We present the implementation of a novel economic model predictive control (E-MPC) strategy for froth flotation, the largest tonnage mineral separation process. A previously calibrated and validated dynamic model incorporating froth physics was used, which overcomes the limitations of previous simplified models reported in the literature. The E-MPC's optimal control problem was solved using full discretization with orthogonal collocation over finite elements, employing automatic differentiation via CasADi. This approach was applied in a 30-litre laboratory-scale flotation cell, significantly improving mineral recovery from 9% to 29% under feed flowrate disturbances while maintaining a minimum concentrate grade of 20%.

We analyze a bright and rare burst, GRB20221009A, showing through NED data that the angular distance between GRB221009A and the supernova SN 2022xiw is almost the same angular separation with galactic objects, i.e., the SN-GRB connection at z = 0.151 is not robust. Gamma rays with up to 18 TeV detected in association with the GRB constrain the attenuation to which they are subject at cosmological distances. GR221009A is out of scale relative to other long-lasting GRBs and comes from a region with an excess of soft gamma repeaters (SGR), suggesting that GRB221009A is a giant SGR, with energy release Eiso aproximately 10^{44} erg. This work describes the development and validation of a digital twin for a semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill controlled by an expert system. The digital twin consists of three modules emulating a closed-loop system: fuzzy logic for the expert control, a state-space model for regulatory control, and a recurrent neural network for the SAG mill process. The model was trained with 68 hours of data and validated with 8 hours of test data. It predicts the mill's behavior within a 2.5-minute horizon with a 30-second sampling time. The disturbance detection evaluates the need for retraining, and the digital twin shows promise for supervising the SAG mill with the expert control system. Future work will focus on integrating this digital twin into real-time optimization strategies with industrial validation.

The introduction of nonlinearities in the Schr\"odinger equation has been considered in the literature as an effective manner to describe the action of external environments or mean fields. Here, in particular, we explore the nonlinear effects induced by subtracting a term proportional to Bohm's quantum potential to the usual (linear) Schr\"odinger equation, which generates the so-called "classical" Schr\"odinger equation. Although a simple nonlinear transformation allows us to recover the well-known classical Hamilton-Jacobi equation, by combining a series of analytical results (in the limiting cases) and simulations (whenever the analytical treatment is unaffordable), we find an analytical explanation to why the dynamics in the nonlinear "classical" regime is still strongly nonclassical. This is even more evident by establishing a one-to-one comparison between the Bohmian trajectories associated with the corresponding wave function and the classical trajectories that one should obtain. Based on these observations, it is clear that the transition to a fully classical regime requires extra conditions in order to remove any trace of coherence, which is the truly distinctive trait of quantum mechanics. We show evidence of particle acceleration at GEV energies associated directly with protons from the prompt emission of a long-duration M6-class solar flare on July 17, 2023, rather than from protons acceleration by shocks from its associated Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), which erupted with a speed of 1342 km/s. Solar Energetic Particles (SEP) accelerated by the blast have reached Earth, up to an almost S3 (strong) category of a radiation storm on the NOAA scale. Also, we show a temporal correlation between the fast rising of GOES-16 proton and muon excess at ground level in the count rate of the New-Tupi muon detector at the central SAA region. A Monte Carlo spectral analysis based on muon excess at New-Tupi is consistent with the acceleration of electrons and protons (ions) up to relativistic energies (GeV energy range) in the impulsive phase of the flare. In addition, we present another two marginal particle excesses (with low confidence) at ground-level detectors in correlation with the solar flare prompt emission., Comment: 8 pages,8 figures

We look for a diurnal anisotropy in the cosmic ray flow, using the Mexico-City Neutron Monitor (NM) detector, due to the Earth's orbital motion and predicted by Compton-Getting (C-G) in 1935, as a first-order relativistic effect. The Mexico-City NM's geographic latitude is not very high ($19.33^{\circ}$N), and it has a high cutoff geomagnetic rigidity (8.2 GV) and mountain altitude (2274 m asl) favoring the observation of the C-G effect. Furthermore, during the solar cycle minima, the galactic cosmic ray flux is maxima, and the solar magnetic field gets weakened, with a dipolar pattern. Its influence on cosmic rays reaching Earth is the smallest. Analysis of the combined counting rate during two solar minima, 2008 and 2019, from Mexico-city NM's data yields the C-G effect with an amplitude variation of (0.043$\pm$ 0.019)\%, and phase of (6.15$\pm$ 1.71) LT. The expected amplitude variation is 0.044\%, and the phase of 6.00 LT., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

We show that the energy-weighted angular (zenith, azimuth) distribution of extensive air showers (EAS), produced by Ultra High Energy (UHE) cosmic rays at the Pierre Auger Observatory (PAO), has a thrust axis almost transverse to the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), with a thrust value $Tp \geq 0.64$ ( where 1.0 means a perfect alignment and 0.5 isotropy). This behavior strongly suggests an effect of the IMF on the charged shower particles, producing additional lateral scattering. We discuss the weakening of the Earth's magnetic field during geomagnetic storms (30\% of observational time) when the IMF becomes preponderant, strengthening the alignment., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

We present an analysis of the short-term modulation (one rotation of Bartels-27 days) of the galactic cosmic rays (GCR) by the solar wind, based on the cosmic ray rates observed by the Pierre Auger Observatory (PAO) on their surface detectors in scaler mode. The incidence of GCR with energies below $\sim$ 50 TeV, at the top of the atmosphere, produces more than 90\% of the secondary particles registered at ground level, i.e., they are subject to solar modulation. The modulation is consistent with at least two components: The first is the modulation of the amplitude of the cosmic rays diurnal variation, anti-correlated with the solar-wind speed. The second one occurs during the high-speed stream (HSS), the baseline of the cosmic rays diurnal variation train falls, following the time profile of the solar-wind speed inversely. Based on the radial gradient of the cosmic ray diffusion theory and under some other premises, such as the latitude dependence on diurnal variation and the inclusion of drift processes in the propagation of GCR, a semi-empirical description of the modulation is possible to do, and it hereafter is called as Toy-model. Although the Toy-model does not include fluctuations due to propagation in the atmosphere, it provides satisfactory results when compared with the PAO scaler mode data. The conjectures of Hawking-Bekenstein of that gravity and temperature are closely related, was the beginning of the formulation of thermodynamic models of gravity. Using one of these models, we show that the thermal bath temperature of NGC1052-DF2 dwarf galaxy is about 6.5 K higher than the temperature of the thermal bath of the local dwarf galaxies. We claim that this temperature difference is responsible by the behavior of the NGC1052-DF2 galaxy to be apparently a galaxy with lack dark matter. This difference arises due to that the host galaxy of NGC1052-DF2, the elliptic galaxy NGC1052 is a LINER-type active galactic nucleus, with signals the intense starburst activity in the galaxy's center. Debye Gravitational Theory (DGT), allows obtaining a Generalized Faber-Jackson relation to described the dwarf galaxies and obtaining the velocity dispersion as a function of thermal bath temperature. DGT predict a velocity dispersion to NGC1052-DF2 dwarf galaxy in agreement with the very-low values reported in the literature. Also, DGT predicts that several, or maybe all dwarf galaxies from NGC1052 must have the same behavior than NGC1052-DF2 because they are immersed in thermal baths almost with the same temperature, this behavior already was observed in a second galaxy, the NGC1052-DF4 dwarf galaxy. The significant deviations among observations and the expectations based on self-similar scaling model of galaxy clusters, especially up to redshift $z\lesssim 0.4$, constrain the evolution of the X-ray clusters scaling relations with the redshift, is claimed that in this redshift range, the data has a strong influence by selection bias. However, also suggests that some non-gravitational processes can be responsible for a weak or almost null evolution, at least to $z\lesssim 0.4$. This almost universality observed in X-ray galaxy clusters can be understood if we assume that the X-ray emission, results from thermal bremsstrahlung from a hot diffuse intracluster gas with temperatures about $10^8$ K. A fraction of it would not be bound to the cluster and would escape as a wind. This hot wind can warm the local environment, the thermal bath where the cluster is immersed. This mechanism can put all the galaxy clusters within thermal baths, with almost the same effective temperature, independent of the cluster redshift and it can be effective for clusters with redshifts up to $z\sim 0.4$. Debye Gravitational Theory (DGT), allows obtaining a Generalized Faber-Jackson relation to described the galaxy clusters such as the M-$\sigma$ and M-Tx relations as a function of the bath thermal temperature. We show that the DGT prediction to the M-$\sigma$ relation, overlap the fit on data of an extensive spectroscopic survey of galaxy clusters with MMT/Hectospec, at 0.1$\leq$ z $\leq$ 0.3. And the DGT predictions to the M-Tx relation almost overlap the fit on data from Canada France Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey and XMM-CFHTLS surveys up to $z\sim 0.47$., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

Nearby isolated galaxies ($z\sim 0$), are considered immerse within a thermal bath at 2.73 K. However the dwarf galaxies orbiting these galaxies are also subject to additional radiation from their hosts, so they are within a thermal bath slightly warmer. We claim that this thermal effect can explain several properties of the dwarf galaxies, such as their rotation curves, their radial acceleration relations (RAR) and why the velocity-mass dependence at the faint end of the Tully Fisher Relation (TFR) is steeper for these galaxies. In the Debye Gravitational Theory (DGT), the galaxies properties, such as the rotation curves, the RARs, and the TFRs are isothermal curves; they depend explicitly only of temperature, of the thermal bath in which are immersed. We show that the steep and faint end of the TFR is composed of a mixture of dwarf galaxies immersed in thermal baths with temperatures from 2.73 K to 3.80 K. A comparison among DGT's predictions for the dwarf galaxies relations with data obtained from the literature show a satisfactory agreement between them., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures

From June 2014 to February 2017, the Fermi LAT detected 46 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with photon energies above 20 MeV, and the trigger coordinates of seven of them were within the FoV of New-Tupi detector located in the central region of the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA). We show in this paper that two of these seven GRBs have a probable GeV counterpart observed at ground level by New-Tupi detector. The first is GRB 160609A, a short duration GRB with a bright emission of photons over a broad energy range extending up to GeV energies. The second is GRB 160625B, a very long duration GRB, for which the Fermi LAT detected more than 300 photons with energies above 100 MeV in the $\sim$ 1 ks interval after the GBM trigger. In the first case, the signal at New-Tupi has a nominal significance of $3.5\sigma$ in the counting rate time profiles, within the T90($=5.6$ s) duration on Fermi GBM. However, the effective significance is only $3.0\sigma$. In the second case, New-Tupi detector registered at least two excess (peaks) with a nominal statistical significance of $4.8\sigma$ and $5.0\sigma$ at 438 s and 558 s after the trigger. The first is within the $T90(=460$ s) on Fermi GBM. Even so, the effective significance is only $\sim 2.0\sigma$. In addition, from a Monte Carlo analysis, we show that the expected signal-to-noise ratio is compatible with the observation of GRB 160709A, only if the differential index of the GRB energy spectrum be equal or higher than -2.2 (a non-steep spectrum)., Comment: 25 pages, 14 figures. We report on the 22-23 June 2015 geomagnetic storm. There has been a shortage of intense geomagnetic storms during the current solar cycle 24 in relation to the previous cycle. This situation changed after mid-June 2015 when one of the biggest solar active regions (AR 2371) of current solar cycle 24, close to the central meridian produced several coronal mass ejections (CMEs) associated with M-class flares. The CMEs impact on the Earth's magnetosphere resulted in a moderately-severe G4-class geomagnetic storm on 22-23 June 2015 and a G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storms on 24 June. The G4 solstice storm was the second biggest (so far) geomagnetic storms of cycle 24. We highlight the ground level observations made by New-Tupi, Muonca and the CARPET El Leoncito cosmic ray detectors that are located within the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region. These observations are studied in correlation with data obtained by space-borne detectors and other ground-based experiments. The CME designations are from the Computer Aided CME Tracking (CACTus) automated catalog. As expected, Forbush Decreases (FD) associated with the passing CMEs were recorded by these detectors. We noticed a peculiar feature linked to a severe geomagnetic storm event. The 21 June 2015 CME 0091 was likely associated with the 22 June summer solstice FD event. The angular width of CME 0091 was very narrow and measured 56 degrees seen from Earth. In most cases, only CME halos and partial halos, lead to severe geomagnetic storms. We performed a cross-check analysis of the FD events detected during the rise phase of the current solar cycle 24, the geomagnetic parameters, and the CACTus CME catalog. Our study suggests that narrow angular-width CMEs that erupt in the western region of the ecliptic plane can lead to moderate and severe geomagnetic storms., Comment: 20 pages, 14 figures, accepted in Solar Physics

On 2017 September 10 Neutron Monitors (NMs) apparatus located at ground level and high latitudes detected an increase in the counting rate associated to solar energetic particles (SEPs) emission from X8.2-class solar flare and its associated CME. This was the second-highest flare of the current solar cycle. The origin was the active region AR 12673 when it was located at the edge of the west solar disk, magnetically poorly connected with Earth. However, there was a peculiar condition: the solar protons accelerated by the CME shocks were injected within a heliospheric current sheet (HCS) region when Earth was crossing this region. We show that often HCS and SEPs propagation are closely related. If the source locations of SEPs are within or close to HCS, the HCS play the role of a Sun$-$Earth magnetic connection. SEPs drift around HCS paths, and SEPs are also drift in a wide range of longitudes by the HCSs. In some cases, and especially when Earth crosses the HCS sector, a fraction of these particles can reach Earth with a harder energetic particle flux, triggering a ground-level enhancement (GLE). The blast on 2017 September 10, which triggered the GLE \#72, was the second in the current solar cycle. We show that the two GLEs, including all sub-GLEs observed in the current solar cycle, comes from solar explosions that happened within an HCS structure; this behavior is also observed in the GLEs of the previous solar cycle. In general, solar explosions from active regions poorly connected with Earth can trigger GLEs, through the mechanism described above. In all cases, the SEPs drift processes by HCS structures provides an efficient particle transport, allowing the observation of these solar transient events., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures. The thermal history of the Universe is introduced within the Debye Gravitational Theory (DGT), a thermodynamic theory of induced gravity, and allows to obtain the evolution of systems with the redshift. DGT reproduce the ESO VLT observations, showing falling outer rotation curves for galaxies at redshift above 0.77. A scaling law is observed in the radial acceleration relation (RAR) of galaxies. For accelerations smaller than $\sim 10^{-10}ms^{-1}$ the observed acceleration $g_{obs}$ decreases more slowly than acceleration generated by the baryonic mass $g_{bar}$, following always the relation $g_{obs} \sim \sqrt{g_{bar}}$. The RAR does not care about the specific properties of the galaxy, the relation exists in nearby high-mass elliptical and low-mass spheroidal galaxies. In this paper, through a straightforward analysis, we show that according to DGT, the RAR scaling law observed in nearby galaxies is broken, when are considered distant galaxies. The extreme case happen for galaxies at redshift above 0.77, because according to DGT, the galaxies have declining rotation curves, and the rotation velocity falling faster than the Keplerian-law curve. Then in this case $g_{obs}$ decreases more faster than $g_{bar}$, this means that $g_{obs}$ is systematically lower than $g_{bar}$. We show that DGT prediction for the RAR of galaxies at high redshift is in agreement from those obtained from the falling rotation curves observed by VLT telescope., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

This work is about Bohmian mechanics, a non-relativistic quantum theory about the motion of particles and their trajectories, named after its inventor David Bohm (Bohm,1952). This mechanics resolves all paradoxes associated with the measurement problem in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. It accounts for quantum randomness, absolute uncertainty, the meaning of the wave function of a system, collapse of the wave function, and familiar (macroscopic) reality. We review the purpose for which Bohmian trajectories were invented: to serve as the foundation of quantum mechanics, i.e., to explain quantum mechanics in terms of a theory that is free of paradoxes and allows an understanding that is as clear as that of classical mechanics. To achieve this we analyse an optical interferometry experiment devised and carried out 2005 by Shahriar Afshar (Afshar,2005). The radical claim of Afshar implies in his own words the 'observation of physical reality in the classical sense' for both 'which path (particle-like)' and 'interference (wave-like)' properties of photons in the same experimental setup through the violation of the Englert-Greenberger duality relation (Englert,1996) that according to Englert can be regarded as quantifying of the 'principle of complementarity'.

The thermal history of the Universe is included in the Debye Gravitational Theory (DGT) to describe the speed of rotation of the galaxies. The DGT incorporate the temperature of Debye in the entropic gravitational theory. According to the DGT, the expression of the rotation of the galaxies is not a continuous function of the redshift, there is a discontinuity at $\sim 0.77$. According to their redshift, the galaxies form two groups. (a) Those with redshift above 0.77 with declining rotation curves like $R^{\beta}$ with $\beta \leq -0.5$ (Newtonian regime). (b) Those with redshift below 0.77 with rising rotation curves like $R^{\beta}$ with $\beta \geq 0$ (Mondian regime). At $z\sim 0.77 $ an extra boost (Dirac delta-like twisting force) led the galaxies to spin very fast.This scenario is consistent with a mysterious entity such as the dark energy and that at $z\sim 0.77 $, in addition to accelerating the expansion, boosted the rotation of the galaxies again, inducing a transition between the Newtonian regime to the Mondian regime. It is possible to check that the characteristics on galaxy rotations provided by the DGT for a broad range of redshift from $z\sim 4$ to $z=0$ are in agreement with the observations. We believe that the change in the form of rotation of galaxies at $z\sim 0.77$ is new evidence for the hypothesis of dark energy., Comment: 14 pages, 12 figures

In this article we present results of the study on the association between the muon flux variation at ground level, registered by the \textit{\textit{New-Tupi}} muon telescopes ($22^0 53'00''S,\; 43^0 06'13'W$; 3 m above sea level) and a geomagnetic storm of 25\,--\,29 August 2015 that has raged for several days as a result of a coronal mass ejection (CME) impact on Earth's magnetosphere. A sequence of events started with an M3.5 X-ray class flare on 22 August 2015 at 21:19 UTC. The \textit{\textit{New-Tupi}} muon telescopes observed a Forbush decrease (FD) triggered by this geomagnetic storm, with onset on 26 August 2015. After the Earth crossed a heliospheric current sheet (HCS), an increase in the particle flux was observed on 28 August 2015 by spacecrafts and ground level detectors. The observed peak was in temporal coincidence with the impact of a high speed stream (HSS). We study this increase, that has been observed with a significance above 1.5\% by ground level detectors in different rigidity regimes. We also estimate the lower limit of the energy fluence injected on Earth. In addition, we consider the origin of this increase, such as acceleration of particles by shock waves on the front of the HSS and the focusing effect of the HCS crossing. Our results show possible evidence of a prolonged energetic (up to GeV energies) particle injection within the Earth atmosphere system, driven by the HSS. In most cases these injected particles are directed to polar regions. However, the particles from the high energy tail of the spectrum can reach middle latitudes, and that could have consequences for the atmospheric chemistry, for instance, the creation of NOx species may be enhanced and can lead to increased ozone depletion. The Debye model of the specific heat of solid at low temperatures is incorporate in the Entropic Gravity Theory (EGT). Rather of a smooth surface, the holographic screen is considered as an oscillating elastic membrane, with a continuous range of frequencies, that cuts off at a maximum (Debye) temperature, $T_D$. We show that at low temperatures $T < T_D$, the conservation of the equivalence principle in EGT requires a modification of the Davies-Unruh effect. While the maintenance of Davies-Unruh effect requires a violation of the equivalence principle. These two possibilities are equivalents, because both can emulate the same quantity of dark matter. However, in both cases, the central mechanism is the Davies-Unruh effect, this seems to indicate that the modification of the Davies-Unruh effect emulates dark matter which in turn can be see as a violation of the equivalence principle. This scenario is promising to explain why MOND theory works at very low temperatures (accelerations) regime, i. e., the galaxies sector. We also show that in the intermediate region, for temperatures slightly lower or slightly higher than Debye temperature, EGT predicts the mass-temperature relation of hot X-ray galaxy clusters., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Since 2014, a new detector (New-Tupi) consisting of four plastic scintillators ($150 \times 75 \times 5 cm^3$) placed in pairs and located in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been used for the search of transient solar events and photomuons from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). On September 15, 2015, at 21:18:24 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located GRB 150915A (trigger 655721). The GRB light curve shows a weak complex structure of long duration $T_{90}=164.7 \pm 49.7 $ s, and a fluence in the 15-150 keV band of $8.0 \pm 1.8 \times 10^{-7}erg/cm^2$. GRB 150915A was fortuitously located in the field of view of the New-Tupi detector, and a search for prompt emission in the GeV energy range is presented here. The analysis was made using the "scaler" or "single-particle" technique. The New-Tupi detector registered a counting rate excess peak of duration $T_{90}=(6.1\pm 0.6)$ s with a signal significance $(4.4\pm 0.5)\sigma$, (and not $6.9\sigma$ as reported in the previous version). The signal is within the T90 duration of the Swift BAT GRB, with an estimated "excess" fluence of $F_S(E>0.1 GeV)=1.3 \pm 0.3 \times 10^{-6} erg/cm^2$. This value can be considered the lower limit of the gamma ray fluence in the GeV energy region. However, the Poisson probability of the event to be a background fluctuation is $5.0 \times 10^{-6}$ and it appears in the counting rate of the New-Tupi detector with an annual rate $\sim 76$. In addition, the signal has a significance of only $2\sigma$ in the time profiles with a bin above 2 seconds. Thus we conclude that the event has a high probability to be background fluctuation., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures

On Oct. 29th, 2015, the Earth crossed through a fold in the heliospheric current sheet. This is called a "solar sector boundary crossing". Under this circumstances, a large coronal mass ejection (CME) occurred at 2:24 UT, behind the west limb on the sun. Therefore, the boundary crossing occurred when in the blast's nearby environment was filled with energetic particles accelerated by the CME shock waves, spacecraft measurements (ACE and GOES) have shown that in such a case, protons with energies at least up to 30 MeV were stored within the range of the sector boundary. Thus, a fraction of the solar energetic particles (SEP) from CME, reached Earth around 03:00 UT in the aftermath of the solar blast, reaching the condition of an S1 (minor) radiation storm level. The effect at ground level was a small increase in the counting rate in some ground based detectors, such as the South Pole Neutron Monitor (NM) and a sharp peak observed in the counting rate in the New-Tupi detector in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Thule NM. The event is being classified as a new GLE (Ground Level Enhancement) in the current solar cycle, as the GLE 73. However, in all cases, the counting rate increase is smaller or near than 2\%. The Earth crossed through a fold in the heliospheric current sheet also caused a geomagnetic disturbance, below the minor geomagnetic storm threshold, observed in the ACE spacecraft and a small decrease in the counting rates of some ground level detectors, such as the New-Tupi detector and Thuly NM. Far away from any sunspot, a bright flare erupted on November 1st, 2014, with onset at 4:44 UT and a duration of around three hours, causing a C2.7-class flare. The blast was associated with the sudden disappearance of a large dark solar filament. The rest of the filament flew out into space, forming the core of a massive CME. Despite the location of the explosion over the sun's southeastern region (near the eastern edge of the sun) not be geoeffective, a radiation storm, that is, solar energetic particles (SEP) started to reach the Earth around 14:00 UT, reaching the condition of an S1 (minor) radiation storm level on Nov. 2th. In coincidence with onset of the S1 radiation storm (SEP above 5 MeV), the Tupi telescopes located at $22^090'$S; $43^020'$W, within the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) detected a muon enhancement caused by relativistic protons from this solar blast. In addition an increase in the particle intensity was found also at South Pole neutron monitor. This means that there was a transverse propagation to the interplanetary magnetic field of energetic solar particles. However, we show that perpendicular diffusion alone cannot explain these observations, it is necessary a combination with further processes as a very high speed, at least of a fraction the CME shocks, close to the ecliptic plane., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures

On May 17, 2012 an M5.1-class flare exploded from the sun. An O-type coronal mass ejection (CME) was also associated with this flare. There was an instant increase in proton flux with peak at $\geq 100$ MeV, leading to S2 solar radiation storm level. In about 20 minutes after the X-ray emission, the solar particles reached the Earth.It was the source of the first (since December 2006) ground level enhancement (GLE) of the current solar cycle 24. The GLE was detected by neutron monitors (NM) and other ground based detectors. Here we present an observation by the Tupi muon telescopes (Niteroi, Brazil, $22^{0}.9 S$, $43^{0}.2 W$, 3 m above sea level) of the enhancement of muons at ground level associated with this M5.1-class solar flare. The Tupi telescopes registered a muon excess over background $\sim 20\%$ in the 5-min binning time profile. The Tupi signal is studied in correlation with data obtained by space-borne detectors (GOES, ACE), ground based neutron monitors (Oulu) and air shower detectors (the IceTop surface component of the IceCube neutrino observatory). We also report the observation of the muon signal possibly associated with the CME/sheath striking the Earth magnetosphere on May 20, 2012. We show that the observed temporal correlation of the muon excess observed by the Tupi muon telescopes with solar transient events suggests a real physical connection between them. Our observation indicates that combination of two factors, the low energy threshold of the Tupi muon telescopes and the location of the Tupi experiment in the South Atlantic Anomaly region, can be favorable in the study and detection of the solar transient events. During the process of collapse of a massive star, a cavity is generated between the central iron core and an outer stellar envelope. The dynamics of this cavity, filled with plasma and magnetic field of the rapidly rotating proto-magnetar's magnetosphere, is believed to be very relevant in understanding supernovae and gamma-ray bursts. The interactions of the pressurized conducting plasma and the magnetic fields are described by a set of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations with poloidal and toroidal plasma flows not aligned with magnetic fields. A sequence of MHD equilibria in response to the increasing plasma pressure in the cavity, by continuous filling from the rotating magnetosphere, is solved to account for asymmetric supernovae, highly collimated gamma-ray burst jets, and also active galactic nucleus plasma torus. It is shown that the magnetosphere of the central compact star is likely the central engine of supernova and gamma-ray burst by feeding them plasma, magnetic energy, and rotational energy.

The classical problem of spherical homologous gravitational collapse with a polytropic equation of state for pressure is examined in Lagrangian fluid coordinate, where the position of each initial fluid element {\eta} = r(0) is followed in time by the evolution function y(t). In this Lagrangian description, the fluid velocity v = dr/dt = {\eta}dy/dt is not a fluid variable, contrary to the commonly used Eulerian fluid description. As a result, the parameter space is one dimensional in {\eta}, in contrast to the (x, v) two-parameter space of Eulerian formulation. In terms of Lagrangian coordinate, the evolution function y(t), which is not limited to a linear time scaling, agrees with the well established parametric form of Mestel (Mestel 1965) for cold cloud collapse. The spatial structure is described by an equation which corresponds to the one derived by Goldreich and Weber (Goldreich & Weber 1980). The continuous self-similar density distribution presents a peaked central core followed by oscillations with decreasing amplitude, somewhat reminiscent to the expansion-wave inside-out collapse of Shu (Shu 1977). This continuous solution could account for the planetary system of a protostar. There is also a disconnected density distribution, which could be relevant to cavity formation between the highly peaked central core and the external infalling envelope of a magnetar-in-a-cavity pre-supernova configuration.

We present results of a search for a possible signal from small scale solar transient events (such as flares and interplanetary shocks) as well as possible counterparts to Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) observed simultaneously by the Tupi muon telescope Niteroi-Brazil, 22.90S, 43.20W, 3 m above sea level) and the Pierre Auger Observatory surface detectors (Malargue-Argentina, 69.30S, 35.30W, altitude 1400 m). Both cosmic ray experiments are located inside the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region. Our analysis of several examples shows similarities in the behavior of the counting rate of low energy (above 100 MeV) particles in association with the solar activity (solar flares and interplanetary shocks). We also report an observation by the Tupi experiment of the enhancement of muons at ground level with a significance higher than 8 sigma in the 1-sec binning counting rate (raw data) in close time coincidence (T-184 sec) with the Swift-BAT GRB110928B (trigger=504307). The GRB 110928B coordinates are in the field of view of the vertical Tupi telescope, and the burst was close to the MAXI source J1836-194. The 5-min muon counting rate in the vertical Tupi telescope as well as publicly available data from Auger (15 minutes averages of the scaler rates) show small peaks above the background fluctuations at the time following the Swift-BAT GRB 110928B trigger. In accordance with the long duration trigger, this signal can possibly suggest a long GRB, with a precursor narrow peak at T-184 sec., Comment: 9 pages, 13 figures

We present a search for the muon excess associated in time (preceding or following) with the trigger of gamma ray burst (GRB) detected by the satellite borne instruments. The 1 Hz rate data was collected at the sea level in the area located at 22S and 43W, inside the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region and close to its center. Using 1 sec amd 10 sec time binning, we found the muon excess with significance $>5\sigma$ associated with the gamma ray burst GRB091112 observed by Swift BAT, Fermi GBM and Suzaku-WAM satellites. The detected muon time profile shows a rough peak at $\sim T+223$ sec ($5.2\sigma$), and with a duration of 7 sec. The FLUKA Monte Carlo simulation of the photon-to-muon conversion in the atmosphere shows that the observed muon excess can be explained by progenitor photons with energies above 10 GeV. This energy value is above the limits expected from the maximum synchrotron emission combined with the shock wave evolution. It shows constrains on the external shock synchrotron model for GRB emission in the GeV energy band and favors scenarios with overall afterglow spectrum, ranging from the optical-to-GeV photons. On the basis of the observed associations with the satellite data, we report confidence analysis of the background fluctuations and fluencies in the GeV energy region, that is important for better understanding of the GRB physics., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures

This paper presents results of an ongoing survey on the associations between muon excesses at ground level registered by the Tupi telescopes and transient solar events, two solar flares whose gamma-ray and X-ray emissions were reported by, respectively, the Fermi GBM and the GOES 14. We show that solar flares of small scale, those with prompt X-ray emission classified by GOES as C-Class (power $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-5}$ W m$^2$ at 1 AU) may give rise to muon excess probably associated with solar protons and ions emitted by the flare and arriving at the Earth as a coherent particle pulse. The Tupi telescopes are within the central region of the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA), which allows particle detectors to achieve a low rigidity of response to primary and secondary charged particles ($\geq 0.1$ GV). Here we argue for the possibility of a "scale-free" energy distribution of particles accelerated by solar flares. Large and small scale flares have the same energy spectrum up to energies exceeding the pion production, the difference between them is only the intensity. If this hypothesis is correct, the Tupi telescope is registering muons produced by protons (ions) whose energy corresponds to the tail of the spectrum. Consequently the energy distribution of the emitted protons has to be a power law spectrum, since power law distributions are characterized as scale free distributions. There is a difference between the solar ionization concentration in the ionosphere in the daytime and at night-time. At night the E-region ion concentration peak is dramatically reduced due to chemical losses and the rapid change in the vertical polarization electric field at the time around sunset, which is due to the accelerating neutral wind dynamo and which produces a corresponding change in the zonal electric field through curl-free requirements. The result is the formation of a layer of high conductivity, at the daytime-night-time interface. This phenomenon in the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) area, provokes an increase in the precipitation of charge particles which is well known and is commonly termed "sunset enhancement". In the following we show five gamma ray burst (GRB) triggers observed by spacecraft GRB detectors in temporal coincidence with muon enhancement observed at ground level by the Tupi telescopes with two different orientations at $\sim 21$ UT (local sunset), and located inside the SAA region. Of these GRB triggers analyzed here, one from Swift, and two from Fermi are probably noise triggers, produced by omni-directional particle precipitation, during the sunset enhancements., Comment: 7 pages, 12 figures

In this paper we report a possible GeV counterpart observed at ground level as muons (or "photo-muons") of two Fermi gamma burst monitor (GBM) events, trigger bn081120618 and trigger bn081124060. In both cases, the trigger coordinates are within the field of view of the vertical Tupi telescope located at sea level and inside the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region. We show that despite the first trigger being classified as GRB (due to a gamma ray burst), with an 100% probability assigned by GBM Flight Software, the trigger time 14:49:31 UT happened during particle precipitations in the SAA, which in most cases is $\sim 12h$ UT to $\sim 22h$ UT, and the probability of the trigger being attributed to particle precipitation, according to our analysis is 25%. The second Fermi trigger is also classified as GRB, with a 100% probability assigned by GBM Flight Software. The trigger time is 01:26:07 UT, which is outside the schedule of precipitation of particles. Another important observed characteristic is the existence of a ground level enhancement (GLE) with a sharp peak ($5.1\sigma$) coinciding with the Fermi trigger within the 10-second counting interval (raw data) of the vertical Tupi telescope. In addition it is possible to identify other GLEs before and after the trigger occurrence. In both cases, the scenario is similar to the long-duration GeV GRBs observed by EGRET within the BATSE field of view., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

The magnetic moments and magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) of CoRh alloy nanoparticles are determined experimentally and theoretically. Non-trivial correlations between chemical order, magnetic order and MAE are revealed. A remarkable non-monotonous dependence of the MAE as a function of composition and chemical order is observed that opens novel possibilities of tuning the magnetic properties of nanoalloys. The observations are successfully compared and analyzed with our electronic calculations. In this way we clearly demonstrate that the induced 4d moments and the 3d-4d interfaces are the key parameters controlling the magneto-anisotropic behavior., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

According to the Hubble law, high redshift objects such as Quasar (QSOs), X-ray Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) together with the Gamma Ray Burst (GRBs) are the fastest and farthest objects. These characteristics provides strong motivations for they to be used to constrain the cosmological parameters, without the limitations found in the Ia supernovae study and which is restricted to redshift of up to 1.7. However, the variability and behavior in the QSOs and AGNs spectra tell us that they have very complex structures and the standard candle framework can not be applied. So far the available data of QSOs and AGNs have shown some anomalies observed in their brightness and metallicities, difficult to understand, under an orthodox point of view. Here, we show that their Hubble diagram flattens for $z\geq 3 $. The result need further confirmation, because the statistics of high redshift extragalactic objects is still poor. The goal of this study is to examine the response and changes of the muon intensity at ground, due to magnetic anomaly over south Atlantic. Based on the data of two directional muon telescopes and located at 22S and 43W. These coordinates are inside of the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region, a dip in the magnetosphere. This characteristic offers to the muon telescopes the lowest rigidity of response to cosmic protons and ions ($\geq 0.4$ GV). The magnetosphere's dip is responsible for several processes, such as the high conductivity of the atmospheric layers due to the precipitation of energetic particles in this region and an zonal electric field known as the pre-reversal electric field (PRE) with an enhancement at evening hours. In addition the open magnetosphere, propitiate the magnetic reconnections of the IMF lines that will take place in this site in the day side. These factors are responsible for an unusually large particle flux present in the SAA region, including particles with energies above the pion production threshold. The main effect is an increase of the muon intensity ($E_{\mu}>0.2GeV$) at ground, in the day side, in up to ten times. We show that it is correlated with the pre-reversal electric field, and propitiate the observation of muon enhancements due to small solar transient events, such as corotating interaction region (CIR) and micro-flares. Recently, triggers occurring during high background rate intervals have been reporter by Swift-BAT Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) detector. Among them, there were two on January 24, two on January 25, and two on February 13, and 18, all in 2008. These Swift-BAT triggers in most cases are probably noise triggers that occurred while Swift was entering the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA). In fact, we show that they happen during a plentiful precipitation of high energy particles in the SAA, producing muons in the atmosphere detected by two directional telescopes at sea level, inside the SAA region (Tupi experiment). They look like sharp peaks in the muon counting rate. In the same category are two triggers from MILAGRO ground based detector, on January 25 and 31, 2008 respectively. In addition, the trigger coordinates are close to (and, in two cases, inside) the field of view of the telescopes. From an additional analysis in the behavior of the muon counting rate, it is possible to conclude that the events are produced by precipitation of high energy charged particles in the SAA region. Thus, due to its localization, the Tupi experiment constitutes a new sensor of high energy particle precipitation in the SAA, and it can be useful in the identification of some triggers of Gamma Ray Burst detectors., Comment: 7pages, 5 figures

It is shown that the fundamental standard hadron cascade diffusion equation in the Mellin transform space is not rigorously correct because of the inconsistent double energy integral evaluation which generates the function $<\eta^{s}>$ with its associated parametizations. To ensure an exact basic working equation, the Faltung integral representation is introduced which has the elasticity distribution function $u(\eta)$ as the only fundamental input function and $<\eta^{s}>$ is just the Mellin transform of $u(\eta)$. This Faltung representation eliminates standard phenomenological parameters which serve only to mislead the physics of cascade. The exact flux transform equation is solved by the method of characteristics, and the hadron flux in real space is obtained by the inverse transform in terms of the simple and essential residues. Since the essential residues are given by the singularities in the elasticity distribution and particle production transforms that appear in the exponentials, these functions should not be parametized arbitrarily to avoid introducing non-physical essential residues. This Faltung formulation is applied to the charged hadron integrated energy spectra of halo events detected at Mt. Chacaltaya by the Brazil-Japan Collaboration, where the incoming flux at the atmospheric boundary is a single energetic nucleon.

Starting from April 2007, a search for solar daily variation of the muon intensity ($E_\mu >0.2$ GeV) at sea level and using two directional muon telescopes is in progress. In this survey, several ground level enhancements (GLEs) on the muon counting rate background have been found. Here, we highlight one of them, observed in the vertical telescope on 07 August 2007 for the following reasons: The GLE consists of a single narrow peak, with a statistical significance of 4.4$\sigma$. The GLE is in temporal coincidence with a SWIFT trigger $N^0287222$, at 21:16:05 UT according to the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on board of the SWIFT spacecraft. However, the Swift StarTracker had lost stellar lock minutes before that and the resulting improper s/c attitude information caused BAT to "trigger" on a known source. Even so, the SWIFT trigger coordinates are inside the effective field of view of the vertical Tupi muon telescope. The temporal and directional coincidences between this GLE and the SWIFT satellite unknown event strongly suggest that they may be physically associated. Some inconsistencies to the assumption of a cosmological origin of the cosmic microwave background CMB, such as the absence of gravitational lensing in the WMAP data, open the doors to some speculations such as a local origin to the CMB. We argue here that this assumption agrees with the absence of the GZK cutoff (at least according to AGASA data) in the energy spectrum of the cosmic ray due to the cosmic interaction with the CMB at $6\times 10^{19} eV$ or above. Within 50 Mpc from Earth, the matter and light distributions are close to an anisotropic distribution, where the local cluster and local super-clusters of galaxies can be identified. In contrast, the ultra high energy comic rays data is consistent to an almost isotropic distribution, and there is no correlation between their arrival direction and astronomical sources within our local cluster. This means that the events above the GZK cutoff come from distances above 50 Mpc, without an apparent energy loss. This scenario is plausible under the assumption of the CMB concentrated only within 3-4 Mpc from Earth. In other words, the CMB has a local origin linked only to the local super-cluster of galaxies. In addition, the galactic and extragalactic energy spectra index within the energy equipartition theorem strongly constrains the dark matter and dark energy hypothesis, essential in the Big Bang cosmology., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

Analysis on the daily variations of cosmic ray muons with $E_{\mu}\geq 0.2 GeV$ based on the data of two directional muon telescopes at sea level and with a rigidity of response to cosmic proton spectrum above 0.4 GV is presented. The analysis covers two months of observations and in 60% of days, abrupt transitions between a low to a high muon intensity and vice-verse is observed, the period of high muon intensity is from $\sim 8.0h$ up to $\sim 19.0h$ (local time) and coincides with the period when the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) lines overtake the Earth. This behavior strongly suggest that the high muon intensity is due to a contribution of solar protons (ions) on the muon intensity produced by the galactic cosmic rays, responsible for the low muon intensity. This implies that the solar particle spectrum extends to energies beyond 1 GeV. We show that this picture can explain the solar daily variation origin, and it is a most accurate scenario than the assumption of corotating galactic cosmic ray with the IMF lines, specially in the high rigidity region. Recent observations of the luminosity-redshift in Type Ia supernovae suggest an accelerated inflation of the Universe (open Universe) as well as the observed matter density showed to be less than the critical one, suggesting that a large fraction of the energy density of the Universe is in the form of dark energy with negative pressure (to supply repulsive forces). We present here an alternative mechanism on the basis of the photon energy loss in the inter-galactic gravitational field, and it is close to the Shapiro effect. It is argue that the redshift observed in distant galaxies is a cumulativeprocess, a dominant redshift due to the Doppler effect plus a redshift due to photon energy loss in the intergalactic gravitational field. We show that the last mechanism when interpreted as Doppler effect, supplies a non lineal relationship among the speed of recession of the galaxies and their distances. The effect is very tiny, even so, it increases with the distance and can be the key to explain the anomalous redshift observed in distant supernovae without the accelerated inflation hypothesis, Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

A laser diffraction experiment was conducted to study light propagation in air. The experiment is easy to reproduce and it is based on simple optical principles. Two optical sensors (segmented photo-diodes) are used for measuring the position of diffracted light spots with a precision better than $0.1 \mu m$. The goal is to look for signals of anisotropic light propagation as function of the laser beam alignment to the Earth's motion (solar barycenter motion) obtained by COBE. Two raster search techniques have been used. First, a fixed laser beam in the laboratory frame that scans due to Earth's rotation. Second, an active rotation of the laser beam on a turntable system. The results obtained with both methods show that the course of the light rays are affected by the motion of the Earth, and a predominant quantity of first order with a $\Delta c/c=-\beta (1+2a)\cos \theta$ signature with $a=-0.4106\pm 0.0225$ describes well the experimental results. This result differs in a amount of 18% from the Special Relativity Theory prediction and that supplies the value of $a=-1/2$ (isotropy)., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures

We report results on an ``one-way light path'' laser diffraction experiment as a function of the laser beam alignment relative to the Earth's velocity vector obtained by COBE measurements of the Doppler shift in the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR). An amplified Doppler shift is observed in the diffraction images, and the effect is compatible with a ``dipole'' speed of light anisotropy due to Earth's motion relative to the ``CMBR rest frame'', with an amplitude of $\delta c/\bar{c}=0.00123$. This amplitude coincides with the value of the dipole temperature anisotropy $\delta T/\bar{T}=0.00123$ of the CMBR obtained by COBE. Our results point out that it is not possible to neglect the preferred frame imposed by the cosmology and they are well described by the Ether Gauge Theory (an extension of the Lorentz's ether theory) and it satisfies the cosmological time boundary condition., Comment: 8 pages, 6 eps figures, Submitted to Nature Physics

Under the hypothesis that Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) might be responsible for the origin of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray (UHECR), we propose a two component (galactic and extra-galactic) model for the UHECR origin. The model is based on two facts. The first is the anisotropies found in the angular distribution of GRBs from BATSE catalog. Second is that, of all the located long-GRBs, only approximately 15 percent of them have their spectroscopic redshift determined, and some 38 percent of them have a X-ray, optical, or radio afterglow. So far, in short-GRBs, no afterglow and no red shift have been detected, suggesting that these GRB sources are inside or close to our Galaxy. This two component model for the UHECR is further supported by the experimental evidences of an UHECR excess around $10^{18}$ eV from the direction of the galactic central region. The model offers in a natural way an explanation for the presence of cosmic rays with energies beyond the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuz'min (GZK) cutoff., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

We present the results of 720 hours of observations of transient solar events at ground level, during the summer season 2005 (Souther Hemisphere). Data were taken with the TUPI muon telescope, working at a high counting rate (up to 100 KHz) and always pointing on the IMF lines (45 degrees of pitch angle). An anti-correlation among the arrival of keV protons (observed by EPAM detector aboard the ACE spacecraft) and sudden depressions in the muon flux at sea level have been observed. The phenomena is discussed in the context that they can be considered as mini-Forbush, caused by a shielding effect of the passage of a disturbance (shock and plasma) and may be a signature of interplanetary manifestations of coronal mass ejections., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

This paper presents first results of an ongoing study of a possible association between muon enhancements at ground observed by the TUPI telescope and transient events such as the Sun's X-ray activity. The analysis of the observed phenomenon by using the GOES satellite archive data seems to indicate that on most cases the Ground Level Enhancements (GLEs) could potentially be associated with solar flares. We show that small scale solar flares, those with prompt X-ray emission classified as C class (power above $10^{-6}Watts m^{-2}$ at 1 AU) may give rise to GLEs, probably associated with solar protons and ions arriving to the Earth as a coherent particle pulse. The TUPI telescope's high performance with these energetic solar particles arises mainly from: (1) its high counting rate (up to $\sim 100$ KHz). This value in most cases is around 100 times higher than other detectors at ground and (2) due to its tracking system. The telescope is always looking near the direction of the IMF lines. The GLE's delay in relation of the X-ray prompt emission suggest that shock driven by corona mass ejection (CME) is an essential requirement for the particle acceleration efficiency., Comment: 18 pages, 10 Postscript figures. In a recent study of a search for enhancements from the galactic center with muons at sea level using the TUPI muon telescope, we have found several ground level enhancements (GLEs) as very sharp peaks above the count rate background. This paper reports a consistent analysis of two GLEs observed in December 2003 and detected after an up-grade of the data acquisition system, which includes a noise filter and which allows us to verify that the GLEs are not mere background fluctuations. The main target of this study is a search for the origin of the GLEs. The results show that one of them has a strong correlation with a solar flare, while the other has an unknown origin, because there is neither a satellite report of a solar flare, nor prompt X-ray emission, and nor a excess of nuclei during the raster scan where the GLE was observed. Even so, two possibilities are analyzed: the solar flare hypothesis and the gamma ray burst (GRB) hypothesis.
