Titanium and its alloys, such as Ti8Al1Mo1V, have gained significant importance in various industries, including chemical, aviation, aerospace, marine, and medical devices. These alloys are particularly valued for their high strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to adverse environmental conditions. In the aerospace field, titanium alloys find applications in compressor blades, turbine discs, housing inner skin, and nozzle assembly frames for jet engines. However, despite their widespread use, there is a lack of systematic reporting on the structure and properties of Ti8Al1Mo1V. To address this research gap, the present study focuses on investigating the structure and properties of Ti8Al1Mo1V alloy through specific heat treatments integrating the computational analysis. The study of experimental results by the Python programming language improved data insights and made thorough analysis easier. The alloy is subjected to a solutionizing and aging process, followed by air cooling and thermal oxidation treatments. Thermal oxidation is conducted at temperatures of 600°C, 750°C, and 900°C for durations of 6 hours, 15 hours, and 24 hours, respectively. Tensile tests and micro hardness tests are performed on the thermally oxidized samples. The micro hardness tests reveal that the hardness of the Ti8Al1Mo1V alloy is highest at the surface and gradually decreases towards the core. The maximum hardness value of 548.8 is obtained for the sample subjected to a 24-hour duration at 900°C, indicating that hardness increases with both temperature and time duration. This confirms that the extent of oxidation is directly proportional to temperature and time duration. The tensile test results indicate that both the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength decrease by 8% to 15% compared to the as-received (ASR) condition of the alloy. These findings provide insights into the structural changes and mechanical properties of Ti8Al1Mo1V alloy when subjected to specific heat treatments, contributing to a better understanding of its behavior in different environments. The future scope of work lies in the development and comprehensive assessment of advanced coatings to resist wear, corrosion and abrasion of engineering components in harsh environments. Among them, thermal spray especially HVAF coatings occupy an important place in coating huge and complex parts which become techno-economically viable. Such exercise may not be possible in the traditional coating procedures including the powder metallurgy route. In general, a choice of the spray process, material selection, and design is as significant to benchmark thermal spray coatings. In most cases, thermally sprayed hard metal coatings are mechanically attached to substrates with thicknesses ranging from 100 to 500 microns. The current study gives an overview of the literature concerning HVAF coatings for tribological applications. It comprises HVAF coating developments and mechanisms followed by their application to different types of tribological performance such as sliding wear, erosion, abrasion, fretting and corrosion. HVAF coatings override other thermal spray coatings including HVOF and offer distinct advantages with respect to adherence and strength coupled with hardness so as to have strong resistance to wear, and corrosion integrated with deformation. The ingredients used in the process like metal carbides and metal alloys coated with combustible powders have a particle size in the range of a few nanometers to 60 microns. The researchers are now concentrating on the development and recognition of dense HVAF coatings so that they perform reliably and suitably in the field with good attributes. This article covers in-depth the deployed materials which are suitable for the HVAF process followed by an evaluation of physical, chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical characterization with the main focus on adhesive, abrasive, erosive, fretting and corrosive wear phenomena. This paper demonstrates the characterization of High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) sprayed NiGrFeS coating on SAE 1008 cold rolled steel as a substrate to improve the surface properties for tribological applications. A combination of characterization techniques, such as XRD and SEM/EDAX procedures, have been used to evaluate the coatings as well as for mechanical and microstructural characteristics. Additionally, the porosity, microhardness, coating thicknesses, and coating density have been arrived at a view to obtain structure property co-relations. The HVOF overrides other thermal spray processes in terms of specific advantages of getting superior properties. Being a new development in the family of spray technology, the various issues such as coating quality, surface characteristics and other associated factors are being addressed and reported with the research work carried out. The objective of this paper is to ascertain the failure analysis of laryngoscope made of ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) material for application in laryngoscope. For failure analysis the von-mises stress distribution was investigated using commercially available software. For experimental validation and comparison ASTM standard specimens of two types of materials ABS and PLA (Poly lactic acid) material are fabricated and subjected to tensile testing in Electronic Tensometer a mini universal testing machine of capacity 2 KN. The 3D-CAD model of laryngoscope made of ABS materials is then used for the failure analysis for prediction and evaluation of its intended future application and commercialization.
