The purpose of the working is to investigate the invasive (Pterois Miles) lionfish, with the aim of proving it as a healthy food, with remarkable nutritional value, beneficial for the human body. The encourage its consumption so that, knowing it, people can include it in their daily diet. The analyze the policy in Cyprus in the effort to control and manage the species in mainten the balance in biodiversity and the marine ecosystem. Highlight the dangers of environmental imbalance from the invasion of other species in the Mediterranean Seas Most people do not know the lionfish and it is difficult to integrate a new kind of food into the diet. By informing its benefits and proposing to the world to try it, in addition to having the benefit of this type of food, it will also be noteworthy the contribution of its consumption to environmental protection. With the integration of the lionfish, to the Cypriot diet is given a financial incentive for the fishermen to catch it and its population is still maintained at low levels so that the balance in the maritime ecosystem can occur

The Pantélis River in Eastern Crete is a very interesting case of study on many levels. Many studies have been published even since 1830. It is a temporary river in an island area, a fact which affects the biodiversity and increases the need of the management of critical ecological issues such as improving the quality characteristics of water and improve it in a framework of sustainable development. The water management in an area, a particularly dry area is necessity because the climate change affecting flood flow in recent years, water quality and water reserves in the region. The present study aims to impress the changes in the quality parameters of the surface waters of the Pantélis -Sitia river. It is also sought to make a comparison against the months in changes in chemical markers, making an effort to clarify the reasons for these changes. The rivers of Crete are strongly affected by the intensive rural activities, develop a severe chemistry load on nitrogen content, develop strong eutrophication, and also identify pollution. Despite the rural cultivation along the river’s way, there are no monitoring studies of these chemical indicators to date. To investigate the human impact by the management of agricultural waste and fertilizers used during the crop period.

The concept of sustainable development is not only a scientific term but an essential way of changing the way of life for modern man. The cultivation of the values recommended by the UN through the 17 goals must become a pedagogical tool at all levels of education in order to achieve the most basic component of environmental education and sustainable development in the context of ESG, which is the process of recognizing values and clarifying concepts to develop the skills and attitudes necessary for understanding and appreciating the interrelationship of man, culture and the Biophysical environment. The project focus: a) on principles of software programming and pedagogical issues and b) on eco-social contextualization & dynamiting activities that can be applied with the students in order to create a pedagogical model through the use of Scratch code so that students can master knowledge through STEM methods.

Eastern Crete faces the greatest deficit of water resources in Crete due to the arid climate and reduced rainfall. Despite the magnitude of the problem, to date no reservoir has been constructed that will change the environmental image of the area while simultaneously changing the opportunities through sustainable development. Instead, water resources are derived from deep wells (55m -475m) with huge energy costs at a time when energy is expensive. The study examines and presents: a) the economic cost of water resources in the area due to the drilling, b) the study for the Lithines reservoir, with a total volume of 9.5 million cubic meters of water and the expected economic profit that will accrue through hydroelectric production of water intended for irrigation, c) The quality of water that is currently lost to the sea, d) the sustainable development deficit faced by the region in relation to the neighbouring regions of the municipalities of Ierapetra and Agios Nikolaos and e) The forecast of economic development in the region in agriculture and tourism sector through the increase of water resources.

Gas storage: A new, sulfone-functionalized dicarboxylate-based ligand (see figure) is capable of directing the formation of novel metal-organic frameworks with unprecedented organic and inorganic secondary building units. A high CO(2) uptake with remarkable selectivity over CH(4), N(2), and H(2) was observed at near-ambient temperature.

The first examples of coordination polymers based on the tetrathioterephthalate dianion as the bridging ligand are reported. Two novel compounds, [M(S(2)CC(6)H(4)CS(2))(DMF)(2)](DMF) (M = Zn, Mn; DMF = dimethylformamide), have been synthesized, and their structural and optical properties were investigated.

A protein was isolated from membranes of the green sulfur bacterium Chlorobium tepidum. This protein was characterized by gel electrophoresis, gel filtration, analytical ultracentrifugation and amino acid sequencing. The molecular weight of the purified protein was shown to be 26 kDa by SDS-PAGE. HPLC gelfiltration, SDS-PAGE and analytical ultracentrifugation are consistent with the presence of a homogenous protein in the preparations. Amino acid analysis was obtained from the isolated protein after fragmentation with Lys-C, trypsin and cyanogen bromide. The cleavage pattern resulting from these treatments combined with Edman sequencing yield a sequence allowing the identification of an integral membrane agglutinin in Chl. tepidum.

The molecular size of an outer surface protein from the photosynthetic bacterium Chlorobium tepidum was studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and HPLC gel filtration. For that purpose, the membrane protein was isolated and studied in four different nonionic surfactants, namely t-octylphenoxypolyethenoxyethanol (Triton X-100), (methyl-6-O-(N)-heptyl-carbamoyl)-alpha-D-glucopyranoside (Hecameg), dodecyl-beta-D-maltoside (DDM) and n-octyl-oligo-oxyethylene (Octyl-POE). The protein was isolated by solubilization of the membranes with Triton X-100. The final purification step was a gel filtration, which was also used for surfactant exchange. Light scattering reveals the simultaneous presence of particles of different sizes in the 3-6 and 20-110 nm range, respectively. The smaller size is related to the hydrodynamic radius of the individual protein/surfactant complexes, whereas the larger size is associated with the presence of complex aggregates.
