Compression garments has emerged as an important tool in sport activity [1, 2]. In the particular case of compression socks (CS), several studies show that their use improves the fatigue recovery and prevents muscle injuries [3-6]. The aim of this research work is to perform the characterization of sports socks regarding their comfort and compression. Several parameters were monitored in volunteers during a running test. This test was performed in a non-inclined treadmill for 12 minutes at 12km/h. PicoPress equipment was used to recording the compression force; Thermodata sensors were used to monitor the temperature and humidity; Wrist pulse oximeter was used to measure the oxygen saturation and heart rate; and thermal imaging with a TESTO IR camera was used for thermal component evaluation. Wearing compression socks seem to return better conditions for comfort, muscle stability and muscle fatigue because the main conclusions of the test show that the volunteers feel better at muscle stability (MS) and no fatigue after 24 hours of running.

Exosomes are a distinct type of extracellular vesicles that play a major role in intracellular transport and communication. Depending on the cell of origin, exosomes can contain diverse constituents of a cell, including DNA, RNA, lipids, metabolites, cytosolic and cell-surface proteins, playing important roles in a wide range of physiological and pathological processes. Due to these facts, they are subject of extensive research aiming at translating the knowledge into clinical approaches that are at the interface between nanomedicine and biopharmaceuticals. Their potential clinical use mostly revolves around the fields of diagnostics and drug delivery, especially important in treatment of cancer. The conventional and emerging methods of exosome isolation are either based on their physical properties (such as density and/or size) or their functions. However, the isolation approaches are still characterised by significant downsides, lacking standardisation, and ensuring purity. The review gives a critical overview on exosomes characteristics, isolation approaches and the potential that exosomes hold in developing new clinical approaches of modern medicine, highlighting the need for further research to fully grasp their potential and translate the knowledge into future therapeutic solutions.

Leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin has been developed to stimulate wound healing response. However, it is currently unknown whether smoking affects the biological responses elicited by leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin on periodontal ligament-derived mesenchymal stromal cells. This study analyzes the kinetics of biomolecule release from leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin derived from smokers and nonsmokers and their effect on periodontal ligament cell proliferation and migration as essential biological activities during wound healing.Biomolecules present in leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin exudates and conditioned media collected from smokers and nonsmokers were analyzed by Luminex arrays. Periodontal ligament-derived mesenchymal stromal cell obtained from one nonsmoker were treated with leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin exudates or leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin conditioned media derived from both smokers and nonsmokers. The parameters evaluated included cell proliferation, determined by Ki67 immunostaining and migration assessed using transwell assays. Also, cells were treated with nicotine in the presence of fetal bovine serum 10% or leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin conditioned media.A similar biomolecular profile was detected in leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin exudates and leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin conditioned media from smokers and nonsmokers, stimulating (periodontal ligament-derived mesenchymal stromal cell) proliferation, and migration to a comparable degree. Nicotine reduced cell proliferation and migration of periodontal cells; however, this effect was recovered in the presence of leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin conditioned media.Leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin derived from smokers could be an autologous source of biomolecules to stimulate cell biological activities involved in wound healing in smokers who have difficulties in ceasing this habit. Clinical trials are required to evaluate the impact of leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin on healing responses in smokers.

Recently, new centrifugation protocols for the preparation of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) have been introduced in an attempt to further improve the beneficial impact of these 2nd generation platelet concentrate membranes. This in-vitro study aimed to compare the biological and physical characteristics of three types of PRF membranes using two different centrifuges with adapted relative centrifugal forces (RCF): leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin, advanced platelet-rich fibrin, and advanced platelet-rich fibrin+. Release of growth factors, macroscopic dimensions, cellular content and mechanical properties of the respective membranes, prepared from blood of the same individual were explored. Furthermore, the impact of timing (blood draw-centrifugation and centrifugation-membrane preparation) was assessed morphologically as well as by electron microscopy scanning. No statistically significant differences amongst the three PRF modifications could be observed, neither in their release of growth factors or the cellular content, nor in clot/membrane dimensions. The difference between both centrifuges were negligible when the same g-force was used. A lower g-force, however, reduced membrane tensile strength. Timing in the preparation process had a significant impact. Adaptation of RCF only had a minimal impact on the final characteristics of PRF membranes.

Ecological traps occur when species choose to settle in lower quality habitats, even if this reduces their survival or productivity. This normally occurs in situations of drastic environmental changes, resulting, for example, from anthropogenic pressures. In the medium and long term, this could mean the extinction of the species. We investigated the dynamics of occurrence and distribution of three canid species (Atelocynus microtis, Cerdocyon thous, and Spheotos venaticus) related to human threats imposed on their habitats in the Amazon Rainforest. We analyzed the possible environmental thresholds for the occurrence of these species and confronted them with the future projections of climatic niches for each one. All three species will be negatively affected by climate change in the future, with losses of up to 91% of the suitable area of occurrence in the Brazilian Amazon. The occurrence of C. thous and S. venaticus has been positively influenced by anthropogenic open areas to the detriment of native environments, suggesting that these species are being attracted by ecological traps, which may put them at risk in the future in the Amazon Region. The A. microtis species is the most dependent on forest habitats, and thus the most significant threat would be forest loss. Using the canid species as a model, we could deeply investigate these ecological effects that can affect a large part of the Amazonian fauna in the current scenario. Considering the high degree of environmental degradation and deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest, the theory of ecological traps must be discussed at the same level that habitat loss is considered a decisive criterion of threat to biodiversity.

In the context of de Broglie-Bohm pilot-wave theory, violations of the Born rule are allowed and can be considered as describing nonequilibrium distributions. We study the effects of interactions on quantum relaxation towards equilibrium for a system of one-dimensional coupled harmonic oscillators. We show by numerical simulations that interactions can delay or even prevent complete relaxation for some initial states. We also discuss how this effect might be relevant for cosmological scenarios and how nonequilibrium could be detected in some models., 15 pages, 7 figures

The problem of finding a vacuum definition for a single quantum field in curved space-times is discussed under a new geometrical perspective. The phase space dynamics of the quantum field modes are mapped to curves in a 2-dimensional hyperbolic metric space, in which distances between neighbor points are shown to be proportional to the Bogoliubov coefficients associated with their corresponding mode solutions in phase space. The vacuum state for each mode is then defined as the unique trajectory from which all mapped phase space solutions move within thin annular regions around it. This property implies the stability of the vacuum state: solutions evolved from a point in this trajectory stay close to it as both evolve, and the particle creation is therefore minimized. The new approach is applied to the well-known cases of the time-independent dynamics, where the solutions draw circles around this curve, and when the adiabatic approximation is valid. The analysis is then extended to time-dependent cases in which the adiabatic approximation is not applicable, in the super-Hubble or low-frequency regimes. It is shown that stability trajectories can also be found in these situations, and stable quantum vacua can be obtained. This new formalism is applied to two situations: de Sitter space, where the Bunch-Davies vacuum is obtained in a completely different manner through an analysis in the super-Hubble regime, and in the context of cosmological bouncing models, in which the contracting phase is dominated by a cosmological constant in the asymptotic past. In many countries, renewable energy production already represents an important percentage of the total energy that is generated in electrical grids. In order to reach higher levels of integration, demand side management measures are yet required. In fact, different from the legacy electrical grids, where at any given instant the generation levels are adjusted to meet the demand, when using renewable energy sources, the demand must be adapted in accordance with the generation levels, since these cannot be controlled. In order to alleviate users from the burden of individual control of each appliance, energy management systems (EMSs) have to be developed to both monitor the generation and consumption patterns and to control electrical appliances. In this context, the main contribution of this chapter is to present the implementation of such an IoT-based monitoring and control system for microgrids, capable of supporting the development of an EMS.

The aim of the present study was to compare leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) membranes with a connective tissue graft (CTG) in combination with a coronally advanced flap (CAF) in the treatment of Miller Class I or II localized gingival recessions. A randomized controlled clinical trial with 17 recessions in each group was initiated; the control group received treatment with CAF+CTG, and the test group received CAF+L-PRF. The following variables were measured before treatment and after 1, 3, and 6 months: gingival recession depth (RD), gingival recession width (RW), gingival thickness (GT), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and keratinized tissue height (KTH). Also, the root coverage percentage (RC), the pain score, postoperative complications, and the root coverage esthetic score (RES) were recorded after surgery. Both treatments presented significant improvements in the RD, RW, and CAL at 1, 3, and 6 months. CTG achieved a significantly higher RC at 1, 3, and 6 months and a significantly higher RES score at 6 months. L-PRF presented a significantly lower pain score and less postoperative complications. Both strategies were effective for the treatment of localized gingival recessions. The CTG obtained higher RC and esthetic results, and L-PRF had less pain and postsurgical complications.

In general, to avoid a singularity in cosmological models involves the introduction of exotic kind of matter fields, for example, a scalar field with negative energy density. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to describe the histological and clinical outcome of "dentin block" (a mixture of autologous particulate dentin, leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF), and liquid fibrinogen) in alveolar ridge preservation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ten extraction sockets were grafted with "dentin block," a mixture of particulate autologous dentin with chopped leukocyte-platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) membranes at a 1:1 ratio, and liquid fibrinogen as a binder. Two grafted sites were followed at 4 and 5 months, and 6 sites at 6 months. Biopsies were taken from the core of the grafted site for histologic and histo-morphometric analysis. RESULTS: All patients completed the study without any adverse event. The vertical and horizontal dimensions of the alveolar ridge were preserved or even increased after 4, 5, or 6 months and remained stable after 6 months of the implant placement. The histological examination revealed a median relative percentage of bone, dentin, and connective tissue of 57.0, 0.9, and 39.3%, respectively. A comparison of samples at different time points (4, 5, and 6 months) showed a progressive increase in the proportion of bone with a decrease in the proportion of dentin. The bone was compact with normal osteocytes and moderate osteoblastic activity. In 4 out of 10 samples, no dentin was observed; in the other samples, it represented 1-5% (with geometric fragments). CONCLUSIONS: Dentin block showed to be a suitable bone substitute in an alveolar ridges preservation model. Various studies have described the biological properties of the Leucocyte- and Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) such as the antimicrobial effect against wound bacteria, but less is known about the effect against periodontal pathogens. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial properties of the L-PRF membrane and L-PRF exudate against the main periopathogens cultured on agar plates and in planktonic solution. This study demonstrated the antibacterial effect of the L-PRF membrane against P. intermedia, F. nucleatum, and A. actinomycetemcomitans, but especially against P. gingivalis. The L-PRF exudate also showed a strong inhibition against P. gingivalis on agar plates. No inhibition could be observed for the other bacterial strains. Moreover, L-PRF exudate decreased the number of viable P.gingivalis in a planktonic solution in a dose-dependent way. However, A. actinomycetemcomitans showed an increased growth in planktonic solution when in contact with the L-PRF exudate.

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), a second-generation platelet concentrate, has been the focus of intensive research endeavors over the past 2 decades. Over the years, however, numerous reports have inaccurately reported relative centrifugal force (RCF) values, which has caused considerable confusion in the field. Furthermore, the use of trade names such as leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) and advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) has further confused many readers, since studies have not always used centrifugation parameters with equal rotor sizes, angulation of tubes, and/or tube design. This has led to considerable misperception in the report of relative centrifugal force. Herein is described necessary parameters pivotal for the future report of RCF in studies related to PRF, which include: 1) dimensions of the rotor (radius at the clot and end of the tube); 2) rotor angulation for the tube holder; 3) revolutions per minute (RPM) and time; 4) RCF value calculated at either the RCF-minimum, RCF-clot, or RCF-maximum; 5) composition and size of tubes used to produce PRF; and 6) centrifugation model used. This editorial aims to minimize confusion in the field and create more transparent research reporting RCF values in future studies.

In this paper we compute the CMB bispectrum for bouncing models motivated by Loop Quantum Cosmology. Despite the fact that the primordial bispectrum of these models is decaying exponentially above a large pivot scale, we find that the cumulative signal-to-noise ratio of the bispectrum induced in the CMB from scales $\ell < 30$ is larger than $10$ in all cases of interest and therefore can, in principle, be detected in the Planck data., 15 pages, 8 figures. BACKGROUND: Platelet concentrates like leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) have been widely evaluated in different oral surgical procedures to promote the healing process. However, liquid L-PRF products such as liquid fibrinogen have been poorly explored, especially in the biomimetic functionalization of dental implants. The aim of this in vitro study is to evaluate the interaction between 5 different dental implant surfaces and liquid fibrinogen. METHODS: Five commercially available dental implants with different surfaces (Osseospeed™, TiUnite™, SLActive®, Ossean®, and Plenum®) were immersed for 60 minutes in liquid fibrinogen obtained from healthy donors. After this period, the implants were removed and fixed for scanning electron microscopy (SEM). RESULTS: All dental implants were covered by a fibrin mesh. However, noticeable noncontact areas were observed for the Osseospeed™, TiUnite™, and SLActive® surfaces. On the other hand, Ossean® and Plenum® surfaces showed a dense and uniform layer of fibrin covering almost the entire implant surface. The Osseospeed™, TiUnite™, and SLActive® surfaces presented with lower blood cell numbers inside the fibrin mesh compared with the others. Moreover, at higher magnification, thicker fibrin fibers were observed in contact with Ossean® and Plenum® surfaces. The Plenum ®surface showed the thickest fibers which also inserted and interconnect to the microroughness. CONCLUSION: The initial contact between an implant surface and the fibrin network differs significantly among different implant brands. Summary: Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continues to cause very high morbidity and mortality throughout Latin American countries. However, few population-based seroprevalence surveys have been conducted to quantify attack rates and characterize drivers of transmission. Methods: We conducted a population-based cross-sectional study to assess the seroprevalence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in ten cities in Colombia between September and December 2020. The study involved multi-stage cluster sampling at each city. Participants provided a serum sample and answered a demographic and risk factor questionnaire. Prior infection by SARS-CoV-2 was ascertained using the ''SARS-CoV-2 Total (COV2T) Advia Centaur - Siemens'' chemiluminescence assay. Findings: A total of 17863 participants from 7320 households participated in the study. Seroprevalence varied substantially between cities, ranging from 26% (95%CI 23–29 %) in Medellín to 68% (95%CI 62–74 %) in Guapi. There were no differences in seroprevalence by sex, but seropositivity was higher in certain ethnic groups. There was substantial heterogeneity in seroprevalence within cities, driven to a large extent by a strong association between socioeconomic stratum and seropositivity. Interpretation: Colombia has been one of the Latin American countries most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study documented very high attack rates in several Colombian cities by the end of 2020 and identified key drivers of heterogeneities including ethnicity and socioeconomic stratum. Few studies of seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 have been conducted in Latin America, and therefore this study contributes to the fundamental understanding of the pandemic in the region. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of LPRF, placed in extraction sockets, on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). Materials and Methods: Thirty extraction sockets from eight patients (five males, three females, with a mean age of 17.37 years; range 12–25 years) requiring extraction of first premolars based on their orthodontic treatment plan participated in this split-mouth clinical trial. In one randomly selected quadrant of each jaw, the extraction socket was preserved as the experimental group by immediate placement of LPRF in the extraction socket. The other quadrant served as the control group for secondary healing. Immediately, the teeth adjacent to the defects were pulled together by a NiTi closed-coil spring with constant force. A piece of 0.016 × 0.022-inch stainless steel wire was used as the main arch wire. The amount of OTM was measured on the study casts at eight time points with 2-week intervals for 3 months. Analysis of random effect model was performed for the purpose of comparison between the experimental and control groups. Results: According to the random effect model, a statistically significant difference was found between the experimental and control group in rate of OTM (P = 0.006). Conclusion: According to the results, application of LPRF, as an interdisciplinary approach combining orthodontics and surgery, may accelerate OTM, particularly in extraction cases.

The Hamiltonian of any quantum cosmological model must obey some conditions in order to be self-adjoint or to admit self-adjoint extensions. We consider the self-adjoint character of the Hamiltonian resulting from the Brans-Dicke theory, both in Einstein and Jordan frames. In both cases we find the wave-function solutions in order to obtain concrete predictions for the evolution of the Universe. We show that the specific cosmological scenarios obtained depend very weakly on the conditions of having a self-adjoint operator. The problem of equivalence between the Einstein and Jordan frames is considered, and it is shown that this equivalence implies a specific ordering parameter as well as a particular choice of the physical variables.

The purpose of self-esteem is to feel and imagine that people nurtured in their mind over time about their self. In simple words, self-esteem is self-assessment; this perception and evaluation can be positive or negative and pleasant or unpleasant. Children with high self esteem, usually feel good about themselves and better able to resolve their conflicts with other children and are resistant to deal with problems. One of the most important human traits to achieve objectives is self-esteem. The term self-esteem means “reverence for self”. The “self” pertains to the values, beliefs, and attitudes that we hold about ourselves. Having a strong will and self-confidence, decision-making power and originality, creativity, sanity and mental health is directly related to self-esteem and sense of self-worth. It also refers to an individual’s sense of his or her value or worth, or the extent to which a person values, approves of, appreciates, prizes, or likes him or herself. During childhood, if individual’s feelings are respected, thoughts valued and abilities recognized then self-esteem strengthens. When feelings are trampled upon, thoughts belittled and ability criticized then the individual’s self-esteem remains at a low point of development and is therefore weak. During the course of time, an individual faces many life situations. Depending upon the success or failure and one's reaction to every significant situation in life, self–esteem grows stronger or gets considerably weakened Self-esteem is described as the evaluation that one makes about oneself, based on one's self-worth. Increases and decreases in self-esteem generally bring strong emotional reactions. Self-esteem and academic performance are interrelated factors. This study tries to bring the connectivity between academic performance and the self-esteem. The main aim of the study is to know the level of self-esteem of the students with low academic performance. The objectives of this study are to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and academic achievement, to understand the Socio-Economic background, to assess the level of self-esteem, and to know what could be the reason for low academic performance in spite of having high self-esteem. The criteria for measuring the quality of work life are Adequate and fair compensations, healthy working conditions, Opportunity to use and develop human capacities, Opportunity for career growth, Social Integration in the workforce, Work and quality of life, the Social relevance of work etc. The study shows that when there is better quality at work the productivity of the employees’ increases. Thus the quality of work life can lead to organizational effectiveness; organizational commitment, job satisfaction, providing employee motivation; personal growth and development enhance competencies which in turn would lead to increase productivity and profit. It also becomes important that suitable working condition will definitely influence the quality of work. The main aim of this research is to study the quality of work life of the private sector employees. Interview scheduled and the objectives are to study the various issues of the private sector employers and job satisfaction. 50 private service employees were selected randomly for the research to ask their opinion and the issues. Both primary and secondary source of information is used in the study.

L-PRF (leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin) is one of the four families of platelet concentrates for surgical use and is widely used in oral and maxillofacial regenerative therapies. The first objective of this article was to evaluate the mechanical vibrations appearing during centrifugation in four models of commercially available table-top centrifuges used to produce L-PRF and the impact of the centrifuge characteristics on the cell and fibrin architecture of a L-PRF clot and membrane. The second objective of this article was to evaluate how changing some parameters of the L-PRF protocol may influence its biological signature, independently from the characteristics of the centrifuge. In the first part, four different commercially available centrifuges were used to produce L-PRF, following the original L-PRF production method (glass-coated plastic tubes, 400 g force, 12 minutes). The tested systems were the original L-PRF centrifuge (Intra-Spin, Intra-Lock, the only CE and FDA cleared system for the preparation of L-PRF) and three other laboratory centrifuges (not CE/FDA cleared for L-PRF): A-PRF 12 (Advanced PRF, Process), LW-UPD8 (LW Scientific) and Salvin 1310 (Salvin Dental). Each centrifuge was opened for inspection, two accelerometers were installed (one radial, one vertical), and data were collected with a spectrum analyzer in two configurations (full-load or half load). All clots and membranes were collected into a sterile surgical box (Xpression kit, Intra-Lock). The exact macroscopic (weights, sizes) and microscopic (photonic and scanning electron microscopy SEM) characteristics of the L-PRF produced with these four different machines were evaluated. In the second part, venous blood was taken in two groups, respectively, Intra-Spin 9 ml glass-coated plastic tubes (Intra-Lock) and A-PRF 10 ml glass tubes (Process). Tubes were immediately centrifuged at 2700 rpm (around 400 g) during 12 minutes to produce L-PRF or at 1500 rpm during 14 minutes to produce A-PRF. All centrifugations were done using the original L-PRF centrifuge (Intra-Spin), as recommended by the two manufacturers. Half of the membranes were placed individually in culture media and transferred in a new tube at seven experimental times (up to 7 days). The releases of transforming growth factor β-1 (TGFβ-1), platelet derived growth factor AB (PDGF-AB), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) were quantified using ELISA kits at these seven experimental times. The remaining membranes were used to evaluate the initial quantity of growth factors of the L-PRF and A-PRF membranes, through forcible extraction. Very significant differences in the level of vibrations at each rotational speed were observed between the four tested centrifuges. The original L-PRF centrifuge (Intra-Spin) was by far the most stable machine in all configurations and always remained under the threshold of resonance, unlike the three other tested machines. At the classical speed of production of L-PRF, the level of undesirable vibrations on the original centrifuge was between 4.5 and 6 times lower than with other centrifuges. Intra-Spin showed the lowest temperature of the tubes. A-PRF and Salvin were both associated with a significant increase in temperature in the tube. Intra-Spin produced the heaviest clot and quantity of exudate among the four techniques. A-PRF and LW produced much lighter, shorter and narrower clots and membranes than the two other centrifuges. Light microscopy analysis showed relatively similar features for all L-PRF types (concentration of cell bodies in the first half). However, SEM illustrated considerable differences between samples. The original Intra-Spin L-PRF showed a strongly polymerized thick fibrin matrix and all cells appeared alive with a normal shape, including the textured surface aspect of activated lymphocytes. The A-PRF, Salvin and LW PRF-like membranes presented a lightly polymerized slim fibrin gel and most of the visible cell bodies appeared destroyed (squashed or shrunk). This paper describes the design, development and experimental validation of a wireless sensor network and a web-based platform for the monitoring and management of the INTA's microgrid, and shows the main results and conclusions of this integration. The work demonstrates how the management of renewable energy microgrids can be optimized through the deployment and implementation of low-power wireless monitoring networks, based on LoRaWan technology, integrated into an IoT platform with high data processing and storage capacity.

PURPOSE: The leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin block (L-PRF block) is a composite graft that combines a xenograft that is acting as a scaffold with L-PRF membranes that serve as a bioactive nodule with osteoinductive capacity. This study evaluated the properties of the L-PRF block and its components in terms of release of growth factors, cellular content, and structure. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The concentration of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet-derived growth factor-AB (PDGF-AB) and bone morphogenetic protein-1 (BMP-1) released by a L-PRF membrane (mb) and a L-PRF block were examined with ELISA for five time intervals (0 to 4 hours, 4 hours to 1 day, 1 to 3 days, 3 to 7 days, 7 to 14 days). Those levels in L-PRF exudate and liquid fibrinogen were also evaluated. The cellular content of the liquid fibrinogen, L-PRF membrane and exudate was calculated. The L-PRF block was also analyzed by means of a microCT scan and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). RESULTS: TGF-β1 was the most released growth factor after 14 days, followed by PDGF-AB, VEGF, and BMP-1. All L-PRF blocks constantly released the four growth factors up to 14 days. L-PRF membrane and liquid fibrinogen presented high concentration of leukocytes and platelets. The microCT and SEM images revealed the bone substitute particles surrounded by platelets and leukocytes, embedded in a dens fibrin network. This study aimed to describe the use of autologous fibrin glue (AFG) with a collagen carrier during maxillary sinus lift procedures with immediate implants during 3 years of follow-up. Twelve patients who had lost their teeth in the region associated to maxillary sinus, with a bone remnant 3 to 5 mm in height, were selected to perform a maxillary sinus augmentation with AFG and collagen membrane, placing the implant immediately. After 5 months, the implants were connected and rehabilitated. The patients were followed-up for a 3-year period, being evaluated every 6 months. At the end of the 3-year follow-up period, 100% implant success was observed, with a mean of bone augmentation of 7.75 mm. Three maxillary sinus membranes were perforated and healed by using AFG and collagen membrane without identify any complication during the follow-up period. Finally, the use of collagen carrier combined with AFG as a filling material during the maxillary sinus lift procedure may be a low-cost and reliable alternative that allows bone formation.

Aim To analyse the effect of Leucocyte- and Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) on bone regeneration procedures and osseointegration. Materials and Methods An electronic and hand search was conducted in three databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane). Only randomised clinical trials, written in English where L-PRF was applied in bone regeneration and implant procedures, were selected. No follow-up restrictions were applied. Results A total of 14 articles were included and processed. Three subgroups were created depending on the application: sinus floor elevation (SFE), alveolar ridge preservation, and implant therapy. In SFE, for a lateral window as well as for the trans-alveolar technique, histologically faster bone healing was reported when L-PRF was added to most common xenografts. L-PRF alone improved the preservation of the alveolar width, resulting in less buccal bone resorption compared to natural healing. In implant therapy, better implant stability over time and less marginal bone loss were observed when L-PRF was applied. Meta-analyses could not be performed due to the heterogeneity of the data. Conclusions Despite the lack of strong evidence found in this systematic review, L-PRF might have a positive effect on bone regeneration and osseointegration. This article is protected by copyright. Aim To analyse the regenerative potential of leucocyte‐ and platelet‐rich fibrin (L‐PRF) during periodontal surgery. Materials and Methods An electronic and hand search were conducted in three databases. Only randomized clinical trials were selected and no follow‐up limitation was applied. Pocket depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), bone fill, keratinized tissue width (KTW), recession reduction and root coverage (%) were considered as outcome. When possible, meta‐analysis was performed. Results Twenty‐four articles fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Three subgroups were created: intra‐bony defects (IBDs), furcation defects and periodontal plastic surgery. Meta‐analysis was performed in all the subgroups. Significant PD reduction (1.1 ± 0.5 mm, p 0.05), CAL gain (0.2 ± 0.5 mm, p > 0.05), KTW (0.3 ± 0.4 mm, p > 0.05) and recession reduction (0.2 ± 0.3 mm, p > 0.05). Conclusions L‐PRF enhances periodontal wound healing.

Classical mechanics for individual physical systems and quantum mechanics of non-relativistic particles are shown to be exceptional cases of a generalized dynamics described in terms of maps between two manifolds, the source being configuration space. The target space is argued to be 2-dimensional and flat, and their orthogonal directions are physically interpreted. All terms in the map equation have a geometrical meaning in the target space, and the pull-back of its rotational Killing one-form allows the construction of a velocity field in configuration space. Identification of this velocity field with tangent vectors in the source space leads to the dynamical law of motion. For a specific choice of an arbitrary scalar function present in the map equation, and using Cartesian coordinates in the target space, the map equation becomes linear and can be reduced to the Schr\"odinger equation. We link the bi-dimensionality of the target space with the essential non-locality of quantum mechanics. Este artigo é o resultado de um estudo que investigou a pesquisa histórica nos museus brasileiros. Inicialmente o texto parte de um levantamento da origem dos museus na Europa e no Brasil e mais especificamente os museus de história, seu desenvolvimento e quantitativo. Num segundo momento, o trabalho analisa o referencial teórico sobre a questão da pesquisa histórica e sua inserção no contexto dos museus como atividade essencial da cadeia operatória museológica. Finalmente foi realizada a análise do Centro Nacional da Memória Adventista (CNMA), localizado no Centro Universitário Adventista de São Paulo (UNASP EC), e sua atuação na pesquisa histórica. Os resultados obtidos e as reflexões produzidas pelos autores são apresentados ao final do texto.
