Ahıskalı, Eylem Ezgi (Balikesir Author), Bu çalışmada, özdüzenlemeli strateji geliştirme modeliyle yapılandırılan planlama ve yazma stratejileri öğretiminin tartışmacı anlatıma dayalı plan yapma ve kompozisyon yazma başarısına ve kalıcılığa etkisini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden öntestsontest kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılı güz döneminde bir devlet üniversitesinin Türkçe Öğretmenliği Programında öğrenim gören 48 birinci sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Deney grubuna on hafta boyunca, haftada iki ders saati olmak üzere, özdüzenlemeli strateji geliştirme modeliyle yapılandırılan tartışmacı anlatıma dayalı planlama yapma ve kompozisyon yazma stratejileri öğretimiyle gerçekleştirilen yazma etkinlikleri, kontrol grubuna Türk Dili I dersinin kazanımları doğrultusunda yazma etkinlikleri uygulanmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak tartışmacı anlatıma dayalı yapılan planlarla yazılan kompozisyonlar ile bu planları ve kompozisyonları değerlendirmek için dereceli puanlama anahtarları kullanılmıştır. Veriler istatistiksel hesaplamalarla çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonunda özdüzenlemeli strateji geliştirme modeliyle yapılandırılan tartışmacı anlatıma dayalı planlama ve yazma stratejileri öğretiminin öğretmen adaylarının planlama ve yazma başarılarını artırdığı ve kalıcı olduğu belirlenmiştir., This study aims to determine the effect of teaching planning and writing strategies structured with self-regulated strategy development model on planning and writing achievement and retention based on argumentative discourse. In the study, quasi-experimental design with pre-test-post-test control group was administered. The study group consisted of 48 first-year students studying in the Turkish Language Teaching Program in a state university in the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. On the experimental group writing activities through teaching planning and writing strategies based on argumentative discourse and structured with self-regulated strategy development model was administered for ten weeks two lessons each week. On the other hand, the control group participated in writing activities in line with the learning outcomes of TurkishLanguage I lesson. As for the data collection tools, plans and written compositions based on argumentative discourse, and grading scales to assess these plans and compositions were used. The data was analyzed by statistical calculations. In conclusion, it was determined that the teaching planning and writing strategies based on argumentative discourse and structured with selfregulated strategy development model increased planning and writing achievement of pre-service teachers and the teaching provided was permanent.

This research aims to determine distance education experiences of Turkish instrument educators’ related to instrument training during the COVID-19 pandemic. As with other practice lessons in education, instrument training also collides with its own unique problems during pandemic. Therefore, it is thought that the experiences of Turkish instrument educators regarding the process will create new discussions. The research was conducted by analyzing the findings obtained from semi-structured interviews with 14 participants with a phenomenological model. Considering the findings of the study, it can be seen that distance education conditions affect the instrument educators and the instrument training process both positively and negatively, and these effects bring some practices to the experience of instrument training permanently, possibly irreversible from now on. In the study, it was seen that an important source of the problems experienced by the instrument educators during the distance education process was related to technical facilities, such as connection speed and software. Kocakülah, Mustafa Sabri (Balikesir Author), Bu çalışmanın amacı, 2005 yılı Fen ve Teknoloji dersi programı ile 2013 yılı Fen Bilimleri dersi programının öğrenci rollerinde ortak olarak ifade edilen araştıran ve sorgulayan bir birey yetiştirmek için gerekli olan araştırma becerilerinin öğrencilere kazandırılma durumlarının incelenmesidir. Tarama modelinde yürütülen bu çalışmada 2005 ve 2013 programları ile öğrenim görmüş öğrencilerin araştırma becerilerinin ortaya konulup karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini Balıkesir ilinde öğrenim gören ve tabakalı amaçsal örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilmiş 1532 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma verileri Araştırma Becerileri Testi ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ile toplanmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda 2005 yılı Fen ve Teknoloji dersi öğretim programı ile öğrenim gören öğrencilerin araştırma becerilerinin 2013 yılı Fen Bilimleri dersi öğretim programı ile öğrenim gören öğrencilerden daha fazla geliştiği görülmüştür. Araştırma becerilerinin alt becerileri olarak belirlenen becerilerin de öğrencilere kazandırılma durumları incelenmiştir. Analiz sonuçları, öğrencilerin değişkenleri belirleme becerileri arasında anlamlı fark olmadığını ancak araştırılabilir soru belirleme, hipotez kurma, verileri kaydetme ve verileri yorumlama becerilerinde 2005 programı lehine anlamlı bir fark olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışma sonunda yeni Fen Bilimleri programı da araştırma becerilerini kazanım düzeyinde ele alışı açısından değerlendirilmiş ve programın uygulayıcısı öğretmenlere öğrencilerin araştırmayı soru sorup cevap alma olarak görmemesi için sürecin takip edilmesi gibi önerilerde bulunulmuştur., The aim of this study is to examine the inquiry skills of students who are required to raise their level of research skills as determined in the student roles of curricula of science courses prepared in 2005 and 2013. Inquiry skills of the students were determined and compared based on survey model. The sample of the study consists of 1532 students in the ninth grade of five high schools in Balıkesir province and selected by stratified purposeful sampling method. The research data were collected by using the Inquiry Skills test and semistructured interviews. As a result of the data analyses, it was found that the research skills of the students studying with the 2005 Science and Technology Curriculum improved much compared to the students studying with the 2013 Science Curriculum. The acquisition status of the sub-skills of inquiry skills were also examined separately. Analysis results show that except for the ability to determine the variables, significant differences were found in favour of the 2005 curriculum for the skills of determining research questions, making hypothesis, recording data and interpreting data. The new Science Curriculum was evaluated in terms of addressing inquiry skills at the acquisition level, and suggestions were made to the teachers as the implementer of the curriculum.

This study aims to reveal the trends in the related field by examining the researches evaluating the measurement invariance in education and psychology between 2008-2019. Accordingly, 99 articles published in three journals that were selected using the purposive sampling method among the journals indexed on Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)were analyzed within the scope of the study. As a result of the content analysis, in the studies investigating the measurement invariance, typical response tests were observed to be the most frequently employed tests, sample sizes often included 1501 or greater number of subjects, and data were mostly collected from students. The measurement invariance of the tests was mostly analyzed in terms of the gender variable. According to the results of the bibliometric analysis, on the other hand, only Multi-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis was mostly conducted on the Mplus software package. In the studies, the most cited article was "Cheung and Rensvold (2002)", the author was "Cheung, G. W.", and the journal was "Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal". According to the results of the analysis, studies, references, and keywords including factor analysis were among the most commonly used group, which denotes that factor analysis has a crucial role in invariance measurement analyses.

Today, the visible results of climate change cause environmental issues to be prioritized in all areas. Environmental acquisitions are included in the curriculum in compulsory education. According to Bloom's taxonomy, different levels of gains are necessary for learning skills at different levels. The new taxonomy examines information at the cognitive level in different categories, the information dimension and the cognitive level. The aim of this study is to analyze the environmental achievements that students encounter in science and biology lessons during 12 years of formal education and their analysis according to the renewed bloom taxonomy. As a result, it was determined that there were 39 gains at the cognitive level on the environment. When the results of the analysis are evaluated, it is remarkable for the subject such as environment that there is almost no gain in the application dimension., Günümüzde iklim değişikliğinin yarattığı görünür sonuçlar çevre konularının her alanda önceliklendirilmesine neden olmaktadır. Bloom’un taksonomisine göre farklı düzeylerde kazanımlar farklı düzeylerde öğrenme becerisi için gereklidir. Günümüz öğrenme kuramlarındaki gelişmeler Bloom Taksonomisini de güncellemeler gerektirmiştir. Yeni taksonomi bilişsel düzeydeki bilgiyi bilgi boyutu ve bilişsel düzey olmak üzere farklı kategorilerde incelemektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı fen bilimleri ve biyoloji derslerinde öğrencilerin karşılaştıkları çevre kazanımlarının yenilenmiş bloom taksonomisine göre analizini yapmaktır. Yapılan analiz sonucunda çevre konusunda bilişsel düzeyde fen bilimleri ve biyoloji dersinde toplam 39 kazanımın olduğu belirlenmiştir. Her bir sınıf için ayrı ayrı yapılan yenilenmiş bloom taksonomisine göre analiz sonuçları bütüncül olarak değerlendirildiğinde uygulama boyutunda yok denecek kadar az kazanımın olması çevre gibi bir konu için dikkat çekicidir. Yaratma basamağında kazanımların yer alması üst düzey bilişsel düşünme becerisi gerektiren etkinliklerin yapılabilirliği için önemlidir. Ancak anlama düzeyinde kazanımların yoğunlaşması sınavlarda öğrencilerin bilgi sorularında gösterdikleri başarıyı uygulama basamağındaki sorularda gösterememesinin bir sebebi olarak görülebilir.

Şahin, Güliz (Balikesir Author), The aim of the study is to determine the validity and reliability of the Critical Reading Scale, which was developed by Ünal (2006) for 5th grade students in order to determine the critical reading levels of children between the ages 8-10. “Critical Reading Scale”, is developed by Ünal (2006) and it can be used for determining critical reading level. The study group is determined with the simple random sampling method; it involves a total of 550 fourth grade students, 290 boys and 260 girls, in two different primary schools, administered by Balikesir provincial directorate of national education. “Critical Reading Scale” developed by Ünal (2006) is a five points likert scale made of a single factor and 22 items. It is specifically designed for children at the age of 11, at the 5th grade level. At the end of the research, it was determined that Cronbach’s Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the “Critical Reading Scale” is .906. MLR method is preferred for confirmatory factor analysis employed to present the validity proofs of the evaluation instrument. It is determined that the unidimensional structure of the scale is confirmed., Araştırmanın amacı, 8-10 yaş grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin eleştirel okuma düzeylerinin belirlenmesinde kullanılmak üzere, Ünal (2006) tarafından ortaokul 5. sınıf öğrencileri için geliştirilen “Eleştirel Okuma Ölçeği”nin geçerlik ve güvenirlik ölçümlerini belirlemektir. Çalışma grubunu basit seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenen Balıkesir İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğüne bağlı iki ilkokulda öğrenim gören 290’ı erkek, 260’ı kız olmak üzere toplam 550 dördüncü sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Ünal (2006) tarafından geliştirilen “Eleştirel Okuma Ölçeği” ilköğretim 5. Sınıf düzeyinde, 11 yaş grubu için düzenlenmiş, tek faktör ve 22 maddeden oluşan beşli likert türünde bir ölçektir. Eleştirel Okuma Ölçeği için gerçekleştirilen güvenirlik analizleri neticesinde hesaplanan Cronbach Alpha iç tutarlılık katsayısı .906 olarak bulunmuştur. Ölçme aracının geçerlik kanıtlarının ortaya konması için gerçekleştirilen doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sürecinde MLR yöntemi tercih edilmiş ve ölçeğin tek boyutlu yapısının doğrulandığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. The aim of this study is to analyze of finger positions of flute learners at Fine Arts High School while using for acquiring sound in the sense of cognitive and psychomotor skills. Sample group is composed of 42 flute learners at 11th and 12th classes at 12 Fine Arts High School chosen with cluster sampling method. "Practice Study for Finger Positions" and "Information Test for Finger Positions" which were developed by the researchers were used as data collection tool. Frequency (f) and percentage (%) values were used for the evaluation of finger positions of learners who form the sample group in obtaining 1st, 2nd and 3rd octave sounds in the sense of cognitive and psychomotor skills; Spearman Correlation was used in comparison of psychomotor and cognitive skill scores related to finger positions of flute learners in obtaining sound; Mann Whitney U test was used in comparison of grade of flute learners and status of loving/not loving their instrument and cognitive and psychomotor skill scores of their finger positions, Kruskal Wallis Test was used in comparison of period of flute training of learners and cognitive and psychomotor skill scores of their finger positions. Based on the findings of study, it was determined that great majority of flute learner who study at Fine Arts High School have problems in the sense of finger positions used for acquiring sound and develop wrong behaviours. These wrong behaviours are quite similar in the sense of cognitive and psychomotor behaviours., Bu araştırmanın amacı; Güzel Sanatlar Liseleri flüt öğrencilerinin flütten ses elde etmede kullandıkları parmak pozisyonlarının bilişsel ve devinişsel beceriler açısından incelenmesine yöneliktir. Araştırmanın örneklem grubu, kümeli örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilmiş 12 Güzel Sanatlar Lisesinin 11. ve 12. sınıflarında öğrenim görmekte olan 42 flüt öğrencisidir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “Parmak Pozisyonlarına Yönelik Uygulama Çalışması” ve “Parmak Pozisyonlarına Yönelik Bilgi Testi” kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin 1., 2. ve 3. oktav sesleri elde etmede kullandıkları parmak pozisyonlarının bilişsel ve devinişsel beceriler açılarından değerlendirilmesinde frekans ve yüzde değerlerinden, ses elde etmede kullanılan parmak pozisyonlarına ilişkin devinişsel ve bilişsel beceri puanlarının karşılaştırılmasında Spearman Korelasyondan, öğrencilerin okumakta oldukları sınıf ve çalgılarını sevme/sevmeme durumları ile bilişsel ve devinişsel beceri puanlarının karşılaştırılmasında Mann Whitney U testinden, öğrencilerin flüt eğitimi alma süreleri ile bilişsel ve devinişsel beceri puanlarının karşılaştırılmasında da Kruskal Wallis testinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda Güzel Sanatlar Liselerinde öğrenim görmekte olan flüt öğrencilerinin büyük çoğunluğunun ses elde etmede kullandıkları parmak pozisyonları açısından sıkıntı yaşadıkları ve yanlış davranışlar geliştirdikleri belirlenmiştir. Bu yanlış davranışlar bilişsel ve devinişsel beceriler açısından da büyük benzerlikler göstermektedir.

Alan eğitimi bilgisi (AEB), öğretmenlerin bir şeyi öğretme konusunda sahip oldukları bilgidir ve farklı alt bileşenleri bulunmaktadır. Bunlardan biri, bu araştırmanın da odak noktası olan öğretim programı bilgisidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, deneyimli kimya öğretmenlerinin öğretim programı bilgisini dokuzuncu sınıf kimya dersi öğretim programı bağlamında incelemektir. Araştırma durum çalışması modeline göre tasarlanmış ve katılımcılar farklı öğretim deneyimlerine sahip dört kimya öğretmenidir. Veriler; gözlem, görüşme ve ders planı ile toplanmış ve daha sonra içerik analizine göre analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonunda, katılımcıların dokuzuncu sınıf kimya dersi öğretim programının felsefesinin kısmen farkında oldukları söylenebilir. Bunların yarısı öğretim programının felsefesinin günlük yaşam ile kimya kavramları arasında bir ilişki kurmak olduğunu, geri kalanı ise kimyaya giriş olarak algıladığını ifade etmiştir. Ek olarak, katılımcıların fiziksel ve kimyasal değişimler (FKD) konusundaki kazanım ve açıklamaları belirlemeleri istendiğinde, sadece bir öğretmenin programda yer alan kazanımı yazdığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Diğer öğretmenlerden ikisi kazanımı programdan almak yerine kendileri yeni bir kazanım yazmışlardır. Son olarak, katılımcıların FKD’nin öğretiminde ders planına yazdıkları kazanım ve açıklamaları ne derece gerçekleştirdikleri incelendiğinde katılımcıların bu kazanım ve açıklamalar ışığında konunun öğretimini gerçekleştirdikleri söylenebilir., Pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) is a teachers’ knowledge about teaching something and has different sub-components. One of them is knowledge of the curriculum which is also the focus of this research. The purpose of this research is to examine the experienced chemistry teachers’ knowledge of curriculum in the context of ninth grade chemistry curriculum. The research was designed according to the case study model and participants were four experienced chemistry teachers with different teaching experiences. Data were collected through observation, interview, and lesson plans and then analyzed according to the content analysis. At the end of the research, it can be said that the participants were partially aware of the philosophy of the ninth-grade chemistry curriculum. Half of them expressed that the aim of the curriculum was establishing a relationship between daily life and chemistry concepts while the rest of them perceived the philosophy as an entrance to chemistry. Additionally, when the participants were asked to determine the acquisitions and explanations of physical and chemical changes (PCC) topic, only one teacher has written the acquisition placed in the chemistry curriculum of the ninth class. Two of the teachers have written an acquisition instead of taking the curriculum into consideration. At last, with the aim of deciding what extent the participants’ teaching of PCC represented the acquisitions which they wrote to the lesson plans, participants were observed. It can be conveniently said that the participants performed in the light of these acquisitions and objectives.

Ürek, Handan (Balikesir Author), In this study, it is aimed to investigate Turkish First Robotics Competition (FRC) participants’ perceptions towards the concept of FRC with the help of metaphors and to construct a novel mind map. The study is expected to contribute to FRC research and development studies by presenting local information from the point of Turkey. Also, the study will allow the researchers to compare the findings obtained from Turkey with FRC core values. For this reason, a qualitative study in the design of phenomenology was conducted with 282 Turkish FRC participants in fall, 2018. Data were collected with the help of a questionnaire consisting of two questions. The findings showed that participants mostly perceived FRC as family, school of life and addictive matter. Also, most of the participants mentioned robot and teamwork among their initial responses when they heard the word, FRC. As a result, the study indicated the excitement of Turkish participants towards FRC by relating their perceptions to the FRC core values and philosophy. So, it is thought that establishing cooperation with universities might be beneficial for future studies in Turkey., Bu çalışmada, First Robotik Yarışması (FRC) Türkiye katılımcılarının FRC kavramıyla ilgili algılarının metaforlar yardımıyla araştırılması ve zihinsel yapılarının özgün bir zihin haritası yardımıyla ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma ile Türkiye’den elde edilen verilerin literatüre kazandırılması ve FRC araştırma-geliştirme çalışmalarına katkıda bulunulması beklenmektedir. Ayrıca, çalışma sonucunda elde edilen bulguların FRC çekirdek değerleri ile karşılaştırılabilmesi mümkün olacaktır. Bu kapsamda, 282 FRC Türkiye katılımcısı ile 2018 güz döneminde nitel araştırma desenlerinden fenomenoloji deseninde bir araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın verileri, iki sorudan oluşan bir anket ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre katılımcıların çoğu FRC’yi aile, hayat okulu ve bağımlılık yapan bir madde şeklinde algılamaktadır. Ayrıca, FRC denildiğinde katılımcıların zihinlerinde beliren ilk kavramlar arasında, robot ve takım çalışması yer almaktadır. Sonuç olarak çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular, katılımcıların FRC’ye karşı ilgisini göstermekte olup ortaya çıkan algıların FRC çekirdek değerleri ve felsefesi ile ilişkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu kapsamda, üniversiteler ile yapılacak işbirliklerinin gelecekte ülkemizde yapılacak FRC çalışmaları kapsamında fayda sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Özcan, Taner (Balikesir Author), Teucrium L. is a well-known and cosmopolitan genus of the Lamiaceae family. In Turkey, the genus is represented by 36 species (48 taxa). Teucrium Sect. Teucrium that this study focuses on comprises around 30 species worldwide and is mainly distributed in countries of the Mediterranean Basin. With 11 species (14 taxa), it is the second-largest section of the genus Teucrium in Turkey. In this study, morphological and molecular findings were evaluated and the phylogeny and biogeographical distribution of Sect. Teucrium were analyzed. Also, five endemic taxa belonging to Sect. Teucrium and which play an informative role in the subsectional classification of the section were analyzed for the first time. A new species of the genus Teucrium from southwest Turkey was described as T. semrae Aksoy, Dirmenci & Özcan and analyzed using different approaches. The infrageneric position of T. semrae in sect. Teucrium and the phylogenetic structure of the section were determined according to morphological and micromorphological features and molecular nrITS and cpDNA data. The phylogenetic position of the new species was argued by comparing the closest members. Comparative figures and illustrations, distribution maps and an updated identification key for the Sect. Teucrium in Turkey are presented, and a new detailed classification is proposed in this study., Balikesir University 2012/8

Bu çalışmanın amacı, özengen çalgı eğitimi alan bireylerin, özengen çalgı eğitimine yönelik güdülenme durum ve düzeylerinin belirlenebilmesinde araç olarak kullanılabilecek bir güdülenme ölçeği geliştirmektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, Çanakkale ve Balıkesir illerindeki resmi ve özel yaygın eğitim kurumlarında özengen çalgı eğitimi almakta olan 280 katılımcıdan oluşmaktadır. Ölçek geliştirme aşamasında özengen çalgı eğitimine yönelik 47 güdülenme maddesi oluşturulmuştur. Geliştirilmeye çalışılan ölçme aracının geçerlik ve güvenirliğini belirlemek amacıyla madde analizi ve açımlayıcı faktör analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Madde analizinde madde-test korelasyon katsayısı düşük olan ve açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda birden fazla faktörde binişik yapıda olan maddeler ölçekten çıkarılmıştır. Yeniden yapılan açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonuçlarına göre, 25 maddeden oluşan ölçeğin 5 faktörlü bir yapıda olduğu ve faktörlerin toplam varyansın % 54.305’ini açıkladığı belirlenmiştir. Faktörler altına yüklenen maddeler ve kuramsal beklentiden yola çıkılarak ölçekteki faktörler; Mutluluk, isteksizlik, zorluk yaşama, sosyal çevreyle etkileşim ve ilgi olarak adlandırılmıştır. 5 faktör altında yer alan 25 maddelik ölçeğin tümü için Cronbach Alfa güvenirlik katsayısı 0.877 bulunmuştur. Özengen çalgı eğitimine yönelik güdülenme ölçeğinin psikometrik özellikleri dikkate alındığında, özengen çalgı eğitimi alan bireylerin bu eğitime yönelik güdülenmelerinin ölçülmesinde geçerli ve güvenilir bir şekilde kullanılabilecek bir ölçme aracının geliştirildiği düşünülmektedir., The aim of this study is to develop a motivation scale which can be used as a tool to determine motivation status and levels of individuals who take amateur instrument training. The study group of the study consists of 280 participants who have taken amateur instrument training in public and private non-formal education institutions in Canakkale and Balıkesir. During the scale development stage, 47 motivational items were created for the amateur instrument training. In order to determine the validity and reliability of the measurement tool, item analysis and exploratory factor analysis were used. In item analysis, items with low itemtest correlation coefficients and as a result of exploratory factor analysis, items with overlapping factors were removed from the scale. According to the results of the reconstructive exploratory factor analysis, it was determined that the scale consisting of 25 items had a 5-factor structure and the factors explained % 54.305 of the total variance. The items loaded under the factors and the factors in the scale based on theoretical expectations; Happiness, reluctance, difficulty, interaction with the social environment and interest was named. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was found to be 0.877 for the 25 item scale under 5 factors. Considering the psychometric properties of amateur instrument training motivation scale, it is considered that a valid and reliable measurement tool has been developed to measure the motivation of individuals who have taken amateur instrument training.

Kılıç, Turgut (Balikesir Author), The genus Sideritis (Lamiaceae) is represented by 45 species (54 taxa) in Anatolia with high endemism ratio (74%), and Turkey is one of the gene centers of the genus along with Spain. Acetone extract of the aerial parts of Sideritis lycia afforded eight known ent-kaurene diterpenoids, structures of which have been identified as linearol, isolinearol, isosidol, sidol, siderol, sideridiol, 7-epi-candicandiol and foliol through 1H NMR, 13 C NMR and mass spectroscopic analyses. Cytotoxic and antiviral activities of the acetone extract, linearol, sidol and isosidol were investigated together with insecticidal activity of species. The antiviral index of linearol, isosidol and acetone extract of S. lycia were determined as 2.31, 2.01 and 2.58, respectively, except sidol. 7-Epi-candicandiol was found to be the most active diterpene against a series of cancer cell lines with ED50 values; KB (13.3 mu g/mL), COL-2 (11.8 mu g/mL), LU1 (17.9 mu g/mL), LNCaP (14.9 mu g/mL) and A2780 (9.0 mu g/mL). Activity results of this study indicated that ent-kaurane diterpenes have potential to be considered as antiviral and cytotoxic lead compounds.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate fine arts high school students' motivation toward musical instrument education, musical instrument performance self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes as predictors of burnout. In this study,fine art s high school students' levels of, and the relationships among motivation toward musical instrument education, their musical instrument performance self-efficacy beliefs, attitudes, and burnout were investigated. Research Methods: This study was designed as a predictor relational survey study and conducted with a total of 401 fine arts high school students during the 2015-2016 academic year. Findings: The results revealed that students' burnout levels were low, their motivation level was high, their level of musical instrument performance self-efficacy beliefs was middle, and their attitude level was high. The results also showed a negative significant relationship between students' motivation toward instrument education, their musical instrument performance self-efficacy beliefs, attitudes, and burnout. The fine arts high school students' motivation toward instrument education, their musical instrument performance self-efficacy beliefs, and attitudes were found to be significant predictors for their burnout. Implications for Research and Practice: The researchers in this study recommend that further studies should be conducted to determine the predictive power of other affective variables on student burnout levels to provide new insights into the literature. Given that existing Turkish literature in the field of burnout in music education has mostly focused on music teachers and preservice music teachers, burnout among music education students among different institutions is an area that demands further investigation., Problem Durumu: Ülkemizde müzik eğitimi veren kurumlardan birisi de müzik öğretmenliği bölümleridir. Müzik öğretmenlerinin, müzik eğitiminin olumlu etkilerinden öğrencilerinin faydalanmasını sağlamada bir köprü oluşturacak olması nedeniyle oldukça önemli bir yere sahip olduğu söylenebilir. Diğer alan öğretmenlerin de olduğu gibi müzik öğretmenleri de meslek yaşamlarında farklı ekonomik ve sosyal yapılardan gelen öğrencilerle karşılaşmaktadırlar. Aynı sınıftaki öğrencilerden bazıları, müzik eğitimine özendirici ortamlarla okul dışında karşılaşabilirken, bazıları sadece müzik dersleri yoluyla müzik eğitimine özendirici ortamlarla karşılaşabilmektedir. Bu noktada müzik öğretmenleri, müzik eğitimine özendirici ortamlarla sadece okul ortamında karşılaşan öğrencileri müzik eğitimine çekmede önemli bir anahtar görevi görmektedir. Çalgı müzik öğretmeninin temel materyallerinden birisidir. Bu bağlamda çalgısında iyi yetişmiş müzik öğretmenleri, öğrencilerde itici bir güç oluşturarak, öğrencilerini müzikle ilgilenmeye teşvik edebileceği söylenebilir. Bu durum öğrencilerin müzik eğitiminden en üst düzeyde faydalanmasını sağlayabilir. Bu görüşler ışığında müzik öğretmenliği bölümlerinde çalgı eğitiminin oldukça önemli bir yere sahip olduğu söylenebilir. Ancak müzik öğretmenliği bölümlerine, geçmişlerinde bir çalgı eğitimi deneyimi olan ve olumsuz deneyimlerinden dolayı olumsuz duyuşsal özelliklere sahip olarak gelen öğrencilerin çalgı eğitiminde istenen başarıyı ve gelişmeyi gösteremedikleri görülmektedir. Öğrencilerin sahip olduğu duygusal dirençleri kırmak öğretmen için oldukça büyük sorun teşkil etmektedir. Bu nedenlerle müzik öğretmenliği bölümlerine gelen ve bir müzik geçmişi olan öğrencilerin, müzik öğretmenliği bölümlerine gelmeden önce eğitim aldıkları kurumlarda yaşadıkları negatif duyuşsal özelliklerin altında yatan nedenlerin belirlenmesi, söz edilen sorunların daha temel aşamadayken çözülmesine yönelik gerekli uygulamaların geliştirilmesine ve program değişikliklerine ışık tutabilir. Müzik öğretmenliği bölümlerine gelen öğrenci profilleri incelendiğinde, bu bölümlerdeki öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğunu güzel sanatlar liselerinden mezun olmuş öğrencilerin oluşturduğu görülmektedir. Söz edilen nedenlerle güzel sanatlar liselerindeki öğrencilerin çalgı eğitiminde karşılaştıkları duyuşsal sorunların belirlenmesi ve bu sorunların çözülmesine yönelik program ve uygulamalar geliştirilmesi, bu kurumların bir sonraki ayağı olan müzik öğretmenliği bölümlerine Demet GIRGIN Eurasian Journal of Educational Research 85 (2020) 93-108 107 öğrencilerin çalgı eğitimi ile ilgili yaşadıkları sorunların taşınmasını engelleyebilir ve söz edilen durum güzel sanatlar liselerinde ve müzik öğretmenliği bölümlerinde çalgı eğitiminde başarının ve niteliğin artmasına katkı sağlayabilir. Araştırmanın Yöntemi: Güzel sanatlar liselerindeki öğrencilerin çalgı eğitiminde motivasyonlarının, çalgı performansı özyeterlik inançlarının, tutumlarının ve tükenmişliklerinin arasındaki yordayıcı ilişkiyi betimlemeyi amaçlayan bu araştırma yordayıcı ilişkisel tarama modelindedir. Araştırma 2015-2016 eğitim-öğretim yılında 1., 2., 3. ve 4. sınıflarda eğitim gören 401 güzel sanatlar lisesi öğrencisiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencilerin tükenmişlikleri, motivasyonları, çalgı performansı özyeterlik inançları ve tutumları arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesinde korelasyon analizi; motivasyonlarının, çalgı performansı özyeterlik inançlarının ve tutumlarının, tükenmişliklerini ne derece yordadığının belirlenmesinde regresyon analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın Bulguları: Araştırmaya katılan güzel sanatlar lisesi öğrencilerinin “tükenmişlik” düzeyleri düşük (1,752±0,914), “motivasyon” düzeyleri yüksek (4,284±0,609); “çalgı performansı özyeterlik inancı” düzeyleri orta (3,221±0,766); “tutum” düzeyleri yüksektir (4,018±0,724). The aim of this study is to develop and apply a rubric to evaluate the solutions proposed for questions about electromagnetic induction belonging to university second year pre-service teachers. In this study which has pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design with control group, teaching of the topic of electromagnetic induction was applied to both groups with the same teaching method and a test consisting of four questions was applied before and after the teaching. 73 students in the experimental group were informed about the properties and usage of rubrics and asked to create a rubric. The effect of rubric on the success of students was examined by applying descriptive statistics and t-tests to the scores obtained from both tests. The validity and reliability of the scoring with rubric were analyzed by calculating the linear regression, t-test statistics, Pearson correlation, Intraclass correlation and Cronbach-alpha correlation coefficients. The results of the analyses show that the developed rubric was used consistently by the researcher and an independent coder and there was a high and significant (p=.000) relationship between the scores for all questions. In the inter-rater reliability analysis for each question, the lowest ICC coefficient was specified as .826. In light of the findings obtained from the study, it was concluded that the developed rubric helped to make consistent and stable ratings independent of the scorer, to determine the characteristics of the problem solutions and to increase the level of achievement of students. Another type of analytical rubric can be created and used for other topics of the area of Physics and the results can be compared with the findings of this study. © 2021, Ozgen Korkmaz. Araştırmanın amacı ilkokul öğrencilerinin ağaç kavramına ilişkin oluşturdukları metaforların tespit edilmesidir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılında TEMA Vakfı, Ağaç Kardeşliği Projesi’ne katılan Aydın, Samsun, Gaziantep, Malatya, Edirne, Konya, Osmaniye ve İstanbul illerinde 4. Sınıfta öğrenim görmekte olan kolay ulaşılabilir örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak belirlenen toplam 295 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden "fenomenoloji (olgu bilim)" kullanılarak yürütülen araştırmada, veri toplama aracı olarak öğrencilerin "Ağaç…….. benzer. Çünkü……." cümlesini tamamlayacakları bir form kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilere ait veriler içerik analizi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analiz sonucunda, ağaç kavramına ilişkin ortaokul öğrencilerinin 111 metafor ürettiği belirlenmiştir. Mateforlar anlamlarına göre sınıflandırılarak 9 kategoride toplanmıştır. İlk dört sırada yer alan kategoriler sırasıyla; Canlı olarak ağaç (% 25,76), Yaşamın kaynağı olarak ağaç (%24,06), Bitki olarak ağaç (%11,52) ve Yuva olarak ağaç (%11) dır. Araştırma sonucunda çevre ile ilgili kavramların öğretiminde kullanılan analojilere ve vurgu yapılan kavramlara özen gösterilmesinin önemi ortaya çıkmaktadır. Doğa denildiğinde ilk akla gelen yeşil renk ve bu rengin neredeyse simgesi olarak görülen ağaçlar öğrenciler için oksijen kaynağı, arkadaş gibi farklı anlamlar ifade etmektedir. Bu konuda farklı yaş grupları ile doğa algısı üzerine derinlemesine yapılacak araştırmalar, konunun anlaşılması için daha ayrıntılı bilgiler edinilmesine katkı sağlayacaktır., The aim of the research is to determine the metaphors of primary school students about the concept of tree. In the 2016-2017 academic year, TEMA Foundation participated in Tree Brotherhood Project. The study group is from the participants of this project. They were from Aydın, Samsun, Gaziantep, Malatya, Edirne, Konya, Osmaniye and İstanbul. In this research, in which phenomenology from the qualitative research design is used, the form prepared by researchers which are aimed to collect data, consists of filling the sentences like "tree is….. because…" A form was used to complete the sentence. The data of the students were analyzed by using content analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the primary school students about the concept of tree produced 111 metaphors. Metaphors were classified into 9 categories according to their meanings. The first four categories are; Tree as a living thing (25,76%), tree as the source of life (24,06%), tree as a plant (11,52%) and tree as home (11%). As a result of the research, it is important to pay attention to the analogies used in the teaching of environmental concepts and the concepts that are emphasized. When someone thinks about nature, the first thing that comes to mind is green color and trees, which are almost a symbol of the concept of nature. But all these concepts have different meanings for students. In-depth research on this topic will contribute to more detailed information to understand the subject.

Alatlı, Betül Karakoç (Balikesir Author), This study aimed to examine primary school teachers’ attitudes towards and knowledge levels about dyslexia. The universe of the study, which used a review model, consisted of primary school teachers working in the districts of Tokat city including the central county in the 2018-2019 academic year. The samples of the study, on the other hand, consisted of 345 primary school teachers selected using the simple random sampling method. The study data wascollected with the Dyslexia Attitude Questionnaire developed by Gwernan-Jones and Burden (2009). The questionnaire included18 five-point Likert type items for attitudes towards dyslexia, two multiple-choice items, and eight true/false-type items for measuring the level of knowledge about dyslexia. The distribution of the responses of the primary school teachers to each item was analyzed using frequency and percentage values. At the same time, the chi-square goodness of fit coefficient was employed to determine whether the distribution of the responses differed significantly. SPSS 20 statistical software package was used for statistical analysis of the data. According to the results of the analysis, there was a significant difference in the distribution of responses to the items. Findings relating to the responses of the teachers to the Likert-type attitude items revealed that the responses showed similarity. According to the answers given to multiple-choice items, teachers were found to respond that there was a difficulty regarding reversing letters and/or numbers and learning the order of syllables or numbers. The primary school teachers were observed to define dyslexia as a difficulty at both text and word levels. On the other hand, the examination of the responses given to the true/false type items indicated that the teachers gave similar answers and that the difference between responses was meaningful for each item. However, we concluded that teachers' attitudes towards dyslexia were generally positive and that they were knowledgeable about it., Bu araştırma ile sınıf öğretmenlerinin, disleksiye yönelik tutum ve bilgi düzeylerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Tarama modelinde olan bu araştırmanın çalışma evreni 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılı,Tokat il merkezi ve ilçelerinde görev yapan sınıf öğretmenlerinden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma örneklemi isebasit seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilmiş 345 sınıf öğretmeninden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma verileriGwernan-Jones ve Burden (2009) tarafından geliştirilen Disleksi Tutum Anketi ile toplanmıştır. Ankette beşlilikert tipi disleksiye ilişkin 18 tutum maddesi, çoktan seçmeli iki madde ve disleksiye ilişkin bilgi düzeyinde sekiz doğru/yanlış türü madde bulunmaktadır. Sınıf öğretmenlerinin her bir maddeye verdiği yanıtların dağılımına frekans ve yüzde değerleri ile birlikte yanıtların dağılımının manidar bir şekilde farklılık gösteri pgöstermediğini tespit etmek amacıyla ki-kare uyum katsayısı kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarına göre maddelere verilen yanıtların dağılımı manidar bir şekilde farklılaşmaktadır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre öğretmenlerin likert tipi tutum maddelerine verdikleri yanıtlar incelendiğinde yanıtlarının benzerlik gösterdiği görülmektedir. Çoktan seçmeli maddelere verilen yanıtlara göre ise öğretmenler rakamların ve/veya harflerin tersine çevrilmesiyle birlikte sayıların veya hecelerin sırasını öğrenmek ile ilgili bir zorluk olduğu yanıtını vermiştir. Sınıf öğretmenlerine göre disleksi hem metin hem de kelime düzeyinde bir zorluk olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Doğru/yanlış türü maddelere verilen yanıtlar incelendiğinde ise öğretmenlerin benzer yanıtlar verdiği, genellikle disleksinin tanımlanması ve disleksili bireylerin özellikleri konusunda eğitime ihtiyaç duydukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Örneğin, disleksinin tedavi edilemeyen bir öğrenme güçlüğü olmasına karşın sınıf öğretmenleri tedavi edilebileceği yönünde görüş bildirmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra araştırmada öğretmenlerin dislektik bireylerin üstün yönlerinin olduğu yönünde görüş bildirdikleri soncuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin genellikle disleksiye ilişkin tutumlarının ise olumlu yönde olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Saçkes, Mesut (Balikesir Author), The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the Primrose Balanced Learning Curriculum on young children's science performances. The sample of this study included 158 children attending two private preschools. The study utilized a single group pre-post-test design. The children were tested before and immediately after the implementation of the Primrose Balanced Learning Curriculum to assess their science performances. Children's interest in learning science was assessed before the implementation of the curriculum. The results demonstrated that the observed change in children's science scores from pre to post assessment was substantial, corresponding to about a medium effect size. Although both sexes made progress in their science performance, the girls made greater gains. Boys and girls did not differ in their interest in learning science, but prekindergartners regardless of their sex were more likely to demonstrate higher interest in learning science than their younger peers. The preliminary findings of this curriculum development effort suggest that the systematic instructional framework based on a balanced learning view has potential to promote young children's learning of science.

Işıtan, Sonnur (Balikesir Author), Bu çalışmanın amacı ülkemizde erken çocukluk dönemine (3-8 yaş) yönelik göç ve mültecilik konulu resimli kitapları tespit etmek ve bu kitapların içerik ve resimleme özelliklerini incelemektir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunu, ölçüt örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenmiş 3-8 yaşa hitap eden göç ve mültecilik konusunu işleyen 20 resimli öykü kitabı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada kitapların niteliklerini belirlemek için Deniz ve Gönen (2020) tarafından geliştirilen “Resimli Öykü Kitaplarını Değerlendirme Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Kitapların içerik analizleri, Temur (2019) tarafından geliştirilen “Kitap Analiz Formu” ile incelenmiştir. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda kitapların çoğunluğunda; resimlemelerde canlı renklerin kullanıldığı, doğrudan göç ve mültecilik konusunun ele alındığı ve kitaplarda çoğunlukla insan karakterler olduğu saptanmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda sınıf ortamında farklı kültürler ve göç ve mültecilik temasına yönelik nitelikli kitapların bulundurulması gerektiği, farkındalık sağlamak amacıyla bu tür kitaplardan faydalanarak okuma uygulamalarına yönelik araştırmalar yapılması önerilmiştir., The aim of this study is to determine the children’s picture books about immigration and refugee for early childhood (3-8 years old) in our country and to examine the content and illustration features of these books. Qualitative research method was used in the study. The sample of the research consists of 20 picture story books that deal with the subject of immigration and refugee. Children’s Picture books determined by the criterion sampling method. In the research, the “Picture Story Books Evaluation Scale” developed by Deniz and Gönen (2020) was used to determine the qualifications or properties of the books. The content analysis of the books were examined with “Book Analysis Form” developed by Temur (2019). As a result of the study, in the majority of the books; It has been determined that vivid colors are used in the illustrations, the subject of direct immigration and refugee, and there are mostly human characters in the books. As a result of the study, it has been suggested that there should be qualified books on different cultures, immigration and refugee themes in the classroom environment, and researches should be conducted on reading practices by making use of such books to raise awareness.

The present study aims to find out the agreement rates of students on non-scientific ideas concerning the concept of magnet with a cross sectional survey. A total of 436 students studying in the final years of elementary (n=113), middle (n=110), high school (n=105) and university (n=108) participated in the study. Data were collected with the help of a concept test. Quantitative methods were utilized in data analyses. According to the results, students were found to agree with non-scientific ideas in different percentages in each educational level. Most of those non-scientific ideas were prevalent misconceptions in the literature. The least percentages of agreements were detected among university students. Besides, five different mental models were presented to explain the cognitive structures of the students related to their agreements. Several recommendations were provided to consider in future studies at the end of the study.

Drawing on conceptual metaphor theory, I investigated the school transition experience of an English as a foreign language (EFL) learner. In this narrative case study, the participant’s emotion labor was followed throughout his first semester at a high school in Turkey. Exploring narrative journals, conceptual metaphors, and interviews, I examined his dynamic emotional states. The findings revealed that school transition may entail inhibiting emotion labor for high school freshman EFL learners. Moreover, it was also shown that these emotions may force adolescent learners to reconceptualize foreign language learning with a negative perspective and develop surviving learner’s strategies that may support them in terms of getting satisfactory grades in a summative assessment culture but may jeopardize language learning in the long run.

Kanatlar, Kuzey Makedonya’da Pirlepe’ye bağlı bir Türk köyüdür. Köyün nüfusu yaklaşık olarak 1700’dür ve 500 hane olarak ifade edilmektedir. Köyde Bektaşi tarikatı mensupları hâkimdir. Kanatlar’da köyün kurucusu olduğuna inanılan Dikmen Baba yatırı, aynı zamanda tekke vazifesi görmektedir. Bu nedenle köyde Dikmen Baba hakkında çeşitli menkıbeler anlatılmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra gerek Kanatlar’da gerekse civar yörede yatırı bulunan Kurt Dede Koca, Eyat Baba, Ali Baba ve Hasan Baba gibi veliler hakkında da menkıbeler anlatılmaktadır. Bu yazıda ele alınan evliya menkıbeleri, Kanatlar köyünde yaygın olarak anlatılan ve yalnızca yatırı olan veliler etrafındaki menkıbelerdir. Söz konusu menkıbeler, 2015 ve 2019 yıllarında Kanatlar’a gerçekleştirilen dört ayrı saha araştırmasından elde edilmiştir. Yazıda önce Kanatlar köyü ve civarında yatırı bulunan bu veliler hakkındaki menkıbeler verilmiştir. Sonra bu menkıbeler, velilerin “kuruculuk” ve “koruyuculuk” vazifeleri ile motifleri açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Değerlendirmede “karşılaştırmalı metot” ve “işlevsel yöntem” esas alınmıştır. Sonuç olarak gerek günlük hayatta gerekse dini törenler dâhilinde anlatılan bu menkıbelerin, Kanatlar’daki Bektaşi geleneği çerçevesindeki inanış ve uygulamalarla bütünleşmiş olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Menkıbeler ve menkıbeler etrafındaki inanış ve uygulamalar, menkıbelerde hayatları anlatılan velilerin Balkan coğrafyasındaki Türk varlığının koruyucusu olduklarını da ortaya çıkarmıştır. Genel olarak Türk menkıbe geleneği içerisindeki yeri düşünüldüğünde Kanatlar’da anlatılan menkıbelerin Türk kültürünün ve Türk varlığının Balkan coğrafyasındaki yerini ve izlerini göstermesi açısından önemli olduğu vurgulanmıştır., Kanatlar is a Turkish village connected to Prilep in Northern Macedonia. The population of the village is approximately 1700 and it is expressed as 500 households. Bektashi belief is dominant in the village. Dikmen Baba tomb, believed to be the founder of the village in Kanatlar, also serves as a dervish lodge. For this reason, various legends about Dikmen Baba are described in the village. In addition, legends are told about saints such as Kurt Dede Koca, Eyat Baba, Ali Baba and Hasan Baba, who have tombs both in Kanatlar and in the surrounding area. The legends discussed in this article are about the saints who are widely told in Kanatlar village and only who have tombs. These legends are obtained from four different field surveys conducted in Kanatlar in 2015 and 2019. In the article, legends about these saints, who have tombs in Kanatlar village and its surroundings, are given first. Later, these legends were evaluated in terms of “founding” and “protection” duties of saints and motifs of legends. “Comparative method” and “functional method” were used in the evaluation. As a result, it has been determined that these legends, which are told both in daily life and within religious ceremonies, are integrated with beliefs and practices within the framework of the Bektashi tradition in Kanatlar. The legends and the beliefs and practices around them revealed that saints, whose lives were told in the legends, were the protectors of Turkish presence in the Balkan geography. Considering its place in the Turkish legend tradition in general, it was emphasized that the legends told in Kanatlar are important in terms of showing the place and traces of Turkish culture and presence in the Balkan geography.

Şenel, Selma (Balikesir Author), Universities have made a compulsory shift to distance education due to the Covid-19 pandemic. All of the higher education instutitions in Turkey have completed 2019-2020 Spring semester using online tools. However, most of these institutions were not fully-prepared to have all of their courses online. Technical inadequencies, lack of qualified online tools, inexperience of instructors and students in distance education have emerged as major issues that instutitions have to face. In addition to all, a new question arised; which approaches will be used for assessment. This study aimed to seek the common assessment approaches used through pandemic, how students perceived the quality of the assessment and the pros and cons of using these practices. Additionally, we examined whether participants' perceptions about quality of the assessment differ according to interaction with faculty members and use of online tests. Researchers employed survey design to reply four research questions and used a three-part instrument to collect qualitative and quantitative data. 486 students from 61 universities voluntarily participated in the study. Results indicated assignments are the mostly used tools and students are generally satisfied about the quality of the assessment practices. Another result is that students who interact with faculty members are more satisfied with the quality of the assessment practices. This emphasizes the importance of formative assessment and feedback in remote assessment. Further, students who took online tests are more satisfied with the quality of assessment. Suggestions were made for future research.

Sarıoğlan, Ayberk Bostan (Balikesir Author), Beslenme kavramı hayatımızın her alanında yer almakta ve nasıl beslenmemiz gerektiği ile ilgili tartışmalar her geçen gün daha fazla karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Beslenme eğitiminin önemi göz önünde bulundurulduğunda ortaokul fen bilimleri dersi doğru ve düzenli beslenme ile ilgili öğretimin yapılabileceği bir öğretim kademesi olarak nitelendirilmektedir. Bu nedenle, fen bilimleri alanındaki öğretmenlerin ve öğretmen adaylarının beslenme kavramı ile ilgili fikirlerinin önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Yapılan bu araştırmada fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının öğretim öncesi ve sonrası beslenme kavramı ile ilgili fikirlerinin kelime ilişkilendirme testi kullanılarak belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma grubu; Marmara Bölgesi sınırları içerisinde yer alan bir devlet üniversitesi bünyesindeki eğitim fakültesinde öğrenim görmekte olan 18 fen bilgisi öğretmen adayından oluşmaktadır. Araştırma 2020-2021 eğitimöğretim yılı bahar dönemi sürecinde uzaktan eğitim ile yürütülmüştür. Veri toplama aracı olarak beslenme kavramı ile ilgili hazırlanan kelime ilişkilendirme testi öğretim öncesi ve öğretim sonrası kullanılmıştır. Öğretmen adaylarına dört hafta süresince beslenme kavramı ile ilgili öğretim verilmiştir. Veri analizinde öğretmen adaylarının verdikleri cevaplar belirli bazı frekans aralıklarında toplanarak kavram ağları oluşturulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlarda, öğretim sonrası daha yüksek aralıklarda kavram ağları oluşturulduğu belirlenmiştir., The concept of nutrition takes place in every aspect of our lives and discussions about how we should eat appear more and more every day. Considering the importance of nutrition education, secondary school science course is described as an education level where proper and regular nutrition can be taught. For this reason, it is thought that the ideas of teachers and teacher candidates in the field of science about the concept of nutrition are important. In this study, it was aimed to determine the ideas of science teacher candidates about the concept of nutrition before and after teaching by using the word association test. The study group; it consists of 18 science teacher candidates studying at the faculty of education within a state university located within the borders of the Marmara Region. The study was carried out with distance education during the spring semester of the 2020-2021 academic year. As a data collection tool, the word association test prepared for the concept of nutrition was used before and after teaching. Teacher candidates were taught about the concept of nutrition for four weeks. In the data analysis, the answers given by the teacher candidates were collected in certain frequency ranges and concept networks were formed. In the results obtained, it was determined that concept networks were formed at higher intervals after teaching.

Tezci, Erdoğan (Balikesir Author), The investigation of epistemological beliefs has become important in both pre-service and in-service education of teachers. Different scales have been developed to determine teachers' epistemological beliefs. The same scale yields different results in different cultures especially due to the cultural aspects of education. Therefore, testing the scales in different cultures contributes to their use. Within this framework, the scale developed by Schommer and adapted to Turkish culture by Deryakulu and Büyüköztürk was adapted to Kosovo culture. In the study, whether the Albanian, Bosnian and Turkish versions of the scale support the same factor structure was tested by employing the quantitative research method. First, the Epistemological Belief Scale was translated into Albanian and Bosnian and expert opinion was received. The scale was applied to 200 teachers who serve in schools where education languages are Albanian, Bosnian and Turkish. The scale comprised 35 items and 3 factors. Linguistic equivalence was prioritized, as the study was carried out in Kosovo. The Confirmatory Factor Analysis was employed to confirm the suitability of the three-factor structure of the scale. The analyses were carried out separately for each language and revealed acceptable fit indices. Reliability analysis produced satisfactory results. © 2021 Eurasian Society of Educational Research. Collectively, the findings of a growing body of literature suggest that introducing science in developmentally appropriate ways may support young children’s learning of science concepts and scientific thinking skills. The increasing number of edited volumes and special issues, including this one, devoted to the topic of early childhood science teaching and learning indicates that early science education, as a field of study, will continue to attract researchers from early childhood and science education as well as educational and cognitive psychology. © 2021 Journal of Childhood, Education & Society.

Purpose: The present study aimed to probe pre-service EFL teachers’ reasons for choosing teaching as a field of study and future career in the under-researched context of Turkey. The variance in their career motivations in terms of grade level was also examined in the study. Besides, the study aimed to explore whether any of the factors influencing their career motivations predict their academic achievement. Design/Methodology/Approach: The Factors Influencing Teaching Choice Scale (Watt & Richardson, 2006) was administered to 155 pre-service EFL teachers enrolled in the English language teaching (ELT) department of a state university in Turkey. The emergent data were first descriptively analyzed to find out the career motivations of the participants. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was also performed to explore whether grade level significantly affects pre-service EFL teachers’ career motivations. Lastly, a standard multiple regression analysis was used to investigate whether any causal relationships exist between the participants’ career motivations and their achievement as represented by their GPA. Findings: The results of descriptive statistics demonstrated that the participants had moderately high level of career motivations. Grade level did not have any significant impact on their career motivations. The findings of the multiple regression analysis demonstrated that, of the factors affecting teaching choice, only time for family, desire to work with children, intrinsic career values, and desire to make social contribution emerged as the predictors of GPA, explaining 47% of the variance in the pre-service EFL teachers’ academic achievement. Conclusion: In the process of teacher education, it is vital to acknowledge and incorporate the multiple motives of career choice that EFL student teachers hold. Organizing teacher education programs drawing on multiple motives might contribute significantly to completion of teacher education and teacher retention in future profession., Çalışmanın amacı: Bu çalışmanın amacı, İngilizce öğretmeni adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleğini seçme nedenlerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmada İngilizce öğretmen adaylarının üniversitedeki sınıf düzeylerinin kariyer motivasyonlarında etkili olup olmadığı da incelenmektedir. Ek olarak, bu çalışma kariyer motivasyonlarının akademik başarı üzerindeki etkisini ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Materyal ve Yöntem: Bir devlet üniversitesinin İngilizce Öğretmenliği programında öğrenim görmekte olan 155 İngilizce öğretmeni adayına demografik sorulardan ve Öğretmenlik Mesleğini Seçmeyi Etkileyen Faktörler (FIT-Choice) Ölçeğinden (Watt ve Richardson, 2006) oluşan bir anket uygulanmıştır. Katılımcıların kariyer motivasyonlarını ortaya çıkarmak için anketten elde edilen veriler ilk olarak betimsel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Sınıf düzeyinin kariyer motivasyonu üzerinde etkisi olup olmadığını belirlemek için çoklu varyans analizi (MANOVA) yapılmıştır. Son olarak, öğretmen adaylarının kariyer motivasyonlarının akademik başarıları üzerindeki etkisini ortaya koymak amacıyla standart çoklu regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Betimsel analiz sonuçları, katılımcıların orta derecede yüksek kariyer motivasyonuna sahip olduklarını göstermiştir. Sınıf düzeyinin kariyer motivasyonları üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi görülmemiştir. Çoklu regresyon analizi sonuçları ise öğretmenlik mesleğini seçmede etkili olan faktörlerden yalnızca aileye ayrılan zaman, çocuklar ile çalışma arzusu, içsel kariyer değerleri ve sosyal katkıda bulunma arzusu faktörlerinin İngilizce öğretmen adaylarının akademik başarılarındaki varyansın %47’sini açıklayarak akademik başarının yordayıcıları olduğunu göstermiştir. Sonuç: İngilizce öğretmeni adaylarının bu mesleği seçmelerinde çok sayıda birbirinden farklı güdünün etkili olduğu görülmektedir. Öğretmen yetiştirme programlarının bu durumun göz önünde bulundurularak düzenlenmesi, öğretmen adaylarının programı tamamlayabilmelerine ve ileride de uzun süre bu meslekte kalmalarına önemli ölçüde katkı sağlayacaktır.

Başöz, Tutku (Balikesir Author), This study adds new empirical evidence on how commonly the Directed Motivational Current (DMC) phenomenon is recognized and experienced among tertiary level L2 learners. This study also investigated DMC manifestations across such demographic factors as gender and domain of study. To this end, in this quantitative study, the Turkish version of the DMC Disposition Scale (Muir, 2016), validated by the researchers through a confirmatory factor analysis and reliability checks, was administered to 1083 first-year EFL students pursuing a bachelor's degree at twelve different faculties of a state university in Turkey. The data were analyzed through chi-square analyses, t-tests, and analyses of variance. Of all participants, 20.8% (n = 224) reported having experienced DMCs either once or on multiple occasions. The responses of the DMC group corroborate previous assertions that DMC is a unique motivational phenomenon experienced by a minority of students rather than being a widely experienced phenomenon. However, when the nature of the context is considered, the number of true-DMCs is promising. Gender and domain of study were not found to affect the propensity to experience DMCs among tertiary level L2 learners. Filipin takımadalarının orta kesimlerinde yer alan ada dünyanın en kalabalık nüfuslu 40. adasıdır. Hem seyrek nüfuslu hem de volkanik kökenli bir ada olup, kıyılarında çok sayıda mangrov ormanı, atol ada ve mercan resifi yer almaktadır. Samar Adası’nın batısında Visayan Denizi, doğusunda Filipinler Denizi ve güneyinde de Leyte Körfezi yer almaktadır. Bu araştırmada Samar Adası’nın coğrafi konumu, doğal ve beşeri özellikleri açıklandığı gibi turizm çekicilikleri ve doğa koruma alanları da kısaca ele alınmıştır. Located in the middle of the Philippine archipela, the island is the 40th most populous city in the world. It is an island of both sparsely populated and volcanic origin, and there are numerous mangrove forests, atoll islands and coral reefs on its shores. To the west of Samar island is the Visayan sea, the Philippines sea to the east and the Gulf of Leyte to the south. In this study, the geographical location, natural and human characteristics of the island of Samar are explained, as well as tourism attractiveness and nature conservation areas are discussed briefly. In the study, both the geographical characteristics of the island and its natural and historical-cultural attractiveness were examined and the island's tourism potential was tried to be painted. In the conclusion of the study, the most important tourism advantages of the island of Samar were examined.

Özcan, Taner (Balikesir Author), In this study, a member of sect. Teucrium, hitherto undescribed as a new species, was analyzed based on morphological and micromorphological features and molecular findings. The closest species of the new species were defined according to leaf morphology via morphological characters. Leaf, stem, and nutlet trichome types were obtained and compared with resembling species. Moreover, two different DNA region sequences were used to evaluate its proper phylogenetic position in the section. The new species was described as Teucrium turcicum Cecen & Ozcan based on the results of using different approaches. According to our observations, flower color, leaf structure, and shape were the main distinctive morphological characters, leaf and nutlet trichomes were separative and informative, and nrITS DNA data had more informative characters than chloroplast DNA region data (trnL-F and rpl32) to determine phylogenetic relationship of the new species and its close relatives in sect. Teucrium., Balikesir University 2012/08

Öztürk, Gülcan (Balikesir Author), Evaluating the social and educational effects of the coronavirus epidemic, which is declared as pandemic outbreak, has been an important issue not only in the context of our country but also in the World. In this process, where social life has been changing rapidly, analysing the problems, opportunities and readiness of the students who have not been taught face-to-face has also been a vital issue in terms of taking some precautions for the pandemic outbreak in the future. In this regard, the aim of the study is to determine the online learning readiness and e-learning environments motivation levels of the education faculty students whose face-to-face education have been interrupted in the pandemic outbreak and therefore, whose education has been transformed from face-to face to distance education. Besides, this study examines the relationship between the online learning readiness and e-learning environments motivation levels of the students. The exploratory correlational research model and the convenience sampling method is used in the study. The sample of the study consists of 221 students from an education faculty in the west of Turkey in the spring semester of 2019-2020 academic year. In the study, the information form composed by the researchers, the Online Learning Readiness Scale, and the E-Learning Environments Motivation Questionnaire are used to collect the data. During the study, an application for the approval of the ethics committee was made to Balıkesir University and the ethics committee permission document dated 24.12.2020 and numbered E-19928322-302.08.01-1681 that there was no contradiction to research ethics was approved. An online form is generated for the scales, and the data are collected by transmitting the scales to the participants. The t-test for the independent samples is performed to determine whether the online learning readiness scores and e-learning environments motivation scores of the students differ according to their gender, having a computer, having internet access, participating in an online and an offline course by using the statistical analysis package program. The one-way analysis of variance for the independent samples is carried out to determine whether they differ according to grade level, computer usage time, internet usage time, and time spent in the distance education. The correlation coefficient is calculated to determine whether the online learning readiness scores and e-learning environments motivation scores of the students are related. The result of the research indicates that the online learning readiness scores of the students are high, their e-learning environments motivation scores are not very low and the online learning readiness scores is positively correlated with the e-learning environments motivation scores., Pandemi olarak ilan edilen korona virüs salgınının sosyal ve eğitimsel etkilerinin değerlendirilmesi sadece ülkemiz bağlamında değil Dünya bağlamında da önemli bir konu olmuştur. Bu doğrultuda çalışmanın amacı, pandemi sürecinde yüz yüze eğitimleri kesintiye uğrayan ve uzaktan eğitime geçiş yapan eğitim fakültesi öğrencilerinin çevrimiçi öğrenme hazır bulunuşluk ve e-öğrenme ortamlarına yönelik motivasyon düzeylerini belirlemek ve bunlar arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Çalışmada, keşfedici korelasyonel araştırma modeli ve uygun örnekleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Örneklem, 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar yarıyılında Türkiye’nin batısında bulunan bir eğitim fakültesinde öğrenim gören 221 öğrenciden oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanması için araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan bilgi formu, Çevrimiçi Öğrenme Hazır Bulunuşluluk Ölçeği ve E-Öğrenme Ortamlarına Yönelik Motivasyon Anketi kullanılmıştır. Çalışma esnasında etik kurul onayı için Balıkesir Üniversitesi’ne başvurulmuş ve araştırma etiğine aykırı bir durum olmadığı 24.12.2020 tarih ve E-19928322-302.08.01-1681 sayılı etik kurul izin belgesi ile onaylanmıştır. Kullanılan ölçekler için online form oluşturulmuş ve katılımcılara iletilerek veriler toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin çevrimiçi öğrenme hazır bulunuşluk ve e-öğrenme ortamlarına yönelik motivasyon puanlarının, cinsiyet, bilgisayara sahip olma, internet erişimine sahip olma, çevrimiçi ve çevrimdışı derse katılma durumu değişkenlerine göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığını belirlemek için istatistiksel analiz paket programı kullanılarak ilişkisiz örneklemler için t-testi kullanılmıştır. Puanların sınıf düzeyi, bilgisayar kullanma süresi, internet kullanma süresi ve uzaktan eğitim sisteminde geçirilen süre değişkenlerine göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığını belirlemek için ilişkisiz örneklemler için tek yönlü varyans analizi yapılmıştır. Öğrencilerin çevrimiçi öğrenme hazır bulunuşluk ve e-öğrenme ortamlarına yönelik motivasyon puanlarının ilişkili olup olmadığını belirlemek için korelasyon katsayısı hesaplanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları, katılımcıların çevrimiçi öğrenme hazır bulunuşluk puanlarının yüksek düzeyde olduğunu; e-öğrenme ortamlarına yönelik motivasyon puanlarının çok düşük düzeyde olmadığını ve çevrimiçi öğrenme hazır bulunuşluklarının eöğrenme ortamlarına yönelik motivasyonlarıyla pozitif yönlü orta düzeyde ilişkili olduğunu göstermiştir.

Bu araştırmanın amacı özel ve resmi okullarda görev yapan öğretmenlerin tükenmişlik düzeyleri ve sınıf yönetim becerileri arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemektir. Araştırmada ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini özel ve resmi okullarda görev yapan toplam 321 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada, veri toplama aracı olarak “Maslach Tükenmişlik Envanteri” ve “Sınıf Yönetimi Becerisini Değerlendirme Ölçeği”, kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistik yöntemlerinden frekans, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma, t-testi, Tek faktörlü Varyans Analizi (ANOVA) ve Pearson Moments çift yönlü korelâsyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada özel okullarda görev yapan öğretmenlerin tükenmişlik düzeylerinin orta ve sınıf yönetim becerilerinin ise yüksek düzeyde olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada resmi okullarda görev yapan öğretmenlerin tükenmişlik düzeyleri ve sınıf yönetim becerilerinin yüksek düzeyde olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada özel okullarda görev yapan öğretmenlerin tükenmişlik düzeyleri cinsiyete göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediği; mesleki kıdeme göre ise anlamlı bir farklılık gösterdiği; sınıf yönetimi becerilerinin ise cinsiyet ve mesleki kıdem değişkenine göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada ayrıca hem özel hem de resmi okullarda görev yapan öğretmenlerin tükenmişlik düzeyleri ve sınıf yönetim becerileri arasında bir ilişki olmadığı sonucuna da ulaşılmıştır., The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between burnout levels and classroom management skills of teachers working in private and public schools. In the research, relational screening model was used. The sample of the research consists of 321 teachers working in private and public schools. In the research, "Maslach Burnout Inventory" and "Classroom Management Skill Evaluation Scale" were used as data collection tools. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-test, One-factor Variance Analysis (ANOVA) and Pearson Moments bidirectional correlation analysis were used in the analysis of data. In the research, it was concluded that the burnout levels of teachers working in private schools are medium and their classroom management skills are high. In the research, it was concluded that the burnout levels and classroom management skills of teachers working in public schools are high. The burnout levels of teachers working in private schools do not differ significantly by gender. In terms of Professional seniority, a significant diffecerence was observed. The study suggested that the classroom management skills of teachers working in private schools do not differ significantly according to gender and professional seniority. The study also revealed that the burnout levels and classroom management skills of teachers working in public schools did not differ significantly according to gender and professional seniority variable. The study also concluded that there is no relationship between burnout levels and classroom management skills of teachers working in both public and private schools.

As language teachers move across countries with the rise of professional transnationalism, the need for investigating language teacher socialization in new academic cultures has also emerged. Accordingly, this paper explores two comparative cases: an EFL teacher with prior experience as a language learner and teacher in the USA, and an Arabic-as-a-foreign-language teacher with similar experience in Egypt. The main objective is to shed further light on the transnational language teachers' identity work and to better understand their socialization trajectories in which tensions related to conflicting academic teaching cultures occur. In this study, narrative frames and interviews were utilized to collect short stories, which were analyzed by the short story analytical approach (Barkhuizen, 2016, 2017). Informed by the language teacher socialization framework (Üzüm, 2017), the influences of new academic cultures on teachers' identity work in classrooms and across wider contexts of teaching abroad practices were analyzed. Analysis of the short stories, Stories, and STORIES demonstrated that transnational teachers experienced identity tensions due to the conflicting academic teaching cultures. In light of the findings, such tensions related to language teachers' experiences across academic teaching cultures need to be taken into account for an efficient socialization trajectory. © 2021 Editorial Board TESL - EJ. Bu araştırma, müzik öğretmeni adaylarının bilişötesi öğrenme stratejlerini kullanma düzeylerinin belirlenerek farklı değişkenler açısından incelenmesi amacındadır. Betimsel tarama modelinde gerçekleştirilen çalışmanın araştırma grubunu, 92 müzik öğretmeni adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma sürecinde veriler araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” ve Namlu (2004) tarafından geliştirilen “Bilişötesi Öğrenme Stratejileri Ölçeği” ile toplanmıştır. Kişisel bilgi formunda yer alan maddelerin analizinde betimsel istatistiklerden frekans, ortalama ve standart sapma değerleri kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin kişisel özellikleri açısından yapılan ikili karşılaştırmalarda bağımsız gruplar için t-testi kullanılırken ikiden fazla grubun karşılaştırılmasında tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda, müzik öğretmeni adaylarının bilişötesi öğrenme stratejilerini kullanma düzeylerinin orta seviyenin üzerinde olduğu, bu düzeyin cinsiyet, sınıf, yaş ve bireysel çalgı ders saatlerini yeterli bulup/bulmama değişkenleri açısından anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediği belirlenmiştir. Günlük bireysel çalgı çalışma sürelerine göre incelendiğinde, öğrencilerin programlı çalışma, ders için önceden hazırlık yapma ve zihinsel olarak derse hazırlanma gibi stratejileri içeren “planlama” boyutunda günde 1-2 saat çalışanlar lehine anlamlı farklılık bulunmuştur., This study aims to investigate pre-service music teachers’ determined levels of using metacognitive learning strategies in terms of different variables. The research group of the study, which was carried out in the descriptive survey model, consists of 92 music teacher candidates. As the data collection tools, “Personal Information Form” and “Metacognitive Learning Strategies Scale” were used. In the analysis of the items presented in the “Personal Information Form”, descriptive statistics techniques such as frequency, mean, and standard deviation values were used. For the comparison of two variables, t-tests were run whereas a one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) were utilized for comparing more than two variables. According to the findings of the research, it was revealed that pre-service music teachers’ levels of using metacognitive learning strategies were above moderate levels, and that this level did not show statistically significant difference in terms of variables as follows: gender, grade, age, and finding/not finding the number of individual instrument lessons sufficient. When examined according to duration of daily individual instrument study, however, a statistically significant difference was detected on the component of planning, which included strategies such as prior preparation for the class and mental class preparation, in the favor of the group who studied 1-2 hours in a day.

Nakiboğlu, Canan (Balikesir Author), 2018 Ortaöğretim Kimya Dersi Öğretim Programında yer alan "doğa ve kimya" ünitesi, çevre ilgili sorunlar, sorunların nedenleri ve bu konuların dayandığı kimyasal temellerin öğretildiği bir ünitelerdir. Bu çalışmada, 10. sınıf öğrencilerinin "doğa ve kimya" ünitesinin öğretilmesinden sonra suyun hayat için önemi, çevre kirliliği ve çevre kirliliğinin azaltılması için alınması gereken önlemler ile ilgili kavramalarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma grubu 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılında 10. sınıfa devam eden 421 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Veriler, dört faktörden oluşan "Doğa ve Kimya Ünitesi Başarı Testi” kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Çalışmada, suyun önemini, su tasarrufu ve su kaynakları ile ilgili konularda öğrencilerin kavramaları yüksek düzeydeyken; yumuşak su, suyun özellikleri ve endüstride su kullanımı gibi daha fazla kimya bilgisi gerektiren konularda öğrenci kavramalarının daha düşük olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Çalışmada ulaşılan diğer bir sonuç, öğrencilerin küresel ısınmaya neden olan gazları tam olarak kavramadıkları ve bu gazları asit yağmuruna neden olan gazlardan tam olarak ayırt edemedikleridir. Son olarak, çevre sorunları için geliştirilen çözüm yollarından en etkili olanı insanların bu sorunlar hakkında bilinçlendirilmesi olacağından, bunun sağlanması için nitelikli bir çevre dersine ortaöğretim programında ayrı bir ders olarak yer verilmesi önerisinde bulunulmuştur., The "nature and chemistry" unit included in the 2018 Secondary School Chemistry Curriculum is the unit in which the environmental issues, the causes of environmental problems, and the chemical foundations of the environmental issues. This study aims to determine the conceptions of 10th-grade students about the importance of water for life, environmental pollution and the measures to be taken for the reduction of environmental pollution after the teaching. The study group consisted of 421 students attending to 10th grade in the 2019-2020 academic year. The "Nature and Chemistry Unit Achievement Test" with four factors was used to determine the students' conceptions. It was concluded that although the students' conception about the topics concerning daily life such as the importance of water for life, water conservation, and water resources is at a high level, the students' conception of the topics that require theoretical knowledge such as soft water, properties of water and water use in the industry are the weak. Another conclusion reached in the study is that the students do not fully comprehend the gases that cause global warming and cannot distinguish these gases from the gases that cause acid rain. Finally, since the most effective solution to environmental issues will be to raise the awareness of people about these problems, it is suggested that a qualified environment-course should be included as a separate course in the secondary school program.

Çoramık, Mustafa (Balikesir Author), Bir niceliğin büyüklüğünü belirleme işi olan “ölçme” ve bu nicelik cinsinden belirli bir büyüklüğü tanımlayan “birimler”, temel bilimler için çok önemlidir. Ölçmeyi standart hale getirmek için Uluslararası Birimler Sistemi (SI) kabul edilmiştir. Bu birim sistemi ile “temel birimler” tanımlanmıştır. Bu araştırmada, fizik, kimya, biyoloji ve fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının SI’da yer alan “temel birimler” ve ölçmede kullanılan “ön ekler” ile ilgili bilgi düzeyini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan betimsel model kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya, Türkiye’de yer alan bir üniversitenin eğitim fakültesinin üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıfında öğrenim gören 196 öğretmen adayı katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen ve üç açık uçlu sorudan oluşan “Temel Birimler ve Ön Ekler Açık Uçlu Soru Formu” kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri “Betimsel İstatistik” ile birlikte “İlişkisiz Örneklemler için Tek Yönlü Varyans Analizi” ve “İlişkisiz Ölçümler için Kruskal Wallis H-Testi” ile analiz edilmiştir. An international unit system (SI) has been adopted to standardize measurement. “Base units” are defined in “SI” unit system. In this study, it is aimed to determine the knowledge level of physics, chemistry, biology and science teacher candidates about “base units” and “prefixes”. Descriptive model, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. A total of 196 students studying at the faculty of education at a university located in Turkey participated in the study. “Base Units and Prefixes Open-ended Questionnaire”, which was developed by researchers, consisting of three open-ended questions was used as data collection tool in the research. Research data were analyzed with “descriptive statistics”, “One Way Analysis of Variance” and “Kruskal Wallis H Test for Unequal Group Size”. The results of the research indicate that the pre-service teachers have a medium level of success in “base units” and a low level of success in “prefixes”. In addition, it is concluded that the level of knowledge of physics and chemistry teacher candidates on “base units” and “prefixes” subjects are higher than science and biology teacher candidates. Finally, it is concluded that as the level of grade increases, the level of knowledge about “base units” increases, but the level of knowledge about “prefixes” decreases or does not change. The results of the research have been discussed by considering the undergraduate programs and laboratory education. In addition, various recommendations have been presented for teaching the unit of measurement and unit systems in teaching departments.

Uyangör, Nihat (Balikesir Author), The purpose of this study is to examine the partial mediating effect of epistemological beliefs in the correlation between preferences towards educational philosophy and the curriculum design approach of pre-service teachers. For this purpose, pre-service teachers’ educational philosophy preferences, curriculum design orientation, and epistemological beliefs have been analyzed, and a model has been developed. Three different instruments have been implemented to randomly chosen 568 pre-service teachers in several departments in Necatibey Faculty of Education of Balıkesir University in Turkey. In the analyzing process, first, a measurement model has been developed, and compatibility of the model with real data has tested, second, Pearson correlation coefficients have calculated, and the levels have defined, third, t values have calculated for the direct effect between preference for educational philosophies and curriculum design orientation preference, and at last, the epistemological beliefs have added to the model, and the moderating role on them has calculated. Based on findings, it can be concluded that from the pre-service teachers perspective; there is a positive correlation between widely accepted educational philosophies, and curriculum design orientations and there is a positive correlation between epistemological beliefs in effort and contemporary educational philosophies. In line with that, there is a positive correlation between epistemological belief in effort, and student-oriented design and problem-oriented design. Besides educational philosophy preferences (P=.14) and epistemological beliefs (P=.18) have a separate effect on curriculum design orientation, and epistemological beliefs (CIs =-.029 ~.588) do not have a mediating role on the effect of educational philosophy preferences. © 2021, Ozgen Korkmaz. Erdener, Mehmet Akif (Balikesir Author), Beginning with the 2015-2016 academic year in Turkey, school principals were given the responsibility of instructional supervisory authority. The purpose of this study is to reveal the level of instructional supervision exhibited by the school principals according to the perceptions of teachers and to examine these perceptions in terms of various variables. In this context, 1237 teachers working in primary, middle and high schools in Balikesir and Bursa provinces were included in the study. In the study, a survey was used to reveal the current situation regarding instructional supervision exhibited by the school principals. The results of the study showed that the instructional supervision exhibited by the school principals occurred at a low frequency. Değişen Madde Fonksiyonunun (DMF) belirlenmesi, bir testin ve testten alınan puanların geçerliğine ilişkin önemli göstergeler sunmaktadır. difR paketi ise farklı DMF belirleme yöntemlerinin uygulanmasına izin vererek araştırmacılara ve uygulayıcılara büyük kolaylık sağlayan R paketidir. Bu araştırmanın temel amacı örnek bir araştırma verisi üzerinden, difR paketinde farklı DMF belirleme yöntemlerine ilişkin; yazılım kurulumu, varsayımların incelenmesi, analiz adımları ve analiz sonuçlarının yorumlanması için izlenen sürecin resmedilmesidir. Bu temel amaç doğrultusunda Türkiye'de 8. sınıf öğrencilerine uygulanan Ortaöğretime Geçiş Sınavı 2018 uygulamasında yer alan fen maddelerinin, madde sıra etkisi bakımından DMF gösterme durumları incelenmiştir. Bu yönüyle araştırma tarama modelinde bir araştırmadır. Araştırmada sıklıkla kullanılan DMF belirleme yöntemlerinden Klasik Test Kuramına dayalı Mantel-Haenszel, Lojistik Regresyon ve SIBTEST ile Madde Tepki Kuramına dayalı Olabilirlik Oran yöntemlerine ilişkin adımlar ele alınmıştır. DMF analizleri sonucu elde edilen bulgulara göre fen maddelerinin madde sıra etkisi bakımından çoğunlukla DMF göstermediği ya da ihmal edilebilir düzeyde DMF gösterdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır., Differential Item Functioning (DIF) analyses provide critical information about validity of a test. R; an open source software, that comprises all of the DIF detection methods, has an important role in DIF research. Therefore, conducting a guiding study for measurement invariance or DIF analyses by following scientific methods and procedures will be very useful for researchers and practitioners. In this research, it is aimed to illustrate the procedures followed in different DIF detection methods in R, beginning from the installation of the R software to the interpretation of the analysis results, using a sample test (science sub-test of Secondary School Entrance Examination) and data. Four DIF detection methods, which are commonly used in DIF analyses, Mantel-Haenszel, Logistic Regression, SIBTEST and Likelihood Ratio methods are handled in this study. According to the analysis results, no items indicate DIF or indicate negligible DIF.

Developments in technology and Internet have brought about different viewpoints and innovations in the field of education as well as in all other areas. In order to meet the expectations of the new generation born into technology and to support new paradigms in learning, the concept of learning spaces has been in use, and it has become an increasingly important concept in related literature. In this respect, the present study aimed at presenting the results of content analysis on the articles related to Learning Spaces concept in Scopus database between 2008 and 2017. A total of 95 papers were examined to determine the concept list, top journal list, most cited papers, research methods and models, participants, data collection tools and variables in these articles. The study is considered to be important as no content analysis has been conducted on the concept of learning spaces concept. The research results revealed a considerable increase in the number of studies on the concept of learning Spaces by year. It was seen in these studies that conceptual/descriptive methods and qualitative methods were prominent as the research methods; that undergraduate students were preferred more as participants; and that the most common data collection tools included interview and questionnaire. Lastly, in the studies examined, perception and academic performance were among the most popular dependent variables.

Topuzkanamış, Ersoy (Balikesir Author), The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of Facebook use on writing achievement, writing attitude, writing anxiety and writing self-efficacy of the students in the written expression course. In the study, pre-test post-test quasi-experimental design with study and control groups was used. The experimental group included 96 students attending Psychological Counseling and Guidance Department in the Faculty of Education in a state university located in western Turkey during 2017-2018 academic year fall semester. In the study, the written expression course was instructed with written homework assignments in the control group and by sharing the written assignments on Facebook in the experimental group. The study findings demonstrated that Facebook use produced better results in terms of writing achievements and attitudes when compared to the conventional method, however the impact was not significant in terms of writing self-efficacy and writing anxiety

Bayındır, Dilan (Balikesir Author), Ego resiliency means positive development tendency despite risk factors. Resilient children are expected to cope with individual, familial and environmental risk factors, so developing resiliency could be accepted as a developmental task for children. The aim of the study is to investigate the predictive role of two selected individual variables; inhibitory control skills and temperament characteristics of preschool children, on their ego resiliency levels. The study is in survey method. The sample of the study includes 55- 73 months old 78 children, who attend preschools. The data collection tools that are used in this study are; The Personal Information Form, The Short Temperament Scale for Children and Children’s Ego Resiliency Scale (Mother Form). Also two tasks, named as Green-Red Signs and Touch Your Toe were used to assess preschoolers’ inhibitory control skills. When all the variables are considered together in the regression analysis, it has been found that the inhibitory control skills are significantly predictive of children's ego resiliency, but temperamental characteristics are not., Ego sağlamlığı risk faktörlerine rağmen olumlu gelişim eğilimini ifade etmektedir. Ego sağlamlığına sahip çocukların bireysel, ailesel ve çevresel risk faktörleri ile baş etmeleri beklenmektedir, bu nedenle de ego sağlamlığı geliştirmek çocuklar için bir gelişim görevi olarak kabul edilebilir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, bireysel boyutta seçilmiş iki değişkenin, öz kontrol becerileri ve mizaç özellikleri, ego sağlamlık düzeyleri üzerindeki yordayıcı rolünü araştırmaktır. Araştırma tarama modelinde tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini, yaşları 55-73 aylar arasında olan okul öncesi eğitim kurumlarına devam eden 78 çocuk oluşturmaktadır. Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Çocuklar için Kısa Mizaç Ölçeği ve Çocuk Ego Sağlamlığı Ölçeği (Anne Formu) araştırmada kullanılan veri toplama araçlarıdır. Ayrıca çocukların öz kontrol becerilerini değerlendirmek için Yeşil-Kırmızı İşaretler ve Ayak Parmağına Dokun görevleri kullanılmıştır. Regresyon analizi ile tüm değişkenlerin birlikte etkisine bakıldığında, öz kontrol becerilerinin çocukların ego sağlamlık düzeylerinin anlamlı bir yordayıcısı olduğu, fakat mizaç özelliklerinin yordayıcı etkisinin olmadığı bulunmuştur.

The aim of the study is to put forth the opinions of social studies teacher on the usage of Education Informatics Network (EIN). In accordance with this objective, 60 social studies teachers who work in secondary education institutions affiliated to Ministry of National Education in the various cities of Turkey form the sample group of the study. The volunteered teachers who attended the in-service trainings named “Teaching Methods and Techniques in Social Studies and EIN” which were held by Ministry of National Education form the sample group of the research. As data collection tool, “EIN Opinion Scale” which was developed by researchers and was composed of open-ended questions was used. The data obtained from the scale was analysed via conduct analysis method. According to the results of the study; it was found that most of the social studies teachers use EIN in order to provide document, they don’t use EIN to upload content, they just use it to provide information only. It was also seen that they consider themselves inadequate on the subject of developing content and they don’t use Content Management System mostly.

Şenel, Selma (Balikesir Author), Nitelikli insan gücünün yetiştirilebilmesi ve eğitim yatırımlarının yerine ulaşması için öğrenci başarısının ölçülmesi ve ölçme sonuçlarının değerlendirilerek, eğitimin sonraki sürecinin belirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Bu noktada öğretmenlerin ölçme ve değerlendirme (Ö&D) konularındaki bilgi, tecrübe ve yeterlilikleri belirleyici bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu araştırmada Kimya öğretmenlerinin Ö&D alanında yetersiz hissettikleri konuları ve bu alanda yaşadıkları problemleri ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Uygulamadaki Ö&D sorunlarına, kavram ve uygulama yanılgılarına odaklı derinlemesine bir analiz yapmak amacıyla nitel bir yaklaşım benimsenmiştir. Her biri 6 öğretmenden oluşan iki odak grup görüşmesi yapılmıştır. Veriler, içerik analizi ile çözümlemiştir. Verilerin analizi sonucunda, öğretmenlerin özellikle soru yazma ve alternatif Ö&D araçlarını kullanma konularında yetersizlik duydukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ö&D alanında yaşanan temel problemler ise; iyi bir ölçme yapabilmenin uzun ve güç bir süreç olması, eğitim sisteminin Ö&D’ye dayatmaları, kaliteli soru örnekleri/havuzlarının olmaması ve hizmet içi eğitimlerin etkisiz olması olarak bulunmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda uygulamaya dönük hizmet içi eğitimler ve değişen öğretim programlarıyla birlikte güncellenebilecek eğitim materyallerinin tasarlanması yönünde öneriler sunulmuştur., This research aimed to reveal the insufficiencies and problems of chemistry teachers in measurement and evaluation (M&E). A qualitative approach has been adopted in order to make an in-depth determination. Data were collected by focus group interview. The interviews were held with two groups of 6 participants each and results were analyzed with content analysis. Inter-coder rating between encoders was found 89.47%. As a result of the research, two themes emerged in parallel with research purpose. These are Chemistry teachers' (i) insufficiencies and (ii) practice problems in M&E. In “insufficiencies” theme, it was seen that teachers were most concerned about "developing items" and "alternative assessment methods". The biggest problems are "long and difficult process of M&E" and "pressure of the education system on the M&E". According to results, we propose organizing in-service trainings about developing a valid and reliable test, item development, alternative assessment and graded scoring.

With the invention of smartphones, education has undergone a radical change in terms of its nature, techniques, principles and education policies. Smartphones are regarded as a distinctive milestone in the history of education. Mobile applications act as the main tool in the integration of smartphones into education. Among all mobile applications, the ones created for educational purposes, especially language instruction holds the lion’s share in number. Similarly, among all language instruction applications, vocabulary applications significantly outnumber the others both in number and functionality. However, one of the main problems with vocabulary applications in application markets is that there is no exact classification of published applications and no set of methodological criteria in the publication process of applications, resulting in the emergence of a learning environment that lacks methodological background. During language teaching and learning, the focus is on how correct or wrong the input is reflected in the output. Accuracy first approaches reject errors due to the risk of interference whereas the communicative approaches use them as signs of learning. So, errors play a vital role in foreign language learning. It is viewed as improvement in different language learning approaches. This paper after reviewing the literature about error and error correction in English language teaching examines the types of errors the students can self-correct. The procedure is as follows: Twenty erroneous sentences from examination papers were chosen as student errors and learners were asked to correct any kind of errors in the sentences. The results were categorised, analysed and commented. The results show that students are better at correcting the structural errors and worst in discourse ones. Under these findings, it is suggested that learner training should focus more on contextual learning. Keywords: Error correction, EFL, self-correction, accuracy, exam papers.

The present study aimed at conducting content analysis on dissertations carried out so far in the field of Educational Technology in Turkey. A total of 137 dissertations were examined to determine the key words, academic discipline, research areas, theoretical frameworks, research designs and models, statistical analyses, data collection tools, participants, instructional design models, variables/research focus and related institutions. When the research results were examined, it was found in relation to the dissertations that the most frequent method was "mixed method"; that the most frequent data collection tools were "interview", "questionnaire" and "scale"; that the participants were generally "university students"; that the dependent variables were "attitude" and "achievement"; that the most frequent data analysis method was "parametric analysis"; and that the field of "education and training" was the one most frequently investigated. Among the most frequent key words was Online Learning, which was followed by Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Teacher Training and Special Education. In this respect, the present study, which examined dissertations, is thought to be important since it tried to reveal the current state of educational technologies in Turkey and to determine the related research trends.

Dirmenci, Tuncay (Balikesir Author), Teucrium alyssifolium Stapf (endemic), Teucrium pestalozzae Boiss. (endemic) and Teucrium brevifolium Schreb. are three closely related taxa in Teucrium sect. Teucrium. The obtained data from the anatomical studies revealed that these three taxa represent the general anatomical characteristics of the Lamiaceae family. Leaves, anatomical features such as thick cuticle, abundant trichomes, rich palisade parenchyma layer in the mesophyll provide evidence that these three species are xeromorphic structures. Leaf and stem anatomy showed that the taxa have generally similar anatomical features. However, cuticle layers, epidermis cells size, indumentum density, mesophyll types, palisade parenchyma occupied in the mesophyll, presence of spherocrystals in leaves and parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma layers in stems show differences amongst the taxa. Çoramık, Mustafa (Balikesir Author), In electromagnetism, to determine the direction of the electromagnetic force and magnetic field, the right-hand rule (RHR) is used. Previous researches show that students have difficulty in applying the RHR. This research is aimed to find out the factors which make it difficult for the students to apply the RHR. To achieve this, qualitative case study design is used and 270 students who took Basic Physics II course at university participated. The Right-Hand Rule-Diagnostic Test (RHR-DT) and the unstructured interview were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, firstly, the right-hand types used by the students were determined. Then the right-hand types used by the students in the solution of each task are presented. After that, eight of these students were interviewed about their RHR-DT answers and those interviews were video recorded. Video recordings are divided into three categories according to the level of students: upper, middle and lower. According to the results of this research, it can be said that the conceptual understanding of electromagnetism, the vector algebra and spatial cognition effect the usage of the RHR. In the light of research results, suggestions were made for the teaching of RHR to physics teachers.
