In this study, we use the integral averaging methodology, comparison with second-order differential equations, and the Riccati technique to determine the Philos-type and Hille–Nehari-type oscillation conditions of fourth-order advanced differential equations with canonical operators. In essence, these techniques supplement and generalize a wide range of established oscillation conditions. Two instance cases demonstrate the importance of our outcomes and their significant improvement.

In this work, we find new oscillation criteria for fourth-order advanced differential equations with a p-Laplace-type operator. We established our results through a comparison method with integral averaging and Riccati techniques to obtain new oscillatory properties for the considered equation. Our criteria substantially simplify and complement a number of existing ones. We give some examples to illustrate the significance of the obtained results.

Abstract In this article, we are focusing on heat and mass transfer through a Multicomponent tubular reactor containing a cooling jacket by thermal decomposition of propylene oxide in water. The chemical reaction is an irreversible, 1st order reaction and an exothermic reaction that yields propylene glycol with enthalpy = −84,666 J/mol. The constant rate of the reaction is followed by the Arrhenius equation in which the activation energy is taken on a trial basis in the range from 75,000 to 80,000 J/mol with a fixed frequency factor. For the fluid to flow, the Reynolds number is kept in the range from 100 to 1000. The three partial differential equations of mass, momentum, and energy are coupled to study heat and mass transfer in a tubular reactor by using the chemistry interface in COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4. The initial concentration of propylene oxide is tested in the range from 2 to 3% and the thermal conductivity of the mixture is tested in the range 0.599–0.799. It was found that the amount deactivated of the compound decreases with an increase in Reynolds number. Propylene oxide is decomposed at about 99.8% at Re = 100 at lower activation energy and gives the total maximum enthalpy change in the tubular reactor. Observing the relationship between Sherwood numbers to Nusselt numbers, it was deducted that the convective heat transfer is opposite to convective mass transfer for high Reynolds numbers.

Abstract This research examines the thin-film nanomaterial movement in three dimensions over a stretchable rotating inclined surface. Similarity variables are used to transform fundamental systems of equations into a set of first-order differential equations. The Runge–Kutta Fourth Order approach is utilized for numerical computations. The impact of embedded parameters (variable thickness, unsteadiness, Prandtl number, Schmidt number, Brownian-motion, and thermophoretic) is examined carefully. Physically and statistically, the indispensable terms namely Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are also investigated. Results indicated that, as the dimensionless parameter S raises, the temperature field decreases. In reality, as the values of S increases, heat transmission rate from the disc to the flowing fluid reduces. Internal collisions of liquid particles are physically hampered at a low rate. The momentum boundary layer is cooled when the parameter S is increased, as a consequence local Nusselt number rises. Sherwood number decreases as the parameter S increases because of inter collision of the microscopic fluid particles. Enhancing in the apparent viscosity and concentrations of the chemical reactions, a higher Schmidt number, Sc, lowers the Sherwood number. With increasing values of Prandtl number the Nusselt number decreases. For validation purpose, the RK4 method is also compared with homotopy analysis method (HAM). The results are further verified by establishing an excellent agreement with published data.

In this article, the heat and mass transfer mechanism of micropolar nanofluid embedded with Buoyancy force and magnetic field across an enclosure has been analyzed. Mass, energy, and momentum equations are required to construct the mathematical model to evaluate the efficacy of thermal performance of nanoparticles.The motivation for this study is to improve heat and mass transfer efficiency in heat transfer equipment and heat recovery units in industrial and engineering processes. Given the signification of dimensional analysis, 2D model is set up in their dimensionless context. In addition, the finite volume approach (FVM) is employed for numerical simulations. The thermophoresis and Brownian motion parameters has been considered for the temperature field, as proven via simulation. As a result of the random mobility of nanoparticles, more heat is emitted inside the enclosure. Furthermore, mass diffusivity and Schmidt number are inversely related,so that mass diffusion inside the cavity is faster for small values of Schmidt number. Additionally, it is discovered that a high vortex viscosity parameter produces a weak concentration field and has significant behavior when thermophoresis parameter and Reynolds number are significant. The simulations are captured in graphical form, and their results are explained in detail.

Kepengrusan pesantren Raudlatul Qur’an sudah ada yang mengelolanya sendiri. Pengurus dari pesantren tersebut anak kiai itu sendiri yang sudah lama mondok di pesantran dan mempunyai pengetahuan yang mumpuni serta mempunyai jiwa kepemimpinan. Kemudian pesantren Raudlatul Qur’an juga menjadi sebuah yayasan untuk berjaga-jaga agar pesantren tidak lenyap bersama meniggalnya kiai, bila ahli waris tidak mampu atau tidak mau melanjutkan fungsi orangtua mereka. Di pondok pesantren Raudlatul Qur’an ini menganut golongan Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) yang dimana santri di ajarkan untuk selalu mandiri dan di dalam Islam itu tidak menganggap semua agama itu sama tapi Islam menjarkan untuk memperlakukan semua agama itu sama.

In this work, we analyze the characteristics of periodic flows in non-isothermal viscous fluid over a heated block in the presence of thermal plates at Reynolds number (Re=100). The unsteady, incompressible Navier–Stokes (NS) equations with suitable initial and boundary data in 2D are executed by the finite element technique using a highly refined hybrid mesh. The temporal discretization is performed by an implicit stable backward differencing in time and a stable choice of finite elements from the finite element library for spatial discretization. The discrete nonlinear system arising from this discretization is linearized by Newton’s method and then solved through a direct linear solver PARDISO. For this forced convective study, the range of dimensionless parameters, namely, the Prandtl number (Pr) and power law index (n), are varied from 1 to 10 and 0.6 to 1.4 with a low Grashof number varying as (1≤Gr≤10) to produce a forced convection regime, respectively. For the authentication, we have compared our results with the literature at a similar configuration. After simulation, the results accomplished in the velocity profile, pressure, isotherm contours, drag and lift coefficients (trajectory motion), average Nusselt number (Nuavg), etc. are considered. For convergence of solution at low shear rate (n1), it converges to a single value. Furthermore, the drag (CD) and lift (CL) coefficients are more pronounced for shear-thinning cases (n1).

This research presents the stagnation point flow with heat transfer of water-based hybrid nanofluid over a stretching/shrinking wedge. Magnetic field is applied normal to the wedge with melting heat transfer effect. The wall of the boundary with slip effect on the surface. Water as base fluid with two different nanoparticles (Al2O3 and Cu) is considered. The Navier-Stokes and heat equation are first simplified through similarity variables to convert the partial differential equations (PDEs) into non-dimensional ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The numerical solutions are obtained with the help of bvp4c technique in MATLAB programming. This study is focused on the impacts of different dimensionless parameters on the velocity field, temperature distribution, skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number. It is seen that the solution of governing ODEs has two branches, first and second branch solutions in some specific range of supervising parameters. It is found that heat transfer rate enhances against melting parameter in the first branch solution and converse behavior can be observed for second branch solution. It is also uncovered that in hybrid nanofluid, the momentum and thermal boundary layer thickness enhances in first solution while reduces in the second solution with the advancement of angle of wedge parameter.

Recycling waste, such as rice straw and water treatment residuals, is important to reduce harmful effects on the environment and to improve canola yield and soil quality in degraded soils. Nanotechnology for the production of nanomaterials from biochar and water treatment residues will be a future revolution for improving soil quality and increasing canola yield in degraded soil. Therefore, this study aims to identify the properties of some recycled nanomaterials, such as nanobiochar (nB) and nanowater treatment residue (nWTR), and their effect on the biological activity and productivity of canola in degraded soils. The results showed that the nWTR and nB contain many functional groups and minerals, and they also have high negative zeta potential. The addition of the studied soil amendments significantly improved microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and biological activity, which played a major role in increasing canola yield. The highest dehydrogenase (DHA) and catalase (CLA) activity was found in nWTR-treated soil at 50 mg kg−1, with increases of 32.8% and 566.7% compared to the control, respectively. The addition of nB greatly improved the growth of canola plants in the soil. This was evident from the increase in the weight of seeds, the weight of 1000 grains, the number of pods per plant, and the highest increase was for nB added at the rate of 250 mg per kg−1 soil. The addition of 50 mg kg−1 of nWTR gave the best results in seed yield by 150.64% compared to the control. These results indicate that recycled nWTR and nB are some of the best waste recycling treatments, in addition to good soil health, in increasing soil biology and canola yield in degraded soils. In the future, research on recycled nanomaterials should examine the residual effect they have on yield, soil quality, and soil fauna in the long term.

Producing scalable, economically viable, low-carbon biofuels or biochemicals hinges on more efficient bioconversion processes. While microbial conversion can offer robust solutions, the native microbial growth process often redirects a large fraction of carbon to CO2 and cell mass. By integrating genome-scale metabolic models with techno-economic and life cycle assessment models, this study analyzes the effects of converting cell mass lipids to hydrocarbon fuels, and CO2 to methanol on the facility’s costs and life-cycle carbon footprint. Results show that upgrading microbial lipids or both microbial lipids and CO2 using renewable hydrogen produces carbon-negative bisabolene. Additionally, on-site electrolytic hydrogen production offers a supply of pure oxygen to use in place of air for bioconversion and fuel combustion in the boiler. To reach cost parity with conventional jet fuel, renewable hydrogen needs to be produced at less than $2.2 to $3.1/kg, with a bisabolene yield of 80% of the theoretical yield, along with cell mass and CO2 yields of 22 wt% and 54 wt%, respectively. The economic combination of cell mass, CO2, and bisabolene yields demonstrated in this study provides practical insights for prioritizing research, selecting suitable hosts, and determining necessary engineered production levels.

Background: Temperature screening checkpoints have become widely distributed during the COVID-19 pandemic, using various contactless methods of temperature measurement, including wrist and forehead measurement. Aim: In this study we aim to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of these two temperature measurement methods – wrist and forehead – compared with the standards of sublingual or axillary measurement. We also aim to investigate the influence of age, gender, device brand and diurnal effect on the temperature reading. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups, each group using a different temperature measurement device. All participants had their forehead and wrist temperature measured, and this was compared to their axillary or sublingual readings. Results: The area under the curve for wrist measurement was 0.49 (95% CI 0.34 and 0.64), p>0.05, with a sensitivity of 46.2% and specificity of 53.3%, while the area under the curve for forehead measurement was 0.70 (95% CI 0.51, 0.89), p

In this study, a new modification of the newly developed semi-analytical method, optimal auxiliary function method (OAFM) is used for fractional-order KdVs equations. This method is called the fractional optimal auxiliary function method (FOAFM). The time fractional derivatives are treated with Caputo sense. A rapidly convergent series solution is obtained from the FOAFM and is validated by comparing with other results. The analysis proves that our method is simplified and applicable, contains less computational work, and has fast convergence. The beauty of this method is that there is no need to assume a small parameter such as in the perturbation method. The effectiveness and accuracy of the method is proven by numerical and graphical results.

Different nanostructures of boron nitride have been observed experimentally such as fullerenes, tubes, cones, and graphene. They have received much attention due to their physical, chemical, and electronic properties that lead them to numerous applications in many nanoscale devices. Joining between nanostructures gives rise to new structures with outstanding properties and potential applications for the design of probes for scanning tunneling microscopy and other nanoscale devices, as carriers for drug delivery and liquid separation. This paper utilizes calculus of variations to model the joining between two types of BN nanostructures, namely, BN nanotubes and BN nanocones. Based on the curvature of the join curve, the joining of these structures can be divided into two models. Model I refers to when the join profile includes positive curvature only, and Model II contains both positive and negative curvatures. The main goal here is to formulate the basic underlying structure from which any such small perturbations can be viewed as departures from an ideal model. For this scenario of joining, we successfully present simple models based on joining BN nanotubes to BN nanocones with five different angles of the cone.

Boron nitride (BN) nanomaterials such as boron nitride graphenes, boron nitride nanotubes, and boron nitride nanocones are attracting attention among the most promising nanomaterials due to their physical, chemical, and electronic properties when compared to other nanomaterials. BN nanomaterials suggest many exciting potential applications in various fields. Joining between BN nanostructures gives new enhanced structures with outstanding properties and potential applications for design of probes for scanning tunnelling microscopy and other nanoscale devices. This paper uses calculus of variations to model the joining between BN graphene with other BN nanostructures: BNNTs and BNNCs. Furthermore, during the joining between these BN nanostructures, this research examines two models which are depending on the curvature of the join profile. For the first case, Model I refers to when the join profile only includes positive curvature where for the second case, Model II is considered for both positive and negative curvatures. Thus, the purpose of this research is to formulate the basic underlying structure to present simple models based on joining BN graphene to other BN nanostructures.

The present work discusses the 2D unsteady flow of second grade hybrid nanofluid in terms of heat transfer and MHD effects over a stretchable moving flat horizontal porous plate. The entropy of system is taken into account. The magnetic field and the Joule heating effects are also considered. Tiny-sized nanoparticles of silicon carbide and titanium oxide dispersed in a base fluid, kerosene oil. Furthermore, the shape factors of tiny-sized particles (sphere, bricks, tetrahedron, and platelets) are explored and discussed in detail. The mathematical representation in expressions of PDEs is built by considering the heat transfer mechanism owing to the effects of Joule heating and viscous dissipation. The present set of PDEs (partial differential equations) are converted into ODEs (ordinary differential equations) by introducing suitable transformations, which are then resolved with the bvp4c (shooting) scheme in MATLAB. Graphical expressions and numerical data are obtained to scrutinize the variations of momentum and temperature fields versus different physical constraints.

Background: People with intellectual disabilities (IDs) and their caregivers face difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, limited studies have comprehensively investigated their challenges, especially in Japan. We aimed to clarify the concerns and needs of people with IDs and their caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. Method: From March to August 2021, 27 in-depth interviews were conducted with principal caregivers of people with moderate to profound IDs in Japan. We then transcribed the interviews and conducted deductive coding using predetermined codes focused on their daily life difficulties. Inductive coding was used to ensure that no important themes were overlooked. Results: We found four concerns and four needs among people with IDs and their caregivers as significant themes. Conclusions: Our results provide useful information for supporting people with IDs and their caregivers, especially among those who need medical or social care in accordance with the infection control and social-distancing policies.

Electricity theft and fraud in energy consumption are two of the major issues for power distribution companies (PDCs) for many years. PDCs around the world are trying different methodologies for detecting electricity theft. The traditional methods for non-technical losses (NTLs) detection such as onsite inspection and reward and penalty policy have lost their place in the modern era because of their ineffective and time-consuming mechanism. With the advancement in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), newer and efficient NTL detection methods have been proposed by different researchers working in the field of data mining and AI. The AI-based NTL detection methods are superior to the conventional methods in terms of accuracy, efficiency, time-consumption, precision, and labor required. The importance of such AI-based NTL detection methods can be judged by looking at the growing trend toward the increasing number of research articles on this important development. However, the authors felt the lack of a comprehensive study that can provide a one-stop source of information on these AI-based NTL methods and hence became the motivation for carrying out this comprehensive review on this significant field of science. This article systematically reviews and classifies the methods explored for NTL detection in recent literature, along with their benefits and limitations. For accomplishing the mentioned objective, the opted research articles for the review are classified based on algorithms used, features extracted, and metrics used for evaluation. Furthermore, a summary of different types of algorithms used for NTL detection is provided along with their applications in the studied field of research. Lastly, a comparison among the major NTL categories, i.e., data-based, network-based, and hybrid methods, is provided on the basis of their performance, expenses, and response time. It is expected that this comprehensive study will provide a one-stop source of information for all the new researchers and the experts working in the mentioned area of research.

Biomass-derived sustainable aviation fuel holds significant potential for decarbonizing the aviation sector. Its long-term viability depends on crop choice, longevity of soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration, and the biomass-to-biojet fuel conversion efficiency. We explored the impact of fuel price and SOC value on viable biojet fuel production scale by integrating an agroecosystem model with a field-to-biojet fuel production process model for 1,4-dimethylcyclooctane (DMCO), a representative high-performance biojet fuel molecule, from Miscanthus, sorghum, and switchgrass. Assigning monetary value to SOC sequestration results in substantially different outcomes than an increased fuel selling price. If SOC accumulation is valued at $185/ton CO2, planting Miscanthus for conversion to DMCO would be economically cost-competitive across 66% of croplands across the continental United States (US) by 2050 if conventional jet fuel remains at $0.74/L (in 2020 US dollars). Cutting the SOC sequestration value in half reduces the viable area to 54% of cropland, and eliminating any payment for SOC shrinks the viable area to 16%. If future biojet fuel prices increase to $1.24/L-Jet A-equivalent, 48 to 58% of the total cultivated land in the United States could support a more diverse set of feedstocks including Miscanthus, sorghum, or switchgrass. Among these options, only 8-14% of the area would be suitable exclusively for Miscanthus cultivation. These findings highlight the intersection of natural solutions for carbon removal and the use of deep-rooted feedstocks for biofuels and biomanufacturing. The results underscore the need to establish clear and consistent values for SOC sequestration to enable the future bioeconomy.

A wide variety of wasted or underutilized organic feedstocks can be leveraged to build a sustainable bioeconomy, ranging from crop residues to food processor residues and municipal wastes. Leveraging these feedstocks is both high-risk and high-reward. Converting mixed, variable, and/or highly contaminated feedstocks can pose engineering and economic challenges. However, converting these materials to fuels and chemicals can divert waste from landfills, reduce fugitive methane emissions, and enable more responsible forest management to reduce the frequency and severity of wildfires. Historically, low-value components, including ash and lignin, are poised to become valuable coproducts capable of supplementing cement and valuable chemicals. Here, we evaluate the challenges and opportunities associated with converting a range of feedstocks to renewable fuels and chemicals.

Plastic recycling presents a vexing challenge. Mechanical recycling offers substantial greenhouse gas emissions savings relative to virgin plastic production but suffers from degraded aesthetic and mechanical properties. Polypropylene, one of the most widely used and lowest-cost plastics, features methyl pendants along the polymer backbone, rendering it particularly susceptible to declining properties, performance, and aesthetics across a succession of mechanical recycles. Advanced processes, such as solvent-assisted recycling, promise near-virgin quality outputs at a greater energy and emissions footprint. Mechanical and advanced recycling are often presented as competing options, but real-world plastic waste streams are likely to require preprocessing regardless of whether they are routed to an advanced process. This study quantifies the life-cycle greenhouse gas implications of multiple recycling strategies and proposes a system in which mechanical and solvent-assisted recycling can be leveraged together to boost recycling rates and satisfy demand for a wider range of product applications. Polypropylene can be recovered from mixed-plastic bales produced at material recovery facilities and processed through mechanical recycling, with a varying fraction sent for further upgrading via solvent-assisted recycling to produce material approved for food packaging and other higher-quality applications. The resulting mechanically recycled rigid polypropylene reduces life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions by 80% relative to the same quantity of virgin material, while the upgraded higher-quality material achieves GHG savings of 30%.

Amid growing concerns over the human health and environmental impacts of plastic waste, the most promising solution would be to build a circular plastics economy where sustainability considerations dictate the full life cycle of plastics use including replacing petrochemicals with biorenewables. Here we show that by incorporating the polyketide triacetic acid lactone (TAL) in polydiketoenamines (PDK) we increase the working temperature of these circular plastics, opening the door wider to applications where circularity is urgently needed. By varying the number of carbons of TAL-derived monomers, both polymer properties and recycling efficiency are affected. Simply using glucose as the main carbon source, we engineered a process for producing bioTAL under fed-batch fermentation. A systems analysis of this bioprocess under different scenarios quantifies the environmental and economic benefits of PDK plastics and the risks when implemented at an industrial scale, providing opportunities in biorenewable circularity.

Derived from renewable feedstocks, such as biomass, polylactic acid (PLA) is considered a more environmentally friendly plastic than conventional petroleum-based polyethylene terephthalate (PET). However, PLA must still be recycled, and its growing popularity and mixture with PET plastics at the disposal stage poses a cross-contamination threat in existing recycling facilities and results in low-value and low-quality recycled products. Hybrid upcycling has been proposed as a promising sustainable solution for mixed plastic waste, but its techno-economic and life cycle environmental performance remain understudied. Here we propose a hybrid upcycling approach using a biocompatible ionic liquid (IL) to first chemically depolymerize plastics and then convert the depolymerized stream via biological upgrading with no extra separation. We show that over 95% of mixed PET/PLA was depolymerized into the respective monomers, which then served as the sole carbon source for the growth of Pseudomonas putida, enabling the conversion of the depolymerized plastics into biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). In comparison to conventional commercial PHAs, the estimated optimal production cost and carbon footprint are reduced by 62% and 29%, respectively.

Background Polypharmacy is common among hospitalized patients with infectious infections owing to comorbidities or concomitant illnesses. This raises the likelihood of drug-drug interactions and creates uncertainty for healthcare providers. This study aimed to assess the potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) among hospitalized patients with infectious diseases in a secondary care hospital. Methods A prospective observational study was conducted in the internal medicine ward for six months after the ethics committee’s approval. Data were collected from patient case records, and prescriptions were screened for pDDIs from a portable electronic physician information database (PEPID) resource analyzed using SPSS, version 27.0. Results In total, 148 patient case records were analyzed, and 549 pDDIs were identified, with 66.8% having at least one or more DDIs. The mean number of drug interactions was 3.70 ± 4.58 per prescription. The most frequently encountered drug interactions were drug combinations such as bisoprolol with atorvastatin and aspirin with tazobactam/piperacillin. Bivariate analysis showed that age, comorbidities, length of hospital stay, and the number of drugs prescribed were risk factors associated with DDIs (p Conclusions This study observed the prevalence of DDIs in hospitalized patients with infectious diseases of ‘moderate’ severity. Prescription screening using a drug information database assists in early identification and prevention of DDIs, enhancing drug safety and quality of patient-centered care.
