2. A Framework for People Re-Identification in Multi-Camera Surveillance Systems

Abstract

People re-identification has been a very active research topic recently in computer vision. It is an important application in surveillance system with disjoint cameras. This paper is focused on the implementation of a human re-identification system. First the face of detected people is divided into three parts and some soft-biometric traits are extracted from each part. In second step, we can recognize people even if their faces are hidden or they are with back appearance. The features extraction will be carried out according to the overall characteristics of the complete images of different persons. An algorithm that identifies people from their body shape will be developed. A powerful representation of the person based on the characteristics of color, texture and shape as well as different soft-biometric features is suggested. The experiments are carried out on SAIVT-SoftBio database which consists of videos from disjoint surveillance cameras as well as some static image based datasets (MUCT, VIPeR, CVSRP). 3. Educational Assessment of Students in Primary School in Tunisia

Abstract

Regardless of the study level, the assessments applied in the different educational institutions in Tunisia raise many questions. Do these practices indicate the learners' cognitive metamorphoses? Do formative and summative evaluations intend to access knowledge acquisition at the expense of understanding? Is the content of the evaluation approaches and instruments an important part of the learners' previous knowledge? Is there any relationship between this content and the specific knowledge base of the learner? Does the evaluation instruments structure provide access to knowledge construction? Is this structure oriented towards the evaluation of low-level cognitive skills more than to the assessment of high-level cognitive skills? Does the assessment context introduce affective variables that may influence learners' results in a negative way? Do the used instruments allow consistently determining the learners' strengths and weaknesses? Do the correction criteria respect all the learner's responses worth to build up a special knowledge? Do objectivity requirements influence these criteria more than the cognitive value of responses? In fact, all of these questions risen show the seriousness and complexity of the evaluation problem in the school environment as well as the cognitive progress of the learners. They are quite related to the subject matter of the evaluation instruments and their structure as well as their objectives and the background they are taking place in than to the correction criteria. In this paper, we propose a personalized evaluation environment for mobile learning. We first introduce m-evaluation scenario. Then, we describe this personalization as well as the architecture of the evaluation environment composed of Web services and based on communication between these services carried out via Semantic web technologies. The environment presented allows assessing the learners' knowledge of a particular teaching content by first of all searching, then selecting and finally generating a test well adapted to their knowledge level. In fact, a new course will be introduced once the evaluation is accomplished. We also managed an experimentation based on concluding the student's satisfaction degree. 5. A logical representation of Arabic questions toward automatic passage extraction from the Web

Abstract

With the expanding growth of Arabic electronic data on the web, extracting information, which is actually one of the major challenges of the question-answering, is essentially used for building corpus of documents. In fact, building a corpus is a research topic that is currently referred to among some other major themes of conferences, in Natural Language Processing (NLP), such as, Information Retrieval (IR), Question-Answering (QA), Automatic Summary (AS), etc. Generally, a question-answering system provides various passages to answer the user questions. To make these passages truly informative, this system needs access to an underlying knowledge base; this requires the construction of a corpus. The aim of our research is to build an Arabic question-answering system. In addition, analyzing the question must be the first step. Next, it is essential to retrieve a passage from the web that can serve as an appropriate answer. In this paper, we propose a method to analysis the question and retrieve the passage answer in the Arabic language. For the question analysis, five factual question types are processed. Additionally, our purpose is to experiment with the generation of a logic representation from the declarative form of each question. Several studies, deal with the logic approaches in question-answering, are discussed in other languages than the Arabic language. This representation is very promising because it helps us later in the selection of a justifiable answer. The accuracy of questions that are correctly analyzed and translated into the logic form achieved 64%. And then, the results of passages of texts that are automatically generated achieved an 87% score for accuracy and a 98% score for c@1.

7. A Preliminary Study for Building an Arabic Corpus of Pair Questions-Texts from the Web: AQA-Webcorp

Abstract

With the development of electronic media and the heterogeneity of Arabic data on the Web, the idea of building a clean corpus for certain applications of natural language processing, including machine translation, information retrieval, question answer, become more and more pressing. In this manuscript, we seek to create and develop our own corpus of pair's questions-texts. This constitution then will provide a better base for our experimentation step. Thus, we try to model this constitution by a method for Arabic insofar as it recovers texts from the web that could prove to be answers to our factual questions. To do this, we had to develop a java script that can extract from a given query a list of html pages. Then clean these pages to the extent of having a data base of texts and a corpus of pair's question-texts. In addition, we give preliminary results of our proposal method. Some investigations for the construction of Arabic corpus are also presented in this document.

23. Agent-Based Collaborative Affective e-Learning Framework

Abstract

Based on facial expression (FE), this paper explores the possible use of the affective communication in virtual environments (VEs). The attention of affective communication is examined and some research ideas for developing affective communication in virtual environments are proposed. We place an emphasis on communication between virtual entities, which make use of other data apart from the information being communicated. In particular, we explore the capacity of VEs to communicate affective states, i.e. those aspects of communication concerned with emotional response, and discover how agents within VEs can model and use affective states to enhance the realism of the VEs. Moreover, we discuss the social intelligence that renders affective behaviours of software agents and its application to a collaborative learning system. We argue that socially appropriate affective behaviours would provide a new dimension for collaborative e-learning systems.
