This report, a supplement to "The Constitution and the Community: A Resource for Planning Humanities-Based Programs on the United States Constitution," describes resources for community oriented U.S. Constitution bicentennial celebration programs. Part 1 outlines basic planning procedures in terms of: (1) focusing on humanities; (2) forming planning committees; (3) identifying audiences; (4) designing programs; (5) choosing program participants; (6) obtaining project funding; (7) publicizing programs; (8) preparing programs; and (9) evaluating programs. Part 2 identifies selected projects funded by state humanities councils, while part 3 describes selected national programs and resources. Part 4 contains listings by state of state humanities councils and commissions and a list of scholars who indicated interest in participating in public bicentennial programs. Appendices include: (1) bicentennial celebration dates; (2) a U.S. constitutional history bibliography; and (3) a publicity guide for public humanities programs. (JHP)

Designed to encourage interactive study of the Constitution by humanities scholars and the community, this guide is arranged in four sections. The first section contains a number of ideas for projects and concepts that might spark group interest in constitutional study and descriptions of Constitution-related projects, listed in alphabetical order by title. Projects range from an examination of contemporary constitutional questions to influences on the framing of the Constitution. Project formats include lectures, conferences, school programs, films, and videotapes. The second section is a filmography consisting of 36 entries organized under the following headings: origins and purpose of the Constitution, main principles of government in the Constitution, amending and interpreting the Constitution, and landmark Supreme Court cases. Each annotated entry provides: a brief description; availability, purchase, and rental information; length; format; and date. The third section lists scholars and resource people by state. The final section contains bibliographies and resources, divided into the following headings: bibliography, bibliography according to type of publication, state humanities councils, major private and state historical societies and museums, League of Women Voters state chapters, and other organizations. Films and videotapes treating some aspect of American culture and society, which were developed with funds from the state humanities societies, are described. The purpose of the catalog is to provide a qualitative critique of the listed films and videotapes that can clarify how each film's orientation or, in some cases, limitation in the treatment of the subject may call for supplemental presentation of ideas and information. The materials included were chosen through a nomination process in which all states were asked to nominate one film or videotape for the catalog. Items to be included in the catalog were chosen by a panel of six individuals, representing professional backgrounds in the humanities, experience in film and video production, and work on state humanities councils. Thematic categories of the films include American biography, the American West, American life, immigration and ethnic cultures, the populist hero, public issues, rural America, women's experience, and work and society. Information provided for each entry includes description of content, production quality, treatment of subject, potential program use, and availability information. (RM)
