This study aimed to determine the incidence and contributing factors to pulpal and periapical disease in crowned vital teeth. Seventy-three pairs of healthy teeth were included and divided into two groups; 'crowned' and 'untreated' groups. The crowned group was prepared for full coverage crown and no treatment was carried out on the untreated group. Both groups were subjected to clinical and radiographic examination to detect endodontic signs and symptoms pre-operatively and one-week after crown cementation. Electric pulp test was also subjected to both groups, pre-operatively, after tooth preparation and before crown cementation. The incidence of pulpal and periapical disease was 6.8% and 1.4%, respectively, after tooth preparation. PURPOSE Pre-surface treatments of coping materials have been recommended to enhance the bonding to the veneering ceramic. Little is known on the effect on shear bond strength, particularly with new coping material. The aim of this study was to investigate the shear bond strength of veneering ceramic to three coping materials: i) metal alloy (MA), ii) zirconia oxide (ZO), and iii) lithium disilicate (LD) after various pre-surface treatments. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-two (n = 32) discs were prepared for each coping material. Four pre-surface treatments were prepared for each sub-group (n = 8); a) no treatment or control (C), b) sandblast (SB), c) acid etch (AE), and d) sandblast and acid etch (SBAE). Veneering ceramics were applied to all discs. Shear bond strength was measured with a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparisons tests. RESULTS Mean shear bond strengths were obtained for MA (19.00 ± 6.39 MPa), ZO (24.45 ± 5.14 MPa) and LD (13.62 ± 5.12 MPa). Objective: To investigate the effect of alkaline peroxide-type denture cleanser agents on the microbial profle, namely Streptococcus , Staphylococcus , and Candida species, in maxillary complete dentures. Methods: A total of 20 patients with maxillary complete dentures were recruited. Three denture cleanser agents were selected ( n = 5): Polident ® (P); Steradent ® (S); and Pearlie White ® (PW), with distilled water (DW) as control. Dentures were brushed before immersion with denture cleansers. Denture bioflm was collected from the palatal impression surface of the denture before and after immersion. The collected microorganisms were cultured and colony forming units (CFU) were counted. Results: Signifcant reduction in the numbers of Streptococcus an Staphylococcus was observed after immersion with all denture cleanser agents ( p 0.05). Furthermore, S was more effective among other cleansers compared to DW ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: Immersion of dentures in denture cleansers can reduce the amount of microorganisms on denture surfaces; thus, leading to effective denture hygiene. Steradent ® denture cleanser showed the highest percentage reduction of polymicrobial organisms.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate all ceramic crown (ACC) preparations those were made by dental undergraduate students during the preclinical sessions. 104 plastic teeth were prepared by 4th year dental undergraduates during the preclinical session for ACC crown examined. The teeth were placed on the frasaco arches and were mounted in the frasaco head. The preparations were examined for the tapering, presence of undercuts, incisal and cingulum reductions as well as preparation of shoulder margin. Preparations were examined using hand instruments and visual. The sample size was 92 plastic teeth. Most of the preparations were acceptable with acceptable placement and types of margins, adequate axial and incisal reductions and acceptable tapered of the axial walls. On the other hand, most of the teeth showed absence of cingulum wall. Most of the crowns prepared by the students were acceptable. It showed that they understood the principles of crown preparation. Cingulum wall preparation has to be given greater emphasis as it is important in the retention and resistance of the restoration.
