The objective of this paper is to explore the current status of the legal situation of indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation (PIAV) in Latin America, as well as to examine the procedure by which the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights interpreted and applied the principle of self-determination in a specific case, and from there, submit it to the jurisdiction of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Starting from an outline of the historical condition of these peoples, an overview is presented of the main aspects that, today, define the exercise and defense of the rights of the PIAV in the face of actions to the detriment of their lands and way of life, by of the States. Turning, for this, to the case “Tagaeri and Taromenane vs. Ecuador”, whose Report on the Merits of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, set a precedent in favor of the legal recognition of the claims of indigenous peoples., El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar el estado actual de la situación jurídica de pueblos indígenas en aislamiento voluntario (PIAV) en América Latina, así como examinar el procedimiento por el cual la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos interpretó y aplicó el principio de autodeterminación en un caso específico, y a partir de ahí, someterlo a la jurisdicción de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos. Partiendo de un esbozo de la condición histórica de estos pueblos, se presenta un panorama general de los principales aspectos que, hoy día, definen el ejercicio y defensa de derechos de los PIAV ante acciones en perjuicio de sus tierras y forma de vida, por parte de los Estados. Acudiendo, para ello, al caso “Tagaeri y Taromenane vs. Ecuador”, cuyo Informe de Fondo de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, sentó un precedente en favor del reconocimiento jurídico de las reivindicaciones de pueblos indígenas.

Introduction: nowadays, it is common to find scientific advance that brings hope, motivation, and opportunity. At the same time, they are limited by the biomedical approach to training and care, which reduces the human to the natural and procedural, as well as care for the disease, and leads to the dehumanization of care. Objetive: Missing. Method: A descriptive study was conducted with hospitalized people. The participants completed the Perception of Humanized Care instrument provided by the nursing profession. Results: 148 people participated; 44% always perceived humanized care, 25% almost always, 14% regularly, 6% seldom, and 9% never perceived humanized care. Conclusions: The category of qualities of the nurse's work is highlighted with the generation of feelings, confidence, and well-being, as well as the willingness to provide care, and concern for the person's needs, followed by the dignified treatment perceived by active listening, presence, and compression., Introducción: en la actualidad es común encontrar avances científicos que traen esperanza, motivación y oportunidad. Al mismo tiempo, están limitadas por el enfoque biomédico de la formación y el cuidado, que reduce lo humano a lo natural y procedimental, así como el cuidado a la enfermedad, y conduce a la deshumanización del cuidado. Conclusiones: se destaca la categoría de cualidades del trabajo del enfermero con la generación de sentimientos, confianza y bienestar, así como la voluntad de cuidar, y la preocupación por las necesidades de la persona, seguido del trato digno percibido por la escucha activa, presencia y compresión.

An 8-year-old girl diagnosed with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome presented to our department with gingival pain, inflammation, and bleeding. Her medical history included hypoplasia of the corpus callosum, intellectual disability, trichothiodystrophy, global developmental delay, myopia, laryngomalacia, hypothyroidism, and osteoporosis. A diagnosis was reached of “periodontitis as a direct manifestation of systemic diseases”. During 9 years of follow-up, there were exacerbation episodes with spontaneous gum bleeding, ulcers in the interdental papilla, tooth mobility, and progressive tooth loss. Some of these exacerbation episodes resolved clinically with the administration of amoxicillin and metronidazole. We therefore proposed an oral microbiome study (subgingival and saliva samples) before and after antibiotic therapy. The most abundant genera at the subgingival level before administering antibiotics were Prevotella, Streptococcus, Fusobacterium, Leptotrichia, and Aggregatibacter. Of the 94 genera sequenced, 57 were less abundant in the post-treatment state than at baseline, particularly certain Gram-negative periodontal pathogens such as Porphyromonas, Treponema, Aggregatibacter, Fusobacterium, and Campylobacter. In contrast, other genera related to oral health, such as Haemophilus, Granulicatella, and Abiotrophia, showed an increase after administering the antibiotic. In conclusion, periodontitis exacerbations as a direct manifestation of systemic disease can occasionally be controlled exclusively with systemic antibiotics, without the need for performing mechanical periodontal therapy. Para ello, ha procurado en todo momento la organización de tareas vitales que aseguren su buen vivir; tales labores son: alimentación, protección a la intemperie, movilidad, defensa de sus territorios y de agentes externos que puedan propiciar la aparición de enfermedades. Otro aspecto inherente al ser humano, por el que ha procurado es el del cuidado, el cual se ha visto condicionado por la organización social y los valores imperativos de cada época y lugar.
