Background: Removable prostheses have seen a fundamental change recently because of advances in polymer materials, allowing improved durability and performance. Despite these advancements, notable differences still occur amongst various polymer materials and processing technologies, requiring a thorough grasp of their mechanical, physical, and therapeutic implications. The compressive strength of dentures manufactured using various technologies will be investigated. Methods: Traditional, injection molding, and additive and subtractive CAD/CAM processing techniques, all utilizing Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the main material, were used to construct complete dentures. The specimens underwent a compressive mechanical test, which reveals the differences in compressive strength. Results: All the specimens broke under the influence of a certain force, rather than yielding through flow, as is characteristic for plastic materials. For each specimen, the maximum force (N) was recorded, as well as the breaking energy. The mean force required to break the dentures for each processing technology is as follows: 4.54 kN for traditional packing-press technique, 17.92 kN for the injection molding technique, 1.51 kN for the additive CAD/CAM dentures, and 5.9 kN for the subtractive CAD/CAM dentures. Conclusions: The best results were obtained in the case of the thermoplastic injection system and the worst results were recorded in the case of 3D printed samples. Another important aspect depicted is the standard deviation for each group, which reveal a relatively unstable property for the thermoplastic injected dentures. Good results here in terms of absolute property and stability of the property can be conferred to CAD/CAM milled group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim of the study In the field of digital dentistry, Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems have changed the fabrication of prosthetic restorations by fulfilling both the aesthetic requirements and mechanical performance. This study aims to highlight, by conducting a chromatic evaluation of zirconium oxide when altering the sintering parameters Materials and methods Four groups of zirconium oxide each group formed by 5 copings were made through milling and Exocad digital design software. The design was completed and the files were processed with the Zeno 4030 M1 milling machine (I-MES Wieland). Following milling, the copings were sintered in HTS MIHM-VOGT furnace at a maximum sintering temperature of 1650°C and heating rates of 30°C/min or a rapid rate of 90°C/min. Controlled cooling prevented rapid temperature decrease, thereby minimizing internal stress. Modifications of time and temperature parameters were applied to groups 2, 3, and 4. Chromatic analysis of the specimens was registered with the Vita Easy Shade spectrophotometer. Results It was found that adjustments in sintering temperature and timing are significantly affecting the chromatic outcomes of the non-metallic zirconium structures. Temperature adjustments facilitate the coalescence of zirconium oxide particles and the formation of a robust structure, with changes in it affecting the optical behaviour of the structure. Deviations from the optimum temperature and sintering timing parameters negatively affect the shade. Conclusions In conclusion, milled and sintered zirconium oxide structures can achieve aesthetic excellence, provided by the sintering protocol when the temperatures and sintering furnaces are accurately calibrated. Introduction. Chronic periodontal diseases and dental caries are the primary reasons for tooth loss in adults, which is further increased in people with diabetes. In most cases of bone loss, the treatment of partial edentulous patients with implant supported restorations impose additional surgical procedures, like sinus lift elevation and bone augmentation, which can complicate the healing process. Case report. This case report presents a type 2 diabetes female patient with several oral health problems, like periodontal disease, poor decay control, bad oral hygiene, a severe maxillary atrophy and the presence of a large maxillary periapical cyst. After a careful examination, based on clinical and radiographic findings, a comprehensive treatment plan was established. The sequential treatment plan consists in extraction, surgical removal of periapical cyst, bilateral external sinus lift procedures and bone augmentation. The surgical protocol was adapted to the particular health conditions of this type 2 diabetes patient. Conclusion. Sinus elevation and bone augmentation are predictable procedures often required when restoring the posterior maxilla with dental implants. In case of diabetes patients with bone resorption and defects due to periapical cyst, if the correct protocol is followed, no post-surgical complications and good result in bone augmentation can be attaint. Background. Saliva sampling is a non-invasive, cheap, easy-to-access alternative to traditional tissue and blood sampling. Saliva is an accurate indicator of bodily conditions, and salivary biomarkers may serve as early diagnostic tools. In this study we aimed to validate the salivary expression of a panel of 5 microRNAs, identified from a literature screen as potential noninvasive biomarkers for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) diagnosis, prediction and therapy monitoring. Materials and methods. The research subjects included patients diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma hospitalized at the Clinic of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Timişoara. The biological samples (saliva) were collected from the patients before the biopsy procedure. We included in this study a group of 4 patients and a control group of 4 individuals without OSCC. For microRNA quantification, we performed reverse transcription using the TaqMan® MicroRNA Reverse Transcription Kit (Thermofisher) followed by quantitative Real-Time PCR (qRTPCR) using TaqMan™ MicroRNA Assays (Thermofisher); all qRT-PCR reactions were performed in triplicate. Results. With the exception of miR-181b, all the investigated microRNAs were found to have deregulated expression in OSCC patients' saliva. Hsa-miR-137 was found to be up-regulated in the saliva of OSCC patients while hsa-miR-205 was found to be strongly down-regulated. However, we were able to confirm the activation of expression of hsa-miR-127-5b and the strong repression of hsa-miR-375 in the saliva of OSCC patients. The data upon hsa-miR-181 expression in OSCC have been conflicting, ranging from strong down-regulation in tissue samples and possible usage as therapeutic tool to correlation with metastasis propensity; however, we have not detected changes in the expression levels in saliva. Conclusions. Detection of deregulated miRNA biomarkers in saliva samples is a promising noninvasive assay for risk assessment of oral malignancy, which may add value to the histologic diagnosis. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) antibacterial solution in penetrating the demineralized areas of enamel., Materials and Methods: It was considered a group of four extracted teeth (with no color fading, fissures, decay, or demineralization). Each tooth was sectioned in two equal parts, in mesio-distal direction, using a dental handpiece and a special rounded, flat bur. Each specimen was demineralized, for one minute, with 45% orthophosphoric acid, on occlusal and proximal zones. The specimens were then washed and dried with water-air dental syringe. All the probes were inspected with an optical microscope and enamel thickness was digitally measured. Advantage Arrest (Elevate Oral Care, USA), which contains SDF, was applied on the previous demineralized zones. The penetration of the substance was visually inspected with the optical microscope and electronically measured., Results: It was observed an improvement in remineralizing the white spots on enamel surfaces, the optical microscope being able to detect both demineralization and the penetration of SDF through enamel., Conclusions: Based on our in vitro study, SDF (Advantage Arrest) was capable to induce/increase enamel remineralization, through SDF penetration.
