Linear probe point-of-care ultrasound (LPUS) presents a less invasive alternative for identifying intrauterine pregnancies (IUPs) compared to usual practice (transabdominal (TAUS) or transvaginal (TVUS) ultrasound). Abstract To compare two different wavelengths of the surgical contact diode laser (CDL) for producing a posterior laryngofissure in in-vivo pigs. Anesthetized pigs underwent a tracheostomy and an anterior laryngofissure through a cervicotomy. They were randomly selected for the CDL wavelength and Power, according to the peak of Power set at device (980nm wavelength: Ppeak power of 10 W, 15 W, and 20 W, or 1470 nm wavelength: Ppeak 3 W, 5 W, 7 W, 10 W). At the end of the experiment, the laryngotracheal specimen was extracted and sent for histology and morphometry measurements (incision size, depth, area, and lateral thermal damage). Hemodynamic data and arterial blood gases were recorded during the incisions. Statistical analysis of the comparisons between the parameters and groups had a level of significance of p < 0.05. Twenty-six pigs were divided into CDL 980 nm (n = 11) and 1470 nm (n = 15). There was a greater incision area at the thyroid level in the 980 nm CDL and a wider incision at the trachea level, with a larger distance between mucosa borders. There were no significant differences in the area of lateral thermal damage between the two groups and neither difference among the power levels tested. Both wavelengths tested showed similar results in the various combinations of power levels without significant differences in the lateral thermal damage. The posterior laryngofissure incision can be performed by either of the wavelengths at low and medium power levels without great difference on lateral thermal damage.

Abstract Background Exoskeletons are increasingly applied during overground gait and balance rehabilitation following neurological impairment, although optimal parameters for specific indications are yet to be established. Objective This systematic review aimed to identify dose and dosage of exoskeleton-based therapy protocols for overground locomotor training in spinal cord injury/disease. Methods A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. A literature search was performed using the CINAHL Complete, Embase, Emcare Nursing, Medline ALL, and Web of Science databases. Studies in adults with subacute and/or chronic spinal cord injury/disease were included if they reported (1) dose (e.g., single session duration and total number of sessions) and dosage (e.g., frequency of sessions/week and total duration of intervention) parameters, and (2) at least one gait and/or balance outcome measure. Results Of 2,108 studies identified, after removing duplicates and filtering for inclusion, 19 were selected and dose, dosage and efficacy were abstracted. Data revealed a great heterogeneity in dose, dosage, and indications, with overall recommendation of 60-min sessions delivered 3 times a week, for 9 weeks in 27 sessions. Specific protocols were also identified for functional restoration (60-min, 3 times a week, for 8 weeks/24 sessions) and cardiorespiratory rehabilitation (60-min, 3 times a week, for 12 weeks/36 sessions). Conclusion This review provides evidence-based best practice recommendations for overground exoskeleton training among individuals with spinal cord injury/disease based on individual therapeutic goals – functional restoration or cardiorespiratory rehabilitation. There is a need for structured exoskeleton clinical translation studies based on standardized methods and common therapeutic outcomes.

Henrik and Torsten Sjögren (/ˈʃoʊɡrən/ or SHOH–grən) were two Swedish physicians living in the same period, but completely unrelated, except for their notable contributions to Medicine. The first one described keratoconjunctivitis sicca, afterward called Sjögren's syndrome, and a fishing net aspect retinal pigmentation affecting visual acuity, nowadays known as Sjögren reticular dystrophy. The last one contributed to the understanding of Spielmeyer-Sjögren disease, Marinesco-Sjögren, and Sjögren-Larsson syndromes, all related to genetic disorders and neurological symptoms. In this paper, we aim to describe each disorder, in order to avoid any misunderstanding in diagnosis and for historical record.

Abstract Lung transplantation stands as a vital treatment for severe lung diseases, primarily sourcing organs from donors with brain death (BD). This research delved into the potential anti-inflammatory effects of thalidomide in rats with BD-induced lung complications. In this study twenty-four Wistar rats were divided into three groups: the control (CTR), brain death (BD) and brain death + thalidomide (TLD) groups. Post specific procedures, a 360 min monitoring period ensued. Comprehensive analyses of blood and heart-lung samples were conducted. Elevated IL-6 levels characterized both BD and TLD groups relative to the CTR (p = 0.0067 and p = 0.0137). Furthermore, TNF-α levels were notably higher in the BD group than both CTR and TLD (p = 0.0152 and p = 0.0495). Additionally, IL-1β concentrations were significantly pronounced in both BD and TLD compared to CTR, with the BD group surpassing TLD (p = 0.0256). Immunohistochemical assessments revealed augmented NF-ĸB expression in the BD group in comparison to both CTR and TLD (p = 0.0006 and p = 0.0005). With this study we can conclude that BD induced acute pulmonary inflammation, whereas thalidomide manifested a notable capability in diminishing key inflammatory markers, indicating its prospective therapeutic significance in lung transplantation scenarios.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a headache characterized by paroxysmal episodes of intense pain in the facial region. TN can occur secondary to structural mechanisms, such as vascular compression of the trigeminal nerve root. Basilar invagination (BI) is a malformation of the craniovertebral junction characterized by invagination of the odontoid process of the axis through the foramen magnum into the posterior fossa, and 1% of cases may present associated TN. This article presents a clinical case of TN secondary to BI and vascular compression of the trigeminal nerve root, which responded only to treatment with botulinum toxin type A. CASE REPORT: A 34-year-old patient with a clinical presentation consistent with TN for approximately 12 years. The symptoms were debilitating and impacted the quality of life, culminating in constant insomnia, severe depression, and suicidal thoughts. Treatment with botulinum toxin type A was fundamental in managing this patient’s pain. CONCLUSION: The case reported here demonstrated the therapeutic success of treatment with botulinum toxin type A in a complex and refractory case of pain syndrome.

IntroductionLeprosy is a chronic infectious condition and the main cause of neuropathy that occurs brought on by M. leprae. It is known that the biological characteristics of the human host, such as the immunological ones, have a higher influence on the pathology of this disease than the intrinsic mechanisms of the bacterium. The objective of this work was to review the scientific knowledge about the relationship between immunopathology and the severity of leprosy.MethodsA systematic review following the PRISMA 2020 recommendations was conducted in the PUBMED, LILACS, SciELO and Science Direct databases using articles in English, Portuguese or Spanish between January 2011 and May 2022 with the descriptors “Leprosy/Immunology”, “Cytokines” and “Mycobacterium leprae”. A methodological quality assessment was carried out using the JBI checklists.ResultsA total of 49 articles were included. There is a relationship of greater severity of infection associated with lower release of MHC molecules in response to PGL-1 that inhibit the promotion of resolving T lymphocytes arising from dendritic cells (DCs) stimulation. In addition, the differentiation of macrophage phenotypes dependent on the activation of PRRs can define activation and the distinct type of T helper (Th) cells involved according to severity. Activated CD8+ T cells also have distinct types at the appropriate poles of the disease, and B cells show at the most severe pole of the LL, specific induction of IgA and more Treg-type CD8+ T cells that further contribute to T cell anergy.ConclusionTherefore, the adaptive immune system aggravates nerve damage and defines the type of leprosy, while the innate immune system is considerably more significant in the onset of nerve damage, symptomatic of the initial presentation of illness and in several critical immune responses, including inflammation and elimination of dead M. leprae.

Abstract Objectives Electronic nicotine delivery systems (e‐cigarette, pod, and vape) are currently among the tobacco consumption of adolescents and young adults. The aim is to show oral mucosa and saliva alterations related to vape. Material and Methods A vape‐user patient, presenting a white plaque in the posterior region of the hard palate, underwent clinical examination, sialometry, pH evaluation, and excisional biopsy of the white lesion. Molecular changes in saliva and vape liquid were analyzed by vibrational spectroscopy. Results The histopathological analyses showed hyperparakeratosis without dysplasia. Formaldehyde, ketones, and aromatic hydrocarbon species were identified in e‐cig liquid by the FTIR. Conclusions The use of vape may be related to the development of hyperkeratotic lesions in the oral mucosa as well as significantly modify the patient's salivary patterns as the vape liquid presents carcinogenic and cytotoxic components in its composition.

ObjectivesThis study was performed to identify predictive markers of worse outcomes in patients with severe COVID-19 in an intensive care unit.MethodsSixty patients with severe COVID-19, hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) between March and July 2021, were stratified into two groups according to the outcome survivors and non-survivors. After admission to the ICU, blood samples were collected directly for biomarker analysis. Routine hematological and biochemical biomarkers, as well as serum levels of cytokines, chemokines, and immunoglobulins, were investigated.ResultsLymphopenia, neutrophilia, and thrombocytopenia were more pronounced in non-surviving patients, while the levels of CRP, AST, creatinine, ferritin, AST, troponin I, urea, magnesium, and potassium were higher in the non-surviving group than the survival group. In addition, serum levels of IL-10, CCL2, CXCL9, and CXCL10 were significantly increased in patients who did not survive. These changes in the biomarkers evaluated were associated with increased mortality in patients with severe COVID-19.ConclusionThe present study confirmed and expanded the validity of laboratory biomarkers as indicators of mortality in severe COVID-19.

ABSTRACT In Veterinary Medicine, diseases restricted to the gallbladder (GB) are uncommon in dogs. The histopathological examination of GB is considered the gold standard. However, abdominal ultrasound examination is increasingly included in the veterinary clinical routine, as it allows changes in previously underdiagnosed GB to have a more accurate diagnosis. The aim of this study was to identify, quantify and correlate the different aspects of GB in dogs through ultrasound and histopathological examinations. The GB of 60 dog cadavers were evaluated, without predilection for sex, age, and breed. The results demonstrated that the ultrasound examination, when compared to the histopathological examination, presented 83% agreement in the analysis of general data for the presence or absence of GB changes. The level of agreement in the Kappa test was considerably high (K=0.63). There was a high agreement in the diagnosis of changes observed by ultrasound and histopathological examinations, when compared “affected” or “non affected”. However, when compared the findings of mucocele, cystic mucinous hyperplasia and cholecystitis, there is a low Kappa agreement. Thus, ultrasound examination is an excellent tool for identifying changes related to the GB. However, more studies must be carried out to deepen the understanding of the correlation between imaging and pathological findings to lead diagnostic conclusions.

ABSTRACT Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) is a congenital genetic defect primarily found in Collie dogs but occasionally in other breeds. Its significance lies in its genetic implications for breeding in predisposed breeds. Diagnosing CEA can be challenging and relies on clinical history, epidemiological data, clinical and ophthalmological examinations, and ocular ultrasonography to assess the extent of damage and prognosis. This article presents a case of CEA in a 6-month-old Border Collie dog who exhibited reduced vision and acute hyphema. Abstract Aim Considering the importance of knowing the organisms that make up the environments impacted by human activities, we aimed to create an inventory of the ichthyofauna of a bauxite mining area in the Eastern Amazon in this work. Methods Specimens were collected with sieves, trawls, and gill nets at 37 points in rivers and streams during two expeditions (July 2017 and September and October 2017). After euthanasia and laboratory processes, we identified each individual to the lowest possible taxonomic level, and samples were deposited in scientific collections. We analyzed the conservation status of the species on state, national, and international lists. Results A total of 109 species were identified, belonging to 28 families and six orders, emphasizing the Characiformes order (57 species) and the Characidae family (22 species). We identified two new species, and none are threatened with extinction. Conclusions The high species richness recorded in the Potiritá River basin is noteworthy, considering its relatively small area. This diversity should be considered in future environmental impact studies and in monitoring the ichthyofauna in areas affected by human activities.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate the contribution of informal caregivers to the self-care of individuals with heart failure. Methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted with 87 caregivers from March to October 2022 in the city of João Pessoa/PB. The caregivers’ contribution was assessed using the Caregiver Contribution to Self-Care of Heart Failure Index instrument. Scores ≥ 70 points indicate adequate contribution. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s correlation. Results: the sample consisted of 81.6% female caregivers. Median scores obtained for the self-care contribution scales were: 63.3 for maintenance; 55.5 for management; and 66.6 for confidence. Caregivers never or rarely recommended monitoring body weight, regular physical exercise, extra use of diuretics, and fluid restriction. Conclusions: informal caregivers showed inadequate contribution in the areas of maintenance, management, and confidence in self-care of individuals with heart failure.

Abstract Lettuce is one of the most consumed vegetables in the world, with significant global economic relevance. Furthermore, the demand for organic products today is considerably higher than in the past, causing changes in the production methods, such as the sources of fertilizer. Several nutrients are limiting for the development of lettuce when deficient in the soil, among them phosphorus stands out. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of two organic sources of phosphorus at different doses on the production of red-leaf lettuce in an organic farming system. The plants used were from the cultivar Scarlet (Sakata®), transplanted and placed in 12 L plastic pots in a greenhouse, with 10 treatments being carried out in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme. Yoorin Thermophosphate and Bone Meal were tested at doses of 0, 200, 400, 600 and 800 kg ha-1 of P2O5. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with four replications. Bone Meal resulted in plants with higher dry matter weight and plant circumference but lower values for plant height and leaf width. Doses above the recommended (400 kg ha-1 of P2O5 according to the literature for soils with low phosphorus content: 6 mg dm-3), regardless of the source, resulted in an increase in the values of the characteristics evaluated, but, with a decrease in the increases as high was the dose, except for the number of leaves where the increase was linear. Yoorin Thermophosphate resulted in plants with higher phosphorus content.

Control-inspired design, as the name suggests, involves drawing inspiration from control theory to design other engineering systems. Engineers may use the principles of feedback control to design systems that can adapt and self-correct in response to changing conditions. This technique is known as Control Co-design (CCD), and it focuses on the redesign of dynamics and subsystem interactions. CCD offers several benefits, such as improved performance, reduced design time and cost, and increased reliability, and has been applied to a variety of areas. In this paper, we present a review of 197 articles related to CCD and highlight the main topics of its applications, such as renewable energy, vehicular and aircraft control systems and communication systems in control. We delimit the applications of CCD in the field of engineering, providing an introductory understanding of this topic and presenting the main works developed in this field in recent years, as well as discussing the tendencies and benefits of CCD. The paper offers an in-depth conceptualisation of CCD. A theoretical example is provided to illustrate CCD’s application in a Hybrid Wind-Wave Platform (HWWP), detailing the interaction between aerodynamic and hydrodynamic design domains and their control challenges, along with discussions on simultaneous and nested CCD formulations.

Objetivo: Identificar e analisar a percepção da geração dos Millennials sobre previdência. Metodologia: Técnica de levantamento do tipo Survey, com a aplicação de questionário estruturado por meio da ferramenta Lime Survey®, enviado para aproximadamente 15 mil pessoas de todas as regiões do Brasil, com 21 perguntas estruturadas. A seleção dos respondentes foi em bases abertas, com foco na faixa etária em que se encontra essa geração. Para cada uma das questões componentes do questionário estruturado, foi efetuado o teste não paramétrico de Qui-Quadrado para verificar diferenças de avaliação para as variáveis de controle. Resultados: Contrariando as bases de estudo analisadas, a maioria dos Millennials brasileiros respondentes da pesquisa pensa ou se preocupa com a formação de suas aposentadorias. Entre as hipóteses confirmadas, os achados da pesquisa mostram que os Millennials possuem receio em enfrentar dificuldades em relação às suas aposentadorias e consideram que alcançar uma aposentadoria segura será uma tarefa bastante complicada no futuro. Apesar da baixa participação dessa geração em planos de previdência complementar, a maior parte afirma possuir enorme interesse nesse sentido, contribuindo para a literatura sobre o tema. Contribuições do estudo: Além de ajudar a compreender como os Millennials lidam com o tema da previdência, este estudo pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento de políticas públicas voltadas para educação previdenciária dos jovens.

Este artigo analisa criticamente o discurso neoliberal que se manifesta na proposta da escola extracurricular MBA Kids Brasil, a partir dos enunciados presentes em seu site institucional, e de que forma estes contribuem para formação do sujeito neoliberal. Busca-se compreender, inspirado na Análise Crítica do Discurso, o texto, a prática discursiva e a prática social, que se constituem nos discursos e no contexto social em que se inserem. Os resultados apontam para a transformação da educação, formal ou não-formal, em um produto que atua na formação dos sujeitos empreendedores, baseado em uma pedagogia das competências.

Summary: Background: Chagas disease (CD), endemic in 21 Latin American countries, has gradually spread beyond its traditional borders due to migratory movements and emerging as a global health concern. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of available data to establish updated prevalence estimates of CD in Latin American migrants residing in non-endemic countries. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, and LILACS via Virtual Health Library (Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde - BVS), including references published until November 1st, 2023. Pooled prevalence estimates and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using random effect models. Heterogeneity was assessed by the chi-square test and the I2 statistic. Subgroup analyses were performed to explore potential sources of heterogeneity among studies. The study was registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42022354237). Findings: From a total of 1474 articles screened, 51 studies were included. Studies were conducted in eight non-endemic countries (most in Spain), between 2006 and 2023, and involving 82,369 screened individuals. The estimated pooled prevalence of CD in Latin American migrants living in non-endemic countries was 3.5% (95% CI: 2.5–4.7; I2: 97.7%), considering studies in which screening was indicated simply because the person was Latin American. Per subgroups, the pooled CD prevalence was 11.0% (95% CI: 7.7–15.5) in non-targeted screening (unselected population in reference centers) (27 studies); in blood donors (4 studies), the pooled prevalence was 0.8% (95% CI: 0.2–3.4); among people living with HIV Latin American immigrants (4 studies) 2.4% (95% CI: 1.4–4.3) and for Latin American pregnant and postpartum women (14 studies) 3.7% (95 CI: 2.4–5.6). The pooled proportion of congenital transmission was 4.4% (95% CI: 3.3–5.8). Regarding the participants’ country of origin, 7964 were from Bolivia, of which 1715 (21,5%) were diagnosed with CD, and 21,304 were from other Latin American countries of which 154 (0,72%) were affected. Interpretation: CD poses a significant burden of disease in Latin American immigrants in non-endemic countries, suggesting that CD is no longer a problem limited to the American continent and must be considered as a global health challenge. O presente trabalho objetivou realizar o levantamento taxonômico dos representantes de Rubiaceae para a Fazenda Experimental da Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú (FAEX-UVA), em Massapê, Ceará. A partir de observações de campo e análise de materiais de herbário, 10 espécies foram registradas: Borreria brownii (Rusby) Standl, B. scabiosoides Cham. & Schltdl, B. spinosa Cham. & Schltdl, Hexasepalum apiculatum (Willd.) Delprete & J.H.Kirkbr., Machaonia acuminata Bonpl., Oldenlandia corymbosa L., Pentodon pentandrus (Schumach. & Thonn.) Vatke, Oesterr., Randia armata (Sw.) DC., Richardia scabra L. e Tocoyena formosa (Cham. & Schtdl.) K. Schum. São apresentadas aqui uma chave de identificação, descrições, fotografias e dados de distribuição geográfica e hábitat.

As pescadoras artesanais do litoral de Pernambuco enfrentam os impactos das indústrias, do derramamento de petróleo e da pandemia de covid-19, conformando uma sindemia que agrava as vulnerabilidades socioeconômicas, ambientais e sanitárias. Objetivou-se demonstrar que estratégias de comunicação e divulgação científica, como a cartilha “Saúde das mulheres das águas” e o documentário O mar que habita em mim, são importantes por promoverem a democratização do conhecimento. Trata-se de pesquisa-ação do tipo etnográfica para identificar aspectos do trabalho e da vida. Participaram 34 pescadoras, mediante grupos focais, oficina de fluxograma laboral, vivência do trabalho da pesca, análise e produção de estratégias. Esses materiais demonstram a relação saúde doença no trabalho da pesca enfatizando narrativas sobre determinação social da saúde. As estratégias comunicativas provocaram interesse da sociedade, promoveram debate e contribuíram para a consciência de profissionais/gestores de saúde sobre os povos das águas e as situações nos territórios.

Abstract This study aimed to recognize the biogeographic patterns, richness, and diversity levels of the Brazilian endemic genus Orthophytum and identify their biotic components through a parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE), to better understand the evolutionary history of this group and develop strategies for the conservation of its species. We prepared a database for the 54 currently known species of Orthophytum, including their geographical locations as obtained from digital databases of the principal herbaria of Brazil, Europe, and the USA. A parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE) was used to delimit the areas of endemism based on two grids’ sizes (1º x 1º and 2º × 2º). The majority rule consensus tree resulting from the PAE indicated three areas of endemism with high bootstrap, diversity, and richness indices: the northern portion of the Espinhaço Range, the southern portion of the Espinhaço Range, and the central portion of the Atlantic Forest. The recognition of those distribution patterns reveals a high number of microendemic species, which is discussed here.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the dietary addition of calcium anacardate as a source of phenolic compounds on the reproductive performance and blood antioxidant parameters of New Zealand White female rabbits. Twenty-seven New Zealand White female rabbits were distributed in a randomized complete block design with three treatments and nine replicates, considering one animal as the experimental unit. The treatments consisted of pelleted diets with different inclusion levels of calcium anacardate (0, 0.5, and 1.0%). The inclusion of calcium anacardate in the diets increased the concentration of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant capacity in the blood of lactating female rabbits. Calcium anacardate at the level of 1.0% improves the feed conversion ratio during gestation and increases the phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity in the blood serum of female rabbits at 21 days of lactation.

Introdução/Justificativa: Existem mais de 200 tipos de HPV no mundo, sendo 14 deles cancerígenos. Destes, os tipos 16 e 18 são responsáveis por 70% dos cânceres de colo de útero e lesões pré-cancerosas. Também podem provocar câncer em vagina, ânus, vulva, pênis e orofaringe. Em 2020, foram diagnosticados 602 mil novos casos de câncer cervical em todo o mundo, com 342 mil mortes. No Brasil, a mortalidade pela doença ente 1980 e 2020 foi de 165.087.2 O exame de PET-CT com Fluorodesoxiglicose marcada com F-18 (PET-CT 18F-FDG) pode ser fundamental para elucidação diagnóstica, estadiamento e acompanhamento de pacientes nos diferentes estágios da doença, trazendo maior acurácia e a possibilidade de detecção e localização de metástases. Objetivos: No Brasil, os dados oficiais revelam que cerca de 35% dos casos de câncer de colo uterino ainda são diagnosticados nas fases III e IV, ou seja, em doença avançada, sendo que a partir da fase III existe disseminação linfonodal pélvica ou para-aórtica. Diante disso, o objetivo deste estudo foi a avaliação do panorama dos exames de PET-CT 18F-FDG realizados em uma instituição privada com a indicação de câncer de colo uterino e verificar se os dados coletados são condizentes com os dados encontrados na realidade brasileira. Materiais e Métodos: Este estudo foi realizado utilizando-se o banco de dados de uma instituição privada. Buscados exames de PET-CT 18F-FDG com a indicação de neoplasia de colo uterino no período de 01.01.2019 a 31.08.2023. Identificados 183 estudos, sendo 36 excluídos por duplicidade e/ou indicação incorreta, permanecendo, no final, 147 exames para análise. Resultados: Quando avaliados por indicação, a grande maioria dos exames incluídos neste estudo foram realizados para avaliação de resposta (56,5%), seguidos de estadiamento (18,4%), suspeita de recidiva (15,6%) e seguimento (9,5%). Avaliando apenas os exames de estadiamento, a grande maioria apresentava doença avançada e apenas 3,6% tiveram exame negativo. 10,7% das pacientes possuíam doença nos estágios iniciais (menor que IIIB), 10,7 no estágio IIIB, 17,9% no estágio IIIC1, 25% no IIIC2, sendo que 3,6% já apresentavam envolvimento de órgãos pélvicos (estágio IVA) e 28,6%, de órgãos a distância (estágio IVB). Quanto à suspeita de recidiva, este trabalho considerou 23 pacientes da amostra. Deste total, 78,3% dos exames foram positivos, 8,7% indeterminados e 13,0% negativos. Conclusão: Os dados encontrados no nosso serviço são semelhantes aos encontrados no Brasil. As regras vigentes no nosso país não propiciam o diagnóstico precoce do câncer de colo uterino, na contramão dos protocolos atualizados nos Estados Unidos e na Europa. Não há autorização prevista para estadiamento, nem acompanhamento pelo SUS ou pelo rol da ANS. Este cenário configura sério obstáculo à detecção da doença em um estágio mais inicial, o que possivelmente pouparia custos de tratamento na doença avançada, e aumentaria a sobrevida das pacientes, consolidando imediato benefício à saúde pública.
