Background: Cemento-osseous dysplasias (CODs) are rare lesions of the jawbone. Their occurrence, localization, type, size, and shape can vary between cases. This fibro-osseous lesion is typically found in the jaw near tooth-bearing areas and is often asymptomatic, discovered incidentally, and may be associated with the periapical region of the teeth. In rare cases, COD can lead to secondary bone osteomyelitis. Currently, there is limited information in the literature on the occurrence and characteristics of COD. This paper's main aim was to focus on the authors' COD experience in the lower Silesian area. Methods: A retrospective evaluation of radiographies (RTG-Panx, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)) was conducted on patients treated, diagnosed, or consulted by the authors. A statistical correlation analysis was made to establish any relationship within the gathered data. Results: COD is predominantly an incidental finding in the mandibular bone near tooth apices. It is most commonly diagnosed in females. Both CBCT and panoramic radiographies are generally sufficient for diagnosing the lesion. COD rarely requires treatment. Conclusions: COD lesions are mostly discovered incidentally during routine radiographies or cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. In most cases, clinical and radiological monitoring is sufficient, along with evaluating the teeth's response to cold stimuli and assessing the surrounding bone structures. Biopsies or tooth extractions are seldom necessary. When oral hygiene is well-maintained and no periapical inflammation is present, COD lesions typically remain asymptomatic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background/Objectives: The practice of holding anticoagulation is a relatively common approach, with the aim of either preventing excessive bleeding in preparation for surgical procedures or managing acute bleeding episodes. Methods: To assess the relationship between the discontinuation of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) therapy and the condition of hypercoagulability, a systematic review of the literature was conducted, following PRISMA guidelines, in PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane, and Google Scholar. These databases were searched for all publications that described a rebound phenomenon or hypercoagulability state after DOACs discontinuation. Results: A total of 1494 articles were selected from searched databases, and 29 were eligible. A final total of 16 case reports and 14 original research articles were subjected to analysis. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the cessation of DOAC therapy may be associated with an increased risk of thrombotic events. More studies are required to ascertain whether DOACs treatment cessation can be linked to rebound phenomena associated with thromboembolic events. In the case of any pathologies arising in the hard palate, it is always important to exclude their possible odontogenic origins. Cone-beam computed tomography is mandatory. In cases where a possible non-teeth-related pathology is confirmed, each clinician should remember possible differential diagnostics. Many small salivary glands between the mucosa and bone are present in this palatal area. Both benign and malignant tumors arising from the small glands, and mucosa of the hard palate, might occur. The case presented here mimics a solid tumor because of the nodule consistency. Because of a healthy palatal mucosa without any erosions or irritations with firm attachment to the submucosal nodule, a possible malignant tumor of small salivary gland origins was suspected in this case. When the tumor diameter is small, an excisional biopsy is required to collect good and representative material for further histopathological evaluation. In most cases, bulky nodules present on the palate are hard on palpation, non-movable, and covered with healthy mucosa. Possible bone infiltrations with mucous membrane ulcerations could manifest a more expansive character of the lesion. In the presented case, an unusual occurrence of a traumatic neuroma without any past traumatic etiology of the palate was first differentiated from the occurrence of adenoid-cystic carcinoma (ACC), pleomorphic adenoma, other benign/malignant small gland tumors, or atypical, fibroma/schwannoma of the palate. This paper presents treatment options for this rare oral neural tumor occurrence in the palate and differential diagnosis between hard palate tumors in a 42-year-old male patient, furthermore highlighting the role of an excisional biopsy as a good source for a tissue sample. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a commonly performed minimally invasive procedure. Air embolism in a patient undergoing ERCP is relatively rare, accounting for approximately 2–3% of procedures performed, and a catastrophic air embolism is even rarer. Symptoms of air embolism can come from the cardiopulmonary and nervous system. It is important to remember this in the differential diagnosis of complications of ERCP, as early detection is crucial. In the case presented here, the diagnostic CT scan performed immediately after the incident brings awareness of how massive an air embolism can be. The CT results showed gas bubbles entering both the superior and inferior vena cava. The presence of air has been captured in the bile ducts, duodenum wall, heart, femoral veins and intracranially. Risk factors for this complication include previous biliary surgeries, the presence of prostheses and stents, cholangitis, liver tumors and anatomical anomalies such as hepatobiliary fistulas, as well as intrahepatic and extrahepatic anatomical leaks. As gas embolism is associated with serious health consequences, knowledge of the problem and adequate preparation may reduce the occurrence of the problem. Attention should be paid to basic and easily obtainable precautions when performing the procedure, such as the patient's hemodynamic status, adequate hydration and positioning during the procedure. Objectives: A mucous retention cyst is a common, asymptomatic lesion that may cause complications during or after the sinus lift procedure. The goal of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the Croco Eye Technique (CET), which allows simultaneous excision of the cyst and sinus floor elevation. Methods: The technique was thoroughly described in two versions, and the group of 33 patients was analyzed. Patients who qualified for this procedure had insufficient alveolar ridge height, and their CBCT showed radiological images typical for retention cysts. Analyzed parameters included the version of CET, demographic data, anatomical parameters, intraoperative complications, recurrence of the cyst, success rate of the sinus lift and implants, and the follow-up period. Results: Out of the 33 cases, 9 were of the primary version (27.27%) and 24 of the final version (72.73%). The average height of a retention cyst was 24.05 mm, with the average alveolar ridge height of 1.86 mm. In three cases (9.09%), implants were placed immediately. The prevalence of uncontrolled Schneiderian membrane perforation was reduced from 55.56% to 4.17% between the primary and final versions. The cyst's recurrence rate was 3.13%. The implant survival rate was 100%. The mean follow-up period was 48.625 months (max 110 months). Conclusions: The Croco Eye Technique, despite the perforation of the Schneiderian membrane, enables successful sinus lift and implantation with a success rate of 100%. Excision of the retention cyst, which is the cause of perforation, allows for limiting the risk of the cyst's recurrence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) remains the diagnostic modality of choice. The involvement of the cortical bone and adjacent teeth can be easily established via CBCT. Magnetic resonance can be helpful in the estimation of any other soft-tissue tumour spread within this anatomical area. The soft, hard-tissue, or mixed aetiology of tumours requires a differential diagnosis and accurate evaluation. If such pathologies arise, an adequate biopsy or incisional biopsy is essential to evaluate the type of tumour histopathologically. The occurrence of some neural tumours in the oral cavity is rare. Schwannomas (SCs), like some neuromas and other types of neural tumours, are rare and atypical. During clinical examination, a smooth, sponge-like, elastic mass could indicate other small salivary gland tumours rather than an oral neural tumour. Such pathologies of neural origins are quite rare and are uncommon findings in the oral cavity; therefore, their appearance may be conflated with other more typical benign or malignant tumours in the oral cavity. Establishing the status of bone via CBCT, the tooth involvement and the composition of the cortical bone may be helpful for establishing the best treatment of choice. Clefts that occur in children are a special topic. Avoiding risk factors, and also an early diagnosis of cleft possibility can result in minimizing or avoiding them. If on the other hand when clefts occur they require a long-term, multistage specialized treatment. Etiology of clefts seems to be related to many factors. Factors such as genetic, environmental, geographic and even race factors are important. Identification of risk factors can lead to prevention and prophylactic behaviors in order to minimize its occurrence. Exposure to environmental factors at home and work that lead to cleft predisposition should not be disregarded. It seems that before planning a family it would be wise to consult with doctors of different specializations, especially in high-risk families with cleft history in order to analyze previous lifestyle. Clefts are very common in hereditary facial malformations and are causing a lot of other irregularities in the head and neck region. In this paper after a brief papers review authors present socio-geographic, environmental and also work place related factors that are influencing pregnant women condition and should be taken under serious consideration.
