Auxetic materials or materials with a negative Poissons ratio have a great potential to be used in many industries because of their specific mechanical properties such as high stiffness and strength with significant weight saving. In this article, the effect of various parameters of the fabrication process on the microstructure of a polyurethane auxetic foam was investigated. Moreover, the compression behavior of this foam in different situations, from quasi-static to high strain rate loading, was studied comprehensively. Results indicated that 70% volume reduction, being heated to 180[degrees]C and kept at that temperature for 1 h and 45 min could maximize the auxeticity of the foam. Microscopic images demonstrated that the foam structure cells were transformed from honeycomb to re-entrant, causing the Poisson's ratio to become negative. With increasing the re-entrant cells, the auxeticity of the foam increased, which leads to increasing the absorbed energy in quasi-static compression up to 443%, and in high strain rate loading up to 617%. The classical renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has an important role in the cardiovascular system and water homeostasis in the body. Recently, the existence of RAS with all of its components has been shown in the mammalian brain. RAS participates in many brain activities, including memory acquisition and consolidation. Addressing these issues, this article introduces the Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence Non-Formal Education System (BANFES), an innovative educational solution specifically designed for Afghan girls deprived of formal schooling. BANFES leverages advanced artificial intelligence technologies, including personalized data analysis, to provide customized learning experiences. Additionally, blockchain technology ensures secure record management and data integrity, facilitating a decentralized educational ecosystem where various nodes offer hybrid learning methodologies without intermediaries. This system not only adapts to individual learning speeds and styles to enhance engagement and outcomes but also employs an independent assessment mechanism to evaluate learners. Such evaluations promote transparency and maintain the quality and reputation of educational contributions within the network. The BANFES initiative also addresses implementation challenges, including local distrust and integration with existing educational structures, providing a robust model to overcome barriers to education. Furthermore, the paper explores the scalability of BANFES, proposing its application as a global strategy for non-formal education systems facing similar geopolitical and infrastructural challenges. Background: Severe mental illnesses (SMIs), including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder affect patients significantly. Gender has been identified as a key factor influencing the experience of SMIs with notable disparities in prevalence, symptoms, and treatment outcomes. Additionally, the quality of life (QoL) and social support for patients with SMIs can vary based on gender. Aims: This study examined gender differences in QoL and social support of patients with SMIs. Method: Participants include 170 outpatients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder at Shafa Hospital (2021). QoL and social support were assessed using World Health Organization QoL (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire and Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS), respectively. Group differences were analyzed using t -test or Mann–Whitney U test, and two-way multivariate analyses of variance explored the effect of gender and disease type. Results: It was indicated that females with schizophrenia reported higher QoL than males, but the opposite was observed for bipolar disorder. Gender differences in social support were not significant among schizophrenia patients, nor between the two patient groups. However, women with bipolar disorder and multiple hospitalizations experienced lower social support and QoL compared to men. Additionally, more hospitalizations were associated with decreased QoL in both genders with schizophrenia. Conclusions: Findings suggest the need for gender- specific interventions and support policies to enhance QoL and social support in patients with SMI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current research was conducted to produce a gel emulsion with reduced saturated and Trans fatty acids that can be used as shortening. Hydrocolloids of guar gum, κ-carrageenan, CMC, and maltodextrin were used to prepare gel emulsion. For emulsion stability, PGPR (1%) was used as an emulsifier. In the first phase of the research, for the production of gel emulsion using guar gum from 0 to 0.25%, κ-carrageenan from 0 to 2%, CMC from 0 to 3%, and maltodextrin from 0 to 20%, different formulations were determined by Design Expert software and by Response surface method and optimal design, and samples formulations were produced. Sensory and hardness evaluation tests were performed and regression models for predicting hardness (sensory) responses, overall acceptance, and hardness were presented and the optimal formulation was determined. In the second phase of the research, the optimal formulation of gel emulsion at the levels of 25, 50, 75, and 100% was used to produce biscuits, and the physicochemical, sensory, and peroxide value were investigated. The results showed that by replacing 50% of shortening with biscuit gel emulsion with less amount of fat and saturated fatty acid and without Trans and in terms of physicochemical and sensory properties, it is obtained similar to the sample containing shortening. Objective(s): Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is the most common metabolic complication of pregnancy that causes central nervous system and olfactory dysfunction in the offspring. It has been demonstrated that dopamine modulates several aspects of olfactory information processing in vertebrates. Materials and Methods: In this study, we investigated the effect of gestational diabetes on the expression of the Dopamine (DA) metabolism genes, tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), and dopa decarboxylase (DDC) in the olfactory bulb (OB) tissue of rats' offspring. Female Wistar rats were divided into a control group which received citrate buffer and the diabetic group which received 45 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ) on day 0 of gestation. Fasting blood glucose levels were measured before and 72 hr after injection. OB tissues of adult offspring were isolated, and TH-positive cells were counted by immunofluorescence staining. Also, TH and DDC expressions were analyzed by qRT-PCR and western blot. Results: The data showed that gestational diabetes could cause up-regulation of TH (P<0.01) and DDC (P<0.05) in the OB tissue of offspring. Furthermore, our results showed that GDM causes a significant increase in TH and DDC protein levels in the OB tissues of offspring. Immunohistochemistry showed a significant increase in the number of TH-positive cells in the offspring of diabetic mothers (P<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that gestational diabetes could cause an increase in TH and DDC gene expression in the OB tissue in the offspring, which may be correlated with reduced olfactory sensitivity. Background and Aim: Oral infections are common among people of any age and can trigger systemic inflammation. The microbiota is a diverse group of microorganisms that play important roles in metabolism, immune function, and homeostasis. Oral microbiota in human atherosclerotic plaques has been identified using various techniques. Therefore, the focus of this study was to determine the correlation between metabolic parameters and oral microbiota composition in patients with atherosclerosis using Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) assays. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, saliva samples were collected from 139 patients with atherosclerosis and healthy individuals from Imam Ali Cardiovascular Hospital, Kermanshah, Iran. After DNA extraction, PCR products were examined and evaluated using DGGE assays. Results: The study included 89 (36%) patients with a history of atherosclerosis and 50 (36%) healthy individuals. There was a significant relationship between the mean total cholesterol, Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), and Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) in the two groups. However, there was no significant difference in the mean high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and Triglyceride levels between the study groups. Conclusion: Our results showed a relationship between metabolic parameters and oral microbiota composition in patients with atherosclerosis. Additionally, our results indicated that the DGGE assay is a useful method for diagnosing and comparing the oral microbiota of people with atherosclerosis and healthy individuals. Introduction: High concentration of blood lead is accompanied by adverse health effects on growth of foetus and the newborn. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine umbilical cord blood lead level and its relationship with birth weight, length and head circumference of the newborns in Abadan, Iran. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 3 ml blood was collected from the umbilical cord vein in 147 newborns, immediately after the birth. Blood lead was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Data collection instruments included demographic questionnaire (age of mother, gestational age, newborn gender, job and education of mother) and also data registration form (umbilical cord blood lead concentration, weight, length, and head circumference of newborn). Data was analyzed with SPSS software version 16.0. Results: The mean of umbilical cord blood lead was determined 0.65±0.32 µg/dl (0.3-1.35 µg/dl). The decrease of birth weight with increased blood lead level was small and was not statistically significant. There was reverse significant correlation between umbilical cord blood lead level and birth length and head circumference. There was no significant correlation between blood lead and other variables such as age, weight, education and job of mother and gestational age. The article begins by defining the concept of digital transformation, describing its scope, and explaining two conceptual frameworks to provide a deep understanding of the concept. This article then explores the benefits of digital transformation, examines its impact, and identifies its enablers and barriers. Each source examined was analyzed to extract qualitative results and assess its contribution to the researched topic. This paper also acknowledges the challenges posed by digital transformation, including concerns about cybersecurity, data privacy, and workforce displacement. Finally, we discuss the potential developments that are expected in the future of digital transformation in the power sector and conclude that digital transformation has the potential to significantly improve the energy sector's efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency. Food additives contain synthetic and natural chemical compounds and are one of the causes of food allergies. In this regard, it is necessary to recognize the food additives that are of special interest for children. In this survey, the relation between food additives and allergic reactions and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders in children was studied. The research studies with keywords "allergic reactions", "hypersensitivity", "food additives" and "children" were searched in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, and SID databases, from 1984 to 2020. Three hundred twenty-seven studies were obtained and only seven articles were finally selected according to exclusion and inclusion criteria. In the final review, seven articles were selected to investigate the relationship between food additives and hypersensitivity reactions. Some clinical factors such as urticaria, eczema, rhinitis and gastrointestinal symptoms and the prevalence of laboratory evidence in atopic children are due to increased exposure to food additives including artificial colors and sweeteners, preservatives, and monosodium glutamate. Clinical signs and laboratory evidence prove a significant association between some food additives and allergenic adverse reactions. It was also found that food additives such as artificial colors and sweeteners, preservatives, and monosodium glutamate are responsible for most cases of hypersensitivity in children, and the prevalence of hypersensitivity to food additives was estimated to be about 1.2% based on data extracted from studies.
