Polymers are popular materials as an additive to improve the performance of hot mix asphalt (HMA). To this aim, acrylic latex was chosen to improve the performance of asphalt mixture. In this study, it was investigated that the performance of hot mix asphalt with acrylic latex additive in three percentages (1%, 2% and 3%). Design bitumen contents were determined for all acrylic latex additive. Indirect Tensile Strength and moisture susceptibility of acrylic latex added HMA was conducted using test procedure of AASHTO T283. According to the results, design bitumen contents were increased by acrylic latex. Although the bitumen content was increased, both the indirect tensile (IDT) strength and the moisture resistance were improved by acrylic latex. Best performance was obtained by 3% acrylic latex additive. It is suggested that the percentage of acrylic latex would be increased for further researches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Asphalt pavements are damaged by moisture. Strength loss is caused by moisture damage. Anti-stripping agent is used to address this damage in asphalt mixtures. Bitumen modification is also effective method to prevent moisture damage. To this aim, in this study, bitumen was modified by silicon carbide nanotube (SiCNT) in three percentages (1%, 3% and 5%) by weight. After the modification effort was performed, asphalt mixtures were designed according to SuperpaveTM procedure. Indirect Tensile (IDT) Strength test was employed determining moisture damage in asphalt mixtures modified by SiCNT. As a result, moisture susceptibility of two percentages (3% and 5%) of SiCNT ensured the specification limit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the effect of rosin on modification of bitumen and hot mix asphalt performance. Generally, natural resin is obtained from the body of tree naturally and fractionated and rosin which is distilled and volatile terpenes have been removed from natural resin. It is light yellow and transparent material. Bitumen is modified with rosin in 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% by weight of bitumen in mixture. Characteristics of bitumen after modification is determined with bitumen tests (rotational viscometer, penetration, softening point, ductility, elastic recovery, and penetration index). In this study, bitumen was graded according to Performance Grading (PG) system and PG 64-22 bitumen was used. Also, stiffness modulus was calculated by empirical model. Optimum bitumen contents of modified bitumen for all percentages were determined. After optimum bitumen percentage is determined hot mix asphalt samples were prepared with these percentages according to SuperpaveTM mix design. After all, tensile strength and moisture susceptibility is determined with Indirect Tensile Strength test. The results showed that 2% rosin modified bitumen showed good results among the other modifications. It has highest moisture resistance. And the indirect tensile strength results of rosin modified Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) were higher than the reference sample. Also, 6% rosin modified bitumen showed best stiffness modulus and elastic modulus according to the empirical model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In areas where urbanization is intense, rainwater is mostly collected on impermeable surfaces and leakage into groundwater is prevented. Permeable coating applications, which can be qualified as environmentally friendly especially for residential areas, greatly reduce the runoff, keep the rainwater clean and allow groundwater to be fed through infiltration. Permeable Coatings reduce environmental noise pollution due to their porous structure. Considering these benefits, it is clear that these coatings will help make cities more suitable for human nature. On the other hand, there is a need to improve the performance of these coatings, which have a short service life due to their porous structure. In this study, in order to contribute to the more widespread use of permeable asphalt, it was considered to improve the performance of the coating mixtures by using basalt fiber polypropylene, glass fiber and crumb rubber without compromising the hydraulic permeability level. The slag material released during the ferrochrome production process was used as aggregate in the permeable asphalt mixture design. With the recycling of ferrochrome slag in an area suitable for its properties, optimum benefit is aimed in economic and environmental terms. In the study, besides the ferrochrome slag obtained from Elazığ Ferrochrome Plant and polymer bituminous binder (PMB 76-22), F-type fly ash as filler addition and cellulosic fiber for bitumen stabilization were used. In the study, a mixture design was carried out for ferrochrome slag aggregate. The effects of the addition of polypropylene, basalt fiber, glass fiber and crumb rubber at the rates of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1,0% of mixture weight on the blend performance at 6.0% and 6.5% bitumen rates where the best design results are achieved has been determined. Design tests such as volume analysis, permeability, Cantabro abrasion loss, indirect tensile strength and resistance to moisture damage were carried out on the prepared samples.

Ayrıca, %6 reçine kolofan modifiye edilmiş bitüm ampirik modele göre en iyirijitlik modülü ve elastik modülü ile sonuçlanmıştır., Thisstudy investigated the effect of rosin on modification of bitumen and hot mixasphalt performance.
