Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is often criticized for being overly broad and abstract, if not cynical and deceitful. This leaves many stakeholders frustrated or disengaged, including occasionally the organization's own staff and shareholders. We see the extraordinary disruptions of the past three years amid the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to reengage with CSR in a more meaningful way. Echoing early conceptualizations by academics and practitioners, we turn to the idea of neighborliness as a guide for this transformation, outlining concrete ways in which this can be operationalized for focused engagements that reflect each company's embeddedness in distinct communities. After declaring independence in January 1991, North Macedonia decided that its future would be in the family of democratic peoples of Europe. North Macedonia has clearly expressed its priority for membership in the European Union as one of its strategic and vital interests. With the realization of this determination, the Republic of North Macedonia was legitimized as a reliable partner and ally of the European Union, but it still went through a series of different stages in the development of relations, rapprochement, and integration in the EU. We all know that reforms are required within the states that seek and want to be members of the European Union. There are several important steps through which the state of North Macedonia, a candidate country, has shown its goodwill in the long path of integration and contribution. The key points and changes necessary to achieve the goal of being part of the European Union that have been realized so far are the following: the Prespa Agreement between North Macedonia and Greece, the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness, and the Union of Cooperation, between Macedonia North and Bulgaria. This paper analyzes North Macedonia's approach to the European Union, the transition, its difficulties and challenges on this path, and the Constitution's changes. The collective efforts of various social actors from different sectors have contributed to climate change mitigation. Identifying the important antecedents of collaborative behavior to address climate change helps us understand the underlying process. This study focused on important theoretical frameworks that determine collaborative behavior as civic engagement. Specifically, the study examines perceived societal risk to future generations, sense of community as responsibility (SOC-R), neighborliness, and trust in collaborative behavior to mitigate climate change. It also investigates the boundary conditions of the effects of societal risk perception on collaborative behavior change by examining the moderating roles of SOC-R, neighborliness, and trust. A nationwide online survey was conducted in South Korea. The findings reveal significant effects of societal risk perception and SOC-R on behavioral intention. Moreover, SOC-R and trust moderated the causal relationship between societal risk perception and behavioral intention, such that the relationship was more pronounced at lower SOC-R and trust. This article challenges David Rudd's recent criticism of 'The Reading Critics' school of children's literature criticism, which he takes to be problematic in so far as it is intolerant towards traditions that stray outside its own narrow concerns. Rudd forwards in its place an approach that is generous and dynamic. Through a close reading of Rudd's analysis of both Winnie-the Pooh and psychoanalysis, this article understands the politics and poetics of tolerance to open some difficult questions. What are the limits of tolerance? Is what Rudd forwards merely a tolerance of the tolerable? Is his forgiving attitude to the work of 'The Reading Critics', as he mourns their passing, tolerance also? What if these critics were to object to such tolerance, or read violence or erasure within it? Most significantly, this article is interested in how such tolerance, and the celebration of open community, fits within the 'broadly Lacanian framework' that Rudd elsewhere champions. As Lacan has, at best, an ambivalent attitude to the politics of neighborliness, this article argues that the defense of a 'broad' and tolerant approach to theory that calls upon his work is only made possible by arguments that neglect the specifics of Lacan's writing. Motivated by this formula, we introduce a distribution, called the Lah distribution, and study its properties. In particular, we provide a combinatorial interpretation of the Lah distribution in terms of random compositions and records, and explicitly compute its factorial moments. Contemporary residential large urban developments have become a prominent mode of housing development in many cities. Recent studies portray new mechanisms through which social relations and communities are formed. Yet, an integrative multiscale analysis of the social mechanisms that emerge in contemporary housing environments is lacking. Using Bourdieu's social space theory, we examine the transformations in dwelling experience and neighborly relations that integrate a multiscale exploration of the vertical (towers) and the horizontal (complexes of towers), at the center of Israel. We argue that residential large urban developments pose new challenges for dwellers as well as give rise to a new kind of resident-neighbor, presenting a new array of socio-spatial behaviors, needs, expectations, and relations with the urban environment. • Contemporary residential large urban developments (LUDs) have become a prominent mode of housing development in many cities. • Yet, an integrative multiscale analysis of the social mechanisms that emerge in contemporary housing environments is lacking. • Residential LUDs pose new challenges for dwellers, and present new sociospatial relations with the urban environment. • We reveal distinct practices, socio-spatial structures, and positions that shape new dwelling experiences in residential LUDs. Migration is a traumatic event that people pursue to improve their living conditions. Such a traumatic event shakes people's existential balance, and they may alter or even lose interest in their present and future and enduringly remain mentally absorbed in the past. The exploitation of migrant women during the health crisis did not stop, it simply changed form: abuse both indoors and online is a new form of sexual exploitation. In such a setting an evident need may emerge to put in place intervention strategies that are primarily concerned with facilitating resilient processes that take into account three dimensions of the person: the cognitive and meta-cognitive dimension; the motivational and cognitive dimension; the relational and affective dimension. The purpose of this study is to test hypotheses regarding the effects of commuting on commuters' access to community-based communication resources and their level of community engagement. This study is guided by communication infrastructure theory. Online survey interviews were conducted with 1,028 Seoul residents between May 30 and June 17, 2014. We found that (1) commuters showed a higher level of community engagement than noncommuters; (2) among commuters, there was a negative relationship between commuting time and a sense of neighborhood belonging; (3) commuting time showed a positive relationship with access to community-based communication resources (i.e., integrated connectedness to community storytelling network [ICSN]) and community participation; (4) among four place-based identity groups (integrators, home-dominant group, workplace-dominant group, and disconnectors), integrators, who connected to both home and workplace, showed the highest level of ICSN and community engagement; and (5) ICSN mediated between commuting variables and community engagement variables. Many examples of Irish folklore reflect and instill enduring conceptions about the workings, vulnerability, and viability of community, which is understood to be a doing, a project in need of continual maintenance. Arguably, there has been no more devastating blow to the vernacular understanding of community as social contract for mutual support than the mid-nineteenth-century Famine in Ireland. If folklore provides models for contemplating and reproducing ideas about how community may be enacted, it also bears witness to the haunting consequences of abandoning community. This article, by looking at the life, career, and thought of Howard Thurman, one of the most significant African American religious thinkers of the twentieth century, argues that one way to understand the call for racial integration by Thurman and others in the mid-century is through the demand to restructure urban space in less exclusive ways. The failure to realize this, in the 1960s, led to calls for defending "black space" in cities, although this too proved to be a failure. Social capital is a collective characteristic of communities that determines the health and well-being of populations. There is ample evidence supporting the link between social capital and health; however, less is known about the relationship between social capital and health communication behaviors. Our study aimed to investigate the relationships between social capital and health communication in Singaporean adults aged 21 years and above. Cross-sectional data (N = 1,012) were collected from the Singapore Population Health Studies (SPHS) Online Panel. Three main outcome variables assessing health communication behaviors in the past 12 months were (1) health information-seeking; health information-sharing (2) with family members and (3) with friends and coworkers. Two components of social capital were assessed: structural component (i.e., community participation) and cognitive component (i.e., perceived neighborliness). Regression analyses found that community participation and perceived neighborliness were significantly associated with health information-seeking. The analyses also found that perceived cohesion was a significant correlate of health information-sharing with family members. Finally, moderation tests indicated that perceived neighborliness moderated the relationships between trust in information sources and health communication (health information-seeking and health information-sharing with friends/coworkers). Neighborliness plays a critical role in promoting social integration, and is known to positively influence health and psychosocial adjustment. We examined variation in neighborliness based on developmental transitions as well as on the neighborhood context. We examined the direct and moderating role of neighborhood factors, to determine whether the neighborhood context modified the influence of developmental transitions on neighborliness. We analyzed data from a longitudinal study of Australian communities, in addition to census data. First, we analyzed developmental transition clusters. Next, we employed multilevel modeling to assess the impact of clusters and other key factors on neighborliness. We tested interactions to determine whether the influence of cluster membership on neighborliness was modified by the neighborhood. We found evidence for direct effects of cluster membership and structural factors on neighborliness. In addition, the neighborhood context modified the influence of cluster membership on neighborliness. This article explores the ways in which the white working‐class residents of a suburban English town reflect on their relationships with their British Asian Pakistani Muslim neighbors. Its focus is on how everyday constructions of home become sites for the intermingling of discourses of intercultural conviviality and racism. My contention is that the idea of home has not yet been given the detailed critical attention that it deserves in the sociological literature on everyday manifestations of multiculturalism, conviviality, and racism. My supposition is that a special focus on the idea of home as the site of conviviality offers a productive avenue to analyze how intercultural relationships are formed and how the norms of neighborliness are thought to break down, opening a space for commonplace racialized and racist stereotypes to take hold. The idea of home is central to the rhythm and landscape of the English suburbs. It conjures up the idea of a uniform and aspirational white space. Drawing on this imaginary of home, I shall trace how "white working class" "English," "Scottish," and "Anglo‐Italian" residents' everyday constructions of home become embroiled with their relationships with their British Asian Pakistani Muslim neighbors. City Island (De Felita, 2009) and Shortbus (Mitchell, 2006), independent films produced around the 2008 economic crisis, characterize their titular New York locations as 'off-the-grid,' exclusive bastions of authentic individual and communal life exempted from the norms and pressures of neoliberal urban culture. At the same time, however, they extend this status to New York City as a whole by valorizing its rectilinear grid as a monumental structure that allows citizens to master their environment. In doing so, while these films advance provocative visions of counterpublics, they also reinscribe the neoliberal idealization of consumption as freedom, here producing the city itself, both periphery and center, built environment and residents, as an image to be consumed rather than a space to be remade as its residents choose. In the second half of the 1870s, relations between the United States and Mexico faced a difficult situation. On the one hand, an acute diplomatic and security crisis occurred, involving various dimensions of Mexican sovereignty. On the other hand, foundations for modern economic exchange between the two countries were laid, based on the developing railroad connection. This article analyses this situation focusing on the relationship between diplomatic, economic and information interactions, seeking to understand how the conflict was settled. The analysis of the crisis management demon-strates that the solution was contingent upon the use of unconventional diplomatic channels, which had important implications for the course of the bilateral relationships that followed. Mass media, in particular television series, that carry out the functions of entertainment and education together, has the characteristics to appeal to audience profile from every segment. Because of this characteristics, it has the opportunity to reach people from all ages. People finding something about themselves in these domestic series is an important factor why the ratings of these series are higher compared to other series. Seksenler TV series was included in the study since it reflected Turkish neighborhood life and since it was the longest-running series in recent times. The series considerably reflects the neighborhood relations that are part of the Turkish social life. At the same time, it can be shown as an important example among the series reflecting traditional Turkish way of life. This can be the reason why the series ran long. With its narrow streets and coffeehouse where the greengrocer, barber, butcher, neighborhood headman, guard and other people from the neighborhood meet, the series reflect an exact neighborhood atmosphere. The series frequently portray important Turkish neighborhood rituals and values like neighborhood relations, cooperation, solidarity, sharing, respect and love between the young and the elders. Concepts like our neighborhood, our neighborhood's kid and our neighborhood's people and social values like protection, looking out and neighborly relations are the main themes that come to the forefront in the series. Chosen as the study topic because of these characteristics, the series can be considered as reflecting the neighborhood understanding that the Turkish social life brings forward. This essay explores a global and existential problem—how ordinary people live and contend with historically deep subordination, humiliation, and exclusion—through an examination of the everyday lives of formerly untouchable caste Dalit communities in Kerala, India. I look at this through the lens of neighborliness: how people discuss how they live together with other castes and classes in small town and rural Kerala. Their continuing struggles with and experiences of humiliation and subordination must be placed within the historical context of Kerala, where deep inequality previously constituted every social relationship, and where the communist movement and other important social and political transformations have radically transformed living conditions and provided new languages and possibilities of equality within the official public sphere, if not the household. Drawing from the anthropology of ethics and engaging with philosophical discussions of living with others, I scrutinize neighborliness as an ethical landscape for Dalits living in new kinds of neighborhoods produced by political and social transformation. In doing so, I also reflect upon the ongoing conversations and interactions within which, for Dalits, respect, dignity, and worth are at stake. The essay also suggests new ways of understanding publics that are neither private nor part of the official public, but rather are networks of houses within rural neighborhoods—what I call " private-publics ," which are constituted through gendered caste relations. The problem of antisocial behavior (ASB) undermines the life quality of urban residents. While many previous studies on ASB focused on the solutions, little effort has been dedicated to finding out the social determinants of the levels of ASB problems in private housing communities, especially in high-rise residential settings in Asian cities. Previous empirical research suggests that ASB seriousness can be a function of poor neighborliness, community detachment and management efficacy. Yet, the link between housing tenure mix and ASB problems has been underexplored in the literature. In this light, a multilevel design with hierarchical modeling was employed to test the hypothesized direct and indirect (moderation) effects of housing tenure mix on the perceived seriousness of ASB in neighborhoods. The dataset came from a structured questionnaire survey of 592 residents living in 17 private high-rise housing communities in Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong. The results indicated that the seriousness of the ASB problem was largely dependent on poor neighborliness and community detachment. A higher level of renting in a housing community was also found to amplify perceived ASB seriousness, and enhance the influence of poor neighborliness on ASB seriousness. The research findings highlight the importance of tenure mix in predicting the degree of ASB proliferation in a housing community.

This study examines if a local government's policies depend on that of similarly situated counties, called "neighborliness," by analyzing the panel data of county governments in California from 2001 to 2014. In our study, the results show that the spending pattern of a local government is positively influenced by neighboring governments that are similar in terms of personal income and geographic proximity, whereas racial similarity does not work as a "neighboring" characteristic. Local governments benchmark the policies or programs of other neighboring governments, as they might face similar policy issues based on similar economic and environmental conditions. Background: Neighborhood cohesion, which refers to the extent of the connectedness and solidarity among residents in a community or neighborhood, is an important determinant of human health. To enhance neighborhood cohesion, the “Learning Families Project” was developed with a series of intervention programs in Kwun Tong in Hong Kong, a district with low neighborhood cohesion. This project, based on the social ecological model, provided a platform for neighbors to learn, communicate and interact with each other. Methods: This quasi-experimental study included two nearby government subsidized low rent housing estates separated by busy main roads. One served as the intervention (Tsui Ping (South) Estate) and one as the control (Shun Tin Estate) estate. The intervention included promotion, resident training and learning programs, embodied by a series of community activities such as talks, day camp, thematic activities and horticulture class. Baseline (before the programs) and follow-up (one year after the programs) surveys were conducted both in the intervention and control estate to assess the impact of the programs on neighborhood cohesion. Results: The number of residents who completed both the baseline and follow-up surveys was 502 in the intervention estate and 476 in the control estate. Neighborhood cohesion significantly improved in the intervention group after the programs (Cohen effect size d: 0.15). Compared with the control group, the improvements in closeness of the neighborhood and trust in neighbors were significantly greater in the intervention group (Cohen effect size d: 0.13 and 0.14, respectively). Conclusion: This brief intervention program using a quasi-experimental study design increased neighborhood cohesion in a low rent housing estate.
