculated higher than the other compounds.

Aim:Valproate is a commonly used antiepileptic drug with hematologic and non-hematologic side effects at therapeutic doses. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the known hematological side effects of valproate and duration, dose and serum levels of this drug.Materials and Methods:The study population consisted of patients with epilepsy followed by pediatric neurology outpatient clinic, who had been using valproate for at least 3 months. Duration of treatment, valproate doses, hemogram and serum valproate levels of patients were recorded from their files. Patients with other systemic and/or hematological diseases and those who were taking drugs other than valproate were not included in the study.Results:Serum valproate levels and complete blood count results were obtained in 80 of 112 patients who met the criteria. Thirty of them (37.5%) were female. The mean age was 8.2±4.8 years (1-16 years) and the mean duration of treatment was 19.93±16.4 months (3 months-10 years). Valproate use dose ranged from 20 to 60 mg/kg day. At least one hematologic side effect was detected in 34 (42%) patients. These side effects were macrocytosis (18.7%), thrombocytopenia (17.5%), leukopenia (12.5%) and anemia (7.5%). There was no correlation between thrombocytopenia and valproate using time, but a significant correlation was found between dose and serum levels. There was a relationship between macrocytosis and serum valproate level only. No correlation was found between leukopenia and anemia and duration of treatment, dose and serum levels.Conclusion:Hematological side effects of valproate used in the treatment of epilepsy are not uncommon, and these side effects are unpredictable. Therefore, it was concluded that complete blood counts should be sufficient in the follow-up of the patients and families should be informed about the side effects.

Background: Health care satisfaction is one of the most important indicators of quality patient care. Objectives: In research, it was aimed to determine the health care satisfaction levels of parents whose children are in hospital because of acute and chronic illnesses and influencing factors. Methods: The study was conducted with 109 parents who accompanied the child in the hospital. The data of the study were collected by using “Description Form” and “PedsQL Health Care Satisfaction Scale”. Data were evaluated by descriptive statistics, Student t, ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests. Results: It was found that 51.4% of the children included in the study were hospitalized due to acute illness and 88.1% of the interviewed parents were mothers. It was found that the satisfaction scores of the parents who stayed in the hospital for more than 20 days decreased as the duration of hospital stay prolonged; the satisfaction scores of the parents who were informed about the diagnosis, treatment and care of their child while staying in the hospital increased; the satisfaction scores of the parents who needed to express their feelings of stres and anger decreased (p < .05). Conclusion: It was determined that parents who accompanied their children in the hospital were informed about the diagnosis, treatment and care of their children, increased their general satisfaction levels and decreased their levels of stres and anger. In this direction; It can be suggested that nurses give counseling and education services to parents.

Objective:The aim of the study was to develop an Insulin Treatment Self-management Scale; both Child Form and Parent Form for children ages 8-18 with type 1 diabetes.Methods:Children with type 1 diabetes and their parents participated in the study. Development of a methodologically designed scale was conducted to investigate insulin treatment self-management of children with type 1 diabetes.Results:A total of 331 children and their parents were recruited. Children and parents completed the data collection tools by themselves. The final scale had two subscales; one was related to cognitive and behavioural expressions regarding insulin treatment (self-efficacy) and the other to emotional aspects of self-maagement of insulin treatment (emotional impacts). The scale was shown to be valid and reliable.Conclusion:This study was a valid and reliable scale for measuring insulin treatment self-management in children with type 1 diabetes. Thus can be used to assess insulin treatment self-management in children with type 1 diabetes and their parents as well as a tool for effective nursing care.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the DSM-5 Separation Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale–Child Form. METHODS: The scale was prepared by carrying out translation and back-translation of the DSM-5 Separation Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale–Child Form. The study group consisted of 41 patients who had been treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with separation anxiety disorder and 100 healthy volunteers who were attending middle or high school during the study period. For the assessment, Screen for Childhood Anxiety and Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was also used, along with the DSM-5 Separation Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale–Child Form. RESULTS: The Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as 0.932, while the item–total score correlation coefficients were between 0.400 and 0.874. One factor that could explain 63% of the variance was obtained. The scale showed a medium correlation with SCARED. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated as 0.898. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that the Turkish version of DSM-5 Separation Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale–Child Form could be used as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes.

Pregnancy associated osteoporosis is a rare complication manifested with back, low back pain after gestation, or in lactation period. The entity has been first described by Nordin and Roper in 1955. The etiology and pathogenesis has not been thoroughly understood. Preexisting osteoporosis which grows harder in gestation, or genetic tendency and idiosyncrasy have been suggested as etiologic factors. In this article the current literature was reviewed on the basis of a patient diagnosed and treated in our department. (Osteoporoz Dünyasından 2006; 12 (2): 39-42)

Gauchers disease is the most frequent hereditary lysosomal deposit storage disorder. It is characterized by a deficiency of the enzyme glucocerebrosidase that leads to an accumulation of glucocerebroside in the macrophage lysosomes. It is classified in three types, according to the presence of central nervous system involvement (type 2 and 3) or not (type 1). In the majority of patients there are hepatosplenomegaly, anemia and thrombocytopenia. Skeletal involvement is also important and it is the most disabling manifestation. In this case report, there is presented a case of Gauchers disease with multiple skeletal involvement and the literature is reviewed.
